321  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Butterfly Jalapeno Asic Device on: September 10, 2012, 12:49:14 AM
http://www.butterflylabs.com/order-form-bitforce-sc-jalapeno/

Is it a good idea to pre-order such a device? Is butterfly trustworth?
What type of hostsystem is neccessary to run this (hardware, os) device?

Sorry for possible double posting but i (as newbie) can not yet ask and reply to other forums.

Thanks

BFL is trustworthy.  Per-order is allot of what they do  Cry.  Host system should be any computer running CGminer or the software you are using to mine with now.  I have one on back order because I had the coins to do it when they came out.  Figured I would give it a try and I own their singles.  Good company but they are a small business in a very interesting market.  The current products work fine.

I wanted to see what the group is seeing that their avg. to transfer funds from Gox to Dwolla.  Min/Hr/Days?

Thanks,

It looks like 24 hours from MtGox to Dwolla, but just trying to see if folks have seen it go faster or slower.

Something to think about, they may be tech and internet poor but many thridworld countries jump on cell and cell phones fast.  It is cheap to stand up and Mastercard would be interested in making sure all of those people have some way to shop the world or with themselves.  This is not a fast thing but somthing to think about and bitcoin could be use more for them to do transactions with.
325  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Does technical analysis work for Bitcoins as well? on: September 07, 2012, 05:51:49 PM
What do you think? Does the Bitcoin market function like every other (stock) market? Can technical analysis tools be used to forecast market trends?

E.g. Elliott Waves, lines of support, resistance, channels, and more obscure formations such as flags, pennants, balance days and cup and handle patterns.

Do you guys use technical analysis on e.g. MtGox?
I would say that it works. But as with conventional trading, I wouldn't want to rely solely on it. Its just another feather in your cap, along with fundamentals, news, and weekend dip, among other things.
+1

Can technical analysis be used to forecast trends in other (e.g. stock) markets?
I don't see why technical analysis would not work for bitcoin.  You might have problems with data quality or limited data to do full scale analysis since this is an emerging industry.  I would say there is enough stuff going on that one could do this and over time more and more can be done.

Now the best way to go about it is a good question.

329  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speculate About the years 2013-2016 on: September 06, 2012, 08:05:06 PM
Here is my Bitcoin 2016 prediction, give or take a few bubbles  Cheesy
Nice chart, now if you could add something to back up the line I would love it more.  Not to beat you up but I hate when people make charts and then their is nothing to explain why the chart is doing what it is doing.  You must be an economist but finance people deal with facts and numbers and not graphs and theories.  They may bend the numbers or fake the numbers but at least you can see how they got there where as economist hid behind "all things being equal".  Hell that one statement alone allowed me to ace my econ classes with allot of words in front of it, easy.

As I tell all economist, love the idea but show me the facts and please prove me wrong because otherwise this is a fun line to look at on graph paper.
Iit is a "prediction" but even when you can back it up with numbers it could still mean nothing, look at the Aztec calendar it has predicted every day since its inception with 100% accuracy and then S#!? for 2013.
I like the prediction is a little accelerated for my grasp.  I think the issue is you want to believe it and need more substance.

So your saying the Aztec calendar is not true, crap I guess this bunker I am in was a waste.   Grin
Yes I want to believe but without something more then a line it is just art, I would like to believe in unicorns and its possible because of horses and Narwals.  They may not be real but see I presented something that could make them real and I could even make a picture happen with more pictures supporting the first picture.  That is what I would like and yes you are right.

331  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: bitfloor needs your help! on: September 06, 2012, 07:36:11 PM
anyone notice the title of the thread? I don't see many responses to the plea for help...That said, just because we want Bitcoin to be decentralized and all that jazz, it doesn't mean we shouldn't get law enforcement involved when thefts occur.  It's computer hacking or fraud at the very least.

Excellent point. Bitfloor  has been very good to it's customers. Lowest fees, very easy to use, excellent (and personalized) customer service. No shady "account locking." No information extortion.

How can we help?
1) If you have funds there, be patient. We gave gox forever and a day, and they were making WAY more than Bitfloor. (quadruple the fees on a 10x-100x the volume)
2) Offer to invest in Bitfloor.

Roman, if you're reading this: This thread is clearly not the place to discuss it, but if you're willing to accept investment, that seems like the best way your user base can help you recover ASAP.

I'm not a big enough player to make much of a dent, but I would be willing to invest. It seems like you should start some kind of discussion on going forward with this, if you're considering it.

I also think you should let your accountholders with USD withdraw immediately before any other steps are taken.

Best wishes.

+1 and it is nice to read a positive post on here when this stuff happens.  It is what it is and in the end I hope something like this happens that is listed above.  I will say this at the end of the day either bitfloor will comeback or something like it will pop up to take its place.  Having just Mtgox (mainly I know there are other but) is just not an option.  I am not sure how they do things in Japan but I will say that for us U.S. folks bitfloor hit a solid home run and so we need something like that again.  (Just with better security ops Smiley )
332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's are totally useless once you have a state of WAR! on: September 06, 2012, 07:31:04 PM
What do you think? Where is he right/wrong?

I think your friend is mentally retarded and you should get a new friend unless you just like working with 'challenged' kids.

+1 and look at history, I would rather be in bitcoins then a countries currency during war.  Once a war kicks off the money goes in the old round filling cabinet.  Ask Saddam, Kadafi, Hitler (just to name a few experts) all of those folks went to war and their money turned to funny.  Now you look at Hitler and what did he do, he chased more stable funds to back his funds and he also stole obtained other items such as art, gold and transferable equity so he could keep the war machine going.  I don't have time to write a whole history about this (wait maybe I should, might make a nice coffee table book, anyways) but drop by your local library and have fun discovering our human history and how money and war have worked since the dawn of time.

