3181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin isn't worth it for consumers. And that will stop adoption. on: November 23, 2013, 09:52:01 PM
The biggest fear is that Bitcoin is just some elaborate project by the NSA to capture the entire world's wealth. They could enslave us if this is the case.

Not sure if sarcastic or if i have to wear my tinfoil hat   Lips sealed

You haven't kept up with recent world events have you? In case you didn't know the NSA has been spying on the whole planet and is up to no good. Is it that hard to imagine that the a shadowy US secret agency that employs the best cryptographers in the world would want us to store our wealth in crypto currency for it's own nefarious purposes?
3182  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Offline send - can't send from change address on: November 23, 2013, 09:48:32 PM
In the electrum console on the offline wallet try to run this command a few times. It will generate a new change address so you'll have the private key in your wallet and be able to sign the transaction:

wallet.accounts[0].create_new_address(1)

To generate new main account addresses (in case those are the ones that are missing) do this:

wallet.accounts[0].create_new_address(0)

Or increase the gap limit. Say 20:

wallet.storage.put( 'gap_limit', 20 )

You may have to restart the client after you do this.

Source for all of this is the developer himself:

3183  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: HELP! ELECTRUM crashed & now I've lost my BTC!! on: November 23, 2013, 09:41:27 PM
Ive done that a fw times already and somehow dont' have just one seed file to check now...  there are multiple.

I DO have the same one that I used to restore the wallet minutes b4 I the crash which happen within a min of me using the seed to install them.  I just wonder if the crash during a transaction is the reason this is happening?

cant I just use that wallet address, the tx id and all the othrr stuff at localbitcoins.com site along with the seed phrase somehiow?

NO! Never put your seed on a website. As flagel8 said you need to calm down. You will likely make mistakes that will cost you your coins if you go on like this.

You will need a computer to spend your coins. So first fix your PC or use a laptop or smartphone (electrum works on android - check out electrum.org/download.html). As long as you have the seed you can restore your wallet on any TRUSTED device you OWN and then spend the coins.

3184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin isn't worth it for consumers. And that will stop adoption. on: November 23, 2013, 09:31:37 PM
Bitcoin is turning into a store of value rather than a medium of exchange. It is behaving like gold. People buy gold not because they want to use it to buy stuff at the corner shop but because they want something that is supposed to be immune to inflation i.e. a store of wealth. In Bitcoin's case if you get in now there's a good chance you will make money too over and above the rate of inflation.

The biggest fear is that Bitcoin is just some elaborate project by the NSA to capture the entire world's wealth. They could enslave us if this is the case.
3185  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Question on: November 22, 2013, 10:21:46 PM
I just figured out that you have to drag the tabs from inside the program to see the public key. It works now

They are addresses not public keys.

Cleaning up now.
Episode reservations that are "past due" are marked R NAME YYYY-MM-DD now, before I will remove them a few days later.

Also, Abdussamad, I'm unsure about e12, you're still working on that one?

Oh I completely forgot about that one. I have two eps 13 and 15 reserved and I don't want to hold anyone back so no. I can always reserve more if I need to.
3187  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to import electrum.dat file (created with 1.8.1) in Electrum 1.9 ? on: November 20, 2013, 09:03:00 PM
Ehm... where to put it to?
Why don't you find the wallet.py file on your system
3188  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to import electrum.dat file (created with 1.8.1) in Electrum 1.9 ? on: November 20, 2013, 02:59:24 PM
It is 4 months that i'm trying to use Electrum but i experienced these problems.
This is the second bug that i discovered and due these bugs i can't use Electrum propertly.
Every time i have to wait for a new release Cry

Here is the other bug: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=260621.0

Why don't you find the wallet.py file on your system and replace it with the new version:

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/raw/6dc9bfbe07937fbbc198d07e26ca5a976173d4b4/lib/wallet.py

Alternatively you can edit it to make those changes. Just remove the line in red and replace it with the lines in green.

3189  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to import electrum.dat file (created with 1.8.1) in Electrum 1.9 ? on: November 20, 2013, 11:47:59 AM
Ok then. This is beyond me. Sorry.

