From IRC: [17:26] <@evan82> kaene, someone attacked the network using the masternode fork and destabilized it
Good to get that confirmed. Any more info on the nature of the attack?
I suspected as much, posted way back there... But still just suspect it... It would be a really convenient scapegoat, but is also entirely plausible given the money spent on trolls who admit to getting paid...

They had just as long to plan it as everyone else had to get on the right clients...

Adds up to concerted attack with DDoS in on it now...

Back when DarkSend was in alpha trials on testnet, people had a meeting to test darksends out. I remember a test got cancelled due to a forked network or something and I also remember darksend nodes (I think evan was hosting the only node then) getting ddosed so that darksends are stuck and not executed. That's like 3 months ago.

LTC is soooo gonna die.

Mintpal on.

(and I just noticed my post has a strange symmetry 30003)

Sorry if I repeat something already said, but I haven't read that:

The download link of the wallet windows binary on https://www.darkcoin.io/getstarted.html now points to version 0.9.4.11, and not 0.9.4.8 as it's reported on the same page.

P.S. to Evan, our great developer: please, when you'll fix everything and after u'll have some rest, explain what happened and put that explanation in evidence. It was difficult follow "the right chain", and a good story will be another +100 points for you and the community Wink Cheesy

and get delisted from it's two biggest exchanges

Temporary halt of trading is not "delisted". But you know that and want to troll, right? Tongue

Man that UFH (Unidentified Flying Hashrate) is making mining really difficult.
500Ghs of Nethash and we can link only ~40Ghs to pools  Huh But where is waldo?

Is there a chart or something?

Monero, my man, why are you tanking?  Angry

Too much inflation. Classic problem with some altcoins, but it's even worse with MRO (right now).

It's BitCoin that is fighting for "relevance"...
*** I cringe *** every time I use that 2009 technology requiring 30-60 min for a transaction...
A quaint public, low velocity commodity for geeks to hoard...

It's like store of value rather than a fast way of transaction. Using altcoins with 2.5m blocks or less is paradise compared to the torture of BTC confirmations. Seems like the telegraph in the age of emails. For individual low-volume transactions 2 confirmations should be adequate - and it's still a long time, especially if variance decides to find a block in 40 minutes.

#3 - There are some key points, the mixer technology will be multi-path across a cluster of xnodes which runs over the encrypted protocol, so it won't be a central server, it would be similar to a distributed cluster, and the data is encapsulated inside that encrypted tunnel to prevent off-the wire sniffing (or off-the-air* for the mobile platform)...

Keep in mind you'll need a lot of DDOS protection and fault tolerance. Back in Feb-March, the first DRK's nodes were being DDOSed to "halt" anonymous transactions.

3049  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 26, 2014, 11:16:12 PM
Holy crap! Massive surge on cryptsy haha!!!

This is frigging incredible. The price is momentarily higher then when it stopped trading on mintpal.

This is a HUGE indicator that people in the know think that DRK is still good. Wow. I don't fully understand all the technical stuff, but money talks. DRK froze on mintpal, eall to ~.0013 on cryptsy, and has now - somehow - rallied back to ~.0017

Honestly, I assumed DRK was dead. Good-night. See ya later. But 10's of thousands of dollars have been used to instantly buy DRK since then WTF?

Also, all these paid trolls are amazing. They're just too obvious. Why else would they all be here - many with new accounts - if they didn't want DRK to fail? Its sad that the crypto community has gotten so fierce that it now pays to have people sabotage coins any way they can, but I've never seen such heat on one coin before. Nothing even close. They're well organized, you gotta give them that.

I'm amazed to see that DRK is apparently surviving all of this. People just bought HEAPS of DRK. Hope we can get this fixed in the next few days, and reclaim our image. Everyone vocally hates DRK, yet people are buying it by the $10's of thousands. Been here since the beginning, and we hardly ever pump this coin. Most other coins are primarily pump, haha. Incredible. DOGE is the community everyone loves, and they did alright. DRK is the community everyone hates, and we're still doing awesome.

I'm guessing it will settle on .0014 tonight. Maybe .001 in the next few days. If everything is fixed, it'll head back to .002+ in a day or so.

Shocked this coin isn't dead. Any shit-coin would be, haha.

You haven't seen anything. DDOS on pools, pools running 51% for extended periods (and price not giving a f***) fake hash-attacks, epic dumps of like 70-100k DRKs with hacked btcs, attacks on the testnet during alpha versions of Darksend, DDOSing of nodes to halt DarkSends, investors panicking at the prospect of a +2mn extra coin airdrop and the price simply going from 0.0014 to 0.0012, FUD and accusations from every possible angle, etc etc.

Some say Bitcoin code has military-grade resilience in terms of functionality. Darkcoin adds epic market resilience in the mix Tongue
3050  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 26, 2014, 10:51:47 PM
but if you look at the #1 and #2 coins they leave themselves the time necessary to make chances... in fact they are stucked and makes no changes at all...

...and still fork (BTC fork of 0.7 / 0.8 update).

Quote
so i think it wouldnt be any problem to scale the event list with the factor 2 or 3 in time...  drk still would be the most innovative coin in this market cap position. I suggest to realy work out a plan how it is possible to have a huge user base AND be innovative with hard forks and so such. This is the main problem that costs the other both coins there position in the long run... If you can not innovate any more you die but you need to find a way to do it smooth enought so that the user base can follow... The actual hard fork is an example how it should not be done.

