Somewhere in between thevictimofuktyranny's calm disposition & suggestions that things haven't been so good for the devs and popcorn1's rabble rousing "string those bastards up" & "they'll get what's coming" acrimony lies the truth of what's happened.

Based on how the dev was behaving for the few weeks before his final posting and the lack of serious detail around how he was going to execute his plans, I'm leaning more towards popcorn's explanations...

Anon devs who start getting quieter and having many days where they don't post is a sure sign an exit's underway (even if they're still holding large bags of their own coin; sometimes I think they bite off way more than they can chew and just give up).
322  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BTX] Bitcoin- The neXt generation on: June 03, 2015, 12:35:03 AM
And for those are wondering, updated wallet won't be released tomorrow. For many reasons.  First, I'm graduating this week and I have not time to work on anything else. I have to learn loads of stuff.
Second, network and network infrastructure has stabilized, so need for new wallet is not that big. Third, wallet has to be in TOP NOTCH state, fast, no bugs, you know. Therefore, rushing release is not a good idea.
I think hotheadness of TheAltTrader is only hurting situation.

Keep it cool and have a BTX week Smiley

Umm.. about 12 days ago there was talk of a wallet update. Ive done everything in the previous messages regarding addnodes and bootstrap, but atleast once a day my wallet stops syncing. It doesnt even say out of sync. I have to look at the console and see last block was 12 hours ago. Im on V2.02 with latest addnodes. Is anyone else having this issue?

Vegas

I'm still on the original (after the community takeover) version 2.0.0.0 wallet and for the past few weeks it's been working fine. Up until (somewhere probably around 15/May....not sure) it was terrible with constant syncing problems and the constant need to delete everything bar wallet.dat and start again. But I haven't had to do that for quite a while now. Occasionally I'll see that the green tick in the bottom right hand corner is gone and the circular syncing symbol is there, but it usually doesn't last longer than an hour or so before it's back to fully synced.

Sorry I can't be of more help but thought you'd at least like to hear that it's working well for me.

Mooncoin, lost developer, replaced by investor community and its' Market Cap $126,000

Fractcoin, lost developer, replaced by investor community and its' Market Cap $24,000

Cryptcoin, lost developer, replaced by investor community and its' Market Cap $16,400

Normally, it is polite to wait up to 3 months for the old developers DNS to stop.

And, a new DNS starts up with the new developer.

Perhaps, you could be helpful, by suggesting new developers?

Off the top of my head:

You could contact georgem at Spreadcoin (SPR) who seems to have been instrumental in resurrecting it after their dev bailed.

And you could contact TheAltTrader at BitcoinTX (BTX) who seems to be key to that community take-over.

Edit: And thelonecrouton at Bitcredits (BCR) who briefly appeared in this thread a couple of times. He may have some good ideas on what to do.
324  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CYP] CYPHER [3 HARDCODED NODES][QUBIT][1MB][C-CEX - BITTREX - CRYPTSY] on: June 02, 2015, 03:34:47 PM
I don't see any proof or evidence for anything written on this thread in the last few posts.

This ANN is bizarre Cheesy

Nothing astounds me more than when a set of reasonable observations have been made about the likelihood that a dev has bailed (which lets face it....when they're anon, is now a regular occurrence) and some fool retorts back with "I don't see any proof or evidence"...

It's not about "proof" it's about the bleeding obvious!!

Carry on with your "see no evil, hear no evil...." blinkers on but clearly a dev that hasn't posted for weeks, hasn't answered multiple PMs, has missed a major key date everyone was waiting on without a single update or word and has logged in recently, but said nothing, is hardly committed to assuring the community the project's on track!!

Honestly....when are people in these forums going to grow up and realise how easily these things turn bad when there's so little accountability? We're all just kidding ourselves if we think the manner in which this is being handled by this dev is EVEN REMOTELY reasonable. If this was a normal business it would be going bust now and customers would have walked in disgust. But because it's crypto, you have all these hanger-on-ers saying ridiculous things like "I see no proof" when it's so blatantly obvious someone's decided to just quietly slip away and hope no one's noticed.

I wish it wasn't, as the thing had potential, so but it obviously is.

(And even if he comes back now, he's demonstrated unreliability and lack of care/commitment to his stakeholders)

Essentially, you are saying you are guessing and giving us hearsay Smiley

Why be coy about the fact that you are guessing and giving us hearsay.

A missing developer or even a replaced developer is no big deal in Cryptos.

It happens all the time.

Why make a hiccup, sound like it's a serious issue.

Well I know what you're saying but it's not really "hearsay".

In a legal trial hearsay is unverified information gained from another party and not one's own specific personal knowledge, hence it can't be used as evidence.

I'm not repeating hearsay, I'm making an observation.

If it's but a hiccup....great! As hiccups go it's a pretty big one though and I'm cautioning people to be real and use some common sense about the likelihood of a future here.

If a community take-over was to happen and it was successful then I'll be the first to congratulate everyone involved.

but worthless? ... i dunno mate ...

