when and/or does everybody think this will be used as a dark market? millions go through them everyday and from what i have read about them the bar is not sitting very high. It has a lot of rip offs. If i understand this correctly if its decentralized it could be rip off proof? I haven't loaded the wallet up I have about ten wallets i don't use on my computer already. is there anyway you could show us what your sling road market looks like?

It has 2 party escrow,  so unless buyer & seller both want to lose money it is a secure way.
See link in my signature about escrow and 3 party vs. 2 party escrow,   if you don't understand why it works.

I guess one could say the third party here is the technology making sure both people don't cheat - autonomous fair system.

Hmm this was all that I had done to compile slingd, and worked for me.

Code:
git clone https://github.com/bitcoin/secp256k1
cd secp256k1
./autogen.sh
./configure
make
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig

git clone https://bitbucket.org/dgslayer/sling
cd sling/src
mkdir obj/crypto
make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=
strip slingd

Hi guys,

Im trying to install sling masternode to linux.

I installed already some crave masternodes w/o problem. I have installed also dependendies. However, I get this error when I triedto install sling

Code:
make: *** [obj/rpcwallet.o] Error 1

Do you know the reason for the error?

Hmm.. is that when compiling slingd?  I compiled it and did not have an error.
Which commands did you use.. are you compiling with UPNP ?

325  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SLING | Fully Working DECENTRALIZED MARKET in Wallet | SLINGROAD LIVE on: June 01, 2015, 12:48:48 AM
I added that to the .conf, which contains the nodes listed in the OP and now these,, and Im seeing 3 active connections,, which is better than 0,, so Thank you,, but still I must ask if there are anymore available active nodes that people can share here,, I really dont understand whats going on with this.

Seeing your other posts with other coins, it sounds like you have connection issues in general.
I suggest checking your router and your network.

addnode=104.238.133.29:30137

328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison on: May 31, 2015, 04:20:50 PM
You mistake the purpose of this life sentence. It's not to punish Ross Ulbricht, it's to intimidate all the other potential Ross Ulbrichts out there.

And it's not going to work, because the Silk Road was very useful and therefore very profitable. In capitalism profit finds a way to be made, just as water always finds a way downhill.

The TOR is not anonymous anymore. A large number of the TOR relays are controlled by the CIA, which helps them to identify the darknet users. So, until a new anonymization method is found, not many are going to follow Ross's lead. That means that the authorities have achieved a temporary success. But eventually, a new method will be found and the CIA / FBI won't be able to do anything about it. And then, people like Ross Ulbricht and Blake Benthall will be revered as heroes, who stood up against the system.

You should look into I2P and already permanent, working decentralized anonymous markets like SlingRoad.

Just downloaded the Sling I2P windows wallet,,

used the addnodes made a .conf

and I have 0 active connections to the sling network,

it is allowed past the firewall,

Is there a new updated list of nodes anywhere??

Are you trying to use I2P or just clearnet?  If clearnet, it should just connect / start having connections.

Two party escrow is good; I just didn't know Sling supported it so that is great.  Thanks for the information!

As an eBay/Amazon seller (and buyer), I don't like the third party escrow system too much.  Third party escrow could help but we need to build a decentalized trust system.

As a programmer, I struggle with this issue all the time.  I am trying to build software related to healthcare that needs decentalized trust but just can't seem to find a viable solution without using a central authority.

Hmm,  yes that post I linked explains the downsides of a third party system.

As to your problem,  create a blockchain that would store medical coded data ?

I think this is a good coin and I'm staking > 5,000 with an Amazon cloud server and planning to hold.  The daily payout is not bad.  I think this coin is way under valued.  <snipped>

What do you find wrong with (6) the escrow system ?  It has 2 party escrow.

can I set up a sling masternode on my home computer, or do you have to use a VPS?

asked this question a few days ago and didn't get a response yet. I think it's because I Asked it right after a dev update, but can anyone answer this question for me? i'm thinking of buying enough sling to run a MN, but I dpon't have a vps and don't really want one... can I Do it on my home computer?

You can run an MN on a single home computer, - BUT - you naturally would have to keep it running often in order for it to be operational.

That is why a VPS makes more sense.

great, yeah that shouldn't be a problem. My main machine is on 24/7.
Are there any "noob-friendly" instructions for MN configuration? A video maybe?

The basic concepts of setting up masternodes in this video are what seemed to have helped me.
For a different coin, but you can follow the same methods.

In respect of Ross Ulbricht & sentencing today,  it is in humankind's hope that markets like SlingRoad will live on & flourish forever !
Decentralization shall be the whole of the law Cheesy

Thank you to those who have gone before us and have shown us what needs to be done to make better solutions!

335  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SLING | Fully Working DECENTRALIZED MARKET in Wallet | SLINGROAD LIVE on: May 28, 2015, 05:29:41 PM
right now there is no buy support... Look at Bittrex... 3btc buy VS 180btc sell.... Its really sad. Im at a loss of about 6btc in this coin. I hope it turns a corner and has a rise. Its up to the community and the dev to keep bringing updates. Hopefully it will recover to a nice stable price

Not all buy support is always listed on the order book, I hope people know that.
