321  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you feel excited while gambling on: February 23, 2024, 05:26:16 PM
From my little activeness over here in the forum and my involvement in gambling I have been seeing some changes in me and it's gradually beginning not to please me anymore I don't know If I will say I am becoming too emotional with my funds but sometimes it's very painful to place a bet for about 2 to 5 consecutive times no winning and this is what is beginning to me make feels sad. I know is a game of luck but sometimes whatever we do and not feels happy we should try to quit it.
It is not peculiar to you my dear Gold, it is normal to experience some changes in your mood when you are actively engaged in gambling. For instance, there is a special feeling of joy when there is winning and some feeling of disappointment when there is loss. No matter how well we try to pretend that losses are good, it feels a little bad when we lose our money. These feelings are intensified when either of the scenarios happens consistently; if it is winning that happens consistently, the joy is unmatched and can somehow lead to complacency. On the other hand, if it is losses that is prolonged, the pain can lead to depression if not managed. So the concern is what changes are you noticing? Are they as a result of consistent losses?  Whatever be the case, you must know that it is normal to have those feelings as a consistent gambler.

322  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do You Phase Or Are You Slowing Down Your Gambling Activity When.... on: February 23, 2024, 04:35:04 PM
Did you slow down or are you taking a vacation? how long is your vacation before and after the religious activity?

In my case, I usually slow down and stop all my gambling activity, two weeks before the religious activity so I can fully reflect on my religion, and after the religious activity, I usually take a week before I get back to my normal gambling activity.

You participation in this discussion is appreciated.
Personally, religious activities is everyday and I do not have dedicated time for religious activities. The greatest requirement of my religion is to love humanity, do good to all and always seek divine guidance in the activities of life. Gambling does not constitute a distraction to my religious practice in any way whatsoever.

I am also from a country where there are several religions with relative religious freedom. So there is no compulsion from anyone on the basis of religion neither is there restriction on gambling on the same basis.
323  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: FG benefiting from dollar rise against naira, Ndume alleges on: February 22, 2024, 08:43:28 PM
The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume said the federal government are gaining from the inflation in the country:

Ndume said rather than losing out from the naira depreciation against the dollar, the Federal Government is gaining more revenue to fund its 2024 budget.

They think we do not know?

Another is the salary they are paying there workers. The minimum wage was ₦30000 when dollar was at ₦365 when people were complaining of high cost of living, not knowing what is still coming. Today dollar is ₦1486 to a dollar, using the same CBN rate but minimum wage stayed at ₦30000.

NLC that said at least minimum wage should be increased are correct. Dollar is increasing, government are gaining more from crude oil but not increasing workers salary.

In the last 7 months, petrol import reduced by 1 billion litres: https://punchng.com/petrol-import-reduced-by-1billion-litres-in-seven-months-report/?amp

Yet, dollar continue to increase.
This shows the poor thinking of the people we elect to lead us. How can a serving government official be bold enough to say these shameful things? Where is the humanity in them? They know that inflation has diminished the buying power of our currency, make the government to earn more from subsidy removal and export of crude oil as well as reduced importation of finished products, yet they have not deemed it necessary to increase the pay and inject more money into programs to increases the earning of the citizens instead they share the money among the politicians and governors and the money will be stashed in foreign banks.

A government that have compassion will nit cripple the economy with no plans for the citizens and still boast of making more money. To what end is the money made when it did not translate to the economy being better for the citizens? I wish there is hope anywhere but its unfortunate that there is now. Now they blame everything and everyone except themselves for the collapse of everything that make Nigeria a nation.
324  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: February 22, 2024, 03:47:47 PM
@michelle, don't forget is a Bitcoin discussion thread, using the word crypto may implies including altcoins which is not included in the topic of discussion.
I think you are getting something wrong here. Bitcoin is the crypto itself. Every other coins you see today were built around bitcoin. Many people only know bitcoin when they hear the word crypto. There are people out there today who doesn't know that other coins exist, so when they hear about crypto the first thing that comes to their mind is bitcoin. Bitcoin is the crypto currency, if you are not aware of this know it today. If he had mentioned alt coins then you can say he is referring to other coins. So @Michelle is not talking out of point when he used the  word crypto. If you see a newbie that has no knowledge about bitcoin investment, ask him or her what is crypto, I bet you the person will mention bitcoin.
In the earlier part of this thread, if I'm not mistaken, I think @JayJuanGee stressed the need to avoid using the word "cryptocurrency" when generalizing Bitcoin and the other coins out there. The reason being that while many funny things have been done leveraging on cryptocurrency, Bitcoin have remained clean since inception and people tend to taint the image of Bitcoin whenever they unleash their clandestine plots. Therefore, such clarifications is important and we must make effort to make people understand that Bitcoin is different from whatever people promote under the guise of cryptocurrency with the intent to steal.

