<-- New member here as well.  New to the forum, new to BTC, and new to anything involving the command line.  Lots to learn!  Better to get in sooner than later, wish I started this learning process a couple years ago.  Cool

Is that a success?
No.. check your USB drivers.
He doesn't have any devices. It appears that he has successfully connected to the pool, which is what he is trying to learn while waiting for his first device to arrive.

Yes, that was my goal, thank you.

I did read the README, I have added a pool and my username at the command line, it appears that I successfully connected to the pool, just without any mining devices, which is what I was hoping to accomplish (command line noob). I'm not sure I understand your comment.

Huh Huh Huh Huh
Pool url user and pass are unknown for cgminer Wink
Having usb devs connected does not have anything in common for testing pool connection
Mikestang,  read cgminer README first
And add pool

Perfect, thank you.  Cheesy

Prior to the arrival of my ASIC mining gear I wanted to try to connect to the pool as a test, just to see if I could do it.  All I have available to use as a miner is the gpu on my graphics card.  I don't expect to accomplish anything with just a single gpu obviously, I only wanted to see if I could connect to the pool.  I tried using GUIMiner to connect, but am not having any luck.  This is what I'm seeing:

What am I do wrong?  Everything, probably. Smiley

Thanks.

I see lots of "don't use faucets" responses in this thread, is that just because, for the most part, you'll spend more in electricity using them than they'll payout in satoshi?  I'm new to BTC and have been using a few faucets just get get a positive balance in my wallet.  I click the faucets while doing other computer work, so it's not like I'm sitting there twiddling my thumbs, waiting for faucet timers.  So far I've racked up about 0.003BTC with my spare clicks over the past few nights.

New Bitcoin user here, just getting into the solo mining lottery with ~240GH coming online soon.  Can't win if you don't play.  I've read through this entire thread, but sure I'll have questions when my gear arrives.
