3141  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: July 27, 2013, 03:11:53 AM
Is Bob Smith really his name ?! The only thing that would be a bigger red flag is if he signed his name John Doe...
Yes it really is... Not sure what else I can do to prove that?
John
I guess I can post this:

Thanks for the clarification, and I suppose I should sheepishly apologize for throwing up the red flag.

Good luck with your venture. Would love to have the opportunity to own one of your 400gH/s monsters once they are realized.
3142  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining bitcoin with 1st gen hw doesnt seem to make sense at all by next year on: July 26, 2013, 07:15:34 PM
Not sure about the topic, but it seems that AM hardware purchases have an ROI after ~1 year, including difficulty increases. Avalon batch 1 adopters have definitely ROI'd and I imagine early batch 2 owners are breaking even about now.

How is this any different, really, than the debate from "CPU's are dead" to "GPU's are dead" and now "First gen ASIC's are dead" ?

Many GPU's have already paid for themselves several times over and are still turning a profit even after factoring electrical costs.

I don't know about you, but with the relatively negligible electrical costs with running my AM gear, I fully expect to still be running gen 1 hardware in 2014, in addition to whatever gen 2 hardware I've added to my farm.

3143  Other / Off-topic / Re: BitForce SC - Pre Order List on: July 26, 2013, 07:03:31 PM
All sales are final unless we fail to perform.  That includes both performance and shipping targets.  60 days past target and we'll happily refund your purchase.  If you would really like a refund anyway, just ask and we'll probably be able to take care of you.  Nonetheless, we reserve the right to handle it on a case by case basis.

So I guess you reserved the right to not handle refunds anymore, huh ? Wink

3145  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) CLOSED AND COMPLETED! on: July 26, 2013, 05:09:11 AM
I'd definitely be down for an order of another 20 through the group-buy. Will be looking forward to ordering another 50 additionally through FC @ 0.1 if/when this becomes official.

EDIT:  So, are we actually mining for blocks right now, or are my hashing going to the deep abyss?

AFAIK, mining remains unaffected. It's just the web access that has outages.

Would greatly appreciate the Doctor chiming in to give us an official answer.
3147  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ButterflyLabs Bullshits Awards! Post and vote ! on: July 26, 2013, 12:32:23 AM
I'm not saying it's a Ponzi scheme, but it is curious how there are certain characteristics that are similar. Specifically, how Ponzi's fail to honor commitments (in this case, refunds) just prior to their downfall.

From Wikipedia...

Since the scheme requires a continual stream of investments to fund higher returns, once investment slows down, the scheme collapses as the promoter starts having problems paying the promised returns (the higher the returns, the greater the risk of the Ponzi scheme collapsing). Such liquidity crises often trigger panics, as more people start asking for their money, similar to a bank run.

Email office@butterflylabs.com and we will happily refund your order at any time.

vs

The statement was that we did not refund preorders.  We did. We are no longer taking pre-orders and we are not refunding orders that are currently in the queue, that's correct.

It was stated multiple times that all sales are final when you ordered.  What part of that were you unable to understand?  We can't be responsible for your lack of reading comprehension or ability to understand simple English sentences.  Sorry for your reading disability, perhaps next time you should get someone to explain what terms and conditions mean to you before placing and order.  Now put on your big boy pants and accept responsibility for your actions instead of whining to me why you are unable to function in normal society and you should be a special case.

The insults add a nice tangy zip and zest to the shit-sandwich customers have been forced to eat since October 2012.

Having a refund forced on me in the past, when customers desiring refunds now are incapable of receiving one is some delicious irony.

Again, as all the cool kids on the official BFL forums suggest, you might wish to "Pull a Xian" in an attempt to have your orders refunded.

My posting history should serve as a roadmap. Don't forget to add "a bag of dicks" for extra flavor somewhere in your request for a refund.
3148  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Eruptor Blades on: July 25, 2013, 07:58:47 PM
Should I buy a new POS for this blade?

Should look more like this  Undecided

Seems you have a faulty unit Sad

EDIT: Having said that, you really should check the lane voltage with a multimeter before escalating with friedcat.
3149  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Eruptor Blades on: July 25, 2013, 07:45:28 PM
Turning the blade clock to "high" makes the chips all to XXXXXXXXXX....
Turning them to low makes them all to OOOOOOOOOOO

Does it properly hash @ 10GH/s in low speed ? If so, it means all the lane voltages are tuned too low to support High clock speed, which explains the XX's across the board.
3150  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: July 25, 2013, 07:20:44 PM
I just recently upgraded my miner purchase from BFL. I don't mind BFL at the moment because they are at least sustaining decent pr with their shipping blog.

