3041  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Will IRS Tax Audits Increase Because People Reported Bitcoin & Crypto Gains? on: November 18, 2018, 01:45:12 PM
i think those that did not report crypto gains will be definitely audited at some point. even exchanges that did not initially require kyc at the beginning and then do so at some point will now have your history just waiting for the irs (or whatever form it exists where you reside) to request it.

i have reported my crypto to the irs for 4 years. 1st couple years were "best faith effort" as i had no real records for exchanges that went down. last couple years i kept better records and used bitcoin.tax to get a more accurate report. then i hand it to my cpa and let him sort it out.

i have not been audited but then again im small time.

i think their 1st priority is those they find reported nothing and suddenly kyc comes along at some point and bites them in the ass.

while i dislike tax laws on crypto, its better to be a good boy to the irs. they have absolute power to ruin your life. i have no desire to mess with them as its better to be a sheeple in some situations as opposed to trying to save a few bucks and ruin my wife and my future.

after all what good is crypto gains when the irs can confiscate everything you own, and do so without due process of law. you dont stand a chance once the irs starts gunning for you.
3042  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: is it still profitable? How many rigs do the big boys still have... on: November 14, 2018, 01:45:12 PM
Let me put it this way. I remember people saying mining was "dead" all over here in late 2012. Yet here we are.

yeah i mined btc on a few gpus at just over break even cost ~2012 and hodled. paid off nice later. of course past results dont mean anything today. but it worked then.

now? who knows. if a rig is paid for and its mining at or better than electric, why not keep it chugging along.

EDIT: im not in the big boy club, just a hobby miner.

RE: hat

after much discussion with my cat, he has opined that his image cannot be smaller than any other image in the avatar. so having his image reduced to fit on a badge on a hat is out.

he will deign however to wear a genuine WO hat on his head though. will that be possible? a hat with the BTC logo for him to wear?

In order to make the hat look its best inside the existing avatar, I had to use some techniques the make the original look... weird so I  will only post the finished avatar but this is created from an original WO hat.

NICE!  my cat and i are admiring the avatar image now. much purring on his part, much grinning on my part.

thanks!

EDIT thought i changed it.. it shows in one part of my profile, but not in another, and not in this post.

cat is not amused at my forum skilz. i will pay later, its in his eyes. doomed i am
3046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Acorn M.2 FPGA based GPU Accelerator on: November 13, 2018, 07:16:44 PM
Well  they were due in august it is november   a 90 day delay.

I would have no problem  but now all the bigger more powerful fpga's arrived making these lessor acorns worth less.

I am glad I took the refund.  Which they paid to me in full.

the word on discord looks to imply shipping this week. we shall see.

my initial orders in mid july were for two 215+, a 101 and a nest2x . so hoping im earlyish in the que if they ship in order of purchase.

EDIT: viewing my orders just now the acorns show "September batch" heh

I bought some bitcoin over spot price but the guy assured me it was purchased before the BCH split so I'm now sitting on these pre-fork coins.

Totally going to take advantage of the split.

Any idea why the thread “We Are The New Wealthy Elite:” is locked now?

I know the OP didn’t lock it unless Theymos unbanned Atlas because Atlas was the OP.

pretty sure it was because experimental bots were running wild there. page after page of junk posts.

wrecked an otherwise iconic thread.

My state just legalized marijuana, so I have that to keep me entertained for the next three years, I guess.

As if you needed your state to legalize shit to do whatever you want Wink

I'm just lazy. I like the idea of just being able to walk into a store and buy a brownie.

walk to the place?? like you go to it??

geez i had mine delivered.
3055  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Acorn M.2 FPGA based GPU Accelerator on: November 07, 2018, 05:13:00 PM
the 2x nest (which has 2 USB connectors but they are really just a PCIe lane that uses a USB cable to be compliant with existing USB risers) is good for boards with a limited number of usable PCIe slots.. as you can add cards on USB risers.

the 4x nest is good for boards that already have a lot of usable PCIe slots. it communicates with the cards via the PCIe bus.

TY this makes sense. It seems backward though. If I need to cram 4 acorns onto a single x16, chances are I don't have a lot of alternative ways to connect Acorns and thus would benefit by connecting gpus directly to the acorns instead of communicating through the PCIe bus (which may cause bandwidth bottlenecks).

yeah if youre short pcie slots a nest2x with usb gains you one 3 more card as it uses one pcie slot itself.

a nest4x with usb would be even better, as you would gain 3 cards.

so maybe a nest2x w/usb, nest4x w/usb, nest4x no usb would make a nice product lineup?

EDIT: corrected the number of cards a nest2x supports
3056  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Acorn M.2 FPGA based GPU Accelerator on: November 06, 2018, 07:14:55 PM
The 2 card is really good for threadripper boards which are short ports.

The four card is good for 1 full slot board with 13 ports.

I have a threadripper 1920 board it can do only five cards.

Add 1 two port jumps me to eight cards.
Add 2 two port jumps me to eleven cards.

And the four port does not help with this board.

I guess if you have a threadripper and the four card added lots of ports you may want it over the two port.
So I can see you complaint.

This makes no sense to me. How is the number of USB ports on the mobo relevant? I thought this was all about pcie lanes and x8/x16 connections.

he is referring to USB risers and PCIe slots. USB risers just uses a USB cable for signal carrying.

the 2x nest (which has 2  4 USB connectors but they are really just a PCIe lane that uses a USB cable to be compliant with existing USB risers) is good for boards with a limited number of usable PCIe slots.. as you can add cards on USB risers.

the 4x nest is good for boards that already have a lot of usable PCIe slots. it communicates with the cards via the PCIe bus.

EDIT: nest x2g has 4, not 2 usb connectors

*nod* I rarely drink myself (maybe a beer a month?) but I do want everything in my body to fall apart at exactly the same moment when I die. That way I can say I got 100% use out of the thing and didn't leave behind unused lungs, heart, or liver capacity. So I really should be drinking more and start smoking again...

this.

based on my lab results and imaging and such, i may switch up my life style till things are back to more or less equal abuse of body systems.

kidneys getting hammered too much? switch to something that abuses the liver instead. etc.

why end the race with unused potential in any particular body system.

as an organ donor, well, theres not gonna be much usable stuff left. but still, there may be something so i figure its still worth doing.

Speaking of hat, a search for your avatar brings up a multitude of cats but none of them are yours.  Do you have a larger version of your avatar?

i do.

somewhere.

been decompressing the last week or so. ive been juggling a bunch of stuff, mostly out of town, the last 2 months.

feels good to veg man

sold a couple of coins to pay for my trip/implants.

don't you DUMP the price

yeah if you have started a trend there will be much unhappiness. you might even have to give your hat up.
3060  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Sleep vs Cryptos (or vice versa) on: November 03, 2018, 05:38:47 PM
try practicing "sleep hygiene" <- do a search on it

avoid led lights at bed time, this includes computer monitors and smart phones. or you may want to try computer/smartphone software that reduces the blue color, as blue seems to be the key

you could try melatonin, but check with your doctor/pharmacist 1st

personally i read to go to sleep, either real books or an e-reader with e-ink (ie not backlit)
