321  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Women in Bitcoin - linuxchix? bitcoinchix? on: January 31, 2013, 10:54:35 AM
Edit: I edited this post because I have some research to do, which I probably should have done before, but better late than never as the saying goes. I'm saving my original post locally, until I can analyze the situation. Too bad that requires time investment and too bad that "time is money", which means I may simply not have it.

I've updated my thread to be more clear. Sorry about confusion, no not transvestites. Also no segregation, just highlighting some women. Hey do you know how many men I know that are into Bitcoin? Gavin, Amir Taaki, need I say more? Jeff Garzik.

That will give impression to outside people that it's a men's technology just as women may shy away from linux.

Segregation? No. Promotion? Yes. Scrat Acorns, I covered your comment as well. Yes, we are going mainstream  Cool
322  Bitcoin / Project Development / Women in Bitcoin - linuxchix? bitcoinchix? on: January 31, 2013, 12:02:38 AM
Edit: My first post in this thread led to misunderstandings, so for others to understand I made this edit. If you can't find my original post you can at least find it in the other people quoting me.

Right. I opened this thread to just highlight some discrimination regarding gender I've found or think/wonder is discrimination, but also to highlight good stuff or role models. The thread can include discrimination met from one sex to the other and vice versa. The aim being the Bitcoin community being less about sexism and more about acceptance and using the resources of people, not what gender they are.

Leaving this almost 'as is':
The linux community you may not be part of but there are women role models like Kristen Carlson Accardi or Valerie Aurora both involved to some extent(or to a greater extent) in linux kernel development. Generally a minority of women are both gamers and/or programmers, although they are not that much "advertised", so we usually learn little unless we hunt for code commits.
For a man role model I give the example of Gavin Andresen, one of my own role models, though that doesn't mean I agree with my role model's views or anything, I have my own views and can think for myself.

Now on BTC the only woman(1 person) I know of that knows about BTC is Ladybytes. I wanna focus now on women who are in it for the love of technology, learning etc so if you know about anyone woman who's got a blog or shows interest in btc just on a neutral basis, give a shout. For anything else section has been deleted, because I'm unsure. You got any questions you are free to ask.

Why I think this is not like a separation at cost of acceptance of everyone like TradeFortress notes: I find this more like a safe haven or highlighting of discrimination. Discrimination is done worldwide and not talking about it, is what makes the problem worse. Thus this thread encourages dialogue, among what has already been posted.
323  Other / Meta / Re: Thanks for support connecting here through Tor anonymity network on: January 30, 2013, 09:43:15 PM
That I want equality doesn't mean I'm for one gender. I just want a balance like many others of my peers.

LadyBytes I think does a great job, I've watched her video. You'll find extreme genderists to be against such stuff and call it sexism and stuff but to me that is just extremism. The woman body is well...more attractive than the body of a man for obvious reasons. That's my opinion and you can dispute it but I doubt even women will disagree.

This doesn't mean I want what LadyBytes does. I wish her luck in what she is doing, I'm more interested if other women who are about to learn about BTC have some role model they can take example from.
From ladybytes I think they already have a role model. Good job LadyBytes!

We men have Gavin, we've seen him. We have Amir...we have really lots too many to mention I think. Role models in the linux community? Again we men have Linus Torvalds of course! There are women too in linux community since it's a pretty fucking huge community. I just take Nixie Pixel(sorry maybe misspellt). I don't know if she even has an opinion on Bitcoin or if she's interested in cryptography. Though taking her as example in the linux community I wouldn't really, we have some high profile women who do work in the linux kernel so there is some activity there. Bitcoin though? I don't even know somebody except LadyBytes who have been pretty public here. Any women blogs on Bitcoin?? Speakers??

In Bitcoin though I don't know. Anybody know? I see this project not accelerating as much as it could if I(I'll blame myself before I blame others) don't do anything. I might just as well start contacting some ppl I think may be interested(just asking for opinion, not trying to "convert" and stuff. I just wanna know what they think, and help with questions they may have). Enough talking...
324  Other / Meta / Thanks for support connecting here through Tor anonymity network on: January 30, 2013, 09:07:34 PM
I want to say thanks for your support of letting people connect here through the Tor anonymity network.
I believe that means that you value anonymity not just for the sake of anonymity but that it really helps people who may be repressed or outcasts.

That includes both men and women whose opinions may be questioned by their peer groups, and at sites it has occured that some people have stalked other people.

Why is this important? Take the linux community for example, there's some stalking there done by some extremists who do not agree like about gender equality so they go like stalk, death threat and stuff against the other sex. Sex-stalking etc is usually more prevalent in high technologies. Now Bitcoin which is a very advanced technology, I think we must really balance the community, we must not only accept men, or only techpeople here. We must be open to everyone. I don't mean just women, just as well men who are considered weird by their male peers I also include in that category. I may just as well include myself in that category.

