321  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Trustworthy Mixing services? on: October 30, 2017, 01:40:28 PM
Are there any trustworthy mixing services as a few searches have yielded very few results.
Bitmixer was trusted, but they are closed now. I'm not sure who to trust now. What I recommend as a way of mixing your coins is transfering your BTC to exchange and purchasing monero. Send monero to your wallet A from wallet A send to another exchange and purchase Bitcoin there. Your new coins should be untraceable.
322  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mother in law asked me about something called bitcoil :) on: October 29, 2017, 09:29:14 PM
Well, I was giving a mother in law a ride to work and in car she asked me if I've ever herd of something called bitcoil? Bitcoil? No I haven't what is that? Well apperantly it was something she was watching on ElJezzera about digital currency and how people could buy that and how it all worked out... Ahhh you mean Bitcoin ? YES YES that's what it is... How can i buy some?

SO I guess bitcoin is here to stay folks Smiley

Many people are buying BTC because they heard they could profit off it but don't have a clue how its working or what it's for.
323  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-10-27] Algerian Government Eyes Total Ban on Cryptocurrencies on: October 29, 2017, 09:08:29 PM
I'd say it does not really matter. I don't think many people in Algeria are using Cryptocurrencies anyway. Ban on them wont cnahge anything and its a stupid move anyway.
324  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: why 74k unconfirmed transaction ? on: October 29, 2017, 08:44:14 PM
All these issues arising doesn't really make bitcoin decentralized, if fiat currencies has to be dependent on Government regulations and we ran to bitcoin, then Miners become controllers, are we not going round in circles?

The high difficulty mainly has to do with miners jumping over to Bcash when it is more profitable, but I agree with your stance that this is leading to a centralization of the network. This all goes back to when BTC became ASIC mine-able and one company took the lead in production of ASIC miners. Now they barely sell to the general public preferring instead to mine with their equipment until such point the profits start to sink. Then they will sell off this older equipment passing it off as new to the eager public, who then may only get a few months useful life out of it. It is almost the perfect racket, yet everyone seems fine with it.

BTC developers had a chance a long time ago to switch to a more ASIC resistant algorithm but for some reason chose instead to centralize this power into the hands of a few which is frankly causing most of the current day problems. GPU mine-able coins, such as Ethereum, do not see such sudden losses of hash power. Indeed, people do switch to more profitable coins, but since the hash power is more even spread out the swings are not as sudden and violent as they are with the more concentrated mining power of Bitcoin.

Certain gropus are pumping BCH with that in mind they are currently succeeding  as we can see and we have large number of unconfirmed transactions
325  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When Can Bitcoin Be Mainstream? on: October 29, 2017, 08:34:18 PM
We need higher market cap. Price is changing too much at this point in order for btc to be adopted widely. No one wants to use currency that is chanign rapidly every few minutes for small transactions.

You rigs are way to expensive. You take too much fee for making them. For example 3500$ for 6x GTX 1060. ROI for that is about 2 years (with decent electricity price of  0.06$ per kWh). That's not profitable for anyone really...
327  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoins for Dummies on: October 29, 2017, 02:43:13 PM
Dear Bitcoin Friends,

I just started and bought some cryptocurrency. I wonder why BTC should be chosen above other cc's as XRP of ETH. Is is better to spread my 'real' money over few cc's or should i buy BTC only?

If you don't know what coin to chose for your investment better not to invest at all. Don't read speculations etc because they are mostly bullshit. It's best to do your own research and invest in what you think will succeed. BTC should always be your number one investment, and you invest small portions of money into other coins.
328  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Copay and SegWit Support on: October 29, 2017, 01:38:00 PM
Hi all, I had bit expectation about Copay and its planned SegWit support.
Turns out they have BCH as a priority over SegWit support.

Quote
We support Bitcoin, and most of the work we do (by FAR) is related to Bitcoin.

