3201  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Review] Bitcoin Back Debit Card by Fold on: July 10, 2022, 08:58:42 AM
Sadly fold at the moment can only be funded with fiat.

Is it funded with fiat directly, or is it funded by sending Bitcoin to a payment processor and that is converting it to fiat for the card?
Because if it's the first scenario (which, from my understanding, seems to be the case), calling it "Bitcoin black debit card" is widely incorrect.
3202  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Tip] Live Linux, Live Windows on: July 10, 2022, 08:01:30 AM
Wow, just wow! I forgot how amazingly shitty anything Windows related is. First thing I do: close popup. That opens a new tab. Next click: Download. That opens a gaming portal and another tab again. Now I get Youtube videos, but still no download link. It turns out I need to donate $20 through Paypal to get a download link. Never mind.
wiNd0ws is crap, but you can find websites like this with popups related with anything, like movies, software, games, p0rn, etc.
I think they live and survive for advertisement popups, and most people don't even use any Ad blockers, believe it or not  Cheesy

Indeed, the problem is more related to the fact it's a software that's not supposed to be redistributed (I think that Windows license doesn't allow that), not directly related to the fact it's windows itself.
But I agree, it's not straightforward to get it (hence my "if you need help, ask" in that post). I did, though (I've also checked the link at the time of posting it).

However, LoyceV, I'll message you with another (temporary) links.

I've used Ventoy (https://github.com/ventoy/Ventoy) in the past
I'll try this next.
Update: That was much, much easier Smiley It's copying ISOs now.

Did you get any easy-to-get WindowsPE iso too?

Till now I have always used Rufus to create bootable USBs, but it only works on Windows and there is no Linux version (there is a severe issue when running with WINE where the USBs cannot be detected and thus makes the tool useless).

And UNetBootin sometimes fails to make a USB that can actually boot an iso.

Yes, this has ended my frustrations with Rufus, Unetbootin, Etcher or Universal USB installer. Depending on what I wanted to write, I had to use different tool, and even the recommended tool had plenty of times it didn't work as expected.
3203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lost seed recovered BTC stolen on: July 09, 2022, 10:33:59 AM
I found my lost seed and recovered my electrum wallet; only to find that wallet had been emptied.     10.78134 BTC gone, now 0. Can anyone explain to me how that is possible. How did someone successfully hack my account.

Option 1. It may be that you've stored the seed somewhere somebody else had access to it. One of the most common mistakes is to store the seed in electronic systems - cloud, e-mail and so on.
Option 2. Your computer is infected. A malware can look for specific files, a malware can record your keystrokes.. and send everything to its master.
Option 3. You didn't pay attention, you have downloaded a malicious Electrum and also didn't check the signature.

Since the wallet is only a tool handling the keys to your coins, it's not necessary for somebody really access your computer, instead, just by having the seed he can recover to another wallet and spend your funds from there.
I'm really sorry for your loss, it's a huge amount you should have known to keep it on cold storage or at least hardware wallet. Sad

PS. Bitcoin system doesn't have "accounts".
3204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Russia's Special Op is good for Decentralized Bitcoin on: July 09, 2022, 10:16:41 AM
Bitcoin & other decentralized cryptos heavily rely on the independence of Nations to remain decentralized. There are constant attempts by fascists or so called globalists to weaken the ability of nations to remain independent in order for them to have some sort of strong central control over all nations & the whole world at large, but this can not be easily achieved without the weakening of bigger nations that pose bigger threats to this goal. Countries like Russia, USA (under Trump)... & possibly China are part of the bigger Nations(leaders) they seek to weaken. Decentralized Cryptocurrencies heavily relies on the independence of such nations to keep the miners, nodes, and even developers decentralized. If the fascist had succeeded it would be easy for them to implement a worldwide rules against miners, nodes, developers without much challenge.
A borderless One World Government is not a good idea for Decentralized Bitcoin. We need independent nations, independent governments, boundaries, etc for the good of Bitcoin and True Cryptocurrencies.

*Note that If a society I call my country is used by the "globalists" to work against a nation that's  against the globalist order, I will support the nation against my country. What matters is to reject evil no matter who or what country is used to spread it. If you blindly support your own in the name of brotherhood you are part of the problem.

Russia's shameless war (no special op fantasies, sorry) doesn't help anybody. Russia's war made the energy (and life) more expensive and that's all.
China's (so called) ban on bitcoin mining was the kick in the ass that helped the miners move forward towards decentralization, Russia has no merit in that.

For decentralized bitcoin we need dirt cheap energy everywhere on the world, no energy war. So no, Russia didn't help. Russia made the things worse, making miners in many countries struggle.
3205  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Preev.com - DNS hosting service has expired. on: July 08, 2022, 05:48:02 PM
No offense, but for most people it's too long to remember and type unless they use bookmark feature.