One extra thing which I think is important to mention: Men who are against abuse against women or against sexism, doesn't mean they are feminists but they are rejected by other men. The charge for being rejected from their male group may be that they think like women. If you have feelings more than the average guy(man) it doesn't mean you are a "woman on the inside".
Now on the woman side, if you are a woman gamer you may just as well be rejected by your female peers, being labeled as geek. So in this both these men and women we are in the same boat, since we experience this shit, we feel we want more equality, and because if we express that in the open(Think like Tor being like when you leave your house, you don't leave the door open, right? So with Tor you close your door, but without it it's like it's open, anybody can peek inside if they so wanted) we may get stalked by fools who don't wanna discuss, they just wanna reject and hunt because they are blind and prefer to be.

That's why I thank you for supporting Tor. It allows people to keep their privacy.
325  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-02 emirates.com/open skies - goodbye cash – could bitcoin be the paperless on: January 30, 2013, 10:54:03 AM
2) Person B adds his secret key to the message, then sends the transaction to the Bitcoin network for verification.
Secret key??? What the heck? Is this article telling people to reveal their private keys? But that way people can steal your BTC

The sender only requires the bitcoin address. It seems technical wording is getting intermixed with public relations wording. The result a complete misunderstanding mess.
326  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-01-29 wealthdaily.com - Virtual Currency Hurting Central Banks? on: January 29, 2013, 09:48:36 PM
We're seeing a lot of articles like this lately.

The best part about them is that banks will read these articles and want to stop Bitcoin, while regular people will read them and want to buy bitcoins. This will make people hate banks even more, accelerating Bitcoin's adoption.
Hate banks you mean who do not accept BTC. Even if you don't mean this, this is how I interpret it.

There are "Bitcoin banks" today. Heard of those online Bitcoin wallets? That's a bank. A bank stores value for you, and that's what an online wallet service is.

You must mean large multinational economic institutions that don't handle BTC that people hate.
327  Bitcoin / Project Development / Music sites or stores that sell music or let you donate to artists in [btc] on: January 28, 2013, 05:03:48 PM
I start this thread so I can gather info(and to which you can add info as well) of music stores where we must first pay in BTC to listen or sites that let us download music legally and then donate in BTC after listening to and liking the music.
coindl is just used as an example as a store which takes a fee for listing something like in this case a music album which can be purchased for BTC.

For sending BTC to an individual artist without any fees of a "middleman" or intermediary I update a post of mine at this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=138547.msg1475551 "Jamendo, ccmixter and other indie(or not) music artists that accept Bitcoin"

Stores or intermediaries accepting Bitcoin:
Artist, comment
Rupert Lally / Espen J. Jörgensen album "Stillium Partita", https://www.coindl.com/page/item/385 A youtube teaser is available on the page.

Seven7hwave, -, http://seven7hwave.bandcamp.com/ . Accepts BTC as "donation". QuantumQrack posted he bought music from there.

Would you buy music with your bitcoins ?
No. I would prefer to download the music legally from for example Jamendo.com, ccmixter.org, listen to it, then I would like to donate BTC to support artists whose music I like.

PM AKORDEON http://clinicadosom.com I accept Bitcoins for performances and cd's. No digital downloads available now.
There are music links on your site.

I know but I want to ask the artist.

May I ask, can I download your music before I buy it and also do you release it under any cc license or just all rights reserved?

Edit: Nevermind I just learnt that bandcamp uses a model in contrast to Jamendo, ccmixter etc because to listen to the music you have to pay for it. Nevermind MichaelNightTime, but cool that you accept Bitcoin. You still do accept Bitcoin, right?(just checkin, in case somebody else would like to buy it)

I'm sure. Nobody's interested in a mumble server you can pay for with Bitcoin? Come on!

Is this service still available? Just checkin...

This was tweeted by Gavin ~two days ago.
"BitPay Surpasses 10,000 Bitcoin Merchant Transactions, Zero Cases of Payment Fraud" http://t.co/qmHd9Y7l
Maybe this is about lots of companies getting in touch with bitpay to start accepting BTC. If that's the case then I'm glad. Maybe there are many reasons for the higher price, but I need to wait until it becomes stable at least for 15 days before buying any.
333  Bitcoin / Project Development / Jamendo, ccmixter and other indie(or not) music artists that accept Bitcoin on: January 24, 2013, 11:17:19 AM
I've opened a wiki entry at Sep 8 2014 bitcoin.wikia.com http://bitcoin.wikia.com/wiki/Jamendo,_ccmixter_and_other_indie%28or_not%29_music_artists_that_accept_Bitcoin

Right, time for some P2P!
That is direct donations to artists instead of going through sites like Jamendo, ccmixter, bandcamp etc. acting as intermediaries for the artists. Let's send money to the artists directly.