I'm just happy their still moving forward, at an unprepared snails pace but a pace none the less.

 You are obviously new here...
3151  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs shipping 300 units a day on: July 25, 2013, 12:39:45 PM
too bad bill gates didn't get on forums back when windows crashed every day.  windows 95 days. that's about the only thing that could top this.
There is actually not much to see here, a bunch of the same people, pretty much all of which have been on my ignore list since April, trolling each other. They inhabit every BFL thread. I am trying to keep it on course a little bit publishing BFL shipping updates when I notice them.
Well, you won't be too busy then, will you  Cheesy

It's telling and somewhat amusing, that so many people involved with America's Favorite Bitcoin Company lack any sense of irony or meta-awareness.
3152  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: July 25, 2013, 01:56:35 AM
unconfirmed news:
The USB stick miner will be charged at 0.6BTC.
Also,if you bought a stick before, you can buy a new one at 0.1BTC.

I am absolutely turgid at the thought of being able to buy 70 of these guys @ 0.1BTC each... Oh please let it be so.
3153  Other / Meta / Re: Is doxxing private personas acceptable on these forums ? on: July 24, 2013, 09:10:31 PM
Aaaand then he's back a minute later, so?  Huh Bans are as unwieldy as they are ineffective as a punitive measure.

I recognize a game of cat-and-mouse develops. Bans/Shadowbans work well on Reddit with it's active moderators, is all I'm trying to say.

I agree it is not a simple technical issue to resolve, but in the case of these forums, the alt would have to get out of newbie jail (or spam doxx in the newbie sub), and expend some effort to be able to post in other areas.

Ultimately, this debate falls into the sphere of ethics now, and is probably beyond the scope of this thread.

Point is, given the choice of being active in a community that supports doxxing vs one that doesn't, I think most would gravitate to one that takes safety of it's users into consideration.
3154  Other / Meta / Re: Is doxxing private personas acceptable on these forums ? on: July 24, 2013, 08:55:10 PM
How exactly is a ban going to help?

By sending a message that doxxing is not acceptable behavior, will have the offending posts deleted, and the posters' account banned.
3155  Other / Meta / Re: Is doxxing private personas acceptable on these forums ? on: July 24, 2013, 08:49:00 PM
Once information has been posted, it cannot be revoked. There's not much point in asking moderators to waste their time on trying the impossible. That would just push users to other services that keep the information up.

I would humbly suggest that management take a cue from Reddit's "ban for doxxing" policies.

While I understand that once information has been posted it's near impossible to have it removed from all archives, the larger issue is management allowing such a culture to exist (where doxxing is allowed), and make no effort to be good shepherds of their community by trying to look after their flock.

"Just because someone posts dox doesn't mean it should stay up" is the argument I'm trying to make.

Thought Exercise: If all of the moderators personal information were to be posted, would that be acceptable or would that be deleted ?
3156  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs shipping 300 units a day on: July 24, 2013, 08:40:53 PM
I don't think he is a liar, I just think he is wrong. All the time.

Holy semantics, Batman ! That's quite the noodle-baker.
3157  Other / Meta / Re: Is doxxing private personas acceptable on these forums ? on: July 24, 2013, 06:05:37 PM
Hooray search function!  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=47626.0

I believe doxxing is allowed, never seen it written that it wasn't.  Plus that old post from theymos shows that he doesn't care about removing the info.

Oof. Very dangerous attitude to have IMO.

I'm not sure that I can be a part of any community that condones doxxing if this is an official management stance Sad

Perhaps it's time I find another hobby/community.
3158  Other / Meta / Re: Is doxxing private personas acceptable on these forums ? on: July 24, 2013, 05:15:36 PM
Your attempt to protect scammers everyone has been noted and added to your personal file.

FTFY.
3159  Other / Meta / Is doxxing private personas acceptable on these forums ? on: July 24, 2013, 05:05:31 PM
More directed towards management of this site. As the subject asks, is it acceptable behavior on these forums to allow doxxing of private identities ? Specifically, people who have not made their first and last name or other identifying information available in a public posting.

I would even go further stating that posting of information on publicly known personas should be verboten, but the more concerning question is one of outing private identities as acceptable behavior.
3160  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: A new ASIC miner announcement on: July 24, 2013, 02:24:43 PM
Besides, from what I have seen the Bitcoin Foundation plans to do something about the whole ASIC craze, no one knows for sure what they're going to do although from what I understood they say the current proof of work concept used to reward miners will change (they gave no details).
