321  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Radeon 7970 ASIC Quality / Quality-%-Matching Multi-Card Rigs on: June 04, 2012, 01:32:41 AM

Hashing with the cash at 30C has given me a huge increase in MH/J

How much do you think is the gain in MH/J with water cooling?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=57410.0

He was using 232W/card at stock clocks on air, while using 191W/card at stock clocks on water. So about a saving of 40W, or if you rathar deal with MH/J numbers it's 2.37 MH/J (air) to 2.87 MH/J (water).

If you pay 10c/kwh, the waterblocks save you about $35/year.

I still don't see how swapping out 1 fan for a watercooler saves 40W...

Watercooling allows the GPU to run much cooler.

If temperatures are high, resistance is also high.  It requires more power to overcome that resistance.

This therefore saves a good amount of energy.

Simple GPU miner with 1x 5850 and 1x 7970.

Pulls 370 watts at the wall with some tweaking of the GPUs.

59C for the 7970 and 68C for the 5850.

850 Mhash/s

The government, ironically, is supposed to be a government for the people

Still believe that?

Wake up, and smell the ashes.

Playing too much Half-Life 2?  Grin

But yes the government is not truly there for the people.  I predict that the government will eventually turn into a totalitarian state, due to utter chaos that will come from future lack of resources (oil and other hydrocarbon energy sources)

As to the other posters and criticisms, you must agree that the government is in fact placing too many regulations and taxes upon us.  They are limiting job creation while at the same time promising to promote them.  Take from the candidates that are running for office, for example.  I have not seen much improvement and most of it is just empty promises to simply get them in power.

Although the government may be trying to prepare for the future and sustainability I don't think they are taking it the right way.  After all, the government cannot do this alone.  By them setting up all types of programs they are simply wasting tax payer money.  It is up to ourselves and private sector companies to shape our growth.

What the government is doing is simply stunting future growth.

Lol looks like with the more hash the luck went away.

Yeah seems quite unlucky.  I'm over here due to GPUMax not accepting leased shares  Tongue

Also, what is recommended here?  Is DGM or PPS better?
325  Other / Politics & Society / Wtf is the government thinking on: June 03, 2012, 06:51:49 PM
The government, ironically, is supposed to be a government for the people, in the USA at least.  Yet we have constantly seen that people are being controlled by the government, and our freedoms being taken away slowly, and slowly, and slowly,  yet we have allowed this to happen.

Let me list some things:

1. Tobacco Tax
2. Banning smoking in public places
3. Plastic bag ban
4. Ban on drugs (Looks bad, but there is no reason for marijuana to really even be banned)
5. Closure of coal plants (30 closed across the nation, decreasing our electricity generation capacity)

And more...

Unfortunately for me to make things worse, I live in a liberal city full of liberals that want things only their way.  They're increasing electric rates, banning plastic bags soon and making a big stir...

Electric used to be much cheaper $0.03-0.04 and now it's going up to rates such as $0.15/KWh.  They decided to close down a ton of power plants in the city while demand is rising, and decided that stealing more money from our pockets is a viable solution to lower demand and rolling blackouts.

So why don't people stand up to the government?  Our freedoms are slowly being taken away.  The majority politicians only go into government to control people and have power.  Of course that is human nature but we still can limit that from having such slow and devastating impacts on our freedoms.
326  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Power for two 5850 on: June 03, 2012, 04:43:48 PM
Thanks for the info
Didn't really know about that "multirail" problem Sad

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171053&Tpk=cooler%20master%20750w

That should suffice your needs.

I have that exact same PSU and it can run a 7970 that pulls 250w at stock and the 150.  At the same time I have a pretty expensive CPU since this used to be my gaming PC, yet it provides enough power to everything.
327  Economy / Speculation / Re: are you all watching? on: June 03, 2012, 04:00:04 PM
if only.

i personally do not find it seductive to sell into 5.20 wall.
Will not support it either.

Yes looks like it's stuck at $5.20-5.27

Not going anywhere.  Might as well wait for the real price increase in December, since there is no reason for the price to really go up unless demand overtakes the daily inflation of bitcoin.
328  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: June 03, 2012, 02:54:37 PM

Seems like we're still out of public work.

Any ideas when it usually comes back online?
329  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Radeon 7970 ASIC Quality / Quality-%-Matching Multi-Card Rigs on: June 03, 2012, 02:46:58 AM
"ASIC quality reading not supported on this card".  Sad That was for 6770, 6870 and 5770. So only 7xxx cards are supported?

Yes from the description of the software I think only 7xxx and above are supported.

330  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Radeon 7970 ASIC Quality / Quality-%-Matching Multi-Card Rigs on: June 02, 2012, 10:15:05 PM
ASIC quality?

I am a 7970 owner with 1x 7970 and 1x 5850 for mining.

