classic.mtgox.com always seems to work better for me when the main site starts to lag. Also the android app as a last resort.

Thanks for the tip!

After two 1000+ BTC mis-orders on the new site, I only use the classic site, which has better UI separation between the buy and sell sections.

Thanks for the tip!

The new site is just terrible UI design for volatility traders like me, where one often enters multiple buy & sell orders one after another.

omg this.

this has happened to me soooooo many times. accidentally buying while trying to sell. also, sometimes it switches your bid/ask price to market value randomly, and sometimes that happens right before you place an order. sooo frusterating. I have lost hundreds of dollars because of this.
TY SO MUCH FOR SHOWING ME CLASSIC MTGOX. The new mtgox UI is TERRIBLE for day trading, or even trading in general

Yeah. Had a couple of mishaps like that. Simultaneously buying and selling to myself. Roll Eyes

Or accidentally selling instead of buying, as sometimes the Sell Bitcoins tab switches to the Buy Bitcoins tab after placing a sell order. (Upon reloading the page most likely?)

"Well, there goes my earnings for the day." Not fun. Shame on me for being sloppy, shame on Mt.Gox for bad UI design.  Angry

Obviously, they gain earn fees from these bad trades. Still, any business that hurts their customers is not good business for any service.

The Order type: SELLING/BUYING column of the Your Open Orders tab could use solid color RED and GREEN backgrounds, in place of the indistinguishable alternating blue/white of today.

How can I best forward this suggestion to Mt.Gox? PM tux?

Translation: "I believe that bitcoin needs more drug users to buy into bitcoin in order for the market price to go up. Let's promote illegal activity in bitcoin guys!"

I stand by my tripod statement.

Bitcoin needs 3 legs to stand on, Drugs, Sex and Gambling.

SR covers the 1st nicely but I wish it was not the only one that did so (all your eggs in one basket etc).
Sex is getting there, seeing more and more cam girls etc. I really hope this takes off - my current speel: Tired of your partner seeing (foot/gay/bi/ladyboy/scat)-fetish on your CC bill - USE BITCOINS !!!.
Gambling - while still small Id call what we currently have a success for the community size we have.

VHS won over BETA mainly because of porn, bitcoin will win its place as a currency because of Drugs, Sex and Gambling.

1) It would be nice to be able see if a trade was a buy or a sell. and you could have an option to play sounds according to if it was a buy/sell or if it was an up/down tick.
The problem you are getting into there, from a developer/operator POV, is that it gets really complicated in a hurry with settings to please everyone (buy/sell or up/down are mutually exclusive so you need options for one or the other).

2) Add a fullscreen mode option. I know f11 does the same thing, but in F11 mode you still have the scroll bars on the side and bottom if you're zoomed in.
I would also like this, or more accurately: scaling of the chart to the viewport size.  Having this on my 51" TV would be, wait for it: AWESOME!

hmm, the whole buy/sell vs uptick/downtick is the only problem that I have with clark moody. I would (and i'm assuming most other people would also) MUCH rather have the green/red trades based off of buys/sells rather than upticks/downticks. Also u could get rid of the "white trades." The whole uptick/downtick format can be really misleading because you could have a big buy that shows up red and implies that a bear move just happened and vice versa. Same thing goes for "white" trades. White trades imply neutral trades, when in reality they could be a huge buy/sell.

I don't know the technical details about how hard it would be to make this change. But, my 10btc offer is still on the table.

EDIT: Please fix the depth chart bug Sad

you might find this interesting. the definition of the word "Justice" https://www.google.com/#hl=en&gs_nf=1&tok=QkytIlgCkfcx-qxYbDkQ-g&cp=11&gs_id=9a&xhr=t&q=justice+definition&pf=p&sclient=psy-ab&oq=justice+def&gs_l=&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=aa499a16869e0be5&biw=1920&bih=955

It says nothing about laws or crime. It talks about being "just." and "the quality of being fair and reasonable."   Putting people in jail for voluntarily putting drugs in their own bodies is "unjust."  The Whole goal Judicial system is the pursuit of Justice.  So, "crimes" are something that is considered "unjust." Therefore if you think voluntarily ingesting substances is "unjust" then it is a "crime." IMO, voluntarily doing anything to yourself is not "unjust" as long as it is victimless.

This. Also, I like to use dictionary.com... it uses makes shorter links, at least. Wink

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/justice
yea, i just thought i would use the google link so people can't claim that I looked for a definition that fit my argument.

also, volume (of the audio) control would be nice.

cool. im using ErebusBat's script right now and its working beautifully. I still want to donate to your site because I think it is hands-down the best site to use because it shows the order book. Unfortunately, the order book is kinda bugged right now and the red/blue/green orders won't disappear. Anyways, I love your site.
3188  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Real Time Charting, Order Book, and Time & Sales on: July 23, 2012, 10:12:11 PM
as for the sounds. its best if they are inconsistent so you can hear every time the sound restarts. like if you have 10 trades in 1 second and the sound is 1 second long then you want it to play 10 times in a second and know when its resetting from the beginning.
Technically it should be possible to detect this and even play another sound (high volume trade?).

