321  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which countries don't have coastlines? on: August 03, 2014, 01:12:40 PM
Mongolia is the one that first came to mind. Not sure why.

Here is a link to a map that shows all the countries in the world:

http://www.thinksnaps.com/wallpapers-world-map-x-2560x1440-2312093-world-map/

Some I can see that don't have coastlines are Chad, Hungary, and Laos.

And here is a Wikipedia article about landlocked countries (and a list of them which includes the four I already mentioned):

322  Other / Meta / Re: what does [ANN] mean? on: August 03, 2014, 05:11:06 AM
Mostly [ANN] means somebody made a new shitalt-coin.

It's not always an altcoin. You could make an [ANN] thread for a new exchange, or a service, or a gambling site, etc. Just as long as it's an announcement of some sort.
323  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]MULTICOIN丨X11丨MC丨First Multi Signature Coin | Multi Coin - Multi Vote on: August 03, 2014, 05:07:39 AM
Glad to see that the dev is back and this thread is back on track.

Also interesting to see that the first option is currently leading. But with a block reward of 400 coins per block and 10,000 blocks, wouldn't that be the same thing as 4 million coins? Since 400 multiplied by 10,000 is 4,000,000? So how does the second option differ from the first?
324  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Brief intro video to Huntercoin (HUC) on: August 03, 2014, 04:53:38 AM
Looks good, but didn't the original dev die a few months ago? Who is developing the coin now?
325  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why so many planes crashing/disappearing recently? on: July 24, 2014, 12:45:06 PM
Hmm... Three major plane crashes in the space of a week is indeed quite bizarre.

Not counting the super stealth plane that disappeared somewhere near Malasya last year and still no clue about what happened.

That happened this year too. Not last year. March 8 was the date. It was definitely unprecedented for a modern jet to simply vanish without a trace. Nothing found on the sea floor and no wreckage spotted or washed up. Very odd.
326  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just received a lot of core I7 computers, what to do next ?? on: July 24, 2014, 12:34:11 PM
what do the next would be sell them on ebay and purchase bitcoins with the proceeds

Well I don't think the computers are actually his so he probably can't sell them.

Actually he could probably sell them and replace them with celerons but that would be ripping off the school. Grin

EDIT/DISCLAIMER: DON'T DO THIS OP!!!
327  Other / Politics & Society / Re: JUST IN: Air Algerie loses contact with plane over Africa on: July 24, 2014, 10:53:03 AM
Seriously, again?

Let's hope this one doesn't turn out to be yet another crash. Sad

It's 11:50 am in Algiers. The plane was supposed to land at 5:10 am. I think it probably already crashed. Sad
328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Karpeles Auctions off Bitcoins.com on: July 24, 2014, 07:31:17 AM
Although it would be strictly a business decision if you were to be considering purchasing this domain, I think people should not support him and refuse to pay for something that would be profitable for him.

Umm... I thought the proceeds of the auction would be going to the victims of Mt. Gox. It would be awesome if someone like Bill Gates bought the domain for $500 million. Then everyone who lost money in Mt. Gox would have all their BTC back.
329  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: July 20, 2014, 03:49:07 AM
1 cent per satoshi would be good. Of course 1 million per bitcoin seems insane, bitcoin will need to have a massive market cap to become a large form of currency. Currently the market cap with 21 million bitcoins would be 14 million dollars at a price of 676, which is very small for billionares, and imagine if the total cash in the world would be 14 million dollars. It needs to be big enough that it would be impossible to hold a large percentage of it.
21 million bitcoins would be 14 billion one hundred ninety-six million at a price of 676.
There are not 21 million bitcoin in existence right now. It will be several decades until it will become anywhere close to that.

It will actually take hundreds of years to mine the last million bitcoin because of the way block subsidies half

I thought Bitcoin would be fully mined by 2140:

Quote from: Bitcoin.it
The last block that will generate coins will be block #6,929,999 which should be generated at or near the year 2140. The total number of coins in circulation will then remain static at 20,999,999.9769 BTC.

Even if the allowed precision is expanded from the current 8 decimals, the total BTC in circulation will always be slightly below 21 million (assuming everything else stays the same). For example, with 16 decimals of precision, the end total would be 20,999,999.999999999496 BTC.
330  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: July 19, 2014, 08:37:33 PM
Maybe we see a day when a satoshi will be worth $10.... hehe... :p

If 1 satoshi = 1 cent, then 1 BTC = $1 million. Bitcoin market cap = $21 trillion.
If 1 satoshi = $10, then 1 BTC = $1 billion. Bitcoin market cap = $21 quadrillion.
WOW mate Come back to reality , as of now we are floating around 610$-620$ /btc mark , I hope that we reach 1K$ mark that's the only reasonable mark that bitcoin can hit in upcoming few months

Yeah, $10 (at today's USD value) per satoshi is obviously impossible. 1 cent per satoshi is probably the absolute maximum upper limit that is still possible.

