3101  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I have Free energy. Is mining with Asic S9's worth for me? on: September 26, 2017, 01:05:46 AM
Sure, go ahead. Make sure you have proper ventilation, temperatures, and decent humidity levels. Make sure the circuit you are pulling power from can actually withstand the power you are running through it and that your power supplies aren't some cheap noname brand. HP and Server PSUs with breakout boards+Super Flower/EVGA PSUs are nice. Finally, make sure you aren't doing anything illegal. It'd be a shame to lose your investment to something dumb like that Smiley also note how much power you can get for free.
3102  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Anybody experience with this reseller of Antminers ? on: September 26, 2017, 01:03:14 AM
First rule of Bitcointalk spam is that if anything random ends up in your inbox, it has been spread by bots and therefore it's pretty much useless. Anything advertised like this should be ignored no matter what it is and you should red trust the user for spam.

The site is clearly fake and it's not worth your time. Buying from eBay or Amazon is better than this, and prices there are extremely high, much more than what some forum members charge for in stock items.
3103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: waste of time? on: September 24, 2017, 11:28:28 PM
Note the S9 and T9 as well as pretty much any modern miner in production are about as loud as having a vacuum cleaner on full blast constantly. GPUs are a quiet option, with long ROI (1yr for some latest gen GPUs at my electric cost, $.06/kw iirc). I'd just buy some coins and HODL.

Temps are going to be your enemy with laptop mining, and the fans on a MacBook aren't designed to be on 24/7 365. GPU and CPU mining work best on desktop units, and you're really just shortening the life of your laptop by mining with it. Best to use it for regular use cases.
3104  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Searching quiet miner on: September 24, 2017, 10:44:57 PM
The R4 is extremely unreliable and isn't really sold anymore, and the other best options are very old, including the S3 and Avalon 4.1s. Miners are just loud and if you can't handle it, just sell. They're designed to pack as much hashpower and power into as little space as possible with small heatsinks, which means the fans need to be strong and need static pressure to do that. philipma1957 uses ducting and some hole cut outs to make the miners quieter but they are still not silent.
3105  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 2GB Zcash hashrate on: September 23, 2017, 12:43:28 PM
Some models can do around 130-140sols/s last time I checked. Won't be incredibly profitable but it'll probably work, though ROI will be around a year with that sort of hashrate. Even a 1050ti would run better and a 1060 can be found for a decent price nowadays.
3106  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB Gridseeds or equivalent, anything cheap prices on: September 23, 2017, 12:39:40 PM
I've got an old-ass Rockminer Rbox 32gh that I'd be willing to sell as is. Can't test it as I sold the power adapter with a BFL Jalapeno a while back, but I can let it go for $30 and shipping from US. Hashed full speed last time I used it.
3107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: September 23, 2017, 11:46:01 AM
Mining is inherently risky in itself anyways, a reason why a lot of people with even cheap electricity just opt for straight up HODLing or small volume trading. Scalping is also why I try to buy one of each new Bitmain product each time one comes out- you can make quite a lot that way Smiley
3108  Economy / Speculation / Re: Amazon to accept Bitcoin as early as this October? on: September 23, 2017, 11:40:30 AM
This could be some well-needed bullish news if it does happen. I've been using Newegg as my primary source of purchasing products with Bitcoin recently, Amazon could be a change. Amazon's an innovator and with any luck it'll pass. I'm also wondering what payment processor they'll use, Bitpay or something custom?
3109  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin can go below $3k if support level at $3800 will be broken on: September 23, 2017, 11:38:27 AM
From the URL's short post:
Quote
Current crypto market is looking bearish but you can make some intraday short term trades for quick profit. Key level to watch today is $3810 and if it will break price can easily touch $3500 in short term and $3300 to $29xx level in mid term.

ETH might also drop to $265 and if it breaks it can go lower with respect to bitcoin price.

QTUM was pumped hard yesterday by some whales they easily sold all their bags on peak prices for easy profit. Many of you might got trapped on yesterday’s pump and dump scheme on QTUM. Don’t get fooled by such small pumps and dumps. If BTC goes down price of QTUM can go below $5.3 types.

OMG has turned bearish too. Expecting ETH to fall less than BTC when it does. Can open some long position in ETH-BTC at around 0.063-0.064 BTC.

There is some big buy orders on BTC at $3800, could jump a bit from there. If it doesn’t hold there, then $35xx should come easily.

