322  Economy / Speculation / Re: Currency-like Volatility? on: January 29, 2015, 01:05:00 AM
Stable national currenices maintain monthly volatility against the US dollar of less than 12%; most far lower.  Central banks can smooth this to some degree as is politically or economically useful.

With Bitcon's supply predetermined, what type of price discovery/market cap would be necessary to find comparable stability in the 3-5 year near term?  We currently observe month-to-month exchange rate swings of 40% or more.

right now it inflates by 8% this year. That means it will remain extremely volatile for now. Try again in 2020 after two more halvings. Maybe better then (in case it's still relevant then).

The problem is that money coming into Bitcoin is not sufficient to meet this inflation. If this increases, the relatively high inflation Iin terms of money supply) wouldn't really matter.

220$ (price) times 3600 coins per day is 792k$ needed every day to hold said price. It's going doooown.
Inflation is unaffordable for anyone.

"DVC is theoretical silver, right? Why would i want to buy silver with UNO?"

I respect your intent to remain uninvolved -- but I'd like to answer the question:

you can trade DVC for any crypto you like, or for fiat. There are a number of bullion holders here, and we can 'make into crypto' our physical bullion.

Thus, of over 1,000 cryptos in the realm, DVC was in the top 3 $-value-holding coins when Btc recently hit its low.

Best of all, we will soon be issuing 'equity DVC,' which will allow Uno folk to buy and sell Uno without moving them from their wallets.

Bottom line, though, is that DVC is part of a community-trust-building experiment unlike any other that I know of: keeping Uno in safe hands, developing our merchant network, reducing blockchain bloat, providing benefits to the most active community members, and strengthening the community itself.

Go, DVC!

I'll take a look when i find some spare time. Is it listed on Coinmarketcap yet? It's a competing product to bitSilver and actually a better one because bitSilver isn't backed with physical silver (only with bitshares). Should get listed on CMC for more attention.

@ Gustav: come and take your frustrations out by workin' your way to holding some DVC: rare, holds its price against silver.

M

lol. The frustration  Tongue

DVC is theoretical silver, right? Why would i want to buy silver with UNO? Especially now. Silver is not going to rise as fast as UNO so i think i will decline for now. But thanks Smiley

Makes sense in a bearmarket and those are rare occasions with UNO. A real bearmarket is actually only possible if one of the big boys decide to take profit and that's probably not soon.

f*** this. Look at that bitcoin market!
I pulled all my sellorders. I refuse to sell one more UNO for these inflationcoins. I wait for fiatexchange. Selling UNO for BTC is monkeybusiness.
I personally don't sell, but if you want:

You can sell for fiat at Bleutrade. They also have a very nice interface...

trading: selling high wherever possible and buying at cryptsy Wink = more UNO

bleutrade isn't good you can't withdraw it (or at least i haven't seen the option). I want bankwire if possible. These bitcoin prices are a joke anyways.

In case of a run/bubble on UNO bittrex becomes potentially unusable because they only support sellorders for 2btc price max. So selling UNO for more than 2 btc at trex isn't possible.
So that's the proof bittrex is a shitcoin exchange.  Grin Can't even sell a good commodity there later on.  Cool

Guys, I'm looking for a dip. Will we not get a dip? 0.009 and that was it?

327  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fork off on: January 28, 2015, 11:53:09 AM
Why can't miners create artificial scarcity if they need it?

What percentage of blocks the top 3 miners generate? Like 70%? If they come together and decide not to include any transaction with fee smaller than 0.0001, and a few others follow their lead, it might be that you will have to wait a day or two to include cheaper transaction.

It will be a perfect trade-off between time and money: you want your txs confirmed faster? Pay more. It will also limit gambling "spam" by making it either more expensive or too unreliable/slow.

The difference with hard limit is that the hard limit is hard. If there's a sudden jump in popularity, there's nothing you can do.

In case of the soft limit by miners - it can grow dynamically, based on how many 0.0001 txs are being sent.

Sure. The fork supports for the formation of a miners cartel and insider deals. A real great thing (not).

328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fork off on: January 28, 2015, 11:37:47 AM
Not doing the fork in favour of socialist central planning and letting txs be a scarce thing and let fees rise a little with free market mechanisms will also get rid of the spam. It will also make sure miners have an incentive to mine far in the future. They'll be getting fees afterall.
Without fork, Satoshi dice and other gambling on the chain for small dollars would be the first thing to go and would be looking for offchain gambling (and not even soon but far in the future). I think all this fork-thing has no urgency at all as long as gambling for small dollars can take place on the chain in massive amounts.