If your content is good, then SEO isn't really that important. People will flock to it anyway. I own a couple of blogs and forums and before I installed anti-spam measures on both, I used to get tons of spammers spamming backlinks to their SEO services, backlinks of their customers' websites, etc. That made me despise the SEO industry, their crappy marketing, and their shady techniques for good. They are the parasites of the web, and their no. 1 goal is to propel subpar shit to the first page of Google's search results at the expense of those who truly deserve it. No way would I want to associate with that crap.
332  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: SLOOOOWWWWWWWWWW btc today on: July 19, 2014, 08:01:28 PM
I would expect 1 confirmation every 10 minutes on average so 4 in 30 minutes is quite good. Sometimes it takes miners an hour to find a block, sometimes it takes a minute.

334  Other / Off-topic / Re: Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. WTF? on: July 19, 2014, 07:39:43 AM
MH17 crashed on the 17th of July.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence but it's a very strange one indeed.
335  Other / Off-topic / Re: iPhone 6 Sapphire Crystal Display! on: July 18, 2014, 09:53:47 AM
The iPhone 4 and 4S have tiny screens (3.5"). Only the cheapest "toy" smartphones designed for little kids (<$60) have screens smaller than that. Totally unacceptable for a high-end phone. At 4", the iPhone 5 is better - but not by much. 4" is what I would expect to find in a budget smartphone or a low-end mid range phone.

The next generation iPhone should must have a 4.5" screen at the very minimum in order to be competitive in the smartphone market. I don't claim to be an expert, but I think this is obvious. No other smartphone manufacturer has a phone with a 4" screen as their flagship model.

Yes, there will be a few people who dislike larger screens but it's impossible to deny that larger screens is where the industry is heading. It's what the people want. Apple could do what Samsung has always done and what they have recently done with their iPad. That is, they could launch and maintain a separate "iPhone Mini" version. In fact, this wouldn't be too far a radical departure from their current cheaper model, the iPhone 5C.

So yeah, Apple. If you are reading this then please consider my advice. I am sure that most people here would agree.
336  Other / Off-topic / Re: Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. WTF? on: July 18, 2014, 09:41:45 AM
No way is Malaysia Airlines going to be able to survive after this and MH370. The company hasn't been profitable since 2011, apparently. I feel sorry for them because looking at online reviews and photos, they don't seem like a bad airline.

I woke up this morning to hear news about a Malaysia Airlines plane that had crashed. At first, I thought they were talking about MH370. Like a new development in the search or something. Never would I have imagined that another plane by the same airline would crash in the same year. What a strange and tragic coincidence.
337  Other / Off-topic / Re: Just won BTCbanc and BTCbanq on: July 18, 2014, 09:32:38 AM
Btcbanc and Btcbanq are nice, but I would have preferred Btcbank or perhaps Bitcoinbank.
338  Other / Off-topic / How are people able to make charts/diagrams/infographics so quickly? on: July 18, 2014, 08:45:03 AM
Several hours after the MH17 plane crashed, there were news articles already coming out with very fancy-looking and sophisticated charts/diagrams/infographics. My question is, how are people able to create these so quickly and still have them look so professional and well-made?

Examples of what I'm talking about:

340  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This banker tricks us to do away with deflationary nature of bitcoin! on: July 16, 2014, 08:02:29 AM
This banker from ING first applauds bitcoin , but then says that the flutations are the main hurdle for bitcoin to go mainstream.

In order to get much stability he urges bitcoin developers to develop algorithm which we all love that is to get rid of the 21 million cap and become infinitely inflationary like the Fed's toilet papers.

He lures, a developer to implement this algorithm would even get Nobel prize.

This is sad and bad..this idea has to be stopped right at the very beginning.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79H4CVq__NM#t=20
The fed? Dude! Why the heck are you arguing with it! The fed is always right!

~~For those of you who can't tell, the above statement is sarcasm~~

Inflation is the last thing we need. In case anyone has looked at Dogecoin, the price has been on a continual downwards spiral since the beginning. I don't want to see BTC dropping from $640 down to $2. Plus the difficulty is so high, mining would cease instantly. There would be NO way to get an ROI with such a high difficulty, and so mining would cease nearly instantly and there would be huge issues.

If the devs listen to him, I'm dropping my BTC holdings into another coin, I'll be so mad I'll just drop it instantly.

There IS no Nobel Prize for this! Why the hell does Dogecoin not have one then! They used this before it was advice, and where is their golden plauqe?

Ignore this wish-wash banker and keep with what we have. Anything else will wreck Bitcoin, wreck cryptos, and allow the Fed to tighten their grip on us. Educate without being to complex!

Well said. Dogecoin was also the first thing that came to my mind when I read OP's post. If he doesn't like the way Bitcoin's protocol works, then he should either launch his own altcoin or use dogecoins instead. The latter seems like the perfect crypto for his needs.

Doge coin is desperately in need of a fix to the protocol. Until then no one outside of the hard core users will take it seriously.

If you mean the infinite 10k rewards, there is nothing to fix, it's a feature.

I believe it was actually supposed to be deflationary in the long term, just like Bitcoin but there was a bug in the code that made it perpetually inflationary. There was quite a bit of discussion during the beginning of this year about whether or not the bug should be fixed, but ultimately it was decided to keep things as is.
