For small purchases, accepting at 0 confirmations is low-risk.
We can say that, but the risk is there. Certainly it's far greater than cash. And I'd wager to say that even if so far the accepting transactions with 0 confirmations has been low-risk, it won't be for much longer. Bad characters will enter and take advantage. It's happened with every other system, no reason to believe it won't happen here, unfortunately. Think about it - accepting a confirmation with 0 confirmations amounts to "please give my your product, I'll come back and pay for it in a few minutes". Most street vendors aren't open to that. Most gas stations aren't open to that either. Nor should we expect that they should be open to that. Without any confirmations there's no way to verify if there is any value to the transaction. It's more like accepting a personal check that you can redeem in 10 minutes or so, but yes, there is a little bit of risk. Honestly, I've always preferred bullion/coins for face-to-face transactions. Bitcoin just doesn't lend itself well to in-person commerce, at least, not as well as other currencies do.

I'd try to explain the difference between being distantly related to a King, and actually having the powers and authority of a King, but I'm relatively sure it would be a waste of time. So I'll make it simple, and just modify my original statement thus: The President is far from a dictator, anyway... very little of the budget can actually be laid at his feet.

They don't take credit cards. So they likely don't have computers set up at their locations? Or they simply enjoy the security of receiving cash in hand. Bitcoin can't replicate that - they need computers at their locations, and they need their customers to stick around for a few minutes to get some confirmations that their spends are accepted by the network. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet&hl=enFor small purchases, accepting at 0 confirmations is low-risk.

Let me explain. FirstAscent seems to have Asperger syndrome, and the particular form his takes is movies. Some aspies love trains, some love horses, some love computers. But whatever the object of obsession is, they assume everyone has, or, by god, should have, that same obsession. Everyone should love the same things they do, and to the same degree, and anyone who doesn't, is wrong. He literally can't understand why you don't feel the same way about that movie that he does.
I take it you two are well acquainted ? Quite well. I'm no headshrinker, so I'm not qualified to diagnose him, but I do know a few aspies (the trains and horses, respectively), and I recognize the symptoms. And I know it's pointless to argue with them in their bailiwick. Or even disagree. Just nod and smile.

Oh dear, I didn't said it was a bad movie, I said it was depressing.

I never meant to imply killing anyone.
I meant to substitute hacking for killing and websites for people.
Same concept in general except no killing involved.
That's my point. You're still committing unethical acts. It's the same, flawed concept, in a vain attempt to fix a flawed system. There's a much better system, that doesn't require assassination, or hacking, or DDoSing to keep agencies from overstepping their bounds, and allows you to get the services you need. The best part is, this system is already in place, and we just need to let it work.

|
|
Lol, no one suggested killing anyone!
Maybe you need to look up what the word "assassination" means. Nobody's suggested hacking/DDoSing Apple because of a flaw in iOS, either.

People don't always have the same meanings for words. Arguing about definitions is semantic bullshit. / That was a bad post and you should feel bad.
Words matter. If we can't agree on the definition of words, communication becomes impossible. This is not true, we can have plentiful and meaningful meta discussion. If I strain to replace your "capitalism" with "free market," I can avoid earing my hair out every time I get on here until I can convince you to acknowledge the connotations and unavoidable trappings of that word. That would be true if you wanted those products and services in the first place.
Governments do indeed provide necessary services. Poorly, inefficiently, and whether their "customers" want to get those services from them or not.... But I'm not going to deny that they do provide services to people. But nobody suggests assassinating the CEO of Apple because the most recent iOS sucked.

We need to have a feature where users can have live chat ON The forums not irc.
We recently had to get rid of the user list because it was too processor intensive. Somehow, I don't see this feature gaining much traction.

If you have to commit unethical acts to keep an organization in check, maybe it might be wise to seek a different way to provide those services that the organization provides.

God, that's the second request to add stakes. You guys are like a bunch of poker players. "It's no fun unless it's for real money." I just think it would make the game more "honest," and thus more worthy of study. Maybe one of these weekends I'll make a website for it. In later games, I'm going to introduce variations that will attempt to encourage defecting, including trying to start a "war." It seems rather rude to make people pay for that. On the contrary, in fact, I think if the only consequences are in-game, that will result in a clearer result in the end, when I add in the final variation to try and clear up the conflict. Remember that we're modeling the real world, and in the real world, there are no "meta-consequences." Adding such a meta-consequence would, in effect, be modeling the supposition that "religion X is true, and Y behavior will result in a reward in the afterlife." While certainly people act as though that were true in real life, modeling behavior without that incentive would result in an even clearer result. If you want to make a website for it, and add stakes, that's fine. But, could you let the pure game play out, first?

the problem in capitalism is that when you have big amounts of money its way easier to earn for a living than having none or little. and much more options.
Well, that's a "problem" with the nature of reality. The more resources you have, the more options you have to increase those resources. Of course, that coin has an opposite side that hardly anyone ever actually looks at: The more resources you have, the easier it is to help your fellowman voluntarily. Think about it. Isn't it more likely that a man with 100 coats is going to hand over one without the gun in his face, than the man with only two? That doesn't make stealing the coat from the man with 100 any better than stealing from the man with 2, and worse, it makes it counterproductive. It makes the man with 100 want to resist giving to the man with no coat, because it's being done by force.

"Societies are communities". Here you can see, what kind of bullshit we 'learn' in the dictionaries of the authority. I agree with @blablahblah.
Well, if you want to continue to define words however you feel like, I see no point in continuing a conversation with you. Have a nice day. Yes, my language is not the perverted patriarchal language of the authority. It is an anarchal language. Have also a nice day! Glock elbow watermelon Chinese macaroni chicken?
