3181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin core updated to 0.9.1 on: April 09, 2014, 10:26:26 AM
So if someone DIDN'T click on a bitcoin link using 0.9.0 they are safe right?
3182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We explained what is bitcoin and is it a ponzi, what to do next? on: April 09, 2014, 10:11:47 AM
I agree.

Most people I talk to find it hard to believe that Bitcoin has any value at all.
So yeah I too vote for explaining this subject Smiley
3183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin Andresen Steps Down as Bitcoin’s Lead Developer on: April 08, 2014, 01:57:27 PM
He is essentially being "promoted" to Chief Scientist to work on Bitcoin's mid to long term challenges, namely transaction pruning.

Exactly. This move actually strengthens Bitcoin in my view. We need someone with Gavin's experience focused more on macro thinking than micro details.

My favorite analogy for the task of core developers pushing Bitcoin code changes is it's like working on a 747 going hundreds of miles per hour. Make too big a mistake and the whole thing could crash and burn (or at least scare the hell out of the passengers). When Bitcoin was small it really needed hands on production to allow things to take off. Satoshi, Gavin and the core devs did a great job of that. Aside from some minor bumps the project has been a great success, claiming a multi-billion dollar market cap with all signs pointing to major investment funds lining up.

The stakes are higher for real world Bitcoin implementation issues now. There is no turning back and there is more pressure to get things right the first time. A better title for this post might be: Gavin Andresen Switches Focus from Lead Developer.

At the same time, the community can be introduced more publicly to Wladimir van der Laan.

Think of it like a brilliant family doctor you've been going to for years. He solved your problems easily and you trusted him completely. One day you walk in to see a fresh new face. Your doctor explains this is a hand picked hot shot out of med school taking over while the doctor transitions away from direct patient activity, to spend time reviewing medical journals, finding cures for cancer, that sort of thing. He makes it clear he's still available should he personally be needed, and you might seem him time to time. He leaves you and the new doctor with his phone number. This situation IMO is a win for everyone involved.

You are right.
Title changed Wink

3184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China Ban Bitcoin my a$$..... on: April 08, 2014, 01:52:02 PM
I saw this yesterday, I think its awesome.

You can bet if they are successful on the UnionPay/Discover platform others will follow...

Here is a survey I put together for sentiment about the China/IRS stuff coming down on the 14th:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/3JCCVP7

Up to 283 responses, you can see the current results after you submit, will share all the data after it closes on the 13th Wink

I voted on your survey for 600-700$
Right now I belong to the small majority but something tells me things will change before the 14th.

The experiment is coming to an end.

Why so?
It's an open source project.
3187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin Andresen Steps Down as Bitcoin’s Lead Developer on: April 08, 2014, 12:25:53 PM
He lost faith in Bitcoin and realized it's broken beyond repair

Or maybe he has enough coins that he doesn't need to bother anymore Wink

or both.

It can't be both because if he lost faith he would have dumped all his coins....

Otherwise it is orphaned?

3194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please put idiot proofing in all wallet software. on: April 07, 2014, 05:43:53 PM
Please define "idiot proof"
It's all part of the ease of use, and to protect newbies from doing something wrong. Like warning about importing private keys and advising to sweep them if they could ever be compromised. Not allowing a full address to be copy/pasted in one shot would be useful so someone doesn't use a wrong address in the clipboard. Anything to make key handling safer.

Not allowing copy/paste of a full address would be a hassle to non idiots IMO.

However, if you have other suggestions I am willing to help when it comes to the windows platform.
I have thought about creating a software that will encrypt the BTC directory but since I am a new member here nobody will use it so why waste my time?

"If you make something idiot proof, someone will just make a better idiot."
You are saying "If you make everything unsafe, everyone will be safer." I'll bet you don't ever complain when someone does something foolishly that harms you, because that would imply that you are an idiot for being careless.

He is saying that it doesn't matter how much idiot proof something is, there will just be people who are too stupid to comprehend.
3195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Making the world a safer place with bitcoin on: April 07, 2014, 05:29:47 PM
Here is why this wont work:

There are married men who like to visit strip clubs.
Their wife knows where they spend their BTC on but not their cash which is more or less untraceable unless marked by the police.

I do not know what the majority of married men VS single visiting these clubs is, but keeping a low profile is an issue here.

3197  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 47% of Americans want to make purchasing goods and services w/ Bitcoins illegal on: April 07, 2014, 05:12:37 PM
So this goes to show that 47% of Americans are:

1) Not well educated
2) Not aware of technological improvements
3) Not willing to break free or afraid to
4) Sheep
5) Stupid

If you are reading this then I am guessing you belong to the good 53% of Americans - land of the FREE!
