3181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Whole coiner status in 10+ years on: July 12, 2022, 10:07:35 AM
For me I imagine a world where someone wants to start a project and as a whole coiner, you walk in and have the ability to angel invest on a dime, or by simply  being in the room you are collateral for innovation.

Many whole coiners are investors for money, not for the technology. Many whole coiners were in the right place at the right time and had the trust to not sell in the previous bull runs.
And innovation needs collateral in money. It needs investment for the working hours and for the hardware (and so on) used. A proper whole coiner will not give any of his coins under others' custody, because he knows the risks. And will not sell either.

I believe that there is a big possibility you could buy a very good house even in the most expensive nations and cities for one bitcoin in the future. Like for example where the houses are expenses now? Toronto, New York, London, Paris? Those type of places? Well for 1 bitcoin, you would be able to get 1000+ square feet apartment/loft whatever there with like 3 rooms or maybe 2 big ones.

This is where it is headed, at one point it was possible to get like some "bad" houses for 1 bitcoin in places like Miami, and even right now it is possible to buy some houses in some nations, but not in leading nations. So in 10 years, it will get there for sure.

Both bitcoin and real estate prices seem to keep growing. While I don't rule out bitcoin get to the point you are dreaming for, it may not happen during our lifetime. You may want to target something more tangible...
3182  Economy / Economics / Re: China crushes mass protest by bank depositors demanding their life savings back on: July 12, 2022, 09:04:31 AM
Don't store your life savings in one bank, split it between multiple banks or if you are daring, between multiple banks, and multiple crypto wallets.

Multiple banks, multiple wallets, multiple types of wealth, ... indeed this is the best option.

[PS. protests don't solve anything in China. Or in the US for that matter. They actually do not solve anything in other countries as well, unless the ruling regime is either sympathetic to them or too weak to oppose them.]

It always depend on the size. If the size of protests gets greater than a threshold (or something like that), the police and army will join to protests (since they have the same problems and their families may be protesting. And then the government, no matter how powerful it is, will go down. (Of course, it doesn't mean that the new regime will be any better.)
3183  Economy / Economics / Re: "Surprisingly, Tail Emission Is Not Inflationary" -- A post by Peter Todd on: July 12, 2022, 07:31:59 AM
My point was that it's hard to get tail emission right.

You can't get tail emission right. A good TE value in a certain market conditions is an awful TE in different market conditions. The success of tail emission depends entirely on whether the number of miners stay almost-constant thoughout the lifetime on the coin. Just like in economics, there is a break-even point in the number of miners where more miners joining the network will not see an increased reward - as the price (which is dependent on users buying and selling) works independently from miners.

By supplying Tail Emission you constrain the network to a certain number of miners, and since there is no noticeable increase in hashrate, there is no corresponding increase in coin scarcity either, hence no price increase - miners will have to support themselves on a block reward (i.e. TE value) which has a fixed USD value forever.

I will get to Monero's case. There, iirc, there's "no" block size/limit. That might affect the equation - might make it different than what we have for Bitcoin, where miners can force (by plugging out vast quantities of hashrate now and then) a cluttered mempool and bigger block rewards (I know that they have to add that hashrate back before the difficulty change/detection, I know that's overly simplified and may be wrong, but it feels possible that Bitcoin miners would do dirty tricks for more money if need be).

So you're right, tail emission size may depend on more variables than we can now think of. I don't know if it's impossible to get it right ("never say never", you know), still, close to that indeed.

Has anyone tried to reach out to @NeuroticFish

Posting my name usually does the job Wink
I've removed him, for now, from my list. If I get to properly read that topic about him and properly check the info, I will consider ~, but not right now.

if the answers are bullshit then maybe an issue.

The thing is that when they were asked about the errors.. I found the answer.. let's say unprofessional.
Maybe I was too harsh, but imho it has helped them get the point and fix their problem.

I personally work with Crypto Cloaks and print/ship as part of their team and I have shipped out close to 1500 prints that I myself have printed for them.

This is more reassuring than anything they can say!

3187  Economy / Economics / Re: "Surprisingly, Tail Emission Is Not Inflationary" -- A post by Peter Todd on: July 11, 2022, 09:39:04 AM
If there is only one way to get it right, then it would be tail emission from launch.
In gmaxwell's words, that's a pretty strong attractor in the design space, with nothing arbitrary about it.

It's the most fair possible coin distribution.
Which is exactly why many (most?) people don't like it, because they want to have an edge over later adopters.

