Mining profitability has decreased across the entire board and I suspect some ETH miners as well as people with cards that have less memory than the ETH DAG have started mining XMR. Unless price continues to go up, expect difficulty to increase or stay where it is. Mining has dropped down to about where it was before the mining craze in terms of profitability.

People boot rigs from 8GB+ USBs. Some lighter OSes may be able to run on 8-16 but unless you're installing more things than just the basics + the miners, there's really no real need for more than 64GB. Windows will need around 25-32GB but Linux can run on ~16.

A friend who ordered Bitmain Antminer L3+ just told me that his shipping date was 20th September 2017 but he neither received miners nor tracking number of shipment, on writing to Bitmain he got no response for 10 days in a row.
Any idea if Bitmain is still in business or going bankrupt?
I seriously doubt they're going bankrupt with all the miners they are selling every single day and the control they exert over Bitcoin and other chains. Bitmain does have support issues, though, I'd say wait a couple days and send more mail. Unfortunately they seem to be getting more crappy every day.

When people buy lots of hashpower price goes up. That's how Nicehash works, Ethereum's first major price spike is the most likely reason why profitability went up for a while then.

Well, I don't know where you live. I can advise you to check out this https://www.bitmainmasters.com/product-page/antminer-l3I don't know if you find this price fair or not. as far as shop goes. I saw some recomendations online and I was reffered there by a friend of mine, with whom we used to study in uni. He lives in NY, and I guess he found them ... have no idea how he found them. But so far he was happy with a product, haven't hear him complaining. Feel free to check the site. Site still looks like a scam and unless someone trusted can review this site and can confirm it works your best options are to buy from a forum member or buy direct by sniping a batch when it comes out. Most other options are scam sites promoted by people with one or two posts.

Limit 5 per customer. Good luck ordering 88. Price reduced to $400 + shipping. Added all 41 in stock on Amazon and they were all in cart without any problems. That's only for Newegg unless there's something else limiting how many you can buy. You can also ship to other addresses with more accounts, friends addresses/reshipping too.

Both are just fine for mining and the differences are marginal most of the time. After you get BIOS issues and all that out of the way, just pick whichever you like more. Windows is usually not free and although you can get licenses for under $5 nowadays, I still prefer Ubuntu for its simplicity and compatibility with pretty much all mining software.

For a more approximate exstimate, most of my S7s hit 70 decibels or more with a phone noise estimator app. That's pretty damn loud (enough to permeate through the basement to the living room without sound dampening). S9s are pretty similar in terms of fans so expect similar noise levels if you buy one. That being said, data centers are great for mining if you can't deal with the noise that miners make. Garage is also pretty good, but keep in mind a garage is extremely sensitive to temperature changes and it gets stuffy real quick in the summer. I only keep miners in the garage during winters, where temps drop below -10c a lot.

If you have a bit of a networking background you should be able to make your situation work. You can bridge your lan and wifi connections to provide connectivity to another device via the LAN port on your laptop. I actually do something similar at home to run an older computer I dont have a spare wifi card for.
I will try this on AntMiner S3 which now sells for under $100. 450Gh/s rate is not bad for this price and it can run out of one power outlet with any powersupply unit. Hopefully I can mine tons of alt coins...and make some $$ Thanks for all guys! Well, yer boned. The s1, s2, s3, s4, s5, s7, s9, t9, r4 from Bitmain -- all mine ONLY Bitcoin. Same with the Avalons from Canaan. Ja there are a very few alts that use the SHA256D algo but highly doubt they are worth much. In short - ANY Bitcoin miner can ONLY mine Bitcoin. Period. End of story. Peercoin is a coin you can mine and its profitability usually trails a little behind Bitcoin. With lower block difficulty and such it's a nice chain to solo mine on, but if you're looking for profit Bitcoin is where it's at. All the other SHA256D coins have unstable prices or are just plain not profitable like you said. I actually used to mine PPC back when it was slightly more profitable to mine on the chain about a year or so ago.

It's pretty nice for free electricity but due to being a 7000 series card it's going to pull a shit ton of electricity, make sure your PSU can handle it. They also run hot, if it gets to be too much an aftermarket cooler can help a whole lot. IIRC reference card blowers on the 7990s were pretty loud as well.

Kano is a pool I've been running on and off for a while and it's my favorite by far. I mostly run stickminers nowadays now that I've sold most of my S7s and such, but it's still fun to mine. Hopefully Sidehack delivers on his Bitfury gear so I can tweak some more ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Seems resistance at $4400 is the only immediate thing on the horizon before we hit $5000. We've been bound to have a breakout soon either way with all the resistance and dumping we've been having in the past few days and weeks. $4300 may be possible tonight if we get a quick buy up of coins. Keep HODLing, friends. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Reddit's sub Buildapcsales is a great place to find cheap GPUs and the people there are extremely knowledgeable about discounts on various websites and figure out ways to maximize cash back from multiple sites; for example today there were prebuilts with i5 7400s, RX 480 8GBs and 8GB DDR4 for $500. I bought one just to scrap the GPU and sold the rest of the parts for a nice amount. Communities are great places to start bargain hunting.

I don't like the relatively low reliability of the S9, and nothing BitFury based showed up for a long time, so I've BEEN waiting.
If the S9 was RELIABLE, I'd probably have been accumulating them for a while now.
Same after some teaser videos the chip news from bitfury has dried up most of there videos now are to promote their data centers . There are a few folks using BitFury chips to make miners being sold to the public - the Hotmine X5/X6 comes immediately to mind. I do with Sidehack would get to his BitFury project - at the rate he's going, the chips he has access to might be OUTDATED because he keeps puttering around with old OUTDATED stuff first. Unfortunately it's extremely difficult to get your hands on one of those miners and many have tried to no avail. Sidehack's going at his own speed and it'll probably be too late for the Bitfury chips to be profitable at all, but he always designed hardware for hobbyists anyways. Bitfury hardware is difficult to obtain and you'll probably pay a premium for it if you get anything from em.

More likely the BIOS or OS itself not liking what's happening. Dual-core processors can handle 8 just fine, Intel or AMD. AMD quad core Phenom processors can be found quite cheap, and for newer sockets the G3930 is around $40, and the new Athlon X4 950 has 4 (Excavator?) cores on a budget.

Is it that hard to move a thread? Below Bitcoin Forum in the bottom left of your screen there is an option to move your thread. Save the moderators some time, they've got more important things to do ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

6.9 spread so far. -2.4 to +4.5
is this one of the biggest spreads the contest has had?
The way things are going right now not surprised spread is pretty large. I guess EDA is just a "feature" of BCH now and it's just a cash cow for miners. At least it's delaying difficulty rises somewhat for us regular miners. Not sure about it and the effect it will have on prices. I now mine both coins as I don't want to get smacked by a huge price swing on either coin. One thing about bcc if you feel lucking you can solo mine it with a better chance of a block. I solo mine it 4 or 5 hours once a week. Any blocks yet? Seems like a nice chain to mine on if you've got some Compacs or something similar, better odds than BTC and if you hit the lottery you still get a nice reward. I'll probably reconfigure my USB farm to BCH when I get back home, I don't like the chain in any other way though :/

I believe some Chinese sellers are selling 750tis that are actually rebranded 9000/400 series cards with 1GB of GDDR5. Haven't heard of any more recent bootleg cards though, most are just similar cards with reflashed BIOSes or custom ones to reflect the fake card's name.

Difficulty will probably continue to be turbulent but I don't think it'll be negative this time. Great to see that the game is still up and running though!
