321  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S1 Setup on: April 11, 2014, 09:32:05 AM
Would appreciate if people could spend 2 minutes providing feedback on the guides so I can improve them.
Hi Dogie,
Filled the survey.
Your S1 guide is great!
You may want to add a note on the router setting and IP address range, as current shipments come with a 192.168.1.99 address.
Another suggestion is to give some advice how to set multiple Ant S1's (modify the older one to some address in your router's range, then start the next one with default IP if it is the last one, or after setup move to the next available free address in your router addressing range).
If the router allows fixed IP allocation, this can be used (better to leave the S1 with fixed IP, so there is no issue with expiring DHCP leases, as it's expected to run 24/7 for days).
Another suggestion is to modify the default login password.

Cheers
322  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer U2 Trouble on: April 11, 2014, 09:15:23 AM
I just received my Antminer U2 today, popped it in, and launched GUIminer hoping to get started. However, it was not detected. I probably messed up by assuming that the correct driver would have downloaded. Do I need. To uninstall a driver before downloading the correct one? If so, which driver should I use for Windows 8? Finally, is GUIminer compatible with the Antminer, or is there a better choice? Thanks in advance for helping a noob.
GUIminer is ancient and unsupported.  Both CGMiner and BFGMiner are current and continuously updated mining software programs that support Antminer U1/2.  You'll need to install the correct drivers as pointed to by the previous response.  I have a bunch of U1 and U2's and they are running fine on BFGMiner (win7/64).

323  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: DRILLBIT SYSTEM Miners - Avalon range available - Now $104.99! on: April 10, 2014, 12:04:40 PM
Just picked up 2 16's. I am hoping I can add these to one of my ant rigs and use the same 750W PS (500-550w for the ant and the remaining ~200W to the 2 16's, **crossing fingers**) . If this works the way I plan, I can add these to my existing power supplies with little issue. Bring on the heat!!! As always, thanks Barn.
I just got 2 additional 16's, in addition to my previous 2.  I'm feeding 3 of them spare capacity from a 750W PS used for an Antminer S1, and 1 from a separate PS (ran out of PCI-e outputs/adapters to use a single PS). Just be aware that for the board group to be recognized as a single device (if you also daisy-chain them with SATA cables), the suggestion is to power them all up together.  This worked fine for my original pair, but now it became quite fiddly to get them all running as a single device.  After many attempts I managed to achieve this.  The alternative if you have difficulty is to use a separate USB cable for each (I did not try that). Once your PC recognizes the 'group' as a single device, you can restart the miner, change config settings etc.  I'm getting about 88 GH/s for the 4 boards with settings of int:750:1000.  Cooling these is a challenge, especially if all 4 are stacked in a single stack.  Probably need to stack a pair of box fans on both sides in push-pull fashion.  It's easier with a 2 board stack, as it fits the height of a single 12 cm fan.
You are probably aware that there are specific instructions on the Drillbit forum at http://drillbitsystem.com/forum/index.php?topic=309.0,

324  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.893 BTC for 180GH/s on: April 08, 2014, 11:30:01 AM
Anyone able to give me an indication of how long one of these would take to ship to Perth, Western Australia?

Thanks.
Orders from Bitmain to Sydney:  one took 7 days (probably due to having a weekend in the middle, and the shipping by DHL which then used Australia Post, that managed to shuffle it between a few distribution centres until they delivered).  The second one took just 3 days (shipping by UPS who deliver it all the way, no weekend/aussie post to delay).  Looks like UPS was the better choice in my case.

325  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Wifi cuts off every night on: April 07, 2014, 10:03:58 PM
Ok cool guys.

Well I moved the wifi adapter away from the heat.  I set the settings in device manager to not power off for power saving, it was actually on which was odd because I remember previously turning it off.

I went in the router and set static IP address for all wireless devices and pcs.  If I set static for everything could/should I disable DHCP all together?

The channel width is at a set 20mhz. Does bumping it to dynamic 20/40 increase performance?  just curious.