We are now in the process of developing a new UI (Copay V4) and that is our main priority. We think segwit support is not as critical as to interrupt our current developments. On the other hand, hundreds of thousands of users had BCH in Copay and enabling them to access to them, easily, (given the financial implications) was critical.

We are now testing a new version of Insight-api that will have better support for segwit and we expect to release it soon (it is a complete rewrite of insight-api), so some progress is been made in that front.

I understand your frustration, but we have tons of things to work and we try to prioritize them the way we think are more relevant to our users.

Undecided maybe it is time to move on to another wallet. Samourai maybe?

Time will tell

Well they just want to give their users their BCH. It's a right move on my opinion and they stated We are now testing a new version of Insight-api that will have better support for segwit and we expect to release it soon so that means they work on it too. Not sure why would you want to move on to another wallet.
329  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I get some tips or suggestions on GPU for mining? Budget varied on: October 29, 2017, 01:32:35 PM
Hello,

I am fairly new to mining but interested in building my own rig.

i have been looking into cloud mining but not sure i have found a legitimate one or at least 1 that is known to produce and profit.

I have seen a 6gpu design for a rig and its more than likely what I am aiming for, however I have also read that its best to start with just 2 or 3 GPU and increase it if I am able to profit from them.

I have seen many GPU been thrown around, mostly GTX 1070 and 1060
as well as some R 4xx series.

Realistically my budget isn't too high however i dont mind waiting patiently to build a good rig if it takes a few .

The budget i am working with is $1000, preferably if possible to stay under $500 but if need be and I have to sit patiently and wait, i can push it to $1500

Is there anyone that has been able to build a profitable rig for under $500? or $1000?

Of course I am not expecting to make a whole lot if a $500 is doable but just something I can show the wife to get a bigger budget approved lol

Friendly advice, don't go into mining if you can't afford 6 GPUs. If you start with 2-3 and plan to upgrade with profits, it will take much more time and it won't be as profitable. Most people don't take into account that mining profits with certain GPU fall over time.
330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is Bitcoin Core ? on: October 29, 2017, 01:30:29 PM
Currently, there are four versions of Bitcoin, but the most popular are Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin Classic.

Depends what is considered to be version of Bitcoin. There are many forks (Bitcoin Classic is a fork) so I don't really see why there would be only four "major" versions of Bitcoin. There are much more.
331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SegWit transactions on: October 29, 2017, 01:26:25 PM
I noticed that too.  I suppose it could be part of the reason why there's been more unconfirmed transactions and slower transaction times over the past few days.
Maybe an entity like Bitmain initially pumped the number of Segwit transactions on the network (just like they do with spam), to build the perception of a decline in adoption as we head into the Segwit2x fork?
Seems unlikely.  If they were doing that then they would directly have been sending spam transactions.  Not sending spam transactions anymore would surely decrease the amount of congestion, so it would have to be a pretty complicated and well orchestrated attack which I don't see any evidence of.

I can't personally find any major services that have stopped taking SegWit transactions, and the ones I'm using still are, so it's certainly odd.  I can't think of any explanation though.

I think it's more likely than major service dropping SegWit. After all we would have heard about it and users would notice anyways. Someone would post something.
332  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-10-29]Samsung Builds Bitcoin Mining Rig Using Old Phones on: October 29, 2017, 12:05:32 PM
Just look at hashrates new phones with Snapdragon 835 are getting. It's not even close to profitable. I don't see why would anyone purchase that old phone for even 50$ when no profit can be made (in a normal time, eventually I guess you will profit from it)
333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Cash - why up on: October 28, 2017, 07:47:39 PM
Bitcoin Cash is one of best altcoins with good future. Although, all of coins had been distributed for free, it didn't dead and it can be very profitable. I expect the price to rise very much. But I don't know what is the reason of current price rise.