Yes, I know.

I was thinking about buying a domain jsut for this tool, but I think that it won't have too many access and it is hard to get sponsors, so I would just spend money.

I've made now from your link https://tinyurl.com/preev4
Sorry, the others (2 and 3) are taken, see my other post.
Not the best, stll, easier to remember.

3206  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: New to Nano X Ledger and might have loss a transfer. Help please ? on: July 08, 2022, 03:06:35 PM
I understand now I was supposed to select ERC20. So it has been 2 days and don't have on wallet nor back on Crypto.com. Am I completely beat? I had the correct wallet address but what can I do, any way I can recover my Mana?

You have to look if the transfer was initiated. The exchange should have given you a tx id. And you have to check on what network was the transfer done. Each blockchain is different, you can see it like a different universe.
If your coins were still sent on ETH blockchain (ethplorer.io, etherscan.io), you may have a chance. If it's on a different blockchain I don't know.

Disclaimer: I'm not in shitcoins either (at least not for years), nor crypto.com. I've used Ledger Nano S with some tokens long time ago though.
3207  Other / Archival / Re: What do you expect from bitcoin in the second half of 2022? on: July 08, 2022, 02:58:26 PM
but Hoping that this is not another trap before the true dumping happens any time this year.

While I cannot complain, since the price is not like in (my) worse scenario (under 10k), it still can go lower in the next few months. So being wary is important.
I've read today something that I don't know how accurate it is, but it's certainly a possible scenario:

This is what I think how price might move in upcoming months:
17.5k -> 28k -> 15k -> 19k -> 12.5k
12.5k > 22k -> 28k -> 45k

ATH to be near $180k once we start the bull run after Bitcoin Halving in April/May 2024.

Scrie ceva in acest sens in contractul de early booking...?

3209  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Cryptomining - Independence Day 2022 statistics on: July 08, 2022, 02:14:14 PM
Let's cut in the middle so that would make

If one would come and tell that US has probably somewhere between x and y % of the total hash rate, I'd say: "OK, finally a honest chart".

When it comes with numbers like 5.3% (allegedly US in 2019) or 19% (Kazakhstan) and so on, then there's no different news than the previous one, where US was already looking good and which was also filled with inaccurate numbers.

So yes, I can believe that US mining may be somewhere in 25-45% range (I've taken some margin for error in both directions). It looks like US indeed took the lion's part when China sent out its miners, although I would not be surprised that - exactly like with Germany - some numbers are there only because VPN.

I don't know if those big companies indeed have their hash rate entirely (or mostly) in US. I'd expect surprises from there too.
3210  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Read]: YTStealer Malware on: July 08, 2022, 01:24:22 PM
I don't know, but can someone put, say, 1 BTC and download random programs from the Internet? How is he expected to keep his money?

I think that you may have missed a couple of words when writing this...

However, nothing is perfect, clearly different computer is safer. However, using Virtual Box would probably make us avoid 99%+ of the cases.
When viruses reach the core, it is hard to trust that the system is safe.

Well, good luck convincing most of the world throw away Windows and maybe iOS too.
On the other hand improving people's habits may not be a big hassle for those who care, but they're uninformed.
3211  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Cryptomining - Independence Day 2022 statistics on: July 08, 2022, 01:18:11 PM
With the regard to the adoption of blockchain technology, the U.S. is not behind any other country, but besides that, when it comes to crypto mining it holds more than a third on a global scale.

Unless you can track all VPN traffic, you cannot prove those numbers, not this accurately (by far!) so imho they're pretty much worthless.
I've seen charts like this in the past. Not impressed, sorry.
3212  Economy / Economics / Re: The cost of printing fiat money to BTC generation. on: July 08, 2022, 01:07:46 PM
We all know it takes a lot of resources such as  money, time, efforts etc to print new paper notes (Fiat money), and I strongly believe same applies to generating BTC too.
But just to clear the air, between the very two which really takes a lot of resources to generate?

Let's say for example, one Bitcoin equals to $14,000. With the equalization in value of one Bitcoin to $14,000 does it means both could consume same amount of resources since they amount to same value?

You cannot compare. It's apples and oranges.

The price to mine one Bitcoin depends on various factors, but most important is the mining difficulty and that's something variable and not easy to understand. Even more, the price of bitcoin on the markets is not the mining price (nor the mining price + a known %). Halving, the increase of miners, the better and better hardware make difficulty and "mining price" be more and more expensive.

Now fiat. I don't know the official numbers and I'd guess that neither you do. Fiat money is printed multiple times. Old and partly destroyed money is replaced too. And destroying old money and re-printing is costly too, not only the printing of new banknotes.
Then, nowadays we use banks and cards. Since mining pretty much keeps almost the entire ecosystem running, it would be fair to somehow add all the fiat-relate part too. So: all the banks and their servers, then at very least VISA and Mastercard have to be added to the equation. Maybe even all the ATMs and PoS systems in shops (we can do the same for Bitcoin, but it won't change much). And it makes the numbers become significant, however, unknown.