I think we are on the right path Cheesy  And you guys are also right the DHCP was set to renew every 1440 minutes.
You probably don't want to disable DHCP completely, because as you bring new devices (say a new smartphone or tablet), you'll also need to manually allocate an ip address).  The solution that I use is to use a router feature to assign a fixed IP address to some specific devices, then set a fixed IP address only for that 'problem' device (such as the miner that needs to run 24/7).  Increasing the bandwidth is probably unnecessary for your bitcoin operation which is a low data rate affair (but if you need higher data rates for other services that could help).  You also need to be aware of the wifi use by your neighbors (there is a free application called 'inSSIDer' which conveniently shows you which wifi channels are occupied and their levels).  Sometimes you might need to shift your channel to avoid interference. This is something that you may want to monitor and update periodically.  If your devices support this, move to a 5GHz wifi, or dual-band, as 2.4GHz is fairly congested.

Received today the U2's, they are working fine (joined their older U1 brothers, with a mild oc to 2.06 GH/s, clock=x0981).

Thanks Pidge!

DHCP has a finite 'lease time', so it has to be refreshed/renewed when it expires.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DHCP.  This is why you sometimes need to 'refresh' your LAN connection to your router.  It's not a 'bug', it's a 'feature' of TCP/IP.  24 hours sounds like a typical DHCP lease time.  Some routers will show you the expiry time of the DHCP lease for each connection granted.  In Win7, if you go to Network Connections, right click on the connection (wired or wifi), then on 'details', it will show the 'lease obtained' and 'lease expires' values for that adapter.  The default is 3 days on Win 7.

Using the Antminer U2 with cgminer and bfgminer, the guides for the U1 can be used e.g.

cgminer - http://cryptomining-blog.com/735-running-antminer-u1-usb-asic-with-the-latest-cgminer-3-12-3/

BFGminer  https://bitcoin.co.th/how-to-use-antminer-u1/

If you don't provide specific arguments to with cgminer, the U2's are detected as a "AMU" devices (ASICMINER USB), and run at AMU speeds.

With cgminer 3.12.0 and later, providing the "--icarus-timing=short --anu-freq 250" parameters to cgminer indicates that the devices are Antminer devices and the clock speed (250 MHz = 2GH/s).  cgminer also refines the timing of checking of when the device completes a share as time goes on.  (Note - tested with cgminer 4.0.0)

And at 250MHz, the heatsinks are painful to the touch on the three I have running.

Thanks for the info.  I have a bunch of U1's which are working reliably (used with bfgminer 3.10 right now, with mild over-clocking to 2.06 GH/sec each).
Thanks for the tracking. The U2's are are slowly making their way to Australia, from your description they will keep my place warm in the approaching winter...Smiley

Out of the 11 I've bought over the last month, one had a bad controller, and one was used with some dust on it.  The used one runs like a champ so I have no complaints there.  It took about a week to get a replacement of the controller, and I was really worried because they had terrible communication, but I was able to RMA it and they even sent some swag.  Seems shipping times are back to normal and the payment processing is working fine now.

I always overclock to 375, but you're looking at 50W extra for 10-15 more Gh/s, which might not be worth it if you're electricity is expensive.
My 2 S1's were brand new, and work fine.  As the electricity price here depends on the time of day, I sometimes under-clock them to 325, to save some 'juice'.
The last one came by UPS, before I saw the tracking info (after receiving it I checked the web site again, and there it was...Smiley

Done
did add the ntp servers, and did set custom dns to 8.8.8.8
actualy i did read his thread twice, not sure what exactly is wrong, the green lights that suppose to light while mining aren't lighting up at all
got mine to light up by switching pcie cables but it still wont mine hash rate is zero but pool info says alive? no antminer stats at all?
What sort of power supply are you using?

antec earthwatts 650, 80 plus bronze, dual 12v rails
I looked up this power supply on Antec's web site, however it doesn't specify the current on the 12V rails.  I'm using the Antec TruePower TPC-650 and it works fine.  Do you know what is the current spec on your PS?
In my setup the connection to the antminer is through the WAN, not the LAN.  How did you setup your connection?
Are you sure that you entered your miner credentials correctly?
How is your router setup in relation to the Antminer?  (as the WAN address is fixed, many routers allow a pre-allocation of an IP address to a specific mac address, you can use this feature to get your router to support a fixed IP for the Antminer.  Your Router's IP address range needs to cover the Antminer's, so if you leave the Antminer WAN at the factory default 192.168.1.99 your router needs to cover for example 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.100, typically in this case your router (the 'gateway') would be at 192.168.1.1).

