3061  Other / Archival / Re: [Merit] Hey Newbies! Can You Sign A Message? on: October 05, 2020, 02:58:33 AM
Why is that other wallet btc address could not be verified? Isn't it connected to the bitcoin network? Or only it will be connected when wallet will be used for doing new transaction which is being broadcast to the network and node will going to accept and update it as the latest transaction for bitcoin. However, I am confused with bitcoin network and that include this one signing in message though I can sign in a message in my bitcoin wallet but it could not be verified just like what it shows in the other replies.

What could be the reason behind why electrum wallets could not be verified by other signing bitcoin verification message?
It depends on each wallet. Most of wallets use BIP 39 for their mnemonic seed but Electrum has its own code to create wallet seed (not BIP 39). The difference causes troubles when you verify signature by different wallets.

If you have ever imported other wallets that support BIP 39 into Electrum, you will see the option for BIP 39.

https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/seedphrase.html

Moreover, if a wallet does not support Segwit address type, it can not verify signature is signed from a Segwit address with another wallet.
3062  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't accept 0 confirmation tx on: October 03, 2020, 03:31:53 PM
It is very easy scam to be realized and I don't know why there are people who are scammed by this. I am sorry for the loss of that person but still don't understand why.

If a person actually uses an exchange, a casino, requirement on confirmations is a thing to know of. From 1 to 3 confirmations will be required. It is applied commonly to avoid double spend attacks.

I am sorry if a person is scammed by this for the first bitcoin transaction ever made. If it is not a first bitcoin transaction, I am sorry for the very careless acceptance.

With small fund, wait for 1 confirmation. With big fund, wait for up to 3 confirmations to make sure that transaction is irreversible. The most annoying issue is wait for first transaction. You don't know how long you will have to wait to see the first confirmation. Fortunately, after the first confirmation, it is comfortable to wait for next 20 minutes (longer or shorter a little) to get 2 more confirmations.

As we can see, a merchant that waits for block confirmations will vastly reduce the risks of becoming a victim of double-spends.
3063  Other / Archival / Re: [Merit] Hey Newbies! Can You Sign A Message? on: October 03, 2020, 08:16:31 AM
It will be a good number of jr. members or members in rank to see here in the forum instead of being a newbie. Newbie with higher activities and are already qualified to become a jr. member should join here so that they will not get left behind by other newbies that are just newly made their accounts.
Quality is not what newbie members with high activities have. If they have quality, they are not newbies after they create hundred or thousand posts.

The address is used to sign a message should be kept as empty address. They can use another address to store their bitcoin and remember to not reuse any bitcoin address.
3064  Other / Meta / Re: Do we need / does anyone want a what happened to member "X" thread? on: October 02, 2020, 04:20:44 AM
It would be good to know what happened to forum members who are inactive not why some people want to leave the forum. For example, TMAN has suddenly been inactive (I hope he is doing fine), we don't know what happened to him. So, if familiar faces leave the forum, they will be missing of course and keeping a track of them would be good.
I think TheBearedBaby has a thread where he started to keep a track of accounts which are inactive for a while. I can't remember exactly and can't find the thread at the moment.

This is a very useful information for Ethereum users because the transaction fees of Ethereum blockchain is not small anymore nowadays.
My suggestion is, we should check the gas fee before we make our transaction in Ethereum, check here : https://etherscan.io/gastracker
Our transactions should not pending for long if we follow the recommended gas fee there.

A few gas trackers you can use and make fee checkings.

They are the only product whose purpose itself is to maintain the peg against dollar. There is DAI from MakerDAO and plenty of other stablecoins like BUSD, SUSD, USDC etc.

The tweet does not disclose details how the company, the CEO stores bitcoin for company's cash reserve.

- Hot or cold wallet.
- Standard or multi-signature wallet.