What exactly is ASIC and ASIC quality?

331  Economy / Speculation / Re: are you all watching? on: June 01, 2012, 09:49:01 PM
Don't believe the depth chart.  Sometimes it's a trap.

I'm stating to think "fake walls" are a thing of the past

I'm starting to question your position, but I would welcome the outcome if you are right.

now I'm thinking bear trap,
5,20 REALLY wants to be sold into

So.. $8 or no?

I'm no economist or speculator, just a simple miner  Tongue

Oh I see.. we're in the bearish trap stage of the epic price bubble.  Grin
332  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 25 Ghash - Solo mine? Or GPUMax? on: May 30, 2012, 10:21:19 PM
I mine with p2pool for the cool factor more than anything Cool

I like how it brings Bitcoin back toward its more primitive state, when there were not pools which could have influence on development.

Interesting choice of phrase. I'd probably go for "less centralized".

Whatever you do, don't mine at Deepbit. Tycho's a nice guy, but his pool controls way too large a percentage of the network for anyone's safety.

Well it appears that he has competition from other pools with slush at 12%, Deepbit only at 9%.

Also appears to be a large amount of "unknown" miners.
333  Bitcoin / Mining / Benefits of using BAMT/Linux? on: May 27, 2012, 05:56:55 PM
Hello,

I am currently mining without OC and plan to never OC.  I am currently on Windows with CGMiner.

I would like to know what the benefits of mining in linux is.  My system is also headless without a monitor, keyboard, or mouse.

How easy is it to administrate from another computer? Currently I am using windows remote desktop since the miner is Win 7.
334  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Any Problems with putting rig in car garage? on: May 27, 2012, 04:32:02 PM
I would like to ask if the garage will have any bad effects on the cards.

Make sure your electrical will handle the rigs without popping breakers when the garage door opens, for instance.

Also, physical security is generally lax in a garage.  Particularly if you show it off to the neighbor, who then tells a neighbor and the next thing you know its gone.

Yes the electrical should stand up to power the rig.  My neighborhood is a higher end neighborhood, with basically zero crime rates here, so no worries about that.

Thanks for all the advice.  Moving it into the garage very soon   Cool
335  Bitcoin / Mining support / Any Problems with putting rig in car garage? on: May 25, 2012, 10:25:32 PM
Hello,

I currently have my miner already but it heats up the area quite fast, and is a miner that is mining in an open area where the heat can dissipate to the rest of the house.  This is my concern because I don't want to pay extra for AC and therefore reducing my profit from mining.

I would like to ask if the garage will have any bad effects on the cards.  I already have the case fully enclosed so there won't be issues with bugs and whatnot.
Would the garage ambient temperature be bad or not?

Thanks,

Aqrulesms
336  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Ati HD 7970 + 5850 on: May 23, 2012, 03:03:13 AM
What is the average power consumption of a 5850 + 7970 mining together?  How many Mhashes do they produce?
337  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Should I invest in a 7970 or a bitforce single? on: May 23, 2012, 03:01:52 AM
I just ordered a 7970 from Newegg which is yet to arrive.  Going to find out myself, but I was in the same situation you were when I first was looking into the mining.

With the block halving approaching in December of this year, I would say the 7970 is the way to go.  The BFL singles take 2 months before they ship due to slow manufacture and high demand, and the 60 days could be crucial time that is needed to break even before the half.

However, your electricity rate may simply be too high to go for GPUs.  In that case, definitely go for the BFL single.

In most cases, if your electricity rate is < $0.15 you should be good to go.  Electricity can be a huge factor in the profitability.  Just go look at the mining profitability calculators and plug in the numbers.  It's EXPONENTIAL.

It's best to plug in at least 2 7970 or in conjunction with another card.  That would give a more efficient MHs/w than just a single 7970.

If you have solar panels, by all means mine away with the 7970. $0.00/kWh beats everything  Cool

338  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: if you're into watercooled 7970s... on: May 23, 2012, 01:38:08 AM
Can I just say thank you for not writing "if your into watercooled 7970's"?

Thank you.

You and I think alike.  I hate when people use wrong grammar.
339  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Optimize hashrate for 5850 on: May 23, 2012, 01:05:42 AM
I only get 347 Mhash/s at 900 MHZ.

What software does everyone use?
 - SDK version
 -Catalyst version
340  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Ati HD 7970 + 5850 on: May 21, 2012, 10:02:51 PM
They will mine together.  But the software required to use the 7970 will reduce the 5850's hash speed by about 10%.  For a small single system/rig miner that's not a big deal.  If you ever decide to go bigger, just keep in mind that it's best to keep the 7xxx series cards separate from the 5xxx & 6xxx cards.

Yes, as soon as I break even I will sell off my 5850 and add another 7970 on, just in time for the block halving.
