3203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Number of Transactions touching All Time High on: October 31, 2014, 11:21:47 PM
you will see that the vast majority of the Top 100 addresses are gambling sites. If that ratio continued down for say, the TOP 1,000 or 10,000, it could bring you thinking that maybe there's a vast amount of low value gambling and a small number of very large whale/mining transactions, with a few pizzas and Overstock sheets in between.

That's irrelevant.
The point is that Bitcoin could technically perform the job of the UK CHAPS system, with 100% accuracy, reliability, timeliness and security. This is very significant, even if current transactions are not anywhere near the same economic value as CHAPS ones.

Hey, I was neither defending the CHAPS system which, like most fiat banking 'services' is expensive, unreliable and monopolistic nor was I doubting the integrity of the blockchain system, ignoring scalability issues.

Price does not reflect true health of Bitcoin, but number of transactions do.

The "true health" of Bitcoin is continually increasing adoption and use outside of Bitcoin itself, which you can't assume from a gross transactions chart.

3204  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin isn't just a digital currency and payment system. It's not the new dolla on: October 31, 2014, 10:28:48 PM
What is it exactly?

It's a thing to make portentous statements about.
3205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Number of Transactions touching All Time High on: October 31, 2014, 10:02:09 PM
CHAPS is only one of three payment systems in UK banking, those figures don't include the cheque/debit card sector or direct debit payments at all, so you are really comparing apples and oranges.
You can read what you like into charts, some people are looking at the current price chart and seeing $1000 in the future, others $1....

Compare this
https://blockchain.info/charts/n-transactions?timespan=30days&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=
with this
https://blockchain.info/charts/estimated-transaction-volume?timespan=30days&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=
(just a random month, although most recent)
and you could say that the average BTC transaction is recently worth between $500 and $1200.
Then look at this one
https://blockchain.info/popular-addresses
and you will see that the vast majority of the Top 100 addresses are gambling sites. If that ratio continued down for say, the TOP 1,000 or 10,000, it could bring you thinking that maybe there's a vast amount of low value gambling and a small number of very large whale/mining transactions, with a few pizzas and Overstock sheets in between.
3206  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Esoteric Investments, LLC (up to 1% earnings) on: October 29, 2014, 01:06:51 PM

We trade bitcoins in alt coin markets and grow your bitcoin deposit by 0-2% daily, at this moment we aren't concerned with making you money in the form of USD or any fiat dollar. If that's what you are looking for then don't use our service because you will be very disappointed. Some people really believe in Bitcoin and want it and more of it no matter its current fiat value. Others are concerned with the fiat value, but also hold a stake just in case bitcoin surges to the 1000s again. These are the people that will be interested in what Esoteric has to offer currently. We are not in this business currently for the people who want more money, (that's in store for the future) we're in it for the people who want more bitcoin.

This is pure semantics, you are supposedly in the business of asset growth using a trading mechanism involving bitcoin and alts to generate profit. How that profit is denominated is irrelevant.
What is relevant to anyone who wants to take your advice "Sit back and enjoy the show, hopefully we can earn you some money along the way" is:
A) You are actually trading, which is why transparency is important, otherwise the ponzi accusations will not stop.
B) If you are likely to be shut down by a regulatory body, which is why your vagueness on that subject is concerning.
C) That your trading system is sustainable and not just a 'flash in the pan'. Hints of "we'll do anything to make money" diversification don't inspire confidence.

You showed poor judgement in botching your launch by ambulance chasing BT survivors. Butthurt sensitivity to people's legitimate skepticism since then hasn't helped your cred either.
I have no idea whether an investment with you would be anything more than a pure gamble and your 'make it up as you go along' approach certainly isn't helping.

3208  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitcoin-trader.biz on: October 29, 2014, 10:44:32 AM
I dont think you should invest a lot in it. Pay attention to what you do and stay cautious. Websites like these can disappear any time

If that's the thread title website you are referring to, bitcoin-trader.biz, is it nice and comfortable in the cave you've been living in?

Bitcoin is a commodity, not unlike gold. How often have you seen an advertisement "Put your gold to work, earn x% per day for depositing gold with us" ?

Your investment is the bitcoins themselves.

+1 on that, how many people would send their gold to someone anonymous on the promise that it would be returned doubled in a month?
This is the 'because Bitcoin' magic effect at work. From looking through the list of BT victims, the majority seem to have come from the fiat world and allowed themselves to be convinced that these patently absurd ROI's can be achieved simply 'because bitcoin'.
Life isn't like that.
3209  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: CRYPTONYX | Official thread | Cryptonyx.com on: October 29, 2014, 09:29:14 AM
Yeah, sure.
I guess with your large overhead because of the number of experts you have working for you, plus the incredible interest that you pay, you must have some fantastically profitable legal and illegal revenue streams. If I was that clever, I wouldn't bother with investors, just keep all that profit for myself, but I guess I'm not that clever.
Anyway, if it's ok with you, I think I will pass on this opportunity to double my coin in three months, and continue my fruitless search for an investment that doesn't involve sending it to someone who I know nothing about, doing stuff they keep secret. Stupid, I know.
BTW when you do get 'hacked', 'compromised' or set into action whatever other exit strategy you have planned, do you think you could do us all a small favor and steal the money of the very early "investors" as well?

