never invest a "minimum $1m per investor" into a brand with no funding to even lease a proper office
I didn't know the backstory of Valkyrie. Nothing wrong about changing the firm mission (Hey, did you hear Microstrategy is now a bitcoin company?). But I do agree on the background check when required for investing. Dear old due diligence.

Usual game for the first day of the year. Pretty easy if you are a member of this thread and you remember my past posts. What I am looking at? Where am I? ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ibb.co%2Fx574JR8%2F61535153.jpg&t=663&c=ojPrR7JIILed8Q) Shit, got no time, but i can remember. I won't give out a hint, though (or should i?) Up to you! Somewhere between Italy and Switzerland… but on Italian side, under the peak of Alps.
Vague and not correct.
around Jungfrau Top of Europe? Switzerland?
or you come back around here?
Not. Close, but not cigar.

the nasty thing is.... valkeries "business address" (320 seven springs way brentwood) is a virtual address(modern po box)
When I said I doubted the move would be successful, I didn't expect that. Regarding the capital, we know how fast money cn be poured into a vehicle. But regarding the virtual address, yes, this is a bad sign. Even if an investment vehicle don't need too much of an office space, this is not reassuring at all.

This is probably Luke's fault. He is human. He knows a lot, and probably trusted more than he should in his skills.
Complacency. This is the root cause of all this. Thinking you are safe, make you do stupid things. For example not moving your coins when you had the proof of a successful attack to your servers. Did he had all those 3 million USD in the same wallet? Why didn't he put in at least 5 different wallets?
Those aver very old UTXO from a time when there were no such things as "wallets" , or proper HD ones. In the compromised wallet.dat (now I get the irony of your question), there were UTXO with unrelated private keys, if this is what you are asking for.

Can someone that knows him tell him to post something on his Mastodon or Bitcointalk account. People are asking him to post on another social medium to prove its him but he refuses. Normally he posts first to Mastodon and then Twitter, however now he doesn't post anything on Mastodon. <...>
All I can tell is someone else has been trying to contact him and while someone had confirmation of all this (Peter Todd, he confirmed over Twitter the story is original), other haven't been able to contact him directly (Giacomo Zucco confirmed he messaged him on Telegram, but he hasn't got any answer so far.).

The transaction weren't conjoined. If there were a conjoin he wouldn't possibly be traced to a final address. He might mean that PART of the input in those transactions are his original UTXO? 1YAR.. is not an address under his control, so the heuristic claiming all the funds are from this hack has to be proven. For sure, he is not adding clarity to this story.

like myself. i have hoards from earlier years. that have not been moved. so due to lack of multisig in early years it wouldnt have been put on multisig when first received. and (even i havnt) bothered to move coins from old stash
As I said, this story will have te positive fallout of making us reconsider why we "didn't bother" to do something. Not stating that multisig is the right choice, but the "didn't bother to..." is the wrong one. Every action, or every non action, means there is a need of an assessment of risks.

Jack Mallers wrote a Medium Update as a wrap-up update of all the announcements made back in Miami last year: Strike Commerce UpdateYo. Today, I’m excited to share an update around the partnerships I announced at Bitcoin 2022.
It's an interesting post, but some bit of information literally blew my mind, even if they were already in Strike's philosophy: Same goes for our Lightning Network integrations. Our integrations are NOT only for Strike wallets. The QR codes, NFC readers, and whatever other mediums we use to process payments are all open, interoperable, Lightning Network payments. Anybody using any wallet can pay our partners with whatever wallet they choose.
Really looking forward one of the most ubiquitous implementation of the LN so far

Well this is a bad story.
200 BTC are huge money for most of us, but Luke Himself said it' a "large" part, not "all" of his Bitcoins.
Two consequences: 1.A lot of bad FUD will come out of this story. "if even an OG bitcoin- core developer" cannot take his Bitcoin safe, who on Earth will be able to do so?" 2.Many of us will review practices to become more responsible managing satoshi. A long overdue review of all the processes involving UTXO manipulation will be carried out by most of us, following this new. And this is a good thing.

According to Bloomberg Valkyrie Investment is aiming to scoop up to 50% of GBTC shares, aiming at becoming the new GBTC sponsor: Valkyrie Unveils Proposal for Grayscale’s Troubled Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) (Bloomberg) -- Valkyrie Investments is out with a proposal for a much larger rival product: to become the new sponsor and manager of the crypto industry’s largest fund, the Grayscale Bitcoin trust. The Nashville, Tennessee-based asset manager, which oversees roughly $180 million, on Friday announced the launch of the Valkyrie Opportunistic Fund, which seeks to take advantage of the massive discount in Grayscale Investments’ $10.5 billion product (GBTC). The Valkyrie fund will be increasing its holdings of GBTC, allowing the company to realize “the true value of the underlying Bitcoin for our investors,” which it says is a goal it will actively pursue on their behalf, according to the company. I strongly doubt the move will be successful, but hopefully it will help closing the NAV discount as the is some sort of "soft commitment" by another "big swinging dick in the industry.
