3101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Alert: chain fork caused by pre-0.8 clients dealing badly with large blocks on: March 12, 2013, 01:46:44 AM
Revert to 0.7 and all ok
sorry can you elaborate on this? reverting to 0.7 means the qt client has to be 0.7? I just upgraded to 0.8..

is that what you mean by it?
Only miners need to do so. General users need not to panic.

PS: Thread posted to Important Announcements.
3102  Bitcoin / Important Announcements / Alert: chain fork caused by pre-0.8 clients dealing badly with large blocks on: March 12, 2013, 01:44:51 AM
Hello everyone,

there is an emergency right now: the block chain has split between 0.7+earlier and 0.8 nodes. I'll explain the reasons in a minute, but this is what you need to know now:
  • After a discussion on #bitcoin-dev, it seems trying to get everyone on the old chain again is the least risky solution.
  • If you're a miner, please do not mine on 0.8 code. Stop, or switch back to 0.7. BTCGuild is switching to 0.7, so the old chain will get a majority hash rate soon.
  • If you're a merchant: please stop processing transactions until the chains converge.
  • If you're on 0.7 or older, the client will likely tell you that you need to upgrade. Do not follow this advise - the warning should go away as soon as the old chain catches up.
  • If you are not a merchant or a miner, don't worry.

I lol'ed. Anyone planning on to 'invest' in this please use your brains wisely. I've said this sentence a ton of times already and I'm rarely wrong.
3105  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BLOCKCHAIN.info Wallets in Danger!!! on: March 11, 2013, 01:29:08 PM
Use something like keepass or lastpass to keep each of your passwords secure and long. Never reuse passwords for God's sake. I personally use LastPass with 2FA and a random 31-word password, complete with both cases and numerals. (don't ask me how I memorized that!)
3106  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BLOCKCHAIN.info Wallets in Danger!!! on: March 11, 2013, 01:21:06 PM
Mate, you got really lucky. Remember to tip that guy if you can, as most hackers would just disappear with your coins. Please enable the 2-FA while you're at it too.
3107  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ban! on: March 11, 2013, 11:59:48 AM
Are you the one who posted fiverr links all over the place or something spammish like that?

His first post:
I got banned is there a ban appeal or somewhere that i can get unban? They said i PM spam, but I didn't I just send information about the trade to others through PM. I do it in mass amount on the same time, I think that's why they ban me.
Please help!
Thank you!
Oh, I missed that.  Embarrassed
Please PM theymos to ask why if you're unsure why you got banned.

3109  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why is it so hard to purchase bitcoins? on: March 11, 2013, 11:31:03 AM
Why not that Stephen guy?! Give me an address to send my coins to Stephen, and I'll pass them on to you. If you burn me though, I'll hunt you down...

lol errr willing to come to Afghanistan? but in all seriousness i realized i have to wait until im sync'd to be able to verify receipt of them Sad im at 59%
You can put the address on blockchain.info to see if the tx has gone through, no need to wait for the client to verify.
3110  Economy / Services / Re: John (Johnthedong)'s escrow service on: March 11, 2013, 11:13:02 AM
Hi John, do you happen to do money gram to BTC by any chance?
Nope, I'm not selling BTC atm.
3111  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAMMER: Cablepair (Tom) from BTCFPGA.com/bitcoinasic.net on: March 11, 2013, 09:31:11 AM
Theymos, what will you be doing with your piece of the pie? (I.e. the revenue from the bASIC-scam adverts on this forum.)

How much did he spend on advertising here anyway?

Seriously now...what sense does that make? If three months down the road you want to start a business and advertises yet thermos goes "fu, i don't trust you, you can't buy advertising here" what are you going to say?

Can't have it both ways simultaneously, this isn't quantum physics. Either open and open or else nazi and nazi.
Well, this exactly. How would theymos know in advance that bASIC would turn out to be a scam?
3112  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Hashkings Lending,Deposit 1.25% INSURED, ALL PPT ACCOUNTS CLOSING ON 8/19 on: March 11, 2013, 06:55:49 AM
So with coins worth about $40 per now I'm out over $1600 USD thanks to Hashking.  That's enough to motivate me to do something.