I don't see how it have good future ? It's copy paste of bitcoin with changed settings. Copies are never going to be as good as original that's a fact.
334  Economy / Services / Re: [BOUNTY] Information leading to the arrest of Ethereum thief on: October 28, 2017, 07:46:04 PM
I shall give $100 in Bitcoin to whomever can provide information leading to the arrest of owner(s) of Ethereum address 0x89474953d6bC8275B88e331fDf1A92d552563712 This address stole Ethereum and tokens from me.

I don't think what you are asking is possible. If you are looking for arrest you must have reported the issue to the police. I don't see large incoming transfers in the last few days so I'm not sure how much he stole from you (if he even did) but police won't bother with small amounts.
335  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-10-28] Bitcoin Helped This Australian Pay off His House Mortgage on: October 28, 2017, 07:40:54 PM
I don't understand why is something like this news.

I am more like -- I don't understand why someone would publicly share this with the entire world.... It's basically the same with how miraculously articles with people pop up stating that the coins they bought at a few cents a piece are now worth millions. If I was in such a position, I would never share these kind of things with anyone, let alone with whatever news site. If it's true I am happy for that person, but I highly doubt the legitimacy of these articles. At least it's something hinting at a positive (whether it's true or not) happening, and that's the good thing we get out of this -- it might be a motivational push for people in the end.

Exactly. Problem with having large bitcoin purchases is tax. I would never share if I made a purchase with BTC because most likely I won't pay tax  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes
336  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: This New Bitcoin Could Totally Change the Game on: October 28, 2017, 06:39:47 PM
Bullshit coin. In their whitepaper they just say they will do it, they will not allow ransoms, terrorist etc but there is not a single statement on HOW are they planning to do it. And if you think  from technical point of view, how could they even differentiate fraudulent transaction from innocent one ?
337  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Wallet SUCKS Be Warned, Do NOT Order One on: October 28, 2017, 06:33:20 PM
And im not trying to make myself feel better about posting this or damage Trezors reputation...

Im trying to tell people that these wallets suck so they dont waste their money on them...

I don't think their reputation will be damaged by high trusted member account on bitcointalk... I know 20+ people who have purchased Trezor (me included) and one had problem same as you. USB port on his PC. He simply tired plugging it to another port and it worked normally.
338  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Two Desktop Wallets on: October 28, 2017, 06:27:20 PM
Is it okay to install two desktop wallets in one PC? I mean is there a security concerns if one does that? Or there will be no problem if I do that, two different wallet software in one desktop will work well separately on one PC?

By desktop wallet I guess you mean wallet software. You can have as many of them as you want and it wouldn't be a problem. It's like installing multiple computer programs. They are not conflicting with each other.
339  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Should I buy 2 nanos? on: October 28, 2017, 06:24:42 PM
Huge amounts? Depends on your definition of huge. A nano s is less than €100 shipped. If you currently have more than €200 worth of crypto, it's probably worth getting a hardware wallet... At that point, you're effectively storing more than the device is worth.

Considering most people spend more than that on iPhones and Samsung Galaxy's and laptops, I don't think it's too much to consider paying for the peace of mind and convenience without sacrificing security.

Not sure a second is mandatory... But it will help with secure recovery should one be lost/stolen/damaged.

Don't even really need a second for storing alt coins... You just need to uninstall/reinstall the different apps. One seed used for all wallet apps, so wallets and Coins aren't "lost" when doing this. Just inaccessible until you reinstall the appropriate app
Well, laptops and smartphones have both more utility and more technology stashed away in them, so it's only natural that they would be more expensive.

I wouldn't really bother with a hardware wallet for only $200 or even $2000 either, since it's easy to keep coins safe if you're careful and multiplying the coins is more lucrative due to the very low risk of losing them. With a stash worth tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands I would definitely get a hardware wallet though. And in the millions probably two and stash one away in a safe.

I don't agree with you. For anything larger than 1000$ I would get hardware wallet. Most people lose their private keys and seeds with desktop wallets and online wallets are definitely not safe.

I don't understand why is something like this news. People are investing in BTC every day and buying stuff because of BTC profits every day. Why should mortgage be special ?