Good luck
333  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to Mine Multiple Pools Simultaneously Antminer S1?? on: March 31, 2014, 12:01:19 PM
A simple procedure to get load-balance
Credits go to Kano https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=344970.2380 who provided the guidance - thanks.

Putty into Antminer S1

(note:  on Windows, if you copy text (Ctl+C) then click inside Putty and click the mouse right button, the text will be pasted.  This can save typing and reduce typing errors)

cd /etc/init.d/

vim cgminer

type 'i'  (to enter edit mode)
using arrows move to the line that has $APP and make it #$APP

Next replacee the line that says
 PARAM=" --lowmem $AOPTIONS $POOL1 $POOL2 $POOL3 $_pb --api-allow $_aa --api-listen"
with the following 3 lines:
 option pool_balance '--load-balance'
 MYSTUFF="-U Q1;pool1 -O user1:pass1 --load-balance -U Q2;pool2 -O user2:pass2 -U Q3;pool3 -O user3:pass3"
 PARAMS=" --lowmem $AOPTIONS $_pb --api-allow $_aa --api-listen $MYSTUFF"

Where Q1, Q2, Q3 are integers representing the weight given to Pool1, Pool2, Pool3 etc.
(for example if Q1=5, Q2=4, Q3=1 then Pool1 will use 5/(5+4+1)=0.5 (50%), Pool2 will use 4/((5+4+1)=0.4 (40%) and Pool3 will use 1/(5+4+1)=0.1 (10%) of the total hash rate of the miner
pool1 is the web address of pool1.  user1 is the user name in pool1 and pass1 is the password for pool1.  If you don't have more than 2 pools, just omit the pool3 parameters.

when you finished editing, type 'Esc' (to stop editing) then ':wq' to write the edited file and quit.

Now type 'reboot' and enter
close the Putty session.
Relog into the Antminer gui, when the Antminer finishes rebooting and go to the miner status tab, wait until mining resumes.  Verify that the desired relative loads are in effect (checking the received shares at the pool end may assist).

With slightly better cooling (2 12cm fans in push+pull arrangement) and some overclocking, this pair of Avalon 16 boards gets a steady 44 GH/s. The best setting found so far is
Av16:int:750:1:1000
I like the SATA daisy-chaining.  It's been working reliably here since I got them.

Did you get any update on shipping?  Mine is still 'valid unshipped'

No tracking number, but as I was leaving a UPS van came past me, had a hunch that it might be for me... and it was Smiley
Thanks Bitmain, you have an amazing organization.  Ordered Friday, arrived Monday.
Looks like UPS deliver it all the way in Australia, while DHL transfer it to Australia Post (not a very good idea) - Aussies make a note of that for future orders.
Took 5 minutes to set up, all running fine Smiley

Edit:  checked the Bitmain website later, and it now had the correct status and tracking number. Not sure what happened first, the physical delivery or the web site update.

I'm in a similar situation.  Took about 0.5 a day to confirm the payment (blockchain API issue?).  It is now 2.8 days since the order was started, so it looks like the 48 hours is not exactly met.  Bitmain's factory must also be busy with S2 and U2 devices.  The falling BTC value relative to USD is probably another disincentive. I'm sure that it will happen eventually.  On my previous order the main delay was in-country delivery (DHL transfers to Australia Post, which takes a break over the weekend, then waste another 1-2 days in transferring it between different distribution centers, fortunately it made it intact at the end, taking almost 7 days from order submission to delivery).

Cheers