Well if you can step in and head up a community take over (SPR style) then fantastic! My comments were mostly associated with the main thrust behind this coin; the cypher key/module the dev was developing. I'm guessing it would be hard to pick that up and run with it (but obviously not impossible). Maybe the project could morph into something completely different.
327  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CYP] CYPHER [3 HARDCODED NODES][QUBIT][1MB][C-CEX - BITTREX - CRYPTSY] on: June 02, 2015, 07:36:12 AM
dev online yesterday but not say anything...

He was online on may 30, not yesterday.

Guys I think you need to face up to the unfortunate realisation that the dev has done a runner and won't be back.

I could see this happening weeks ago and sold my 50K of CYP at around 1000 sat (which involved me losing about a third of what I'd put in having bought at 1500). The fact the website was offline for so long (and hasn't ever come back on-line) and the CypherCoin2015 Twitter account hasn't tweeted since 25/Apr, plus that appallingly lame video which was pretty much the last thing the dev did, said to me "uh oh....this one's a 'last out turn off the lights' situation". And it looks like that's the case.

I'm very sorry for anyone that has hung on thinking this will come good but it's clear it's not going to. The dev started putting a few things in his (or her) posts just prior to my decision to bale that were clear indicators. He'd not been on-line for a week or so and mentioned "problems with job/living issue etc"; almost a guarantee there's an exit in the wind.

One would like to think this is salvageable but I don't think it is given what was being worked on and promised.

Shame on you Cypher7A69, after taking people's BTC through the IEO process you have promised commitment to this project and now left people high and dry with yet another worthless crypto. You have committed a crime which you will be punished for once found out.
328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW, Darksend and InstantX on: June 01, 2015, 01:59:23 PM
i now mining dash with gpu, and i want to know if old x11 miner can be used to mine dash ?

edit : is x11 asic miner exist ?
Of course...I'm also mining.

I think x11 asic miner is still no present. But maybe I'm wrong.

A fair point to bring up occasionally but..
the question is rather, is it economically viable to design and build an asic machine for X11?

I designed some very tiny micro controllers and FPGA's in University for projects and we built a fast chip that could multiple two 4 bit numbers together.
You might think that its easy and can be done in 5 minutes, but it took days of involved boolean algebra, testing, errors, checking the faulty logic for latency overlap problems etc. Basically you can make any (speedy) function only from Nand gates and flip flops  but you will need very many of them and they are time consuming to setup.

So how long do you think it would take to design a logic circuit  to do 11 hashing algorithms from scratch ?!
The Sha256 maths on paper takes 16 minutes, and this is way more complicated.
https://youtu.be/y3dqhixzGVo

The months of development is not the killer issue though,
This is going to require a lot of logic in series and some of the hash functions will be quicker than others so you will have most of the circuit not doing anything for most of the time hence it will be costly to have relatively unused circuitry(more than common GPU's most likely)
You could optimize it of course in order to use some of the redundant circuit but this will bring in a new round of testing and errors (using the same part of an algorithm twice is risky as they may over lap-must be thoroughly tested)

So months down the line and 50k-100k later (investors getting nervous) drawing closer to an official release, you find that AMD have just released a new graphics card that is twice as quick as the last and Wolf0 has optimized the .bin again (TIA), thus quadrupling the hash rate so your promised pay back time has now gone up by 4, not such a hot seller on ebay any more.

And even if you get past all that, it has already been said that if there was an X11 asic machine developed, a fork could be taken immediately and now we have x12 instead and all that hard expensive work at the R&D labs for months was a complete waste of time (for this X11 coin anyway). Would any company take such a risk, with that in mind ?  (feathercoin done this already)

So do you take the first option, or do you go out and simply buy a few cheap Nvidia 750 ti's and wait for the next upgrades?

https://dashtalk.org/threads/x11-mining-optimisation-project.2584/page-6

Very interesting Sub-Ether. I've always known that an X11 asic was unlikely given the development costs and likely risk of ROI expectations being thwarted by ever faster GPUs hitting the market, but I've never seen the specifics spelt out like that. Thanks.

You forgot the verb.  What did you do to the wallet while it was running?  Close it? Move the wallet.dat file?  We don't know what happened without the verb.  Maybe use google translate?
what do you mean  Huh
the verb is accidentally
look in the dictionary http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Accidentally

You accidentally what? "deleted" (your) whole wallet? (that's what everyone's trying to work out)

5063 pages of posts for this coin?
Why so many posts?

Normal alt-coin BCT thread progress:

Page 1 OP makes a huge splash (but really features standard crypto fair - anon dev, PoW for a bit, then PoS for a bit) with promises of game-changing tech....whitepaper's coming....roadmap's coming....other stuff's coming....

Page 2 Miners having trouble but persevering, wallet having trouble, blockchain stuck, exchanges have wallet offline 'for maintenance'....

Page 3 Anon dev assures and strokes everyone...gets blockchain moving...gets wallet issues fixed...releases roadmap featuring MASTERNODES!!!