I opened an issue on Electrum site and they tell me that it should be fixed by this:
https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/commit/6dc9bfbe07937fbbc198d07e26ca5a976173d4b4

What does it mean?

It looks like their function for getting wallet data was not returning the default value when appropriate. Now they've fixed that.

Edit: More to the point of what you were really asking, you may have to wait till the next stable release or you could ask them for help on how to install the current beta release which has that fix.

I hope Kluge is alright  Undecided
Last I checked, he was. Power outages for the rest of the week, though Roll Eyes
Awesomely enough, power came back late last night. I called the electric company after hearing a Friday estimate on the radio and they told me to not expect electricity until Saturday.

Unfortunately, we started cooking all the meats in the freezer since we were expecting it to rot. Couldn't light oven without taking it apart, so boiled a whole turkey. Was like chewing a roll of tape. Angry

Only fatality was a "barn kitten" which froze to death in a flower pot after being too stubborn to leave his favorite sleeping spot when the sheeting over the tiny greenhouse was shred apart by the wind. Daughter's staying with her grandma today. Should be able to get through all the unpaid transcripts and a few extras today. (.odt in .zip is fine, btw)

Wow sounds pretty bad. I hope things getter better soon.
3191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Am I the only one who feels relieved when the price goes down? on: November 19, 2013, 08:48:19 PM
I am very happy to see the price go down. It was really going crazy.
3192  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did I just get sold fake coins? on: November 19, 2013, 02:37:29 AM
i just checked my confirmations and i think it's a bug with electrum.. on blockchain.info, i have over 2000 confirmations.

Just restart electrum. It does that sometimes and restarting it fixes it. Next time please make your own thread.

3194  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitstamp verification on: November 19, 2013, 02:03:00 AM
Dear Bitcoin community

Does anybody know, how long the verification process at bitstamp.net takes?

Thanks for your help

Couple of days to for them to reject it. Then you have to contact support and they will verify it within a few hours Roll Eyes.
3195  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BOUNTY] 0.15 BTC per transcript of LetsTalkBitcoin on: November 19, 2013, 01:20:48 AM
Please extend my reservation of episodes 13 and 15 for another 2 weeks. If that is not possible then please allow me to reserve just episode 15 for a further 2 weeks.
3196  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 1.9 released on: November 19, 2013, 01:10:56 AM
Thanks, but not working. Need to hear from the developer.

I just tried it and it works fine. You need to specify a custom wallet file using the -w option and a gap limit using -G. So for a new wallet file test.dat with a gap limit of 100 it would be:

electrum -w test.dat -G 100
3197  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 1.9 released on: November 18, 2013, 10:46:50 PM
I am trying to upgrade from 1.8.1 portable to 1.9.4 portable using seed. The gap limit was set higher than normal in 1.8.1 (required for an application using the master public key) and to recover all addresses I need to increase gap limit in the 1.9.4 version (Windows) or I will lose transactions. I need to set the gap limit in 1.9.4 the same as is was in 1.8.1.

How do I increase the gap limit in 1.9.4 portable in Windows? The option no longer exists in GUI. I sure hope you did not take that capability away, that would not make sense and is a big headache for me.

Yes he did take that capability away in the GUI. But what you can do is to run Electrum with the -G switch:

electrum -w mynewwallet.dat -G 10

(The -w part is optional if you don't have a default wallet)

This only works with new wallets and I guess with wallets you are restoring from seed.

For an existing wallet you have to do this:

3198  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Gap limit setting missing in 1.9? on: November 18, 2013, 10:45:14 PM
ThomasV said that you run this in the electrum console:

wallet.accounts[0].create_new_address(0)

Then you restart the client and the new address will be displayed on the receive tab. The label next to the new address will be red though which is not something to worry about.

I guess you could run the above command in a loop, if you know python loops, to generate lots of new addresses.

3200  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Problem with wallet? on: November 17, 2013, 09:39:16 PM
You have to run it via the command line with -rescan added to the name of the executable. I don't use macs but I do know they have a terminal program so you start that up and type in this:

bitcoin-qt -rescan

Alternatively if you have a short cut link to bitcoin-qt then you can edit the properties of that and add -rescan to the command. Do you have shortcuts in mac??