In addition, I don't think there is officially any word like "crypto" rather it was coined as an abbreviation for cryptocurrency. So instead of regarding Bitcoin as crypto, why not we just address it as Bitcoin which is by all standard more popular and acceptable to all!
325  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Risking 1% in Gambling on: February 22, 2024, 03:25:01 PM
It's quite reasonable that we will feel comfortable with losing 1% of our portfolio, this will apply if we have enough money, but if we have a little, it's not wrong to add no more than 5%. In my personal opinion, this is still relatively safe.
1% is indeed safe and certainly you won't notice the losses incase you are in bad streak. This is ideal for those who wants to try different games yet don't want to spend much or afraid to have huge losses.
It may sound all nice when you allocate percentages in this manner especially as it is small and seemingly insignificant. But what will actually determine the percentage risk is amount the gambler deposited. For instance, a gambler that deposited $10 may not risk 1% per bet as this will be far below his risk appetite. Conversely, a gambler with account balance of $100k may not risk up to 1% per set as this may also be way above his risk limit. So, the balance is an important factor of consideration in the risk. The key thing is knowing and understanding ones gambling strategy, knowing the risk to reward ratio and from there what percentage of the capital to risk so that one will not run out of balance.

But It depends for every gamblers since many of us probably don't want to waste our time (like those whale gamblers) using a small amount when playing especially if you're after profit. In my case, 5% of my day job salary is sufficient already to spend for leisure. IMO, regardless what percentage of your money is meant for gambling, as long as you'll be satisfied then that's what matter. Don't try to follow others who can spend more than what they can afford because often that's the start for someone to have a problem related to how they gamble.
I see a lot of sense in your response because I just realized that people who may not have time to gamble regularly can just play few times per week and allocate a good portion of their capital to the games. This is indeed another possibility provided the risk is bearable to the gambler.
326  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling for fun and not a way of making money on: February 22, 2024, 02:41:55 PM
No matter how you twist this, gambling for fun will never make sense to me because I do not see any fun gambling with my money. Assuming that there were fun in gambling, the fact that money is involved, emotions will be engaged and this will dissipate the fun. If we treat gambling as fun, we might become careless, not adhering strictly to rules and strategy made to ensure the gambler protect his capital and manage his winnings effectively. Therefore, I see gambler as a business which require that the gambler remained focused and disciplined. In addition, since it involves money, proper money management must be put in place so the gambler do not get carried away by fear, greed or a combination of both.
327  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: From the arrest of BDC operators to Binance and other crypto manipulating on: February 22, 2024, 09:55:26 AM
It's just funny how these men reason. BDCs are not illegal operations but operations backed by law and which work side by side with the banks and the CBN. Why then is this confused administrations attacking them? Are they responsible for the corruption and nepotism that have taken over our political space? Cryptocurrency is the last thing they would want to fight... if China could not stop her citizens, is it Nigeria that will, let's see how well they can do that.

The main cause of the problem is the excess printing of currency that Buhari did with Emefiele followed by the border closures. They borrowed excess money and loathed same, now they are looking for who to blame. They all use foreign goods including luxury cars yet are forcing ordinary Nigerians to eat local rice that are less competitive with imported rice.

Let them continue to be confused and even ban everything let's see if that will help the economy when nepotism and corruption still continue unabated.
328  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Wins: Your Money Was Returned to You. on: February 21, 2024, 09:53:22 AM
There have been saying that before you win a game in gambling, you would have lost enough funds and that means you didn't win any new or extra money to yourself but the casino return part of your money which you have lost before to you.
I do not believe this statement and there is no data to substantiate it. How will this even be possible when many gamblers that I know including myself was drawn into gambling because of winning my very first bet? Yes, my first ever gamble was a X150 win and that was how I started gambling till date.

