3041  Other / Off-topic / Re: Half Life 3, when? on: August 06, 2019, 02:24:16 AM
Just played Half Life 2 and made a short video about it

Half Life 3 / Half Life 2 Episode 3 - when?

Just play the Half Life 1 remake that uses the same engine as Half Life 2. Then try the various mods, such as Gary's etc.
3042  Other / Off-topic / Re: type of music when you get stressed? on: August 06, 2019, 02:20:54 AM
What kind of music do you like to listen to when you get stressed?
Generally I hear sound tracks from different sources or classical music
What do you usually hear ?  Grin Grin

I go with (mostly) classical music, taken free from a satellite radio its quite varied including a blues/jazz hour and some instrumental and chanting.
There are no classical radios broadcasting in my city anymore, and with our garbage internet, this can make anyone stressed quite fast, especially when power goes down...
3043  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What is Quietest New Generation miner? on: August 06, 2019, 02:07:08 AM
[...]

Well this measuring method is... interesting. Considering you do have db meter, why don't you take readings from (a fixed position in) said bedroom for each of the units? Given the larger fan it is possible the noise is lower pitched in those units. You could get a reading next to the miner, and the "bedroom" reading. Do that at night at sleep time of course...

And then the noise levels table would start looking interesting.

I guess it would be fair to have only the singled unit being tested and not the whole mess of things you keep running in that garage. And also without putting the unit inside the silencing box. Its just to get numbers as accurate as possible, obviously you found already the M21S is the quietest.
3044  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 85% of All Bitcoin Have Now Been Mined!!! on: August 06, 2019, 01:18:24 AM
These percentages do not mean anything, the total number of mined bitcoin will not effect on mining but the costs to produce new coins and the benefit of mining.
You can notice that the price of BTC fell to less than 4000$ which makes Mining unprofitable, have it stopped? No, because the number of miners will be reduced and therefore the equivalent of the rest will increase. vice versa.
Therefore, the impact of price on mining will not be a fundamental value but a psychological effect.

Next year, halving will reduce block reward, which makes Mining profits reduce and therefore increase BTC value if demand increases. In other words, if the ratio reaches 90% unless there is demand, Mining will continue.

In theory, if everything else remains the same, half production with half demand keeps the price the same. half production with same demand should in theory double the price. But the market people are trying to catch this before it actually happens, so it ends correcting.

Suppose the "real" was 4k, after halving it would be 8k, what is it doing at 12k? So you see the price fluctuating up and down, and besides demand does vary as well, so "real" changes every second anyway.

Bitcoin production is fixed no matter what. Few miners, or many miners, every 10 minutes a new batch comes. But every 4 years this batch halves, today 12.5 but next year 6.25.

Mining is expected to become less and less profitable over time. Those large operations become inefficient and will have to size down or close completely. Price of bitcoin sometimes delays this, but don't count on it to always compensate miners needs, it won't.

The miners themselves auto regulate this. When there is so much mining (global hashrate) its less profitable for all, so many leave, and it returns being profitable for a few, which overtime becomes unprofitable again making them leave and making it attractive again... But notice on each round more leave.
3045  Economy / Services / Re: ★☆★ 777Coin Signature Campaign ★☆★ (Member-Hero Accepted) (New) on: August 06, 2019, 12:54:45 AM
Would like to join this campaign, but is it still valid that no posts may be made in local language?

-Posts that are made on local boards and not made in English will be denied (as I don't understand what they say).

You can make posts in local boards, but they don't count for the campaign. All your posts in local = 0, so make sure to have at least 15 in valid places.

Consider that there are other invalid boards, such as Serious Discussion because no signatures are shown there. You can still make posts there, but they don't count for the signature campaign.
3046  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9j Hashboard missing on: August 02, 2019, 09:16:07 PM
Well you know what to do. Take that unit apart, and test each board separately at normal (non overclocked) values, change power and data cables and see if there is any chance for the single board to work again.

Perhaps your last cleaning broke something...

At the end i would try it with BraiinsOS to see if the board only has lost sensors.
3047  Other / Off-topic / Re: Gamers on here? on: August 01, 2019, 06:12:52 PM
Those are the games where you see what the eyes of the character sees, but you never get to see the character you are playing yourself.

