I believe this thread would have been more effective with a poll!   Shocked  Wink

I was going to say he should have put a poll on with only two options:

Should we remove polls?

*Yes
*Yes

Removing polls from everywhere is just stupid.
There are some places where it is good.

It's called a joke.

3082  Other / Meta / Re: Global Moderators fired? on: July 12, 2018, 10:59:09 AM
They're not 'fired' per se, but as with most staff if you become inactive after x amount of time you usually have your mod status removed. Grue and Salty haven't really been active moderating for quite some time and both their mod payments have been zero for the past two months and grue's even longer than that, so that means they handled zero reports and probably why they were de-modded.

Should we not find a new mods first before removing inactive mods? Any update of to whom the spots were moved? I expect that there is already one who filled the position I am just not sure tho if that mod was newly appointed

I don't think new mods need to be found to replace everyone that leaves or are removed, but Rickbig was made a Global a few months back and he probably covers both their workload as he's very active in moderating. As I've been saying for years though, workload should be distributed around better. There's been no dedicated mod of big boards like Bitcoin Discussion for years and that certainly could do with it's own one. The alt coin section is getting swamped now and mprep was always overloaded as it's a huge board, but now that section is getting worse since he become a Global and doesn't have enough time to dedicate to it.

I've noticed since the new reports page is available that when I report a newbie that all moderators can deal with the report is usually handled very quickly but when I report a Jr. Member or above it often takes many hours or sometimes even a couple of days to get handled. That's what I'm basing my opinion that the global mods are overworked on.

They're handled more quickly because there are more of them. Pretty much most mods are already patrollers and there's only three Globals who have everything to deal with plus issuing bans and handling reported PMs etc.
3083  Other / Meta / Re: SIGNATURE CAMPAIGNS COULD ALSO BE A SOURCE OF THE SPAMMING on: July 12, 2018, 10:48:09 AM
A much better suggestion would be to hold bounty campaigns and their managers responsible for the crap people are posting under their bounties. If they're accepting anyone without any quality controls and spamming and copy and pasting is rife then there should be some repercussions for that and until there is nothing will really change around here.

Force bounty managers to make a list with the usernames of the people they are accepting for the bounty.
Compare then the list with the members banned, once they reach x users the bounty manager gets also banned.

Most have spreadsheets that can be viewed. I think there should be some rule in place that if say 5 or 10 users on your campaign are banned for low quality posts or copy and pasting then your campaign also meets some punishments (thread deleted, accounts banned, signatures backlisted etc). This would soon make bounty managers and the people responsible clean up their campaigns. They only do nothing now because they don't need to as there's no repercussions at all for accepting anyone and paying for anything.

But back to serious and things that might be done...
Can we get rid of ALL CAPS titles?

But capslock means it's serious business and must be seen.
3084  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: July 12, 2018, 10:43:38 AM
So I've got this game down as 1-1 and they're about to start extra time with that score now. Got a feeling I'll get shafted again with a late goal like in the Russia game. Getting 700 points from this game is pretty much the only way I'll still be in the running for top five. Really wish it was just the 90 minutes they take the scores from. Far too hard to predict the draws this way.

Edit: Absolute bastards.
It hurts doesn't it? I got the game to 2-2 but I know that a late goal from Croatia will be hard to match by England. The sad thing to see is that the early goal in England got me confident about seeing early goals from each side, my confidence suddenly shrink when the first half suddenly became boring with only a few attempts in each side. But oh well I have screwed up big time on this part of the Pool, Good luck to the rest who is still competing for the top spot of the leaderboard.

Late goals that fuck up your winnings are always the worst. It's like the points/money is already yours then it's snatched away at the last moment. I'm 955 points behind second place LFC_Bitcoin now (assuming the tables are correct). Gonna put some crazy scores in for the third place play off and the final and hope for the best. The only hope I have for the tournament now is a Croatia win but I think France will spank them.

Well done to Croatia, they deserved to play in the final. England showed just a pathetic gameplay tonight with Harry Cane in total shadow, in fact I don't remember if he got a ball tonight. Croatia this year have world calibre players, but against France it will be tough if not impossible for them to win.

Yeah, it was like Kane wasn't even playing in that match. Trippier and Pickford have been the stand-out players for me. The only consolation I'll have from this tournament now is if Croatia go onto win the tournament which will get me £165 from a free five pound bet. Put £100 worth of bets on so need to recoup my money haha. I guess there's the third place play off yet, but I reckon both sides will put out B teams again just to give people a game, especially those who haven't played much if at all. I think France will be too strong foir Croatia, though as the underdogs they'll be fired up.
3087  Other / Meta / Re: SIGNATURE CAMPAIGNS COULD ALSO BE A SOURCE OF THE SPAMMING on: July 11, 2018, 08:20:33 PM
We all wondering how we will curb the level of spamming on this forum but we have not realize this. One thing I have noticed about bounty campaigns is that, they are all having vast differences in the number of post that signature campaigners should post for their weekly stakes. Some wants 10 and others 15 some even wants 20 looking at the number of characters they want us to post. Although I am not saying signature campaign is bad but what I think should be done by the forum mods is that they should give an announcement out which will limit all signature campaigns to 10 posts and that will partially help solve the problem.