Page 4 Price starts going vertical...everyone's talking about it...Bobsurplus and DrMikeFromHashtag tell everyone "their team" is "investing" as this one's going to the moon on "solid tech and innovation"....

Page 5 Hundreds of BTC are traded on Cryptsy and Bittrex. Hundreds of noobs can't wait to get a piece of the action and start buying as it zooms upwards in an accelerating arc....people dump other coins....big sell-offs everywhere....big buys walls keep moving up....sell walls eaten instantly....

Page 6  "yeah Baby" "moon moon moon!!!" everyone's chanting, everyone's excited, hundreds of noobs are reading all the posts from the "pros" talking about people should get in now while the price is "still soooo loooow!!" Up it goes....the rush to buy is palpable....DON'T MISS IT!!!

Page 7 Dev's been very quiet....hasn't posted for a day....no problem....probably just busy....buy buy buy.....onwards and upwards....(OMG was that a big dump?....just temporary.....going up again)...

Page 8 Where the hell's the dev?.....what happened to the masternodes release?....where's the updated roadmap with the anon banking/trading/marketplace/messaging/sidechains/colouredcoins/cyphersignatures/homophonic-polyalphabetic-cryptoanalytic-overheadunderhang-thingamajiggy?

Page 9 Geez....it's crashing....OMG!!!....dozens of noobs crying...never ending noob posts "will my investment (that's now worth less than 10%) go up again?"....no sign of Bob or DrMike (or the dev for that matter).

Page 10 Just die-hard noobs left in the thread (wavering between desperation and mock coolness)...."It's still all good, thanks for the cheap coins! Ha!"...."C'mon guys. it's Chinese New Year, the dev's probably on holidays"...."If you bail now, yewl bee soiree!!"

Page 11 to 20 more of the same....true believers/never-say-die still trying to convince themselves there's a future.....dev hasn't logged in for weeks (but interestingly there's a new coin with a new BCT thread with a new dev that "writes posts just like the dev that was here.....very strange")

Page 21 (many months later) "Hello.....is there anyone here?"

Dash BCT thread progess

5063 pages of history in the making as the digital cash of the future is built and worked on and a community goes through many ups and downs, is attacked and maligned by a never ending troll-fest yet pulls together led by an extremely innovative and dedicated real world dev and many senior team members who are intelligent, supportive, engaged, very committed and who've never hidden behind their BCT usernames (unlike so many of the complete dickheads that come into this thread almost every day to rubbish what's being done).

Incredibly interesting story! Talk about one man's determination and never-give-up mantra!

Thanks for posting.

I have a good one for you, this guy (Dr Ronald Mallet) worked in secrecy for decades (is a Doctor of Theoretical physics) and has spent his life building a time machine using a high power ring laser that frame shifts space and then trys to send data backwards through time using the spin
direction of neutrons to repesent zero and ones.
(He has found particular mathematical solutions to Einstein's Relativity equations to prove the frame shifting can work)

https://youtu.be/tgUbWkiWNCo

''To use binary code through time using circular patterns of light to twist space and time (Space-time). Using light to manipulate time. The energy of the light beams will produce a gravitational field strong enough to drag a spinning neutron through time. ''

That's certainly out there. I wonder if there'll be someone from another research unit that will put up a counteracting argument "the problem with ring lasers is......" (just like "the problem with ring signatures is....")

Finally!

Been pressing F5 on this sucker for days wondering if it would ever return!

Felt like the entire all-coin 'industry' (using that term ever so loosely; 'casino' would be more appropriate) had had it's playground confiscated.

It's fitting and within the overall theme of what we've come to expect that the first posting in this thread after days of downtime was a troll chucking rotten tomatoes. Good to be back into the swing of normality isn't it!

For anyone that didn't see this on the other thread. The lucky staking blocks are working. (And I'm eagerly awaiting my next one now).

Well just when I thought the lucky staking was a dead loss look what I struck!!

OMG--that is awesome.  Been staking since the beginning with a lot of 50K+ blocks and have yet to hit a single lucky block.

Congratulations!   Grin

Yes, same for me. Was thinking I'd never get one and then I've hit the jackpot!

Couldn't wait to tell you all but I dared not until it had fully matured and had more than 40 confirms (as I was worried it would disappear again!)

So they are happening; just have to be patient I guess.

Appreciate the update.

You're absolutely right that it's better to release a "TOP NOTCH" wallet than something that's still buggy.

Have a good graduation and congratulations on whatever it is you're graduating!

A post from the Bitstake ANN thread. Saved here as it will be no doubt deleted from the other thread shortly.

Really. awesome website? Looks like a cheap template to me, Just like all the other sites out the in the crypto world

Yes. But neordicICE, you have levels of naivety going on here that are truly gobsmacking. People "investing" in XBS here are just falling over themselves to lose their hard won BTC to what is so obviously a dodgy operation.

Look at the Contact page for goodness sake. How many "businesses" taking deposits from people and providing a financial service have this for their contact page?

Not even an enquiry form let alone details of where this is, address, phone numbers, etc.

This stupidity just goes on and on...