The problem is you would need a trigger, and the first trades before the trigger would still play the other sound.  Then some decay period.
i like the idea of being able to play a different sound for high volume trades. it would be even better if you gave the option for us to define what a "high volume trade" is.

Is there any way that you could add an option to add audio for trades? I would really love to be able to hear a noise for every uptick and a different noise for every downtick and something else for just white trades. This way I don't have to be watching the chart 24/7 to look for a rally/crash. I can be browsing a different website and still hear it, so i don't have to check in on it all the time, I can also just hear it happen across the room and get to my computer to trade. I could also just listen to the trades when i go to sleep. There are so many other benefits to adding audio. This would help my day trading A LOT.  also, it would be nice to be able to ignore low volume trades under a certain threshold. those .01btc bots would get annoying as far as the audio goes. I would set mine to .1btc. I suggest making different options for the threshold. Anyways, IF you implement these changes, I'll pay you 10btc.

EDIT: also it would be nice if there was a sound for when u get disconnected and reconnected. that way if there hasn't been a trade for a while then you don't have to check to see if you were disconnected or not.

hmm, i got disconnected. and all my orders were set to "pending" and i couldn't cancel them. is there any way to trade on mtgox exchange without using their website?

thanks for this. i never knew this existed.

nvm, it's back online now. There was some serious lag handling all those orders. Gox really needs an upgrade

3197  Economy / Speculation / Re: Silk Road growing and getting re-designed for the increase of new users. on: July 22, 2012, 08:54:49 AM
Like it or not, I speculate that bitcoin will be used more by criminals than by law abiding citizens.

And it's important to remember that not all criminals are violent.

In one place, this woman is a patient in a medical program.
In another, she is a criminal:

I think that SR is a great website and is for the good of humanity. IMO, the war on drugs is a lost cause. There should be no such thing as a "controlled substance."  But, after all, this is the speculation forum so I don't want to get in a debate about morals.
The main reason I think this upgrade to SR will spark a rally is because it might get some news coverage. Also, more people joining SR = more people discovering Bitcoin.

Translation: "I believe that bitcoin needs more drug users to buy into bitcoin in order for the market price to go up. Let's promote illegal activity in bitcoin guys!"
That's a bad translation. This forum is for speculation, and kentrolla speculates that much of the bitcoin economy is in drug trade, and that the SR redesign will attract more users to them and thus to bitcoin. It's not an endorsement of anything, it's a statement of belief in how things work. I don't think I agree with it, but then I don't agree with most things in this crazy subforum. No need to jerk your knees.
ty for this post. smoothie seems like he's out to get me or something.

@smoothie: where did i suggest promoting illegal activity? This is a speculation sub forum. Also, the black market is a ~10 trillion dollar market and bitcoin is perfect for it.  Like it or not, I speculate that bitcoin will be used more by criminals than by law abiding citizens.

The whole "bad press" argument doesn't make sense to me. ANY press is good press. I know i got into bitcoin because of an article about Silk Road. I thought to myself, "if criminals are accepting bitcoins for drugs then they must be worth something,"  so this influenced me to do some more research on bitcoin and i decided that it is a great idea and could be an awesome technology as long as people become aware of its benefits. So any press is good press because it spreads awareness.

I think that silk road is one of the main things that back bitcoin. With these improvements and the influx of new users. I can see a rally soon.

Here's the announcement post:

Greetings everyone!  It has been some time since I have made an official announcement, and I am very pleased to be making this one today:  The look and feel of our beloved market will be transformed in just a few days time!

We have been working tirelessly to deploy many "behind the scenes" upgrades over the past few months that have vastly improved our security, flexibility and availability.  These advances aren't sexy, and don't get much fan fair, but hopefully you've noticed the site running smoothly even as our community grows.  This kind of work rarely get's acknowledged, so I would just like to applaud everyone on the Silk Road team that has put in the effort to make this possible.

But now, in just a few days, I will have the honor of rolling out a sleek new look that will be impossible to miss and I am sure you all will love.  I feel it matches the integrity and professionalism of our community and the robust technology that empowers it.  New comers will now have the confidence they need to take that leap of faith and make their first purchase.  My hope is that this day will be looked back on as one where we really came into our own and started a new chapter in our quest to stand up for our freedom and declare ownership of ourselves and our bodies.

So you aren't too surprised when the change comes next week, here's a little sneak peak at the new login screen:
http://xfq5l5p4g3eyrct7.onion/view.php?image=ec5bd763f500d3c9d19f9e8ba2bf6107.png

When you see this, NO you are not being phished!

Much love to you all,

Aren't you the guy that claimed to have gotten 200 "free" bitcoins because of the error in mtgox data feed?
it was hypothetical. i was under the impression that there was still trading going on during the malfunction

There was trading going on, just not at the Gox.
i know, but clark moody was showing trades happening on mtgox. Then we found out that it was just a loop.
