3121  Other / Off-topic / Re: Let's get Dropbox to accept Bitcoin! Please vote + retweet! (+ RAFFLE) on: August 24, 2013, 10:03:01 PM
why don't you guys mail your BTC addresses directly to the NSA? would safe them time to check dropbox' data.
I would stay away from any cloud based in america.

I agree but I'm still placing my 6 votes every 30 days because I want more businesses to accept bitcoin.
3122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I had a short conversation with a person who works at an ISP provider on: August 22, 2013, 10:25:25 PM
This person works at an ISP provider in South Africa, he told me that from morning to 8PM only traffic on port 80 is allowed, this is done to prevent torrenting. He told me that if someone wants to use any other port than port 80 he needs to call them and ask for permission to open X port up.

How will this affect Bitcoin?

Is this a very small ISP?
3123  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HELP~My Wallet was stolen, I lost 2.3102BTC!! on: August 22, 2013, 05:55:07 PM
There's nothing blockchain.info can do to help you get your coins back.

Actually Piuk is refunding those that were affected:

Jesse James has informed me of a problem with the rng used by blockchain.info javascript clients being poorly seeded when initialised in a background webworker task. In some browsers this could lead to duplicate R values being used when signing transactions (Firefox is likely to be particularly vulnerable). This issue effects the transaction signing code only, not the generation of private keys.

Patches have now been deployed, Please ensure you upgrade to the latest version of your Blockchain.info client.

Chrome extension - v2.85
Fixefox extension - v1.97
Mac client - v0.11

Users of the web interface should clear their browsers cache before next login.

Only a handful of addresses are known to be affected thus far. Likely if you have been affected by this problem your coins will have been taken already. All affected users will be refunded in full, please PM me or email help@blockchain.info.

SpaceX and others that were affected by this issue, contact him by email (the one at the end of the post I am quoting above) or PM.

3125  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How did you get in to bitcoin/altcoin mining? on: August 21, 2013, 10:18:10 PM
I had heard about Bitcoin from a few online articles and stories, and thought it was cool, but never really got into it. Months later, I read a Gizmodo article back in 2011 about how Bitcoin was dying because the price had dropped from $31 to like $2.

That article is from August 2011. Bitcoin price didn't drop to $2 until November that year and it was $7.5-8 when the article was published.
http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#rg60zczsg2011-08-06zeg2011-08-08ztgSzm1g10zm2g25zv

Nonetheless, the price drop was huge and many people who were new to bitcoin or who were into it only because of the "free money" they got from mining were disappointed.
3126  Other / Off-topic / Re: Script for "Hitler Discovers Butterfly Labs Monarch", In case it goes away on: August 19, 2013, 05:43:19 PM
and why does the video says Mtgox is a scam, what is wrong with them ?
USD withdrawal are delayed since many months.

But I don't think it's a scam.

And so are EUR through SEPA.
3127  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Flat Rate mining on: August 19, 2013, 12:27:10 PM
Also most leases have a clause in them about "not running a business" in your unit. The electric bill plus an inspection of your unit will quickly provide all the evidence the landlord needs to sue your ass (and/or confiscate your entire security deposit) for breach of the lease contract.

Most miners are mining as individuals not as "businesses".

* minimal fees of just 1% on net investment profits to cover site expenses.  (fees will be 5% from 7th July)

You should update this because the fee has grown to 10% now.

This is not exactly what I have been expecting after reading this:

I plan to make the accounts transparent too.  I'll itemize how much has been collected in commission, and how it has been spent.  Kind of like SDICE, but without the $10k/month sysadmin fees. If the 1% commission on investor profits is more than the site needs, I'll cut it.

I haven't followed all the posts in this thread but were the expenses of running the site listed anywhere?

EDIT: of course what I'm interested in is just-dice list of expenses
3129  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Did difficulty go up a couple of days ago? on: August 15, 2013, 09:07:05 AM
I'm surprised the LTC difficulty has stayed so steady (~900). I would have thought more Bitcoin-GPU-Abandoners would be making the switch lately.

I'd say some are mining other altcoins or have already sold their hardware within the last 2 months.
3130  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining with PCI Express 3.0 Videocards on PCI Express 2.0 motherboard on: August 14, 2013, 03:01:53 PM
There shouldn't be any problems arising from this because GPUs / motherboards are inter-compatible regardless of PCI-E version.

"Na gielde", czyli gdzie dokladnie?

Z tego co widze jest to kolejny prawie-nic-nie-wnoszacy klon.

Ale pospekulowac mozna.
3132  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 13, 2013, 08:32:19 PM
I haven't seen a check in my country since the early eighties.  I got a check for 20 USD from an US company in 1998, but it was only valid in the USA.  Travelling to Japan to cash out a check wouldn't be very attractive either, if they still have checks in Japan.  Are checks still used anywhere?

They are still very common in France, at least as of 2009 when I last lived there.

But in Poland for example (where I live now) checks are not used since mid-1990s.
3133  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 13, 2013, 05:09:12 PM
I got scared a bit when I read that people's bitcoin withdrawals were not going through so I decided to withdraw my remaining bitcoins from Mt.Gox, I did it in a few separate transactions in case withdrawing the whole lot would trigger an account blocking and a request for submitting documents I do not want to submit. Fortunately all ended well and I got my BTC.

MTgox having banking troubles is both scary and good considering that the workload is now being diversified to other exchanges, simply put most of the FUD is created by users. I also bet that most of the people complaining are probably the smaller withdraws (under 5,000 any currency).

It was mentioned somewhere earlier that five figure withdrawals are given priority.

Troche dziwnie się czyta te wypowiedzi Google Translate między dwoma użytkownikami, którzy polskiego nie znają.
3136  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: NEW ASIC 2 Giga hash / sec USB miner - anybody interested ? on: July 31, 2013, 10:37:48 PM
Even block erupters at .3GH/s can make an ROI if the price is low enough. 2GH/s is no exception, ROI is all about price per GH/s.

Yeah but more block erupters = more usb hubs = more power = more time spending on setting them up to work properly = more time spending making sure everything works, etc.

3137  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: NEW ASIC 10 Giga hash / sec Bitcoin miner - anybody interested ? on: July 31, 2013, 08:12:39 PM
If the difficulty:price ratio doesn't change for the worse dramatically and if you can deliver within EU by the end of August I'd pay $260 for a 10 GH/s ASIC with shipping included (EU). I'd probably order at least a few.
3138  Other / Meta / Re: Verify ID of marketplace sellers and groupbuy owners on: July 28, 2013, 01:05:55 PM
Yeah, I prefer holding BTC to holding ID as I would be somewhat under suspicion if someone's ID gets out somehow. Having ID is still quite pointless if the user in question jumps to Mexico or gets hit by a bus anyway.

Not to mention it is not that difficult to use someone else's ID, buy one or make one.
3139  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: July 27, 2013, 04:19:02 PM
Mining rigs in your bedroom.... how do you sleep?  lol

I did that throughout 2011 and 2012 with 2-3 rigs in my bedroom. I actually got used to the heat and the noise. In winter I had partially opened windows and the heating was turned off (unless I had Internet connection problems) but in summer it was pretty tough.

There's something wrong with the voting results because I can clearly remember 3 days ago there were 7 votes for "Female, 80+".
