3061  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Firmware Upgrades for Hardware wallets their weakness? on: May 11, 2022, 11:43:48 PM
Exactly. The newest Ledger Nano S firmware is 2.1.0 if I remember correctly. It introduces the needed support and necessities for Taproot. Other than that, it doesn't fix anything urgent or improve the user experience. Unless you want to use Taproot addresses with your Ledger HW, you don't need to perform the upgrade. It also decreases the already very limited internal storage of the device.

Actually, it's not always good to upgrade the ledger firmware from time to time if it's not needed unless you need the additional feature or if it's related to a vulnerability issues you should upgrade it to fix those issues.

Sometimes hardware wallets can be soft bricked after upgrading I heard many times on some people out there happen to them and only a few people fixed their hardware wallet.
3062  Other / Meta / Re: My post was removed without explanation. What are my next steps? on: May 11, 2022, 11:21:08 PM
I think it was deleted because someone reported it and it's against the forum rules under this "1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads. [1][e]" so it's considered as a spam like the other said above.

And the thread should not be posted on Bitcoin discussion since it's a puzzle it's related to a game so it should be in Games and rounds.
3063  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core-- electrum personal server install help [RHEL 8] on: May 11, 2022, 10:56:34 PM
Rhel 8 when searching on Google it is pointing out that this OS is Linux which is why they are giving you Ubuntu or RPI guide on how to install it.

Actually, I never heard of this OS RHEL 8 have you tried all docs that you found recently for Ubuntu OS?

Why not try it first or check this link below

Or if you are looking for automated ElectrumX installer script you can check this one

3064  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to expect in a bear market on: May 11, 2022, 10:37:26 PM
the Bear market is normal to those who already know about Bitcoin and actually, this is what other traders and whales want to happen with Bitcoin and other Crypto because they can buy at much lower prices.

About calling Bitcoin and Crypto a scam I don't think they will call it a scam since many people right now know about Bitcoin may be before I have experience before to tell about Bitcoin to my friend but they told me it's a scam and it's a pyramid scheme but right now it's impossible they will call it a scam.

If you research a bit about the history of Bitcoin every block halving Bitcoin block reward is split into half and that is the day that you should focus on when buying Bitcoin because after block halving you will notice of increase in value gradually which is a sign of Bull market and right now while bear market better waits for a good time to buy while in a bear market.
3065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: When is ever the right time. on: May 11, 2022, 12:04:41 PM
It's hard to find which altcoin will be worth investing in while in the bear market.
But if you still want then only choose any coin under the top 10 on Coingecko or coinmarketcap.

About the time when to buy. No one can predict the exact time but for me, every time the price drop it is always the right time to buy.

Another tip is you can use the strategy available on tradingview called Stochastic RSI its also help you to decide when to buy or sell.
3066  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum gpg signature verification on android on: May 11, 2022, 12:01:14 AM
According to some people and guides on Electrum you don't have to worry about the GPG signature for Android mobile
Because all Electrum downloads for Android are already verified by the Google play store.

So make sure you download Electrum directly from Google PlayStore.
3067  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [ Core 23.0 Regtest ] Debug logs spammed with "Selected address from new" on: May 10, 2022, 11:18:41 PM
That is misconfiguration if you use only the onion address on "addnode" it should be the Ip address: Port
Your Bitcoin core is trying to connect on that set up it's rejected which is why it keeps spamming repeatedly.

Sample of IP address: Port

Code:
192.168.1.1:8777

Can you read this maybe this guide below will help you to set up your config?

3068  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to proper trade in you asset in this market situation? on: May 10, 2022, 10:56:42 PM
If bear market and you already have assets that you bought at a higher price then better don't sell and decide to hold them for a long period of time. My guess bull market will come again after a few years or after block halving.

But if you want to stay active in a bear market shorting is the only thing that I know to survive in a bear market but you need to have timing when to buy and short.
There is no perfect strategy in a bear market but HODL is always suggested by most people and buying at a dip is the solution to make a profit when the bull market comes.
3069  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Current Sending Fee of BTC, BCH and LTC? on: May 09, 2022, 11:57:42 PM
For Bitcoin, you can use https://mempool.space/ and the 0.000058 BTC($1.81) is very expensive than the calculation on mempool which is around $0.04.

And the transaction fee also depends on the size of the transactions if use the segwit wallet you can pay cheaper than using a legacy wallet.

If you are looking for a site where you can get recommendations about fees you can use https://blockchair.com/ and check every explorer BCH and LTC for fee estimator or recommendation.
3070  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: question about electrum on: May 09, 2022, 09:00:52 PM
When you are using 2fa it will cost an extra fee which is different on the wallet without 2FA. It should notify you on the first wallet creation.

Quote
"A small fee will be charged on each transaction that uses the remote server. You may check and modify your billing preferences once the installation is complete."

And Electrum 2FA uses 3rd party service called trustedcoin.
You can read their TOS here https://api.trustedcoin.com/2/tos?billing_plan=electrum-per-tx-otp

About the fee cost I don't know exactly but check this quoted below.

the fee is only for sending bitcoin. you can click on the little shield icon in the bottom right to see the fee schedule. for example if you choose to prepay for 20 transactions you will be charged 0.000025*20=0.0005 btc the first time you spend bitcoin and nothing for the next 19 transactions.

you are only asked the 2fa code when spending bitcoin. electrum won't know or care if the destination wallet is a hardware wallet, software wallet, website or what have you.
3071  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Freewallet scam on: May 09, 2022, 08:14:26 PM
Is there any hope? I'm feeling despondent
As you can see from the post above posted by DireWolfM14 that website is a scam which means there is no way to recover your money.

