Well it can't possibly be worse than 2018. I am cautiously optimistic about 2019. Once we get through the last of the tax loss selling this month it will be a chance for the market to start recovering. But I don't think it will be anything like 2017. The coins that rise will be based on them having a compelling use proposition and not just pure speculation about the future.

Ethereum is not going to die. There are more projects being built on its platform than all the other blockchains combined. This bear market has affected all cryptocurrencies. It will eventually end and the cryptocurrencies that have a compelling value proposition will rise again. Ethereum will be one of the survivors.

The bear market has affected all coins because the hype of 2017 has failed to produce results and the regulators have been cracking down. This is has created a downdraft that has affected all coins except the stable coins tied to a fiat currency. When the recovery comes it will based on individual coin producing something of value. Like we recently saw with WAVES rising in price because they released a new mobile wallet.

I have a huge backlog of Bounties in my pending folder. They are reluctant to release coins in a bear market because they think it will negatively affect prices. The truth is that their failure to keep their promises have destroyed trust. If they had paid on time I would have made a determination about holding the coin based on what I thought future prospects would be. Now since they have destroyed my trust I will be looking to liquidate at the best possible price knowing their delay will have killed any future they may have had.

I don't agree. The moderators have a difficult enough time enforcing the rules of the site and preventing merit farming and other rule breaking activity. It is not their responsibility to police all the ICO's listed on the site or the bounty campaigns connected to them. You need to take some responsibility for yourself and be careful about what you invest your time and money in. If you are not capable of doing that maybe you should consider not investing and not participating until you have acquired more knowledge.

This is one of my favourite cartoons about the foolishness of those that invested for the first time last December.



The funny thing is there won't be any cartoons about buying BTC this year even though it is actually a smart time to invest.

The short answer is that they will go down as well. Some will go down more in percentage terms and some will go down less. The more interesting question is what will happen when the bear market ends, and it will end. Will there be a high level of correlation in prices during the next bull market or will it be a selective bull market where only those coins that are showing real progress get to rise.

Bear markets are a normal part of cryptocurrencies. BTC has had 3 bear markets where it lost more than 80% of its value in its short 10 year history. You need to understand that cryptocurrency markets are cyclical with people swinging between euphoria over its potential and despair over its slow uptake. Right now we are in the depths of despair over prices and regulatory reactions to the last bull run.

For this rise to be sustainable you will need to see people building interesting projects on the Waves blockchain. So far i have not seen any. Which is not to say there are none out there. Just that I have not seen any. If you know of any I would be happy to hear about them.

HODLing is not like sowing. Staking your coins is like sowing because they actually grow. Cryptocurrencies are cyclical. In its short 10 year history, BTC has had 3 bear markets where it lost over 80% of its value. If you sold your 1 BTC last Christmas when everyone was buying and stayed in cash until now when everyone is selling you would be able to buy 5 BTC with that money. If you are brave enough to do the opposite of what everyone else is doing you will make a lot more money than HODLing.

I have been doing bounties for about 2 years and you are joining at about the worst possible time for bounties. The combination of the fall in crypto prices and the increased scrutiny by regulators means that very few quality ICO's are getting done right now. If things continue as they are now you will have a hard time making 1 BTC this year. But things may pick up, prices might rise again and people might find away to do ICO's without running foul of the SEC.

I think those are people that don't actually understand what EOS and Ethereum are. EOS combines the low latency of Bitshares with the ability to use self executing programs like Ethereum. But it does this by using a more centralised structure. Ethereum has carved out a niche doing ICO's. You don't need low latency for ICO's but you need trust that the EOS centralised structure does poorer than Ethereum. EOS is never going to take the ICO market away from Ethereum and has yet to carve out its own niche.

Yes I think a bull market is coming, the one thing that I am not sure about is how much bear market we have left before we get there. I would say that we are close enough to the bottom that if you have a decent size investment horizon (2 years or more) then it is a safe bet to start accumulating positions now. Just do it gradually.