3210  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Arbitrage 2014-15 on: October 29, 2014, 08:58:20 AM
Yeah, I guess we all go with our "own belief".
Mine is very simple when it comes to giving untraceable funds to anonymous people. It may be old fashioned, but when something looks too good to be true it probably is, and I put into that category "systems" that promise ROI's within very short periods of time.
I also believe that BT was a pure, premeditated ponzi scam, organised by professional criminals who presented a plausible scenario which sucked in a large number of gullible people, with the active assistance of promoters who knew exactly what it was. I would put the Wiermans of this world in that category.
You do what you do, my friend, and good luck to you.
3211  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Arbitrage 2014-15 on: October 28, 2014, 10:34:36 AM
I'm off to mining alt-coins in exchange for BTC so that I can grow my BTCz.

Good luck with that.

A couple of excerpts from the totally legit "profits train".

THIS IS ALMOST LIKE PRINTING MONEY ON DEMAND!

The system exploits the gaps and using arbitrage techniques to take advantage of almost bulletproof profit opportunities.
It’s time for you to take action and secure your spot.

Hmm, arbitrage, guaranteed profit, heard that somewhere before...

You Were Referred By
dwierman@gmail.com

D. Wierman..?
This would be Duncan Wierman. He was acting real strange on the Bitcoin Trader FB page after they ran off with the money.
It seems that his 'Bitcoin Investing Profit System' involved signing everyone and anyone up for BT and pocketting the referrals.
But, hey, a "house flipping" advisor is just the sort of person you need for guidance on Bitcoin investment, no?
3212  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: CRYPTONYX | Official thread | Cryptonyx.com on: October 27, 2014, 08:51:48 PM
What happened to your "rate us" page which linked to all the HYIP monitor sites?
Or maybe you are not a HYIP?
Oh no, of course you aren't a ponzi HYIP,  because you take the money and  "the income is derived by experienced traders, speculators, miners and entrepreneurs."
BUT
"We do not disclose our methods."

Sounds legit to me.

Edit.
Bitcoin doesn't belong to any one, it's ours, even criminals can use it but criminals are and always will be the minority.
The same as bitcointalk.org love bitcointalk because of freedom of speech, love bitcointalk because of IGNORE button.

bitcointalk is becoming the talkgold.com of crypto currencies. No credibility at all.

If that's true, it may have something to do with the number of shills on here who would recommend and pump ebola if it made them a few coins.
3214  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitBillions GBBG on: October 25, 2014, 07:10:51 PM
I have looked in on BitBillions occasionally for a while, a really strange slow-mo pyramid of vague promises and missed deadlines with almost cult undertones, accompanied by this surreal echo chamber thread.
I think that this is showing signs of desperation now, it's Tagville time soon.

Our CEO is planning to buy all unsold Co-Founder positions at the end of December. One of our staff asked him why and we though his answer was worth sharing. He said, ‘When people see what we are going to launch in January they are going to be clamoring for Founder and Co-Founder spots. I believe people will be offering $1500 to $2000 for a Co-Founder spot very soon after we launch the Matrix. The price will only increase over time. So, why not buy up all the remaining ones for $50 and make some easy money?”

Would you buy a used anything from this man?

3215  Economy / Gambling / Re: HYIP AWARENESS - Which are HYIPs and which are not. on: October 23, 2014, 09:41:46 PM
The acid test for me is the transparency, or lack of it, about how they are actually supposed to be making big enough profits to pay such high roi without being a ponzi. If it's vague "arbitrage" or magic miners that you can't check, then it's red flag for me.
There are many investments that are high yield in the fiat world, but the reverse of secrecy about method of earning applies. If you are offering +++% then any prospective investor would expect to be told exactly what you were doing, and how you were doing it and nobody else could. Then you take an informed risk and make your choice. The risk with a ponzi is different, calculating or hoping to get in and out early, second guessing a criminal's attention span.
Some people make a living at this and usually shill the threads where they are involved and this place seems to be full of them.
This site ticks all the classic ponzi boxes:

"Trial period" or private investors only before the brand new website appears.
Generic UI.
Magic formula.
Anonymity.
Meaningless content.
HYIP sites links.
Referral program.
Incentive to lock in for longer term.

Not entirely true, you have also deleted your promise of a report on your 'business' due to be posted today.
3217  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Niothor now runs a HYIP on: October 22, 2014, 10:19:01 AM
I am really confused here, niothor, either you are using depositors' money to make a trading profit and pay divvy with, or you are using it to pay older depositors. If it's the former, fine, good luck. If it's the latter, then you are a ponzi operator and a thief.
You don't sound like a stupid person, you know the difference between the two, which is it?
3218  Other / Archival / Re: . on: October 22, 2014, 10:10:13 AM
Guys, quit trolling. Either invest or STFU. If you don't want to risk anything just don't. No need to come in here and bash the guy.

If he is paying out with new depositor's money and not with profit from some sort of trading, then he's a fucking thief and a liar and deserves bashing.
3219  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Esoteric Investments, LLC (up to 1% earnings) on: October 21, 2014, 08:44:03 AM
Why start a new thread?
There's one already going with details of how their management have already been on here shilling with a sock puppet account.
Why should we ask you to ask them questions?
Aren't referral ref posts just spam?

It would be an interesting thing to see how many people who got ripped off by the obvious Bitcoin Trader Ponzi also made fun in the past of the folks who got ripped off by the equally-obvious Ponzi of Butterfly Labs.

From what I can make out, most BT 'investors' wouldn't know a Monarch from the Queen of England.
The Bitcoin Connection was cleverly used by the scammers to appeal to a certain demographic of wannabe coiners (like myself), who could convince themselves that the ROI was quite achievable because Bitcoin is fucking magic. Everybody could 'see' how easy arbitrage is lol.
It was slick and easy to understand, just the sort of thing to name drop at the mocha bar or family gathering (wow, look at the referral % too!) and it worked spectacularly well.
It's being written up as a Bitcoin Scam. It wasn't. It was a fiat scam using the magic word as bait.