This is because when someone joins a campaign and they want 15 post and the person joins 2/3 days to the close of that week, the person tries to post all the 15 posts thereby spamming the forum with so many post within the 2 or 3 days.

Also bounty campaign managers should make sure that anyone who joins their campaign 2-3 days to the end of the week will not receive stakes for that week unless the person waits for the start of the following week.

If all these are done I think it will help reduce the spam on this forum.

What you're suggesting isn't anything new and people have called for limiting the amount of posts that are required on a campaign for years, but this wouldn't really stop the issue. Most ICOs accept anyone so people would just create multiple accounts to get around any limitations that you put on them and campaigns are lazy and won't enforce this so this is then something staff would then have to police and enforce and if we were going to do that it would be better done in different ways. A much better suggestion would be to hold bounty campaigns and their managers responsible for the crap people are posting under their bounties. If they're accepting anyone without any quality controls and spamming and copy and pasting is rife then there should be some repercussions for that and until there is nothing will really change around here.
3088  Other / Meta / Re: Can we stop polls being made in certain parts of the forum? on: July 11, 2018, 08:10:08 PM
But what sections would you prohibit them from and how could we implement that as to not effect their legitimate use? As others have said, this is just more of an annoyance than something that should be banned or restricted from certain sections, but I agree it can be annoying sometimes. I think it's mostly just kids who find a new toy to play with and they just add them in for the sake of it. I've seen polls where there's only two options and both are the same before. I guess you could report them if they're beyond stupid or are useless and they could be edited out by a staff member, but a better thing would probably just to ignore them. I think if you start to get really annoyed by these sorts of little things then this forum is just going to drive you insane  Cheesy.

3089  Economy / Reputation / Re: Quickseller receives 20BTC, does not do work, keeps $ **not disputed!** on: July 11, 2018, 07:55:47 PM
btw, is this still the same TradeFortress [aka quickseller]?

Probably.
Roll Eyes

Probably being the operative word. That doesn't mean he doesn't think that you and tf are or have always been the same person. He might say the same if he was asked directly about that.
1- you fraudulently altered that quote and enough people know the area where I live and the area TF lives for it to be reasonable to say we are not the same person.

2- you know very well that theymos cannot say without a doubt that an account is being run by it’s original owner so you are basically saying that because you speculate something that you have zero evidence of cannot be disproven it must be true. That is the exact kind of logic that would make me question their judgement.

3- BadBear confirmed years ago I have no unknown alts, which you choose to ignore.

1) Fraudulently altered lol. I put the square brackets in to emphasise that what he said doesn't mean you are two different people. In fact, if theymos is of the opinion that you're the same (which he may or may not be), then it would back up what BadBear said.

2) Of course it is speculation, but as I said before I really don't care on how you perceive me or my judgement.

3) See what suchmoon wrote, but which BadBear statement should we take as gospel? The one when he says there's no alts, but disregard the one where he thinks you are tf? This is probably one of those things that is pointless even discussing because without concrete proof either way then all it is going to be is speculation, but let's not forget admins have access to more info than we do and there's obviously more going on here than meets the eye.

Wait.... Do you think QS could just be talking to himself over two different accounts?  Shocked  Roll Eyes
That was my first thought, but I don't know if there's any proof for that.  I would spin around on my head giggling like a school girl if it could be proven.  That amount of bitcoin always struck me as ludicrous to be sending for a service like what it apparently was, and QS pulling off such a puppet show wouldn't be out of character for him.

There's probably no concrete (or public) proof linking them together, but BadBear once told me years ago that he was 'almost certain' they were the same and this was before this potential vod lawsuit deal shenanigans. Personally, I'm not sure if they've always been one and the same but I find it more probable that QS just bought the TF account or at least controlled it at one point (and maybe still does), but that's just my opinion.
3092  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: July 11, 2018, 06:28:13 PM
Here is an image of a bad report. Got one while reporting homographs.
https://imgur.com/a/Hs9gX5W

I'm looking for a free a bit more advanced screen recorder /without an watermark/ and when I get a free time on a PC I'll help you out with the guide. Maybe I can cut off the video to a small pieces and make a step-by-step gifs which you can use embed here Smiley

If they're copy and paste ones please link to the original they've copied. Some mods might not be aware of the homographs spam so mark it bad.

Have I ever mentioned that we need a mascot for the forum? Kind of like how Uncle Sam represents the American government.

Coming from 4chan, I've been disappointed that there's very little fanart for bitcointalk.org. (Though it's not surprising, since 4chan is an imageboard and this is a text-focused BBS-type forum.)

I'm sure somebody would create one. Maybe throw a bounty up. I always liked the Mr Bitty logo someone designed a while back:

The BTC symbol as his mask is a nice touch.