So there are 2 numbers we don't know (maybe the numbers for Bitcoin can be guestimated). I let you compare them.

3213  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Preev.com - DNS hosting service has expired. on: July 08, 2022, 10:51:14 AM
If it helps anybody, especially if (like me) they don't care to remember various site names and even longer URLs, I've made over time two redirects to other websites showing prices:

https://tinyurl.com/preev2

and

https://tinyurl.com/preev3

I hope though that preev will be back. It was the cleanest.
3214  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Tip] Live Linux, Live Windows on: July 08, 2022, 08:32:22 AM
nothing is being saved there (I use no persistence).
That's assuming the software doesn't lie, right? And that's my point: by using separate sticks, I know for sure "GandalfsWindows" can't touch something else. It's probably far fetched and very unlikely, but it will always be on my mind if I used a private key in such a system.

Hey, now we're indeed getting somewhere!
In my "book" GandalfsWindows, being an ISO, it should behave like a DVD, i.e. it knows it cannot save anywhere. (Maybe this is the main flaw in my logic?!)
Because, indeed, I don't want to care whether "the software lies" or not. In this use case I want to be safe even if it's lying.
3215  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance remove BTC trade fees to mark 5th anniversary on: July 08, 2022, 08:28:44 AM
They have mentioned this and they might disqualify any trades if they feel many users taking too much advantages on their promotions and might stop it intentionally if they it's already enough. Honestly 0.1% fees in Binance isn't expensive and I don't think I need to sell my coins to save 0.1% fees only considering Bitcoin price drop around 65% lol. I will keep holding and wouldn't care such promotions.

It's a great advertising for Binance, it puts their name into the news once more.
It doesn't help you and me, but it does help those who make 10s or 100s of trades every day with small margin to earn some money (btw, I expect more trading bots with this announcement).
The day traders will prefer Binance with this move, hence there will be even more liquidity there.

It's a smart move imho, although, as an "average Joe" who doesn't use trading bots I think I'd prefer such promotion don't last too log  Cheesy
3216  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet send queue, delete queue item on: July 08, 2022, 08:11:17 AM
in the 'history', right click on it and click on 'remove'.

I tried your recommendation. The only thing in the history is the deposit coming into the wallet. The time stamp is notably different.

Indeed, if you want to remove the unpaid, but saved transactions, you have to right-click and Delete, but not in History, instead in the queue from the "Send" tab.
3217  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Tip] Live Linux, Live Windows on: July 08, 2022, 08:03:38 AM
For privacy and security, adding another boot-layer adds another risk factor. I haven't used it and it looks useful, but I can't help but think every piece of software you boot gets access to all other images on the same stick. And it gets access to any hard drive you have in your system.
By using separate USB sticks, at least you know for sure they can't mess with each other's data.

Whatever is on the ISOs is worthless, nothing is being saved there (I use no persistence). So the point can be only the transport partition, where indeed there can be problems if it's not wiped properly, but this is expected.
And I use the images without internet when safety is important.

So the only way E2B could steal data would be to save it somewhere temporarily (probably not onto the transport partition, since that one gets wiped often) and hope it gets the chance to send it "home" (quite difficult/unlikely imho)
But, again, I may be missing something and if it's so, please tell.

3219  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BITSTAMP exchange biased rule that chased users away on: July 07, 2022, 01:24:10 PM
flip the mindset..

a $10 fee a month is a way to say "stop using bitstamp as a bank account long term", the advice is and should be to take your funds out and own your own crypto in your own wallet.

Well, it also means that if one wants to buy or sell only every couple of months, he better closes the account, creates a new one and does KYC.. every time? I find it counter productive, nobody will do that.
So you either day trade (basically) on Bitstamp, either go and find another exchange (and yes, keep most of the funds on your own wallet, obviously). And with this move I think that day traders will also leave.

Hence instead of "stop using bitstamp as a bank account long term" this will easily translate into "stop using bitstamp"
3220  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BITSTAMP exchange biased rule that chased users away on: July 07, 2022, 12:59:44 PM
They are not to be trusted as I considered all of these act as theft. How can you charge such ? Who does that ?

That's correct. It's an idiotic move, since the inactives will not know and would just lose that money. It's indeed very close to stealing.
I find it a desperate move, caused probably exactly by the fact people are no longer trade much there. But not problem, really, there are plenty of more welcoming exchanges - with or without KYC.

this morning they lifted the rule

It doesn't matter. They've just lost a huge amount of credibility and I expect people continue to leave in big numbers. And this means lower liquidity, hence one more reason for the users leave.
