3081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will you be in favor of Gold or Bitcoin !! on: July 05, 2022, 01:46:34 AM
Bitcoin is just a superior form of gold.

And gold isn't even that great to begin with.

For example, Norway, a rich country, doesn't even have gold reserves. This is one of the reasons why, from the Norwegian Central Bank:

The return on gold has historically been low.

Gold is not really scarce at all.

Here's the world production of gold per year: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/gold-production

Yeah, I agree.

That's insane, I would always put Brazil as the winner against England. There's just no way England can win against them.

I also still remember the "Hand of God" of Maradona in England vs Argentina.

I just think England doesn't get good results against South American teams.

I believe some matches are fixed and some things are already decided. Even Italy played bad in qualifying rounds but they are managing to play the tournament.
But let's see how they play the important matches. But I believe portugal and Germany will reach the final.
not just some matches, if you think some are fixed then I would assume most of them are, it's like they gave Italy the Euro but they had to not qualify for the world cup, anyways the final you mentioned with Portugal and German seems tough to happen, I'm expecting a Latin team to win the world cup this year since it's been 19 years when the last one won it which was Brazil, they are the favourites for me unless Argentina made a surprise.
[/quote]

Messi will clearly want to win this world cup, so I'm sure Argentina will be playing their A game. But Brazil has a great team and they're just so good that it's hard not to see them in the final or at least semi finals really...

But then you also have Germany, and Spain, which are just fantastic teams. Man, it's going to be an amazing world cup. Such a shame that Italy didn't manage to qualify. But that's soccer, you never know what will happen.
3084  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / There is a Museum of Bitcoin Mining History in Caracas, Venezuela on: July 05, 2022, 01:32:30 AM
About a year ago, a Museum of Bitcoin Mining History was opened in Caracas, Venezuela:

the exhibition will show the evolution of Bitcoin mining since its central processing unit (CPU) origins, passing through the graphics processing unit (GPU) mining stage. Then finally arriving at the current application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) or integrated circuit (IC) mining era that the industry is experiencing. One of the objectives of this museum is to increase awareness about bitcoin mining in the general population, as Joan Telo, a member of Criptoavila stated. He stressed:

We decided to take this step because, until now, there is no, or at least not publicly, place where people can observe evolution and we felt it was necessary.

Our idea is to add equipment to the museum as we get them because we want to be a world reference on this issue of the evolutionary process of cryptocurrency mining.

I think this is a very interesting idea, and I would love to visit a museum like this:

If anyone is interested in visiting(it's free), here is the actual address: F5R2+633, Final de Av. Libertador, Torre Xerox de Venezuela, PB, Altamira, Mun, Caracas 1060, Miranda, Venezuela

You also have to remember that not everything is transparent.

For example, that photo of the newspaper reporting negatively about the Internet, is probably because the newspaper industry correctly saw the Internet as a threat, so they tried to change the public opinion about it.

In a similar way, you will see reports from central banks all around the world talking negative things about Bitcoin, because they correctly see Bitcoin as a threat to them.

Whatever you see in the media has been carefully selected and edited so that most people's opinions are controlled in a certain way.

The best thing you can do is to simply read about Bitcoin from the original sources, and make up your own mind about it. Here's a site that conveniently has all the original material: https://satoshi.nakamotoinstitute.org
3087  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is -not- "still in its infancy" on: July 05, 2022, 12:53:58 AM
I Agree. Bitcoin is not still in its infancy.

You can clearly see at least a few stages in the development of Bitcoin, and there have been several different episodes already, things like Mt Gox, the silk road, Block size war, lightning, El Salvador, etc.

I can see that now we're starting a new era, in which many banks and financial services want to offer "Bitcoin" without the ability to withdraw it. This seems like a worldwide phenomena, happening in different countries in their banks. This has to be something planned. It's just another chapter of Bitcoin.

Having said that, Bitcoin is still new to many people in the world, and it's still not moving a vast amount of money. For example, the IMF last year simply generated more than the entire market cap of Bitcoin out of thin air.

Bitcoin is still small, but not in its infancy.
3088  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Will Be a Failure Even If It Hits $100,000, Says "Black Swan" Author !! on: July 05, 2022, 12:46:07 AM
Bitcoin will continue to generate blocks, roughly every 10 minutes.

Transactions will continue to be made all around the world, 24/7, unrestricted.

New services will continue to be built on top of Bitcoin, such as lightning.

Not sure how that is a failure, independent of the price of it, which most probably will continue to rise.

I think he just wants to be featured in https://www.bitcoinisdead.org since I haven't see him there yet.

I think it's still worth the effort to try and recover the wallet file.

You don't have to pay anything. You can try using one of the best open source recovery tools out there, PhotoRec. It's available here: https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

Quote
PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from hard disks, CD-ROMs, and lost pictures (thus the Photo Recovery name) from digital camera memory. PhotoRec ignores the file system and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's file system has been severely damaged or reformatted.

Take your time, read the documentation, and try to recover the wallet file, for free.

It should be able to recover Bitcoin wallet files, as discussed here https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1byfy0/photorec_able_to_find_lost_wallets/

I don't think Brasil is the biggest favorite for this tournament but they are always in the discussion. They used to have more powerful squad but now they are mid team at best. Neymar is not the ideal leader, they are far away from real Ronaldo and then Ronaldinho era.
England never had an achievement for years, they always say maybe this time but it never happens. I'll probably stick with Argentina this time as I want Messi to finally lift the trophy before he retires.