3094  Other / Meta / Re: Junior member 1000 Activity, Legendary Member 1000 activity. Is it fair? on: July 11, 2018, 05:38:32 PM
I seriously think there should be a minimum merit requirement to become a Junior Member. Maybe require just one or a few merit, because far too many shitposters are becoming Juniors including spam bots and once they hit Junior the accounts can't be 'nuked' which is annoying. Requiring one merit would at least prevent spambots from getting out of newbie status and getting one merit shouldn't be that difficult for regular users.

I am just thinking if by 1 to 2 years,I stayed on this forum and make contribution to this community but unfortunately no one give me a merit, and at same time I make 1000 quality post,I will still be a junior member just like a legend. Is it fair? Sir Thymos.

If you can't earn at least the minimum amount of merit to raise up a rank within the space of two yeats then you probably don't deserve to be here to be honest. I find that it's actually quite easy to get merit as long as you put some effort and thought into your posts, but this is obliviously too difficulty for some people.
3095  Other / Meta / Re: Wall of fame / shame. Shit posts so bad that they are actually funny on: July 11, 2018, 05:24:10 PM
One from yesterday:

Best kind of frogs

We all know frogs are amazing animals. They eat bugs, they hop around, they're just all around cool animals.

But which kind is the best? What do you think? I had some green tree frogs and they were awesome.

It's probably a copy and paste from somewhere as well.

Necrombumped today:

Automatic transmission or manual transmission?

Ok, this one is a bit unfair because the original is in Russian so translation is probably distorting the thoughtful and deep discussion going on for 50 pages of this thread...

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3092882

I do feel a bit sick after reading this so maybe I should go post there.

Trashed that thread earlier. I dread to think what goes on in some of the local boards with no mod at all (or not a very active one). The local Vietnamese thread was just hundreds of users copy and pasting bits of nursery rhymes pages after page because they quickly learned they could get away with it.
3096  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: July 11, 2018, 05:11:50 PM
I'm 954 points behind third place so unless I get a perfect score tonight with my joker, which will get me 708, I guess I'll be out of the running for a top five spot.

I was disappointed to see Belgium crashing out of this world cup tournament as they just need one more win against France to get into the finals, I have made my prediction on Belgium to win 2-1 against France, but it seems that France are just way too strong at the moment as they have created a lot of good scoring chances in the match, even though Thibaut Courtois made a lot of amazing saves against France, but it is simply not good enough if the Belgium strikers are not doing their job to score in the game.
Do you think that France is going to beat the Croatia? Assuming that Croatia wins the Match against England. But I don’t know but my prediction is on Croatia and hopefully they win and that when they face against France in the finals, it’s going to be an exciting game.  They have been a balanced attack team. The past is not going to hinder Croatia’s thrive to be the winner. Harry Kane would be a challenge for them to overcome.

Whoever wins I don't think they will be any match for France. Croatia and England got to the semis by the luck of the draw really and neither have had a comfortable route in their knock out games, especially Croatia.

3097  Other / Meta / Re: Why the trust is not shown in all sections. on: July 11, 2018, 12:54:00 PM
Trust should not have any bearing on your perception of the person posting. It's only natural to see a trust rating, and assume that the person is talking bollocks or aren't worth listening to if they have a negative rating. In reality this isn't the case.

On the other side it sometimes helps distinguish trolls and people you shouldn't waste your time with. I've previously seen people 'talking bollocks' in Bitcoin Discussion and wasted my time trying to engage them and then when you then see their profile and it's littered with red you suddenly realise they're a troll and that's all their account is good for now. I'm not saying that trust should be shown everywhere, but I get the reasoning why it's not shown because it will effect how you perceive that person (though sometimes knowing their 'true colours' can be helpful).
3098  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: July 10, 2018, 06:06:35 PM
I've gone for 2-2 on the Belgium/France game, but I'll be cheering on Belgium as them and Croatia are the only teams I can win money on this tournament now. No idea what's going to happen though, but think I've got to go for some bold picks if I've got any chance of getting into the top 5. Will use my joker on tomorrow's game but if I don't get a correct score from this game I'm probably out of the running.
3099  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup Pool Discussion Thread on: July 08, 2018, 08:16:46 AM
I'm officially out of competition, thanks to Mario Fernandes who scored goal and made result 2:2. Now I'm only 15th instead of being close to top 5. I started this competition quite well, but now my positions is getting worse and worse on every matchday.

I'm only 570 points behind fifth place and you're only one place behind me so we can still probably get in the top five if you get a couple of correct scores and utilise your joker well. I got absolutely robbed by that Russian equaliser in the 115th-minute. So close. It would have probably taken me into fourth place since I used my joker. Glad Croatia went through though. Them and Belgium are the only teams I can make money on this tournament now. Got a feeling it'll be a England vs France final now  Grin. Can't lose on a Belgium/Croatia one though.
3100  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: bryant.coleman ACCOUNT COMPRIMISED on: July 07, 2018, 08:39:58 PM
The user who is posting from this account now really doesn't seem like the original to me. The original bryant coleman used to spend the vast majority of his time in Politics & Society and now the account is just churning out generic two line shitposts.
