3081  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU FPGA overclock monitor fanspeed GCN RPC linux/windows 2.6.2 on: August 04, 2012, 07:10:03 PM
Just upgraded to 2.6.2.

When I try to disable a pool from the menu it says "cannot disable last pool".  All I do is press P and D and get this message, I don't get a chance to select a pool to disable.

oops, looks like something eat me one core and miner not have enough priority.
It works same now Smiley
Sorry!

It (miner) is not very cpu hungry (taking about 1-2%), but better to rise it priority to "above normal".

I always run cgminer at "realtime" priority! Grin

Really? Does that make a difference in hash rate?

Does 2.60 not leak shares to backup pools anymore?

3084  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What do you do with mined coins? on: July 26, 2012, 10:30:40 AM
I invest them in the GLBSE or deposit them for interest payments.

What is GLBSE?

3085  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Best option for someone GPU mining? on: July 24, 2012, 11:50:41 PM
I may give p2pool a try. What would be a better pool to mine at. Currently (don't shoot me) I'm mining at deepbit. I know I've read that its the least profitable pool.

Deepbit is not the least profitable pool.  It's still the most reliable, so if you leave your miners unattended for extended periods of time that could easily make it more profitable than most others.

Other than that give Ozcoin a try for a few day's.  I'm GPU mining and use both of those pools as well as BTC Guild.  But I'm not selling my coins for a profit, I'm putting them in my mattress Smiley.

Why is the site down now for few days!!!

but my miners are mining at 2.8gh still, are miners still mining and getting paid?

thx

The web site has been up for me.

Did anyone else notice that the pool statistics are missing?

Says they are delayed by an hour, but they never show up for me...

The luck calculations go away for a while after a difficulty change.  Sometimes they forget to put it back up for a while.

I have finally solved a block!

Yay me Smiley

solo or pool?

If he was solo, he would of only have 50 BTC as all he has done is 1 block.
What a stupid question, isn't it obvious he's in a pool?

Hmm,  I've found two blocks on Ozco and one on BTC guild.  So your saying that if I was solo mining with my 500Mhash I would be ahead?  Maybe maybe not.

I can't believe he has only found one block on a pool all this time with that hash rate.

How do I let AMD Catalyst or MSI AB control fan speed instead of CGminer?

Don't you just remove the --Auto-fan command line argument?

My AVG antivirus reports that libpdcurses.dll is a password keylogger, I'm assuming this is false?

What is that free Microsoft antivirus?
Someone told me to use Microsoft antivirus + Microsoft firewall.

Sometimes, also, with a lower overclock setting and lower hashrate you will get a higher Utility.
Sam

Care to explain how that works?

No,I can't explain how that works, but, ckolivas posted a suggestion a while back.

He said that once you find your max GPU Engine clock that your card runs stable at try to drop your GPU clock 5Mhz at a time to see if there's a sweet spot where your Utility increases.  I tried that and I did find a spot where my Utility went up a little at a lower GPU Clock.

Maybe ckolivas could elaborate on that?
YMMV,
Sam
I did not ever say that. I said there are certain engine/memory clock combinations where the hashrate rises more than linearly with engine clock speed with the unorthodox kernels like phatk. Utility is hashrate * random luck and it should just be linearly related to hashrate.

I think this is the post I was referring to.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28402.msg742189#msg742189

When I was doing this I did find a spot where my Utility increased and obviously my hashrate increased too.  Funny how the minds eye works sometimes Smiley

And you verified this over a 24-48 hour period to negate any U variances, right?

After I found the clock that produced a higher Utility I ran it there for a while.  So yes.  Right now I'm back to running stock clocks since I'm running the AC.

Correct; I get the same when the AMD driver crashes and recovers. Quitting Cgminer and restarting it will allow you to start mining again.

Back off on your overclock a bit. Cgminer pushes your cards a bit harder than some other miner programs, and you can usually achieve the same or better hash rate with a lower overclock.
Not in my case. Overclock down — less Hashrate.

It would be great if author would make autorestart programm, after driver crash in next version of Cgminer.

Well of course a lower overclock will get you lower hashrates. What he's saying is that CGMiner at a 920MHz OC might be equal to another program at a 940MHz OC.

Sometimes, also, with a lower overclock setting and lower hashrate you will get a higher Utility.

I would just like to chime in about how cgminer sends misc shares to backup pools when not busy enough..

my 4th backup pool is solo (as i think all miners should have solo as final backup to protect network)

well cgminer found me this block https://blockchain.info/block-height/188729 a couple of hours ago.. what are the odds?

thank you clovias

My 5th backup is solo as well.  Though I haven't had any nice surprises like you just did.  Good for you.

I wonder how often this happens?  Anyone else find a block with a solo backup, I wonder?

anonymity and privacy?

the total lack of this is how people were able to tell me what I did 6 months ago!

Isn't that because the address you paid to had been made public by it's owner?

If a Bitcoin veteran can make this kind of mistake, something needs to be done to make the addressing foolproof.

Making anything "foolproof" just breeds more efficient fools.

Maybe a higher expectation of people to exercise a little bit of personal responsibility would be more productive.

It seems to me Goat has demonstrated the proper attitude in taking responsibility and helping us all to learn a valuable lesson.

But hey, I'm just weird that way,
Sam

Well bitcoin is not foolproof enough for my parents and it will never be for my grandparents. and yeah, i fucked up and I was multi tasking and very distracted.

The community here has helped me track it down to odds are GLBSE 1.0 so maybe I have a shot of getting it back.

if so that would be awesome. I did open a ticket about it at the request of nefario and I know he is busy and fail like this is not, nor should be his priority.

I hope your successful in getting your coins back.  Even the possibility says allot about the bitcoin community.

To make transactions more foolproof will ultimately take away the anonymity and privacy that is now inherent in Bitcoin.

In time there will be more mature services and new devices which will ameliorate error's like this, if one chooses to make use of them and therefore relinquish some privacy and anonymity.

Members that donate 5% back to the pool get payouts on blockfind, this was implemented for impatient people Cheesy

Hmm, I thought it was a way to help encourage people to help fund the pool?  I'm not all that impatient but I don't mind paying for something that is a value to me, that value being the pool not instant payouts.