Why would you want to allow for blockchain bloat from tons of microtransactions like small-dollar-gambling? A fork to larger blocks isn't justified as long as the microtransactions-spam can take place.

And why should miners support the fork? It just takes their future earning from fees away.

Doing a fork now without a need will also reap you a damaged image as people would start to call it Gavincoin instead of Bitcoin.

Very successful shorting the stockmarkets.
Profit will go to buying UNO. I just hope it stays this cheap for a little longer.

suggestion: next time bitcoin rises like mad move the buysupport down a little so the dumpers don't take it out necessarily. When Bitcoin dumps you can move it up again (unless you want to really get your buys filled in one go like today). It's a pain for any real asset to trade exclusively against such a volatile currency  Roll Eyes

This bitcoin pump and dump was pretty hilarious. I traded it profitable. Shorts still open  Grin

Also found the wallet wich dumped today into the buywall. 135 left in it i think. So wasn't even the usual Mr. potatoe.

A new number for you:
At a price of 1000$ for 1 btc (what everyone dreams of) the network would cost 1.3 BILLION USD in one year.
I think it's safe to say it's impossible to reach 1000$ before the halving and actually stay there. At a price of 250$ average for the next year until halving it will cost 328 million USD in that year.

... so much about fundamentals ...

"First US Bitcoin exchange opens."  LOL!

They really don't know wtf they are taking about, do they.

338  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Take refuge in bitSILVER on: January 26, 2015, 01:39:51 PM
with Unobtanium you can buy physical silver directly from merchant or community people. We have heaps of traders for Uno-silver / Uno-gold aswell as an asset going which is easy to trade and can be converted to silver shippped to your door. In that sense trading Uno for silver is decentral and no fishy business as you can get it delivered any time. In our case it's low risk and convient. I do have to admit i don't understand how bitsilver should work and suspect there is no real physical silver underlying which i can get shipped to my house, or is it?

Because when i buy 'virtual silver' or 'silverpromises' i need the option to get it shipped. Can i get bitsilver shipped to my home in form of physical bullion? Is BItsilver redeemable for physical? How is the conversionrate? How long does shipping take? Costs for shipping?

How much do you have in the vaults? What happens when silverprices suddenly go through the roof (silverbubble)? Are you selling tokens that aren't backed? Fractional reserve? Are you audited? By whom?

You can see BTS backing the bitSILVER has fiat + BTC buyers, and the bitSILVER is backed by over double its own value in BTS.

so you are backing a silverasset with crypto? Both is very volatile. What happens if you get margincalled? BTS could drop and silver rise in the same time. Let's say next week BTS drops 35% and silver rises 170% - in that situation you are short. What's happening then? Who pays?

So you hold no physical silver to protect you from volatility? Remind you: silver can be extremely volatile too at times. Looks pretty risky to me in case there is no physical silver underlying.

Good thinking BN, as always. Sounds like a plan.

Looking at the price in USD - below 10$ is unreal

now wait ... when this btc-pump comes down real hard people will start questioning.
Maybe they pump it more but it'll come down just as fast as it went up.

When do you think UNO will reach 1 btc price point?

Depends on many thing. Main factors will be how fast we can get rid of the weakhand man at cryptsy with the huge wallet who can't even withdraw his coins from the exchange. In case we get investors (not pumpers) with deep pockets we can be really fast at 1btc. In case we have the normal organic growth and no big investor coming and need to keep fighting against the potatoe-man it could take a lot longer. So saying 'when will it be price X' is hard to do.

I think overall it should rise. If fast or slower doesn't matter so much to me. I actually prefer such a nice growth we had last few months over a crazy pump. Think you would crazy pump it, potatoe-man would screw us. So we need to buy these coins from the cryptsy wallet as cheap as possible. When cryptsy wallet is drained we can go to 1 bitcoin in a very short time would be my estimate.
To stay on the ground of reality i'd say it should be possible to at least double or tripple the price this year (and have it stable then).

But there is so many unknowns. You can't predict things, really.

Price and value are two different things
Uno price is very low but the value pretty high. (from my standpoint)

But we know things in crypto can often change fast and dramatically. Predicting things is very hard.