And remember kids, stay in school.

FYI - I had some ACH (USD) transactions from the weekend pending when bitfloor went down that *did* complete this afternoon.

As Roman promised these transactions were not stopped/interrupted.

I would assume that had he been the culprit these monies would also have disappeared.

Our pending ACHs also cleared today.  Not insignificant sums.
For what it is worth we have done a lot of business with Roman and honestly I just don't see him pulling any kind of scam or fake hack.

I can +1 this.

I've met Roman many times, and lives/works not far from our NYC office.

I dont see him pulling any scams...but you never know!

I can say that funds I pulled on Sunday did show up as normal.  Funds I pulled Tuesday during that small window of time are on hold.  Wish I had pulled my coins too on Sunday.

335  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Anyone have a good remote access system for their mining rigs ? on: September 05, 2012, 02:30:09 PM
My mining rigs run BAMT and so I have used SSH. I just wish I were better with the linux command line. :/ Its been a trail and error learning experience the past month or so.
I think that is the point of this thread.  If you want something simple and will take little effort either logmein or teamviewer for free.  If you want something that is light, custom and could take some time to setup the way you want then there are many command line and windows/linux formats you can use for free too.  It’s like this, if I want butter I can go and see how the land-o-lakes works out or I can take some cream and churn away.  Sure I will know the butter in and out along with any special things like adding some vanilla for a fun taste but at the end of the day I don't care about butter that much I just need some for something I am trying to eat.
My deal is that when something is wrong with the rig I want something that will get me in fast and fix the problem fast.  I will admit it here first; my name is HDSolar and yes I use an iPhone.  There I said it so burn me at the stake now for not having a droid or some Chinese knockoff phone that I programmed to make a call (or text or whatever people prefer over talking on a cell/smart phone now a day).  Logmein has a free app for the iPhone that works and when I am at work and really need to get something done fast because I need to be working at work, logmein is there with no questions asked.  Teamview is good too but I have my reasons for one over the other as my primary.

Understood. My point was going to be that the OP did not state if it was windows or linux, however re-reading his post he does say he is running windows 7. My bad...

I used Logmein for a long time and just recently switched to teamviewer. both are great easy to use programs if your trying to connect to different machines behind a router from somewhere else. If you and your machines are on the same local network then I would use UltraVNC/WinVNC.
No problem, just having some fun with this thread.  It would be interesting to see a poll of who uses what.  From the posts it looks like logmein is winning for those who are running on a windows based setup.  I think and again I think teamview works in Linix as well but not 100% sure.  I know of people who are diehard Linix users and they use teamview.  FYI
336  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: bitfloor needs your help! on: September 05, 2012, 12:47:59 AM
Following from my previous post, here's an interesting idea. Roman Shtylman, please read this and consider...

What if Bitfloor went public on the GLBSE and distributed 100% ownership of the company to the users who lost BTC in the heist, proportionally according to their lost BTC balances. For example, issue ~24,000,000 shares (one share for each 0.001 BTC that was stolen), and distribute the shares proportionately to the users whose BTC was stolen. Then Bitfloor would pay 100% of its operating profits (revenues minus operating expenses) proportionately to its shareholders. The new shareholders could either sit on their newly granted shares, sell them to recoup whatever money they could get, or buy more shares from others who are unloading theirs.
+1 but I would want Roman to maintain some percentage of the company because we would need someone to run the show and we would want him to stay stay motiviated to continue the process.  With no motiviation I might as well invest in the post office or the government.
337  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ASICs for sale on eBay on: September 04, 2012, 02:31:55 PM
If that person gets his BFL ASIC shipped to them in October - I will have my picture taken dressed in a butterfly costume and make that my profile picture Tongue
+1

I have been watching this guy on ebay, did you all see the BFL Jalapeno's that were up before this.  15 for sale and they all sold for about 275.00 a unit, what the hell.  I made an offer for 120 which was not excepted since I can go to BFL and get them for 150.  I agree that this person is only selling an option that anyone could get if they just used something like Google to find a cheaper alternative.  Also I think the person listing the 2 week return is totally giving a very high hope.  All of that said eBay allows this all the time and basically what I am most surprised about is that people are buying these things who really don't know what they are getting and then what, how are they going to join our network of fellow bitcoin miners?  Its like that show on discovery with the miners who show up, start digging and then have a hard go at it so they do what, start talking to the established miners around them.  Really do we need more people asking, hey I just bought this thing on ebay and I don't really know how it works, I think it will make coffee and the warm it right?

I give the guy props for selling this stuff at a premium and ask, why is BFL not doing this themselves?  And no they are not doing this, I asked.

Anyone used logmein?

Hells yeah!

I vastly prefer LogMeIn over TeamViewer.

I use both, when I need someone to work with me on my system I use teamviewer.  When I need to work with the system by myself it is logmein all the way.  Basically I can set up a constant to allow folks to work on a webserver or other IT things without having to open up my whole system where as with logmein I can pop in and out of all my loaded systems and do what I have to do.

Love them both but I like logmein best.
340  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: A little known ASIC benefit. on: September 03, 2012, 07:23:04 PM
Question, if we are talking about BFL ASIC units they have noted that the power will be the same.  So this idea of less power comes from what?  I know BFL won't take more power but the new units should be using the same amount (maybe a little less) then their first versions.  If I am wrong I would love to know because that would be sweet.