And some will still say that what about those who have not playing gamble before and they won in their first day in gambling. Well those people newly converts to the gambling system will still dash the casino company that win again because the first time win is always to lure them to the system and making them to perpetual adoration to gamble. And I don't think someone in the gambling industry has as a win win gambling history.
Are you therefore suggesting that there is no way to win the casinos? Assuming you could point us to any data to validate these claims, then it would have made more sense rather than this emotional statements that depicts gambling as a way of throwing money away. As much as I know, people do win casinos, without which there will not be any business. The fast growth experience across the various casinos is linked to a balance of business between casino owners and the users even though the system is arguably designed to favor the casinos more.

And when I carefully look at the argument I also accept the assertion that what you win was part of your loss. Is that true? Make your input.
This is not true and can never be true. I know a lot of people that became wealthy by winning jackpot in the amount that supersede what they could possibly deposit into casinos.
329  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Couple won the jackpot but split soon after! on: February 21, 2024, 08:51:35 AM
Quote
A couple, who had been dating for a mere three months before they won an eye-watering $1.9 million dollars, split soon after.

Source: https://www.news.com.au/finance/money/wealth/lotto-war-i-won-19million-lotto-with-my-girlfriend-then-she-dumped-me-out-of-the-blue/news-story/c1f568efd16ff7f0aa0efe72652cabe5

Based on the situation of this couple, regardless of them being split soon after the winning, I think the best thing to do here is to cut the prize into half so that tensions between the two parties will de-escalate and avoid any confrontation or emotional turmoil and stress that sometimes end up so badly on both of them. Ego clash won't bear good results that is why we need to keep ourselves calm and fair with others especially in a situation like this.

Have you ever tried something like this situation before?
So what is your thoughts on this, 50/50 good for you or nah?
Will you insist to have an ego battle if you are on the same situation?
If your answer is yes then Why?
And if no then why not?
What are the things you would do to resolve the issue?
How do you think you can handle this kind of situation?
From the article, everything was going fine until perhaps someone talk to the girlfriend and everything changed. I'm not a lawyer to ascertain what is the best thing to do about this situation but from the angle of morality, I think the lady is being too greedy because the man suggested they buy the ticket, would have paid for it but he didn't go with his card, then he opted to transfer the funds to the partner which network denied them. The only input of the lady was using her card to pay of which she was to be refunded. Without the external interference, they would have proceeded with their initial plan of buying a house and a car for the lady. 50/50 is a fair deal for her only if the greed in her will allow it. I guess this is a good lesson for gamblers on the need to maintain privacy and confidentiality. I believe that gambling is an individual thing, and should be done independently to avoid situations like this.
330  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can we contribute accross local boards? on: February 21, 2024, 06:52:13 AM
Do not translate your post using a translator. If you can communicate in their language, you can post on their local board.
After seeing this response, a thought came into my head and that is the fact that I might just be bore one day and decide to visit one of the local boards just to see the way they are discussing and interacting. Maybe in the process of that I notice some threads with so much engagements and decide to use translator to follow what is being discussed. Assuming I have something to say or I want to ask for further clarifications from the participants of the discussion or I want to make a contribution that is relevant to the subject, what is am I expected to do? Can he respond in English or he should completely avoid joining the conversation because that is not his local board.
331  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin Spot ETF's Manipulate Bitcoin's price? on: February 21, 2024, 05:07:35 AM
The entrance of spot ETF into Bitcoin will, at some point, make Bitcoin similar to other stocks such as Dow Jones that are heavily manipulated through different mechanisms. We should not expect that big institutions are coming to play fair because they never have and never will.  What happened on the day of approval, where Bitcoin pumped to over $48k before going downhill within a short time, is a classical indication of what is possible when deep pockets enters the market.

Like many contributors has already said, owning real Bitcoin is still a preferred option.
332  Other / Off-topic / Re: All responses to anything I say should be automatically reported to a moderator. on: February 21, 2024, 04:28:15 AM
Nearly all of the responses I get to nearly everything that I say is incredibly offensive. This is because the people here are braindead sickos. Bitcoin attracts sickos because Bitcoin has a mining algorithm that was never designed to advance science. This means that nearly every response to everything I say needs to be looked at by a moderator because the garbage people on this site are horrible.

-Joseph Van Name Ph.D.
The moderators believe in Bitcoin and the underlying technology, they appreciate the input the minners make through the mining algorithm, so I doubt there is anything that can come out of reporting a user to the moderators that shares similar views as the moderators.

As a supposed expert, rather than attacking Bitcoin or the mining algorithm, it will help humanity more if you can improve on the lapses you noticed or offer a better alternative because the essence of science is to make life better.
333  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A famous influencer lost more than $4000 in just 2 minutes. (2) on: February 20, 2024, 07:00:24 PM
Even with a rich guy gambling, still has this regret he just made, so how much more for an average guy to take the risk of spending his hard earned money just to gamble?

