Well sure, what are the merits of longer vs. shorter times. Why not 10 second or 5 second or 1 second blocks? What's the advantage of longer block times?
Simple more confirmations per block no double spend one i can see but long time waiting for trasaction is bad... Litecoin is in speed bad too compare to others with different approach. Quark,Dogecoin, even POS coins like BC is faster in future that will mater. +1 for Block 10min is you are saving disc space... in same time Doge will need 10x more space for blocks. |

I think the real reason the Alt's are losing value is because they are all still in the massive early inflationary period.
Think about this right;
If you have an Alt that mines at 1000 units per day;
Day 1 : 1000 units
Day 2 : 2000 units (100% inflation)
Day 3 : 3000 units (50% inflation)
Day 4 : 4000 units (33% inflation)
Day 5 : 5000 units (20% inflation)
It takes months or even years before the weekly, monthly or annual inflation rate drops to an unnoticeable level, helped along by the halving effect, if that coin even has that feature in it's code.
Most of the Alts on the market are less than a year old, that means they are still massively inflating compared BitCoin which has been running for over 5 years now.
Simple mathematics tells you that the value of any given ALT is going to drop until it ceases to inflate relative to BitCoin. It's not that people don't want the ALTS, or that they are turning away from them, it's just a simple case of supply and demand in a massively inflationary market.
The only way any ALT could possibly beat the early inflation is if it has mass adoption, but that's very unlikely.
If we spool time forward 5 years or so, most if not all of the current ALT's, especially those which are technologically sound, will cease to inflate, have found a group of followers and become a viable platform for being one of many global decentralised autonomous corporations.
TL;DR : Brand new ALTS inflate very fast, wait for them to bottom out before buying them.
P.S ... ZeitCoin seems to have an interesting idea to combat early hyper-inflation, it halves each week for the first 6 weeks before stabilising at a much lower level of production from there on out.

Compared to MintCoin, will be 100% PoS better? For a 100% PoS coin, what does it work without minting? I thought every transaction needs to be "hashed" into the blockchain extension resulting from a newly generated block. Like with POW you don't need many hash power to keep coin alive same with minitng i am mintig all time when i can, i put my mint mashiche to regular 24/7 miner ... I think few people did the same. When i look on network there should be about 2000+ walets miniting all time now. |

You cant anymore. Although you can buy some from exchange, place it in your wallet, and let the Proof of Stake do the magic  PoS doesn't work with the wallet close? It works once you open wallet network will see you stack and untouched balance in end of year you will receive 1%. But when you have opened wallet you have chance to receive part of this stack earlier plus mined block fees. the reason why it's so cheap is because there's a bunch of miner's still with lot's need some quick $ were gonna hit cryptsy by tmrw i think that should be good!
true some people who are not intesed in BC they just give away their coins some mayby realy need cash all becouse of it. Note that obly 0.005BC is needed daily to eat whole NEW BC mined by POS system... I just buy some and wait for next weeks patience is key + smal investments in so cheap coins |

It's a scam. The developers create a coin without the governments consent. Do a press release stating you will give "some" of the coins to the citizens (only the ones with internet with no explanation of how or why). Traders pump it and developers dump the 50% premine.

what people aren't understanding about -N is you'll make coins slower, using more electricity.
For this coin to be worth the effort they will need to raise drastically in price to be worth mining.

Supply and demand. If this coin is harder for everyone to mine than it will cause the price to be higher as a result. Look at alt coins that have a cap in billions. Then look at coins that have a cap of millions. What do you notice? you not aware that doge is actually more profitable to mine than litecoin? that one coin alone has proven that amount of coins doesn't matter, its the majority that makes it valuable and using -n will tank this coin. if any changes are to be made, it should be the IPO holders that have the say, not some stupid 2hr poll on a forum with a 10000000 to 1 troll ratio. I've got personal investment, why should some random person get to vote when they likely aren't even going to mine it? the general consensus with the IPO holders was "we dont want -n" If it's not - n, at the moment this coin are extracting by intelligent mine pool from China. I see lots of +1s for Darkcoin, and while I do believe it has potential, personally I would hold out and invest in Zerocoin when it comes out in May. Zerocoin could certainly rival BTC - it's had a buzz around it for practically a year now and is currently being developed by a team at MIT.

Best option for fair share is give coins to accounts with min +20 activity on bitcointalk....
There won't be fake addresses, random volunteers can spot fake account and delete scam accounts who only spam the same till ban.
