PoS Update

We are in the process of making sure the code is stable, we do not want to release anything that is unstable or not secure.  I apologize for the long delay, but implementing PoS into an existing PoW chain is quite complicated.

I will give a loose date of Thursday for the code to be complete and beta testing to begin. I will also send the code to Julian to have it audited.

Thanks for sticking with NAUT and I hope to surprise everyone on time!!!

So Julian isnt the dev? Who is?

Mintpal/Vericoin

Since I don't have all the information I cannot respond fully to the situation.  I am reading all I can about what occurred - if anyone has information that I should read please let me know.  Rest assured, if it is possible to protect against an attack we will do everything we can to prevent it.

It seems to me that the exchanges are the weak link of the digital currency world. In reality they are no different than the money center banks that operate in the centralized financial system we currently use -TO BE CLEAR WE NEED EXCHANGES.  Bitcoin/altcoins remove a good portion of the middlemen from financial services but  as long as exchanges represent a single point of weakness they will continue to be hacked. As of now they represent the only entry and exit into the digital currency ecosystem.

FWIW, I have the NSF in several wallets, most of which are offline most of the time.

My suggestion is to keep as few coins at exchanges as possible - we need a place for buyers and sellers to meet, therefore exchanges are in integral part of the digital currency ecosystem. At this point in time, without the exchanges the digital currency ecosystem will fail.

This breach highlights why I do not want to be the biggest miner on the NAUT network, since I represent a single point of failure.

To reduce the single points of failure I will make it part of the NAUT 'manifesto' to be the coin that continually strives to be decentralized.  Anything we can implement to decentralize operations will be considered.

On a related note: the current scams that are occurring should put everyone on notice that the blockchain solves a lot of problems, but cannot do away with human greed.

In the words of Sgt Esterhaus of Hill Street Blues - 'Let's be careful out there'

-BK

This is a huge relief to know this is how you feel. The altcoin scene has been horrible as of late mainly due to FUD/scams. That is why NAUT should get attention in a big way soon. There is no reason to think you are scamming and it will be near impossible to FUD NAUT when its creator can confirm on national TV haha.

That being said this PoS delay is hurting NAUT. We need a good network. The dev is getting near taking too long, I have watched a few teams do a PoS switch and this feels long. What is the status on the update?
323  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [NAUT] Nautiluscoin - First Coin w/Stabilization Fund - Digishield on: July 11, 2014, 07:35:56 PM
We havent had a new block in 6 hours, the difficulty is 1300+, and the coin has Digishield...

Is something broke?

There is a flaw in Digishield which miners are exploiting. I am personally mining the coin with a few ASIC farms to mitigate the stuck blocks. We are switching to PoS which will solve this problem

-BK

Will the switch to PoS be ready for this weekend?

Is this the correct wallet version "v1.1.0.0 DigiShield"?

Yes, this is the correct wallet version, the only difference on the recent mac wallet posted is that it is now a SIGNED wallet. So if you did update it, it will still show the same version number.

Thanks man!

btcdrak, how much will you be buying? I trust you but it would be an easy way to get free coin if you wanted.

Thanks

presale coins distribution - proportional bid system is not an ideal model. The person who bids high takes most of the coins and peanuts for the rest. You should have made first come first serve model. Not fair.

You can also argue first come first serve as unfair. This is a free market feel free to not invest.
328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] [VIA] Viacoin - the future of digital currency on: July 08, 2014, 09:17:07 PM
Is there a way to tell how much BTC has been sent overall by everyone?

Yes, it's all tracked here http://presale.viacoin.org/list.html
cool ty, one more question. How are the BTC addresses tied to the VIA addresses? This isnt a burn thing is it?

We will not remain quiet for long.

What kind of answer is this? Can you answer some of the questions that members have asked please? Like will there be a swap to V2 or can we leave our coins in the exchanges?

Sweet!

guys just remember that getting added through votes to Mintpal usually does nothing for the price. The best way is to be added by volume/features.

Agree, but I really don't know how URO through this week on mintpal, it was really shocking because ZS was leading from every other coins.

may have been their choice add so prolly off of volume/potential volume

Hello to all,

Just a quick update about the white paper.

For those telling they got access to the paper, no one has read a line of it, not even the marketing team Wink.

We will try our best to have it ready for tonight, but I'm pretty sure it will only be ready for tomorrow. (remember I said friday-saturday  Wink )

Last thing, if the white paper is not good enough people will see it and price will drop. So there's absolutely no logic in all FUD talking here, the most logical move if we wanted to sell the premine was selling it when the price was at 8000 when we got on MintPal, or even better sell it before distributing half of it.

Anyway, you'll all be able to judge by yourself the facts when you'll be reading the white paper Smiley.

you mean tonight as in Friday right? What time zone friday?

It would be nice if coins had a self-destructing kill switch in the event that said coin(s) was/were flagged as stolen.

That is one of the single best ideas I've seen.

If someone could figure it out to destroy the stolen coins > this would create a hole where new coins are needed so the volume stays the same > patch the blockchain with new coins to a new address where the victim would be given back their losses and volume would be back to original number

this would create an insurance type of system, and it would also gain trust with the public

Heh after the 'anonymity' fad wears off this might just be a thing. I could imagine a wallet offering 3rd party 2FA in return for a slightly higher transaction fee.

This seems like it would be abused and become the crypto equivalent of a chargeback. Things need to be trustless.

there is details to be worked out, but things cannot be trustless

we need trust in the system otherwise nothing will ever work

do you go to work not trusting the guarantee that your employer will give you a paycheck?

of course you don't, you trust your employer otherwise why even go to work

this would mean a middleman being involved and certain regulations would have to be put in place in order to guarantee the transaction

That goes against what bitcoin is all about. Middleman = centralization. When you have to trust you open the door for corruption.