Of course those arcade fighting games are in third person, as you do see the characters you control.
Ohh,is that what the First Person game means?damn I have no idea about that lol

But thanks for clarification mate though still I don’t think that those virtual game is what you called FirstMan games 😂

Sure many! Aren't we are not all gamers if Bitcoin involved?
No we’re not all, many of my friends don’t be a gamer but they are cryptonians.i think it depends on each people that enters crypto

This is where "FPS" comes from: as in First Person Shooter, such as Battlefield, etc. You see from the eyes of the solider, but not the soldier you play with (unless you look at a mirror).

If VR helmets become more popular, most games will probably default to being First Person, as its the most natural 3d world representation. Sometimes you get the same thing in other genres, such as car racing, but those tend to offer both choices: See as if you are behind the wheel, or see the entire car as if you had some sort of camera floating behind it (third person).

This "First/Second/Third" person term comes from literature, and is also used in acting, its Me, You, he/she.

Normally people talk in first person, but could switch when playing roles, such as controlling a character, or if you are "narrating".

Grammatical person

I am (first-person singular)
you are/thou art (second-person singular)
he, she, one or it is (third-person singular)

we are (first-person plural)
you are/ye are (second-person plural)
they are (third-person plural)
3048  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What is Quietest New Generation miner? on: August 01, 2019, 05:52:00 PM
Can you make a table with db levels of each of your tested units? Would make for a much easier comparison. M21S is  67db? That's two 140mm fans?
3049  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Step by Step set up one mining farm in small and medium size on: August 01, 2019, 05:43:03 PM
What about the power requirements? Do you have the circuits with the appropriate capacity? Asic miners are not toys, they need air conditioner type circuits for each (or two in this case) of them. Something like 230v 15a per S9...

4 and 5 can come bundled together. The router can probably do NAT and some firewalling, and each miner should have a non default password in both web ui and ssh access.

If you follow the advise and use a nice embedded router with OPNsense* or such, you can also add redundancy, failover, firewall, etc, etc. Its not strictly needed, but please try to keep windows computers away from this lan. Get a nice linux laptop for anything you could possibly need setting up things there. Don't let your old habits ruin your dreams, too many people get malware because of this.

*Because Netgate owns pfSense. Think when Oracle owned Openoffice, leading to Libreoffice, because (new) owner didn't let the project grow...
3050  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In 10 years from now a quantum computer on: August 01, 2019, 05:09:39 PM

i believe that in 10 years bitcoin will no longer be minable (they will be finished), maybe we will all undermine bitcoincash or monero, however so much power makes an impression...

Mine-able yes, profitable no. There will always be a group of hobbyists willing to mine for fun, or with "free" (renewable?) energy available to do so. Also the asics are getting even more efficient, so Cannan's idea of embedding a few asic chips in common household appliances will return. Yeah, your smart fridge/ac/router/tv/heater/whatever might have 1~10 THs, why not?

Its like getting one of those usb mining sticks and plug it permanently into your "smart" tv, just because you want to help the community and it doesn't make you go bankrupt anyway.

I know i will probably get into that group, with a node as well, because its one way i can help and thank Bitcoin, for letting me eat today, when the politicians and institutions stole our wealth and nobody else cared.
3051  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do I move BitCoin from cold storage into CoinBase? on: August 01, 2019, 04:58:11 PM
How do I move BitCoin from cold storage into CoinBase?

To move your safely stored bitcoin into the unsafely dangerous online wallet, you first import it into a normal wallet, and then send it from there to the online wallet.

So you would get a secure computer os (such as Tails) boot a pc with that, import your cold wallet there using perhaps an updated Electrum (IMO you should skip step 2 to leave no traces), and then make a transaction to the online wallet.

Then just pray Coinbase doesn't disappear tomorrow, because, its not in your hands anymore....

Whatever you do, don't use windows or your regular leisure computer for handling serious money things. You have been warned.
3052  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pomp Vs. Peter on: August 01, 2019, 04:45:04 PM

A day has passed and there seems to be an eerie silence here about what took place in the golden debate. Do you guys find it uninteresting at all? Or are we simply speechless? Or is there no more point discussing about it here?

Care to drop some feedback, BTCitcoiners?

So where is a transcript of this debate, for those of us bandwidth impaired? I wouldn't mind a copy paste of CC into pastebin or something.
3053  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warren Buffett's obsession with physical things, gets in his way to see the gem on: August 01, 2019, 04:40:38 PM
It's really hard for me to understand that some people are incredibly fascinated with Buffett, and in same time they are on cryptocurrency forum which should be about Bitcoin and not about why some dinosaurs persistently refuse to use new technologies.