Because I contact a lot of artists whose music I like it's easier to organise if I put them in a list.
Artist, date of communication(or date contacted),comment

Got a reply:
Adisa(Adisa McKenzie), Feb 05 2013, Voice found in Sentry by The Runner(BY-3.0) on ccmixter. Is into BTC, and is trying to figure out the best way to use them.
Kellee Maize, Feb 02, is not aware of Bitcoin, what it is.
Josh Woodward, Dec 03 2012, was pleased that I offered BTC but is not set up for that. "Together on our own"(CCBY-3.0) in album "Ashes" good one.
zero-project, Dec 09, Didn't know about Bitcoin. Said it sounded interesting and will look it up.

'No reply yet':
Antarhes, Jan 24 2013, Album Silaelin(BY-3.0). Their myspace I contacted seems to have been active 3 years ago. I'm afraid their group has dispanded. Damn.
Crimson Blue, Jan 28 2013, I liked their album innocence(BY-3.0).

Artists accepting Bitcoin:
Leo Treasure, -, See post #5 in this thread for the BTC address!!
Michael NightTime, Jan 26 2013 , post #2 in this thread!
Pm Akordeon, -, post #3 in this thread!
Zeropage, Apr 07 2013, bitcoin:16V3xQnAzUVWbNLnt3cfkNwkCyF8Z2irSV (Stefan mentioned that he will put the address as a Bitcoin donation button on his homepage 'soon'.)

Edit: I edited my post heavily so it doesn't look much like the original. My aim is that we put all music artists here that accept BTC payments for their music(bandcamp style) or accept BTC donations to their music(jamendo, ccmixter style)
334  Economy / Economics / Re: Concerned about the recent BTC price rise. on: January 23, 2013, 09:16:25 PM
The halving of the mining reward is the main cause of this rally. The new equilibrium price is above $32.
Damn, now I have to refrain from purchasing BTC because I'm not sure if the rising price is trying to fool me into buying BTC at a price it's not worth.
It's just wait and see now.

Why is it rising? Has some new userbase seen the use of BTC and lots of people trying to get some? (demand for BTC rising?)
335  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Humble Indie Bundle - Purchasing with Bitcoin? on: January 22, 2013, 05:19:07 PM
Since Jan 13 I've contacted some indie game developers of HiB7, offering 1 BTC. No great interest, the most positive response I got was from Shank 2 developers, who took my tweet as rather flattering. That's good. When they ask for the BTC I promised they'll have them, but for my donation total for HiB7 not to stay on 0.01 USD, I've donated my 1 BTC somewhere.

I've given 1BTC to DreadKnight to fix the shield found here http://opengameart.org/content/osare-weapon-icons for the game flarerpg. It's not 100% certain that improved art will get into the game but I'm happy all the same that some new art has been added. Here's the art http://opengameart.org/content/flare-buckler-improved. All(there's actually only a buckler) of it is under CC0 if it makes any difference.

Will be interesting when HiB8 comes out...

Klei Entertainment who made Shank 2 in HiB7 favourited a tweet where I offered 1BTC. This doesn't necessarily mean anything, and the tweet is only about 3 hours old, so I'll wait and see if they want my BTC.

338  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Humble Indie Bundle - Purchasing with Bitcoin? on: January 20, 2013, 11:43:43 AM
Some people sell bundle keys for Bitcoin in the Marketplace.
At https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=133622.0 "[CLOSED] Humble Indie Bundle 7" vuce wanted to buy 3 bundles for Bitcoin through chris200x9 by paying 3*6.53*1.2 = 23.508$ = 1.77BTC.

That means vuce pays a 20% fee to chris200x9 for the effort and service of being the middleperson for the purchase, thus paying 1.77BTC. Though if it was done today it would be 1.5BTC since you pay more dollars for Bitcoin at this moment.
I would do something similar if it wasn't for the change of tactic that I've begun to employ.

We’re anticipating the future of BitCoin and are open to considering it as a payment method for future bundles, but are currently holding off until they become a little more established. We’re keeping our eye on Bitcoin though!

Thank you for your support,
We understand each other now. Great! I need to send them no more e-mails now  Grin

I did good in contacting the indie game devs and artists who contribute to HiB(that could help in getting Bitcoin more well known  Wink). Recently I've contacted an artist(of Swords & Sworcery), who is interested in the idea though will research how Bitcoin works first before he gives it a chance.