Any such change done at a later point can disappoint greatly the early birds. I can see why any later such change can be seen as bad. And I think that you know that such a change done now in bitcoin can easily trigger a fork. Yes, it's all about money/investment, much more than we'd like to admit. The use-as-a-coin is somewhat secondary.

Whether tail emission is fairer or not compared with what Bitcoin has is highly debatable imho. I expect the two different models come with completely different models for price evolution. So imho, in a way or another, both are fair.

For now Monero seems to have its tail emission right, but I don't know the details well enough, hence I may be wrong. And they've had this from start too.
3188  Economy / Economics / Re: "Surprisingly, Tail Emission Is Not Inflationary" -- A post by Peter Todd on: July 11, 2022, 09:23:03 AM
So you have a problem with Dogecoin's yearly inflation rate, but not with its wealth concentration?

It was an example based on a coin I knew. Right now I don't care at all neither about Dogecoin's tail emission, nor its wealth concentration.
My point was that it's hard to get tail emission right.
3189  Economy / Services / Re: 3D Printing Service! You send us a file and we'll 3D print it for you! on: July 11, 2022, 09:16:33 AM
and yes those are all real countries hahaha.

Those would be real countries if your punctuation and spelling would be correct. But it's not.
With such mistakes and carelessness I would be afraid to use your services: I don't know where would you actually send the printed item.
3190  Economy / Economics / Re: "Surprisingly, Tail Emission Is Not Inflationary" -- A post by Peter Todd on: July 11, 2022, 09:09:54 AM
nobody likes their supply converging towards infinity

Your statement can be rephrased as "nobody likes their share of the pie to be decreased".

At first sight, that's seems obvious.

But on closer inspection, it's not so obvious.

For the pie to be useful, you want as many people as possible to have some share.
And you want this pie to be more attractive to people than some other pie.

So you don't want the pie ownership to be too concentrated. Maybe, if you believe in fairness,
you want future generations to have some share of the pie as well.

That's why you want the supply to keep growing. Preferably not by too much though. Just a percent or two per year.
That makes you not lose too much of your share while allowing many more people their fair share....

I've thought the same in the rather early days of Dogecoin: tail emission gives everybody the chance get hands of the coin, tail emission makes it much more suitable for being an actual currency since in every currency money lost do happen.
However, in those days Dogecoin price went down and no recovery seemed to be at the horizon (I never expected the 2021 comeback, but I still don't know if it was good or just manipulation).
Now I consider Dogecoin tail emission overly big.

Is tail emission good? Maybe, but it's overly difficult to get it right. Bitcoin is better as investment and only time will tell if its lack of tail emission is a real problem or not. For now we're okay and in the near future the existence of 8 digits after the decimal point can do the job. Then we (or actually one of the next generations) will see...
3191  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I need your suggestions, Project:Coin Crypto Price on: July 11, 2022, 09:01:04 AM
^^ don't make a separate post for every reply you give.

I don't know where you get data from, or which API are you using, but you definitely need to change that.
First, the charts on the coin page, they are completely useless and non-functional.
I looked at the "exchanges" tab for Ethereum and I saw some wrong results for the trading volume. some of those reporting fake volumes are on your top 1 page. even on Coingecko, it is not such a result.

The answer he gave shows that OP doesn't actually care to fix issues, he just made a page and wants people go there, no matter how crappy/wrong the results are.
The users will sooner or later find that out and go for the better sources of information. And if he doesn't care, should I?
3192  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: July 11, 2022, 08:53:26 AM
It turns out that a huge number of people (or rather money) were bet on Verstappen's victory ... and they all lost  Grin On the one hand, I sympathize with their losses

It's RedBull's home track. It's the track he's supposed to know best. Of course he has the highest chance to win. And about the odds, one must be thinking "I better win on low odds than lose on high odds", right?
But Ferrari cars were very good, Leclerc was lucky to have no reliability issues, Checo was knocked out by Russell so he couldn't help.. and this time Ferrari's strategy on Leclerc was good.

Checo abandoning kinda killed the mood for me, I was hoping for a great recovery race...
On the other hand Haas cars had a great race, Ocon too, .. even Lando and Ricci have scored  Wink so overall nice results.
I felt sorry for Sainz.
3193  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining Farm Europe on: July 11, 2022, 07:52:01 AM
So, 0.14 is always good. I'm a citizen of Europe, I can open easily a startup in Finland.