Would we as crypto-community should try to change his mind, convince him to get into Bitcoin? Do you want Buffett invest few billion in Bitcoin, pump price and then dump all, and send us at the crypto beginning?

I do not see any reason that this person is even mentioned in the forum, he is all about making money, he is 100% against cryptocurrency and he call us with not very pleasant names.

The answer is very easy. Warren Buffett is one of the richest people in the world and he is admired and followed by millions of people around the world. His opinion on Bitcoin is important, because it will help with global adoption and it will also motivate 1000s of retailers to accept Bitcoin as a payment option.

A record breaking 16200 people attended the yearly Berkshire Hathaway's (BRKB) shareholders meeting in 2019. A lot of these people are influential business people like, Bill Gates. <You only qualify to attend this meeting, if you own shares in Berkshire Hathaway>

Warren Buffett has a cult following and people admire him as a cult leader.  Roll Eyes

I'd rather follow Elon Musk, fellow geek co-authored Paypal and didn't rest on his fortune, but made rockets, electric cars, hyperloop, tunnels, etc. Even honorary Dogecoin CEO for lulz; pushing humanity forward to a new age.

I don't particularly care what Warren has to say, his time is past. If he supports Bitcoin, then welcome. But if he insists in opposing it, he should just step aside. And please don't get me started on Bill Gates, thankfully he is retired and mostly a philanthropist, but any anti Bitcoin comments are unwelcome.

Those names are counter examples, what people should not follow.
3054  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In 10 years from now a quantum computer on: August 01, 2019, 04:26:35 PM
We will have a quantum secure network. That is not an issue, but the 'shalecoins', coins with no owner, will become active. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5134441.0

And that will be the most challenging thing. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5166180.0

So i guess those will belong to those willing to invest in quantum computing, which is still so far much more expensive than any potential gains...
3055  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 17,800,000 BTC already mined on: August 01, 2019, 04:16:43 PM
Anyone noticed that we have breached 17,800,000 BTC already? Which means that 85% of all BTC have been mined. And in the next 10+ years we can all assumed that 'almost' all bitcoin is mined already. Have you accumulated at least 1 BTC in your wallet?

Current bitcoin mined:  17,851,062 BTC
I don't have even 1 BTC in my wallet yet, but I know a person who does. He has this one Bitcoin that he never does anything with, no matter what happens with the price. Must have been difficult not to sell when you realize you had $20k and then a year later it's only $4k. But he's very bullish about Bitcoin and absolutely sure it'll hit $100k in the following years. What I don't like about this long holding, though, is that it's not clear what to use it for and when (sell when $50k, $100k, $500k... where's the limit?). It's indeed surprising that almost all of the bitcoins will be mined pretty soon. A very solid amount of them is lost forever already, though, which makes Bitcoin even more scarce.

This is what happens in a deflationary economy. People will save, and only use what they really need to. Inevitable that you will use some, but not all. It does promote a culture of saving, in opposition to a culture of getting in debt. this is the fundamental difference from the opposing schools of economics, the current world dominating (debt based) Chicago vs the (savings based) Austrian. And it happens that one promotes inflation and the other deflation.

The reason you don't understand it is because you have not live it. Please read Mises and the other Austrian economists, then you will understand. And help spread the word, the world is going to move from inflation to deflation.
3056  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Best Symbol For The Satoshi on: August 01, 2019, 04:07:40 PM
Why we just don't call it sBTC
That will show be enough to know that you are using Satoshis of Bitcoin Smiley

I like the simplicity of it. Sometimes the best things are the ones that are simple. I also like that the btc symbol is somehow included. It's nice to have different opinions and conclusions. The time will tell if there will be a need for a massive usage of the satoshy symbol in the future.

Hmm yes, but Bitcoin should go first not last, as in Bs. ₿s. BTCs. Ironically that's what the Venezuelan bolivar used to use as symbol, quite appropriate given that its descendant (the BsS.) is currently a bit less (but nearly on par) to 1 satoshi.
3057  Other / Off-topic / Re: Chinese Ghost Month on: August 01, 2019, 03:54:31 PM
So the Chinese Ghost Month is about to begin (August 15, 2019). Asians follow such tradition that when Chinese Ghost Month begins, people should stop entering new business because of bad luck. In the crypto world, do you guys think that we should avoid going to their direction. Ghost Month or not, there should be more.

Well thanks for the advise. Under this superstition its best to hurry and finish any business with Chinese people, who would probably go silent for a whole month without really telling you why over any (major) proposal.