As mentioned before everybody is willing to chip in After-The-Fact if a settlement is reached.  We need to create a fund of people who are willing to pay up-front.  Anybody who does not contribute to the fund is not eligible for compensation from the settlement (if one is reached).  I have no legal background but I get to have fun with a deposition in a couple week (God I hate those things).  I'll be asking my med-mal lawyer if he know any attorneys in who might be willing to pursue the case.  But I'm located in CA and Hashking is located in the crook capitol of the US (Chicago area I believe).  If anybody in that vicinity knows an attorney who might be able to take up the case that would be better.

I think a reasonable number to ask if for 12.5 to 25% of the amount lost - in my case I lost about 40 BTC so I would have to chip in 5-10BTC.  We either need a mod or a very senior member to act as collections for fund.  I'm not volunteering myself as I'm too busy at the moment with the deposition, my business, babies, etc.
I can hold the collections for free if needed. Hope you guys get your money back from that crook.
3113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: We've got some big asks until 50 on: March 11, 2013, 05:11:26 AM
Some of that will disappear as we approach it.

True. I know that happens, but why? If you are aren't willing to sell then why put it up. Some sort of Bearish psychological stunt?
Yes, sort of. To give the impression of low prices so that they can snap up more.

3115  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Problem with Gui Miner, Hashrates drop considerably after a few minutes on: March 11, 2013, 03:36:43 AM
I've installed GUIMiner on 3 machines all pooling for deepbit, I'm using the latest GUIMiner, and using the tags -v -w 128 -f 60 when I mine,
but after being on for about 10 minutes the hashrate drops from about 45 MHash/s to about 600 kHash /s.  I have checked and disabled all of my
power saving settings (windows 7).  What am I doing wrong?
What GPU? Also, try CGMiner too as GUIMiner is outdated.
3116  Economy / Services / Re: John (Johnthedong)'s escrow service on: March 11, 2013, 03:05:43 AM
The service is humming along nicely - over 1k in BTC transacted in the last week alone!

Thanks everyone!

ON TOPIC UPDATE TO MY TF SCAM CASE:
I have no financial need to recover the 27 BTC TF scammed me for and I am willing to donate it to an acceptable charity.
I have publicly agreed to donate 100% of the scammed coins TF took from me to charity.
So far I've recovered
--0--
of the 27 coins TF scammed from me (he scammed them by pretending to competently develop my website, story in this thread and also the thread here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=146319.0)
I see there's no updates on his work products or reviews thereof so hopefully he's stopped doing it, but after making this kind of money that's unlikely.
How does the poll thing work again?
Also, I was briefly banned from posting to forum or sending messages for "SPAM". What are the forum rules on that? It's tough following the rules of my community if I don't know them. . .
It's probably because you were using a proxy like TOR and got blanket-banned. We get spambots via TOR a ton of times daily, and we IP ban them.
3118  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer: Intueri on: March 10, 2013, 04:22:45 PM
Will send btc right after money is received.

He's been active on the forum subsequent to my sending funds and PM'ing him payment instructions. He's ignored PM and email requests for payment.

Probably a stolen PP account. PP will rectify on my behalf, but I wanted to warn others.

Can you provide PM's or posts exchanged with him?

PM sent to him; will forward the tagging request if he fails to reply the PM or here.

3120  Local / 中文 (Chinese) / Re: New gambling game, translators needed!!! on: March 10, 2013, 03:45:24 PM
I can do Polish and French translations but you need to provide more info on who you are, what software will you be using, how do you want to plan it, what will be the agreement, how many shares will people get for work and how many shares will be issued in total, how is your decentralized stock market engine (why not try MPOE who has some trust unlike you) going to look like. Now all I see is chaotic thoughts, please be more concrete.
You might also want to post this on other boards.

This. I can do Chinese and Indonesian if needed too.