What you can only do is report their website on NameCheap.

Code:
Registrar Abuse Contact Email: email@namecheap.com
Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: +1.6613102107

And try to get help on SEC they can may be able to trace them or take down the domain.

3072  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Amount to safely transfer from exchange to hardware wallet on: May 08, 2022, 11:34:55 PM
I really appreciate all the advice.  Thanks everyone for helping out!

Just adding this if you are living in the US you can only have tax if you sell your Bitcoin based on a Binance statement there is a Binance.us exchange they have a free tax statement portal where you can able to calculate all trades buy/sell but since you are going to sell it I'm sure you won't pay large tax after calculation.

Check this link from Binance.us below

3073  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how can we get merit points? on: May 08, 2022, 10:54:57 PM
paying with bitcoin i lose personal privacy
sharing too much i lose personal privacy

i just need 1 single point so i can share images.  the bitcointalk merit system is the perfect example of a religious cult.

Actually, no one knows who you are and even if you pay for the copper membership forum do not ask for your name so you won't get lose of your privacy except on exchanges where your Bitcoin came from.

Why don't you just use a mixer if you don't want to lose your privacy?

What I see here from your all post you are trying to beg for 1 merit why not try to go to OgNasty's thread? You can just provide your Bitcoin address and sign message here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5300698.0

And then get merited if you are lucky.
3074  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: S19s and M30s over 100 th needed in USA . on: May 08, 2022, 09:58:28 PM
You can try to contact offordscott he mostly promotes ASIC machines in the USA.

Or you can try to contact him through telegram https://t.me/offordscott or email here offordscott@gmail.com or check his official thread here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5138318.0
3075  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 1166 Avalon Lost Data on: May 08, 2022, 09:39:01 PM
Yes, I can get to the Dashboard of the miner through the IP, all the routine vitals are on.
Miner status is red, hashing at 80th, top box on the fans indicates red while the bottom 3 are green.
No IP, MAC or Firmware version data is showing on the bottom.
I tried the reset button, and I tried the Func button in the manner you recommended, got the same result.

If you can access it through a browser then copy the whole log and paste it here use the insert code tag the button looks like this
To make your logs clean and easy to read or you can paste them to pastebin.com and paste the URL here

It should show something about your miner and we can easily analyze the issue by reading the whole logs.
3076  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: sending with electrum on: May 06, 2022, 11:31:58 PM
Bitmaxz,

I di the transaction all within Trezor, as it support both coins and I read in the documentation that a person could exchange an amount of Bitcoin for an equal value of Bitcoin Cash by an exchange option which allows such thing to happen.

As for the addresses, it is in a legacy account that starts with "3q"

Are you sure you are trying to exchange Bitcoin with an equal amount? Bitcoin and BCH price is totally different so it's impossible that you can able to exchange your Bitcoin with an equal BCH amount.

Unless you are dealing with someone? If yes then you have been scammed.
Or you might be trying to claim your fork coins from your Bitcoin and the documentation you are following is the guide for claiming fork coins like BCH? in this case you will get an equal amount if your Bitcoin is untouched during fork. And you are trying to send BCH back(not the Bitcoin) to your Bitcoin address?
3077  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 1166 Avalon Lost Data on: May 06, 2022, 11:17:18 PM
Can you access the IP through browser?
Try to access it to incognito mode if you can't able to access it due to the IP not being reachable try to remove other miners first and only connect the 1166 miner with the different ethernet cable.

If still can't able to access try to hold the reset button or IP report/Func button for 15 seconds then release and replug it on the outlet then try it to scan the IP again.
If it doesn't work then you might have a PSU issue if you have an extra PSU try to replace it.
3078  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Any Large Legacy S9 Non AsicBoost Miners out there? on: May 06, 2022, 11:01:03 PM
Why not buy any s9 miner you can flash it to non-asicboost firmware?

You can do that by flashing it through SD card you can follow this below

And then flash it through WebGUI with 2017 firmware still available from the Bitmain download page.
3079  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do I protect my money? on: May 06, 2022, 10:46:12 PM
Thank you very much, everyone. What do you think about Ledger and Bitlox?

Why not check this review by Voskcoin here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5288629.0
Or check this big list of hardware wallets with reviews here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5282364.0

Electrum installed the latest version from the official site,Windows 10 OS
Only mazilla and wallet are installed on it,no other files in the system
It's good to be back in the hangout again  Wink

Be careful there is no mazilla it might be malware or are you talking about the Mozilla browser?
Like I said you should have installed Antivirus without them there is a big possibility if you connect your PC to the internet and access some unknown site that could access your PC or inject some viruses your Electrum is not safe. It's always recommended to use Antivirus that supports Crypto and Bitcoin.
3080  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Decode a signed transaction to find the private key? on: May 05, 2022, 11:49:31 PM
Thanks for your explanation.
He just wants to broadcast two transactoions at a time.
So there is no possibility of hacking a wallet by decoding a raw transaction.

So you mean he wants to combine two transactions with your sign raw transaction?

He won't be able to do that what he can do only is to broadcast the transaction. The generated raw transaction is unique for every transaction and private keys are not included in this.

Why don't you just broadcast it instead of giving it to him for safety purposes?
