Why bother with escrow on a PayPal transaction?  How does escrow help?

PayPal is not safe for exchange with bitcoin unless the person paying with PayPal is trusted.  Escrow does not solve that problem, and if the person is already trusted enough to accept PayPal from them, then escrow does not provide anything usefull.

An option within PayPal is to send as Friend/Family or Gift, which makes chargebacks more difficult without jeopardizing the status of the account. I'm going on the assumption that this is how the PayPal transaction will be sent. By offering escrow, we're effectively filtering out one type of scammer -- the ones who get the buyer to send first as F/F or Gift and then disappear once the funds are sent. That leaves the buyer with the only option of claiming a compromised account to get his money back, which can sometimes results in a perma-banned account.

The sender could then login to his Paypal account from a VPN and send the payment as gift, when he would later logon into the account from his real IP and he would request to reverse the transaction and Paypal would reverse it no questions asked. Just got to be aware of that.

I am looking to buy 0.42BTC with Paypal, have already done so twice on this forum, trusted member.

It was only a matter of time before the FBI found out that bitcoins blockchain can be traced.
This may be good news since there is nothing holding bitcoins back from becoming mainstream anymore.
Meanwhile anoncoin and/or megacoin will take over the underground.

BTC was traced months after it was invented, by the time mt. gox got big real identities were already linked to bitcoin addressess....

Speculative investors aren't exactly good for Bitcoin so I think that we should all be happy that they are too stupid to understand Bitcoin.

339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Babysitting Bitcoin users on: September 29, 2013, 11:06:39 PM
If Bitcoin ever gets mainstream and replaces the fiat/debt system who will protect the people from being stupid? Even with all the precautions and arbitrary limits that the debt system sets for added security the average person who isn't aware of computer security can still easily compromise his account (it is especially obvious since fiat accounts with tens of thousands of dollars are sold on the deepnet).

Elitism? Natural selection anyone?