Brazil hasn't lost a single match in the entire qualification stage. And that's in CONMEBOL, one of the most competitive confederations of the world cup. Argentina has the same stats.

For comparison, the other two teams that qualified, Uruguay and Ecuador, have both lost six matches.

That tells you something about how good Brazil and Argentina are.

is it okay to run the compac f with 200Mhz without a cooling fan? I tried it but it gets very hot. What is the maximum recommended working temperature for it?

I'm not sure there's a safe speed to run them without a fan. They get pretty hot.

And also these work better at higher speeds, so it doesn't really make too much sense to run them slowly, and therefore it doesn't make too much sense to run them without a fan.

You can get a PWM controlled fan that is pretty much noiseless and you would be able to run the compac f at full speed without worrying about it melting down or causing a fire hazard.
3093  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 266 blocks solved! on: July 01, 2022, 06:24:52 AM
25ph for 24 hours or 100ph for 6 hours

It makes no difference.

Unless that 18 hour window contains the difficulty adjustment, which happens roughly every 2 weeks. Then one option might be slightly easier or harder than the other.

But yeah, that's the exception of the rule, in general it doesn't matter.

There are a few teams missing out. Russia and Italy are missing from UEFA, Chile from CONMEBOL and Nigeria from the CAF. Unfortunately world cup only have 32 slots and one or two of the best teams miss out during qualification every time. Anyway, the chances will be lower for 2026 edition, as the number of participants is going up from 32 to 48. But the increase is mostly coming from AFC and CAF, so we may still witness a few of the good teams from Europe and South America failing to qualify for the main tournament.

Yeah, there will be more countries playing in 2026, but the whole tournament will be structured in a different way.

We'll see how it goes, but I'm not sure bringing more countries is always a good thing. The World Cup is the highest level of football in the world, so there's a minimum of skill expected.

I guess bringing more countries bring more money as well, but that's another story...

It is such a hard and difficult thing to win World Cup that even with one amazing player, you will not be able to get it. Not at their age, not when they were younger neither, it is near impossible task. You need to have a lot of great players, look at France for example, they do have Mbappe but they have other great players as well.

So in order to win this cup, you need to have players on all positions and you need to win a lot. Without that, you are not going to be good and you are going to end up getting bad results while one player would be scoring. Becoming a team and having a great generation of players all at the same time matters the most.

Yeah, that's why I think Brazil is in a really good position now to win the cup.

Every single Brazilian player is just solid at least, and some are extremely talented. It doesn't matter in which position they play, they are just good. There's no bad player there.

It's no surprise that Brazil has won the world cup five times already and they qualified for this World Cup without losing a single match.

That's just impressive, specially in such a competitive confederation.

One big difference between Maradona's era and the current era is the level of professionalism. It was far easier back in the 80s for one exceptional player to carry a team, as Maradona did particularly in Italia 90. Nowadays teams are a lot more professional, with better tactics, better fitness etc... and it's tougher even for the best player in the world to make the same difference. Messi is certainly at the Maradona level, it's just that the opposition has improved.

Yeah, I agree with that.

Messi has made very similar goals to the iconic ones from Maradona that everyone remembers. I would even say that Messi has better technical skills than Maradona.

But still I wouldn't say Messi is at the iconic level of Maradona.

That's why Messi is one of the best players in the world, but Maradona is remembered as D10S (God).
3097  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best time of the day to buy Bitcoin on: June 29, 2022, 06:31:38 AM
Obviously some users have disagreed with the points raised for very obvious reasons. So, I try to I'll help you out. In my own opinion for best time of the day, month or year to buy bitcoin are:
  • When you are sober. Not too happy or too sad.
  • After you have done your own research and created a budget.
  • Not after you have watched the news.
  • Not when your friends are buying because they were told to buy the dip.

Those are some good points.

I would add that automation usually is the most reliable answer to almost everything.

You can always setup an automatic transfer and/or buy with different banks and exchanges. You could do this every month for a fixed amount every time.

It's the same with saving, and investing. Set it once at levels you're comfortable with, and continue with your life, monitoring it from time to time.

If your situation changes, you can adjust the value, but keep it always active.

I don't think, Argentina will miss this world cup title because their players always take this world cup competition serious than any other competition. Based on their passed performance showed that no team can defeat Argentina because their defense and midfield is very strong, which will be difficult for any team to achieve  goal. Many teams are also preparing for this world cup but it will be difficult for them to achieve  the title, because Argentina know how to achieve victory from all those teams in world cup competition.

Yeah, but Messi is not Maradona  Grin

Argentina will be close, but my guess is that they will not win this World Cup.

But who knows, many surprises can happen... Italy didn't even qualify this time!

Major European teams can knock out Brazil. When I remember the match in which Germany scored 7 goals against Brazil, I think that a tournament where every possibility is waiting for us. For the World Cup, I see France, Brazil, Netherlands and Argentina as favorites on paper.

Absolutely.

It will be an amazing World Cup.

My guess is that these teams will perform extremely well:

Netherlands, England, Argentina, France, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Uruguay.

Man, it's going to be a very competitive tournament!
3100  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best time of the day to buy Bitcoin on: June 29, 2022, 01:59:30 AM
Best time to buy Bitcoin is always 10 years ago or so.

It doesn't really matter at what time of the day you're buying. Price will move up and down randomly in the short term, averaging out any differences in the long term.

Also, if you're doing this often, probably you're not using a lot of fiat, which also means that the differences in price are minuscule.

There's no need to worry about timing this, just be consistent and patient.