Requiring wallets to be on the latest client or something would be the best solution for an evolving coin. No autoupdating though because that would be dangerous. I hear that Hirocoin has a window that alerts the user of updates, so that would be useful.
3051  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 26, 2014, 10:20:48 PM
LOL - this shitcoin is getting the end it deserves.

This is why you should never trust a fucking VB coder. Cryptographers are academics, and they have to be supported by developers who know what they're doing. A one-man-band that can't decide whether he's a developer or a "finance" guy is clearly not suited to cryptography.

The "fucking VB coder" put anonymity on the map of cryptocurrencies and is changing the landscape of crypto. You know why? Because those who can, do. And those who can't => teach. (these are the academics btw). He started a project that was, for all intents and purposes, quite difficult and yet he's pulling ahead on his own, when other coins have 3-10 people "dev teams" who code nothing. I ask these fantastic dev teams on their threads "oh you have a fantastic dev / dev team... right... so what have these fantastic devs coded?" The answer is nothing.

Is Evan the next satoshi? No. Is he the best coder in town? No. Is he the best cryptographer? No. Does he have the paranoia that is REQUIRED to be in this business? No. He's quite aloof in that right, just coding his stuff and not giving a fuck. Does he appear more sloppy than your average coder? Perhaps, but sloppiness is a function of time and stress:

1. Time: People see stuff like version numbers, thread titles or OP not having the right info etc and are rightly upset, but a one-man-show fails due to the constraints of time when trying to handle more than is possible.

2. Stress: I could tell the possibility for an "accident" was quite elevated because my mind's pattern recognition spotted a lot of syntax and context errors in some of his latest messages which would indicate that he was stressed a lot and had fragmented attention. But the error doesn't appear to have come from that, as the code was already running on testnet, so without bugs appearing there the coder doesn't have issues to fix.

The coin got the attention earlier than DarkSend's final launch and hence a lot of pressure to deliver when it's still in development. This has elevated the stress levels due to the press spotlight and contacts, due to pm's, due to emails, due to the coding that must be done for the next phase, due to the monitoring and communication with the community in irc, bitcointalk, darkcointalk, due to the time that it is required to run a pool / answer tickets, and then he also has a personal life that he probably doesn't really enjoy right now due to all the attention. He also has to protect himself from future government invasion, planning contingencies.

Of course he knows that all this is not without a reward (his DRKs value are directly related to his work) so he deals with it but he'll need assistance. If you are slightly paranoid on the project you must select your assistants carefully or you'll have an issue, so "centralization" of responsibilities until you find someone that can assist is of real importance. Hiring extra staff or coders (which he knows and trusts) would probably not be a bad idea, not in coding the main code, but assisting in peripherals or future ideas perhaps. Yet, given that he is "the man" in charge, a lot will still go through him.

All this pressure is actually not necessary if the development time span is spread over a longer duration, but it's all about the fucking pressure due to coinmarketcap #3.

i've made a deposit of dark coins in MintPal and it got 1 confirmation, then it disappear, Have i lost the money?

I moved the coins without knowing we had a fork.

Not likely... it's either in your or their wallet.
3054  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 26, 2014, 09:35:53 PM
I think we are overstating the issue of "panic sellers". I don't see that much action really. People weren't selling at 0.026, why would they sell at 0.016 or 0.013? Only if they've made like 10-50-100x and they are like "ok, let's bank some money". Otherwise there's not much temptation. One, two, three bagholders might dump, but generally? I don't see this happening.

Have any of the fundamentals changed? Not really. This is in active development and things like that can happen and will happen again in the future. It's not "final". I warned about this several times.

Having said that, Dark's resilience is immense. I remember the hacked BTC dumps in Feb and it was going back to 0.002 wave after wave of dumping down to 0.0008, we were all like W T F, this is amazing.

Same yesterday. Price didn't give a f*** despite the forks. There are some buyer whales who seem intent to buy everything. And they will now cost-average their buys (which they did up to 280) with buying dumps at half that. AND they will also future-proof their investment by panic-dumpers while cost-averaging the price.

This is not so worrying for the price, but worrying for the top100 distribution really where the rich will get richer by buying because DRK will be concentrated on the few who act opposite the market trend in dumps. But, as I said earlier, it's not that much of a volume because there is no temptation to sell at 0.016 when you've seen 0.028.

DarkCoin Mac OS X Update v0.9.4.9
updated 26 May 2014

More info:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg4585071#msg4585071

Thank you but we're on 9.4.11 and 10.8.11  now, immediate halt to masternodes, immediate hard fork

People, do not trade!!

Do not transact is the more accurate term.

Will we keep our DRK on MintPal?

Yep, don't move them while there are fork issues.

It needs to be guaranteed that there are NOT ROUGE masternodes on old updates or bad setups working together to fork payments.

You cannot guarantee that everyone will play nice. They may do it on purpose - as was mentioned a few pages ago to fuckup the system. The code has to predict that possibility (especially if it is a malicious attack vector) and react accordingly.

FYI Max Keiser is pumping DarkCoin on his next Keiser Report!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spMjocfOf74

Why the fuck did he have to mention MAXCOIN and pump it up on the back of Darkcoin's boom. Show some decency Max.

From what I see in the repository there'll be a new wallet to disable masternode payments tomorrow.

https://github.com/darkcoinproject/darkcoin/commit/57d3559c047f4da2988aed4b1c329b23864a6d6b

...so, if I read that correctly, wait a bit for 9.4.10

Note: While the fork issues are ongoing, avoid making transactions / deposits / withdrawals / pool payouts etc.