Have you experienced this kind of situation wherein you spend huge amount of money and then regret after the loss? Is your reaction the same with that guy on the video?

Was the money he used his own money or sponsored by the casino? if it was his own money there would be a lot of regrets, but if it was money from the casino he was promoting then it wouldn't be a problem.

If he was paid to promote a casino, then this video will not be released for public consumption as it does not attracted more people to gambling rather it send fears to gamblers by telling them what could possibly happen to them over some careless mistakes.

Also from his reaction, one can easily tell that it was his money that he lost. He should accept his loss and move on.

Failure to follow the rules of risk management comes with huge prices just like this case. Do not gamble with what you cannot afford to lose
334  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Drop your trusted game for the week and let boom together 🥳🥳🥳 on: February 20, 2024, 06:40:00 PM
Seems not much people are courageous enough to drop their prediction even when it is obvious it was not a financial advice but just a prediction with nothing guaranteed. That being said, I thing Manchest City match against Brentford will produce upto 4 goals so I think over3.5 @1.87 odds is my prediction. Like I stated before, it's a ordinary prediction which can either work or fail, so users should play responsibly.
335  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: February 20, 2024, 05:27:36 PM
Manchester City is playing their missing match today and the matches will be tied at 25. Manchester City lost their secret leader title after drawing with Chelsea. Even if they win this match, they will not be able to get to the 1st place. This match is very suitable to start a new series after the ending winning streak. Brentford are a team that has conceded a goal in 15 of their last 16 matches and has serious problems in terms of defence. City has no missing players in the squad other than Grealish and Gvardiol. Manchester City will win this match. Sportsbooks gave very low odds. The option of winning by at least 2 goals can be considered for better odds.

Manchester City have had a busy schedule recently because they have to catch up on their match deficit, starting with the first leg of the UCL match against Copenhagen, then Chelsea 4 days after and the upcoming match with Brentford. Even though their schedule is busy, the bookies still give them small odds, so far they have got @1.17 on Rollbit.

Since they really need 3 points here to keep up with Arsenal and Liverpool in the PL title race, I think they will win, not sure they can get a win with a 2 goal difference but at least they will get 3 points.
Manchester City do not have any reason not to win tonight against Brentford. Everything is to their advantage and they truly need the winning to close in on Arsenal that just displaced them from the third position following their new found winning strategy. Furthermore, a win tonight will bring Manchester City closer to Liverpool that is currently at the top of the league and they will be 2 points apart. This shows that Pep Guardiola will do everything within his powers to secure the 3 points tonight.

However, a little look at past meetings between Manchester City and Brentford will show that the later defeated the former home and away last season.  Two incidence that sent shockwaves accross the global football pundits. To avoid a repeat of that, Manchester City took it upon themselves to defeat Brentford by 3 goals to 1 in their first leg this season. I guess tonight might just be a repeat of that even with more goals.
336  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: February 20, 2024, 03:01:06 PM
Look at how Inter play their home matches. In the last five matches they have conceded only one goal. Their defence is very strong and I don't think Atletico can win today. Maybe they can draw, but I think Inter are favourites today. In general, it is difficult to predict anything before this match.
The match between Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid is a very difficult match to predict. Both are top teams and have been formidable in their respective leagues. The last two times they met saw them winning each of the matches, further confirming the fact that they are down to a tight match tonight. By record, Inter Milan seems to be a better side and looking at their recent history, their morale is superb and they are enjoying a remarkable winning spree. They have conceded only 2 goals in their last 6 matches, winning all of them whereas Atletico have conceded 4 goals, lost 2 matches and drawing 1. With this it is obvious that the Italian side are playing with high spirit and likely to overpower the Spanish side. I will not be surprised if Inter Milan humbles Atletico Madrid tonight.
337  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: February 19, 2024, 09:35:36 PM
Are you serious about this? yes, I like bitcoin but in my risk management calculations, bitcoin has high risk and the price is too volatile, it will bring big risk when I need funds suddenly, I don't want to sell my bitcoin when the price is low because of sudden need so having other investments that are stable is certainly important

Having other assets is also a preventative step so that we don't rush to sell our bitcoins when there is an urgent need
Aside Bitcoin there are other physical investment that could be worth our money especially when a person has enough resources to meet up his Bitcoin investment and the alternate investment.
We understand that there are other investment portfolios that one could consider outside Bitcoin but the truth is that our focus here is Bitcoin and how to make the most of it. There is therefore no basis for this comparison because even the forum is Bitcoin focused. Instead of the comparison, we could channel the energy on how to collect more Bitcoin as the future is already looking so bright.