That article is BS. I'm not saying that the writer is incorrect with his/her predictions, but the writer just made claim after claim saying that X will happen if Y happens etc etc without even attempting to explain why and how he/she ended up with that prediction.
This. Even worse than the bullshit TA people put out every day that is also proven wrong daily. I can't believe people actually follow the claims of paid writers that crank out misinformed shit every day, just pulling numbers out of their ass.
3110  Economy / Services / Re: Long-time writer/copywriter! Fast times, native English speaker and more! on: September 22, 2017, 02:25:28 PM
Just to let you know, the bitcoin catcher URLs seem to be down at the moment....
I published it about a year ago so it was always a possibility. Thanks for catching that, I'll edit the OP soon (haven't done so in a year).
3111  Economy / Services / Re: Long-time writer/copywriter! Fast times, native English speaker and more! on: September 22, 2017, 01:07:05 PM
I now accept PayPal and prices are being lowered. There's no better time to buy writing than now!
3112  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: September 22, 2017, 11:57:38 AM
There's auto tune on many batches so it may not be possible to tweak settings much or even OC (correct me if I'm wrong). Only a few early batch models don't have auto tune and they are overclockable, the rest aren't. Temps obviously differ because of different application and such. It's not always possible to get the same amount of thermal paste and such on the miner (check if all heat sinks are on and firmly attached).
3113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How loud are ASIC's? on: September 22, 2017, 10:12:28 AM
Any modern ASIC is comparable to a vacuum cleaner. You'd likely not want them in your living room or anywhere near you. Basement or garage is a good starting point. You can't change the fans or do much about the noise, either, nsince they need to be loud as Bitmain and other companies' miners rely on static pressure to push air through their very tight packed heatsinks. Lesser fans just can't do it.
3114  Economy / Services / Re: Long-time writer/copywriter! Fast times, native English speaker and more! on: September 22, 2017, 10:02:45 AM
do you accept ICO coins as payment ?
I'd prefer not, but we could work it out. Please PM me.
3115  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitmain Antminer U2 on: September 22, 2017, 12:15:20 AM
The miner runs off of CGminer- see Mining Software on the forum. Youll need to create a BAT file for running the device if you want the process to be convenient, and the rest of the instructions can be found in the readme for CGminer. YouTube is also a great resource, especially for older, simple USB miners. Also make sure your USB port supplies enough power for the miner for it to run at full speed.
3116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Do you trust whattomine.com? on: September 22, 2017, 12:13:06 AM
You can either pick the current most profitable coin based on what they say and sell asap, or you can mine one coin and HODL the coins, hoping price goes up. The second one is, of course, riskier, but the reward can also be quite nice. It's what I do as a small scale miner and it's made me quite a bit so far, especially with Litecoin.
3117  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I wanna get into mining. on: September 22, 2017, 12:02:29 AM
No, i wont be paying for power Smiley I have no chance to buy anything over 400$ I have also seen a S5 for 380$

Can't run a S5 without buying a power supply. I feel like it's a crazy amount to pay for it nowadays too.
Power supplies come pretty cheap, especially if you can snag a server PSU and a breakout board or solder on connectors yourself. Sometimes with rebate you can get decent bronze PSUs that can run an S5 for sub $30 as well. The S5 seems pretty expensive, you could get an S7 or A6 pretty easily for that price in the States. GPU mining could also be profitable with last gen GPUs.
3118  Economy / Services / Re: [Paying for reviews] - Review the PrivCoin.io mixer and earn some free coins! on: September 21, 2017, 11:44:22 PM
When the fees are low and you've got coins to be moved, there's nothing better than using a mixer to ensure you've got total security.

I got in when the mempool was very empty with a TX fee of around 120 satoshis. The website is clean and also accessible on Android devices, something I don't think others have mentioned yet. As soon as the TX confirmed I received a notification on my device saying the coins had been received into my wallet again- quite standard for any mixing service that's competent.

All coins arrived minus fees and TX fees, so nothing much to say here. One thing I'd like to point out is the look of the site on mobile- not horrible, but perhaps if you redesigned the UI on mobile devices the site would be more attractive.

With mixing taking a couple seconds and the TX taking a minute or two with ultra low fees, nothing much to say here. As I said earlier, it's a perfect time to mix with things all low right now, so it can't hurt to try with larger amounts.

It'd be interesting if you guys could implement a .onion site link like the mixer in my signature has- it grants further anonymity and that's good with mixing. Just a thought.
3119  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Quiet older miners? on: September 21, 2017, 11:34:07 PM
Avalon 4 at its default 1TH/s is similar noise wise to a common "white box" refrigerator. It is capable of going up to 1.3TH/s with a large increase in noise.

R4 (and to a lesser extent, S9) seems to have a lot of reliability issues. An underclocked S7 might be the best bet if you can find one cheap enough.
I think the R4 issues were fixed in later batches, only early batches had problems at least in my experience
It's still a pretty prominent issue nonetheless and according to many members here they stil have pretty bad reliability issues between batches. It's pretty hard to have a reliable miner when Bitmain uses the cheapest parts and tries to shove them together in an R4 chassis.
3120  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why people sell their miners on: September 20, 2017, 09:01:20 PM
For the average Joe noise is the biggest one. They buy an industrial miner geared for the most hashrate and power density in a small space and expect quiet performance, but instead they get a vacuum cleaner. Another one is difficulty making mining more and more difficult; a lot of people sell their miners right before they are completely obsolete to get a little money back.
