Isn't stability what we want for Bitcoin?

Now it's pretty easy to price things in BTC and the price won't change before a sale is completed.

It seems that's pretty good for merchants.
No, we don't want this stability. Stability=bitcoin economy is not growing

So this is the ending game of bitcoin? No more expansion?  Undecided
3123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The big RESET - will bitcoin be ready ? on: June 01, 2012, 05:18:46 PM
People have been predicting this kind of thing for a long time.  Society will route around problems.  Things might get turbulent, but it's unlikely to get anywhere nears as bad as "the end of finance" or "the end of the world".  IOW, chill the fuck out.

Having full nodes easy to setup and run is a good idea, because it would means more people running them

3128  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Original Bitcoin client is painfully slow on: May 30, 2012, 04:49:30 PM
C'mon guys, the problem is not the download speed

The problem is verifying the blocks. Check how much your hard disk is working, it's checking everything and it is the bottleneck.

On a SSD it would be much more faster
3129  Other / Off-topic / Re: P2P limits from ISP on: May 30, 2012, 04:37:22 PM
It's not a downloading limit

You have no p2p limit, stay calm

It takes age to get the blockchain cause it verify each block. Check the hard drive usage, it will be using the hard disk like hell while getting the blockchain. The limit is the hard disk speed, not the internet connection. With a SSD it would be much more faster. If you setup a RAM disk it would be muuuuch faster

3135  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Opting out of Social Security on: May 29, 2012, 12:17:16 PM
Yeah nice stop paying so when something bad happens to you you will be fucked. Or maybe you will do like that father who went in a hospital with a pistol to have help for his son who required medical assistance (but since they were poor and could not pay the insurance, no help for you, you poor, you die)

/facepalm
3136  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Other cryptocurrencies / alternatives to Bitcoin: why? on: May 28, 2012, 02:41:38 PM
BitCoin does not offer all the things that some people want. It's not anonymous. It's traceable by design. It's online. It requires authentications, which takes a while.

There's lots of different properties one can want in a currency that BitCoin doesn't provide, and it's probably impossible to make a currency that matches EVERY wish EVERY person on earth has. States try that with fiat currencies and fail.
Yes but the alternative cryptocurrencies are like clones of bitcoin with another name. So they share all the problems of bitcoin and fix nothing

Then there is scamcoin, also know as microscam, wich is just a scam.

It's my impression that these alternatives were only introduced by people who would like to be early adopters themselves, hoping to see their stack of virtual coins (which are cheap or free to obtain in the early stages) booming just like BTC. Or am I mistaken?
No, you are right.

Isn't the satoshi client portable? I mean, if you put the client and the blockchain on the usb drive it should work without problems. You have to put in the parameters to tell it to use the blockchain on the usb drive but except that it should work...