As a company, they should use cold wallet, multi-signature wallet.
3068  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fake token on swap platform on: September 30, 2020, 05:06:29 AM
You have to check smart contract address. Fake tokens can be detected by smart contract address. Two tokens can not use same smart contract address. Fake tokens can try to use same token tickers of real ones but they can not take smart contract address.
3069  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Etherum Fees Double In a Week As DeFi Heats Up on: September 30, 2020, 04:19:29 AM
Fees are heated up and are cooled down separately. People have to learn to check how to use good fees and make sure their transactions will be confirmed but still save some level of transaction fee.

3070  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Read the rules and don't post plagiarised content. on: September 30, 2020, 04:11:16 AM
Many people don't know what is plagiarism and the forum maybe the first place from which they learn the word plagiarism. Its cost to learn here is not good, permanent ban as a person not as a user or member.

In developing nations, plagiarism is not a problem, governments don't care, universities don't care or if they care, tools to detect plagiarism and rules for plagiarism are not clear, not well discussed and composed.

I read some members say the forum is the only one forum that has permanent ban if members do plagiarism. Is this info correct?
3071  Other / Meta / Re: Can't post on Archival? on: September 29, 2020, 07:18:20 AM
I also tried, as I'm still a newbie. There is no option to post a new topic. -snip-
I don't know exactly when the rule applies to a newbie (non-copper member) couldn't post or create a new topic on the Archival board. If I refer to old posts, I see that newbies can still post on the board.

Maybe that account was Jr. Member when made that topic. Demotion to newbie and deleted many posts.

I can use Archival as a member. I tested it there

It is limited to Jr member (DdmrDdmr said) or Copper member (reppoC said)

3075  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are DeFi projects trustless? on: September 27, 2020, 06:17:44 AM
Please look at Define the (scam) DeFi. People show little attention on my topic but if you are patient to read my topic and have some sort of cautious on scam projects, you can find some similarities between DeFi projects and stake/ masternode projects.

Instead of running network on proof of stake algorithms, DeFi projects are run on ETH network with smart contract. You brought a good point that smart contract is controlled by key that is hold by developers.

SUSHI project is a very valuable lesson on how developers can abuse DeFi projects. The refund later of developer does not make sense. Scam attempt is never good for one project.

Centralization, it is but people are misled and their eyes are blurred or blinded by profits.
3076  Other / Meta / Re: The strict policy in Bitcointalk. on: September 27, 2020, 03:06:32 AM
Again you created your second topics in few days to get for merits. It won't help you if you choose a lazy merit begging style.

You can only help yourself by improve your post quality and post history.

Look at your post history, people don't doubt that you are bounty hunter and when you rank up, you will begin to spam.
3077  Other / Archival / Re: [Merit] Hey Newbies! Can You Sign A Message? on: September 24, 2020, 03:13:50 AM
I even verified it on another person's wallet and it verified.
I hope that you did not give your private key from the another person. If you did give it up, you should not use that address because that person can be able to steal your bitcoin.

Quote
It did not work before because I verified it on the same wallet I signed it I guess.
If the inputs are correct, you can verify your sign message on your computer, on the same wallet, or on other devices and other wallets. Everyone can verify a signed message if inputs are correct (no typo).

Typo is not restricted to typo.

If you add or cut space, make line breaks when you verify a message, you will not verify it because the input is different than what owner used to sign that message.

With the same address you use to sign, if you input different message like these (in the Message area), you will get different Signatures.

Code:
Message: signed message

message: signed message

signed message

Message:signed message

Message: signed message  (add 1 or 2 more space at the end)

You make me confusing. Why do I need to use online tool to verify a bitcoin signed message?

Electrum is a non-custodial wallet and I have full control on my wallet. It allows me to sign and verify bitcoin message.

I verified it like this:

Message
Code:

Define the (scam) DeFi. At a day when people realize that potential DeFi projects are actually CeFi projects instead, it will too late for them to cut loss at good percent of losses and get out of scam DeFi.