Bitcoin would give profit same with the other but in the case of Bitcoin likely as you said, may not be able to get the opportunity of collecting back your profit at the right time at which it is needed due to the market experiencing a dip.
We are not actually considering investment for quick profits like trading which is what your post sounds like. As the title of the thread said, we are discussing long term investment and in that aspect, the dip is seen as an opportunity to buy more for those using lump sum or collect more Bitcoin for the same dollar value for those using the DCA method. Whatever be the case, a long term investor is not really perturbed by price fluctuations or dips because every market condition is an opportunity to accomplish something.
338  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: February 19, 2024, 09:04:26 PM
I get that Milan could be inconsistent at times, but we are talking about a team that should be able to beat Monza at least. Sure they could lose to better teams and I would be fine, not saying just Juventus or Inter, but Atalanta or Lazio as well. However, they should be able to beat Monza, that is not a good team at all, just makes no sense to me.

I believe that we are going to end up with a world that has to be accepting that Milan just dropped the ball so to speak. They could have been second place and take over Juventus, and not like Juventus is doing alright neither, they are doing terrible so it would have been a smart way to approach it, and instead it ended up being not so great for Milan neither, a shame really.
Inter Milan proven to be the top team competitive for the scudetto, they have drawn but not giving to keep ranking first on the Seria A league table.
The last time we saw such a great performance from Inter Milan was during the time of Jose Mourinho. They are 9 points ahead of struggling Juventus even with an outstanding match which if won will give them 12 points clear. Sincerely, the level of competition for the top spot of Serie A this year is quite disappointing. At the early stages of the league, AC Milan was in the chase for the title but all of a sudden the backslide and are even struggling to keep up with the pace of the league.

If the present trend is sustained, then Inter Milan will win the league with ease because everything has aligned in their favor. They have a strong defending and attacking force which make them score many goals while conceding just few. This is what is expected of a team that is determined to lift the trophy.

339  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Premier League 2023/2024 Discussion Thread ⚽ on: February 19, 2024, 08:26:51 PM
Everton had some strong performances in the last few games, despite not having favorable results. It seems Sean Dyche has instilled his coaching methods to improve the team and the players. Gaining one point in each game against Aston Villa, Fulham and Tottenham is evident to their improvement. Their demonstrated determination and tactics that can certainly give them an edge in the upcoming match.

Crystal Palace, although considered the weaker team in this matchup, may capitalize on opportunities or utilize strategic gameplay to challenge Everton and potentially secure a surprise victory. But predicting a favorable outcome for Everton seems reasonable given their form and recent performances. While Everton may be favored to win based on their current form, bettors need to approach the game with an open mind and considerations for the dynamics of competitive sports.
By head to head analysis of the recent meetings, Crystal Palace have not won Everton for once, the best result they got was a goalless draw. Everton have maintained a good winning record against them. By recent performance, Everton is also doing far better than Crystal Palace who seems to be far better at home than away. Indeed Crystal Palace have not won any match away since we entered this new year. Going by that record, Everton will have an edge over Palace tonight. The bookies seems to be in agreement with this hence they gave Everton 1.8 odds and Crystal Palace 5 odds. However, I consider direct win a high risk since both of them are fighting to come out from the relegation zone. Therefore, Everton win or draw should be a more conservative bet for this match.
340  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How safe is it letting the bank know that you are a BTC Investor? on: February 18, 2024, 03:40:26 PM
Bitcoin investor is not an occupation and the customer care representative needs to input the right information into the system, so that's what prompted the question. There are many things you could have written on the form like student, businessman, civil servant etc, but why BTC investor? Which to me looks like a show off.
It is just obvious that the bank officer is a little not experienced in that interrogation else she would have asked you the source of the funds you invested in Bitcoin. You cannot answer an investor without a source of funds because you need money to perform an investment.

Calling himself a Bitcoin investor was funny and a unprofessional and he really ignored several risks in that response. In some countries, such answers will draw so much attention to his account and activities. There was a time such response will lead to outright  closure of the account in my country. Then you just to mention Bitcoin or cryptocurrecy in the comments of ant financial transaction and your account is doomed.