If you're a citizen of Europe and you read the news you should know that Europe is getting in trouble with all the forms of energy.
I would not be surprised if shortages and even higher prices will be in place in the next winter. Right now in many European countries the governments subsidize the prices for end users (but not for businesses!!) so you should really-really do very good your homework before investing big money into hardware.
3194  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The List of Popular and free blockchain bitcoin observers. on: July 11, 2022, 07:37:30 AM

While you really tried to post something useful, the way of presenting the information needs to improve greatly.
For now I just scroll between huge images and a list of actual links (the short version) is missing.
Even more, the first link tranthidung has posted is easier to read and much bigger.

While the links are not really from block explorers and might be seen somewhat off-topic, I do find the list useful (although I knew most of those). Good job!

I really miss the live price indicator on a chrome tab  Embarrassed

If you want to see the price on the tab header and its data and memory usage is not a problem, you can do what I do: keep one tab open with
https://bitcoinwisdom.io/markets/bitstamp/btcusd
or https://bitcoinwisdom.io/markets/bitfinex/btcusd

Of course, I don't mind if you also make a proper preev-like website  Wink
3196  Economy / Services / Re: An Interesting Project Need New Developers Great Incentive Bigger than Bitcoin on: July 11, 2022, 07:11:48 AM
The text on his profile that claims he is Satoshi Nakamoto is already dubious, let him prove first that he is the real Satoshi Nakamoto so we can shower him with merits and take his trust rating to the highest and support whatever offer or project he is offering,

I've seen a lot of Satoshi Nakamoto (wannabes) in the past years and I was surprised to see some getting followers / adepts for whatever fantasies / lies preached and no actual proof.
You may know the overly long story of CSW, his fantasies, lies, claims and his (failed) altcoin.

I don't know why he needs 32 developers the real Nakamoto only works with few developers, there will be a big conflict managing these 32 developers because each one of them has their own concept and perception of ideas.

If he can get fools work for him for free, it doesn't matter how many and what the project is, why not? With some luck he can monetize that, if he cannot... he didn't lose anything..
3197  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Review] Bitcoin Back Debit Card by Fold on: July 11, 2022, 07:06:42 AM
I could see how calling it a bitcoin back card could be confusing. I guess its more of a cashback card dedicated to purchasing bitcoin with your rewards.

Yes, this is it.
Even the name in the web page you've linked tells Bitcoin rewards prepaid card. That can be a little confusing if one doesn't read it carefully, but it's correct. (So I guess that it was only your title that was the misleading one.)
The simplest name would be:

Prepaid card, top-up with fiat and earn cashback in BTC.
3198  Other / Meta / Re: Feature Suggestion -- on: July 10, 2022, 09:21:04 AM
Promise to Merit or Future Dated Merit

Why overcomplicate the things? No reason, really.
The forum should be (and is) centered on discussing things, not on getting merit. Merit is.. just a bonus.
3199  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have a Question About BTC I need an Answers to. on: July 10, 2022, 09:17:54 AM
1_"Why is the algorithm of BTC built in such a way that it drives all other cryptos as it moves up or down?

Like "Would it not have been much better if BTC price movement do not effect every other cryptos?, So as when the price of BTC falls, other cryptos price will not but would be base on the amount of demand and supply present in them,  just like the traditional forex market where all fiat currencies do not fall at same time.

It's not about the algo.
And what you're asking is it's like asking "why when USD price skyrockets vs <country X> currency also the gasoline price (in <country X> currency) skyrockets?" (And yes, that's because the international price of oil matters, and that's in USD).

Most altcoins are traded vs BTC, not dollar. And that's one of the reasons altcoins' prices depends greatly on the fluctuations in Bitcoin price.

Did you get any easy-to-get WindowsPE iso too?
Nope. But my stick is full, I had to wipe Ubuntu already. It's only 32 GB and quite slow, but this is what I had laying around. I don't expect to use it a lot, but when I need something, it'll be much faster than first downloading and burning a DVD.

If one reads your posts, he can understand hat E2B is more difficult to get/install than Ventoy, while (only?) that windows iso (3rd party payload) is problematic...
My conclusion is that E2B is more for windows users and Ventoy for Linux people. And it's OK. The more the merrier.

I'm glad that you managed to finally get the ISO. And yes, this is the point of the setup: easily add iso, and also pretty much benefit of the security of live OS setups (if you take some precautions, obviously).
About the USB stick slowness, in most cases they're slow on writing, but okay at reading, I hope that's the case for yours too.