Although i doubt they will all stop doing business, i wouldn't be surprised some would rather wait a month before committing into any large enterprise. Its always good to be aware of these cultural traditions.
3058  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: President Trump going against BitCoin | JP Morgan Using BitCoin to trade drug on: August 01, 2019, 03:48:15 PM
Mr Trump Says this for the thirld world technology BitCoin - I am not a fan of Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on thin air. Unregulated Crypto Assets can facilitate unlawful behavior, including drug trade and other illegal activity....

Nope, its not "thin air" Mr Trump, you got it wrong as some from your age group and social position do. Its math, the trust-less model gives Bitcoin its value, its even more valuable than sheets of paper backed by the "most reputable" institutions that can disappear overnight over a human decision.

Bitcoin rules are known beforehand and remain the same overtime, unlike your fiat currency which can be manipulated and changed by decree. Its this thing called code, as in computer programming code, which happens to be validated by a worldwide network of computers from people willing to run a currency under those rules and no one else's.

This Mr. Trump is why Bitcoin is valuable, even more valuable than any monetary unit humanity has ever seen in its history. Its not about being able to touch it, its about being unable to change it.

Venezuela has the worst currency in the world, over a politician's decision to make everyone poor rather than fix the budget. Same thing happens when a bank plays roulette with people's savings goes bankrupt. Never again, should humanity be exposed to such tragedies.

Can you understand Bitcoin's value yet? You should...
3059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 17,800,000 BTC already mined on: August 01, 2019, 03:18:55 PM

The slowing is logarithmic (and dramatic). While most would have already been mined, the reminder is going to come slower and slower overtime until the year 2140. Just imagine how long its going to take for the reminder, every 4 years an order of magnitude slower. Probably most people would have seen 99% of all the produced bitcoins in their lifetime.

This also allows humanity to adapt to the fact that, there won't me more bitcoins. Price will also tend to stabilize, ie. fluctuate less, and gain value more slowly than it used to. It all goes together, the design is working quite brilliantly in fact.

If (large) miners (and asic manufacturers) are sleeping in their laurels and not paying attention, they should, as they won't be able to keep their business the same anymore. Mining will shrink, you cannot escape this reality. You have a chance to shrink now amicably (or diversify your business), because if you do nothing later you might end up in the red.

In the end most of the miners left will be small hobbyists, and those who invested in renewable energy. You might still not get it now but after the next couple halvings you will probably understand. Mining is going to be too expensive, and the bitcoin price will NOT keep pace with mining to keep it profitable, its going to be less and less, and you will see that 1¢ per kw/h will be too much, even with bitcoin reaching, say 100k, because asic efficiency is soaring too among hashrate and difficulty.

Incidentally this also solves the "bitcoin is environmentally bad" (non)issue, because this (brilliant) design makes it solve it by itself thanks to market forces.
3060  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Help needed to spend from paper wallet on: August 01, 2019, 03:03:03 PM
What you don't spend remains in there, i don't see the point of this "returning part".

He is referring to the change.

You can't just send as much as you want. You can only consume complete UTXO's.
A standard transactions has 1 input and 2 outputs.

And in OP's case it would be 1/2/3 inputs (depending on the UTXO's) and 3 outputs (0.002, 0.0005 and the change).

I stand corrected, very good information. I normally don't re-use paper wallets so i didn't think about the change going elsewhere...

Personally i don't like them (paper wallets), I'd rather switch to seed phrases, as explained in the Bitcoin wiki. Besides its unsafe to reuse the same address.

A paper wallet is the name given to an obsolete and unsafe method of storing bitcoin which was popular between 2011 and 2016. It works by having a single private key and bitcoin address, usually generated by a website, being printed out onto paper.

This method has a large number of downsides and should not be used.

For storage of bitcoins, a much better way accomplish what paper wallets do is to use seed phrases instead, where the user writes down 12 or 24 random words generated by their wallet.

I know the op doesn't want to bother securing it again, but think about it. What is that security worth when it could be already compromised? Ideally, a private key should never ever be seen by an electronic device.

After importing that paper wallet into Electrum, i would make a new wallet, write down the seed words in the paper that needs to be secured (also manually copied by hand again to store at two physically different places) and transfer all the remaining funds there. (All done from a proper secured os/pc, ie. Tails).

Good tips on doing multiple payments with a single broadcast, but this is still seen as multiple transactions to the blockchain no? Albeit at the same time i reckon.
