If SHA256 is suddenly useless then bitcoin will be probably the minor problem: the whole world, banks etcetc use SHA

If you change the name of a thing, the thing doesn't change.

Calling interest "rental charge" or whatelse doesn't make the fact that it is still interest change.

Sure, maybe god is happier if you don't call it interest but it's the same
3226  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: is this "OK" to mine with?? on: April 30, 2012, 08:15:37 PM
An ATI card, a powerful one. Like 5870/5970/6970/6990/7970
(more than one maybe)

Or a FPGA (more than one maybe)

3228  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to keep your bitcoins?? bitcoin wallet or mtgox bitcoinica etc on: April 30, 2012, 08:06:58 PM
Keep your btc in your wallet, but make sure you do not lose it. Backup it!
And make sure no one steal it from you, encrypt it (and don't forget the password)
3229  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: What are the best CPU and GPU miners? ▲▼ on: April 28, 2012, 04:28:51 PM
You can mine Litecoin with GPU now, so cpu mining is useless
3230  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Resisting the "Completely Open Source" Attack or: Swarm Social Dynamics on: April 28, 2012, 04:24:32 PM
Go, do your own version of client and bitcoin. Call it ForpCoin
No one will use it. You will be alone in using it. What then?
3231  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: AMD Catalyst 12.4 Released today. Thoughts? on: April 28, 2012, 04:21:16 PM
It's funny how at each new driver, mh/s goes down.
Maybe it's ATI way to tell us "use fpga"  Cheesy
3232  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Evil of religion, and investment into IBB, Islamic Bitcoin Bank on: April 28, 2012, 04:06:33 PM
->Implying a 0% interest bank exist. But oh there are other fees, their name is not interest but you still pay
No interest=you loan, the guy can't repay, you fail.
3233  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Evil of religion, and investment into IBB, Islamic Bitcoin Bank on: April 28, 2012, 04:00:09 PM
The name of the bank imply that it is somehow related to a religion (and not to the other) and so there is a god (but not zeus or odin or thor) wich is not exactly... convincing
Add to that all the problems that religion always create and then you see why i am not convinced at all by that "bank"

After all no one would trust a flying spaghetti monster bank!
3234  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: An Argument Against The IBB on: April 28, 2012, 03:51:27 PM
A bitcoin bank based on religion? Not really sure I understand this.. I mean what is the difference between the 'Islamic bitcoin bank' and ..say.. the 'flying spaghetti monster bitcoin bank' ?
+1 to this

also lol at 0% interest BUT there are other fees that are like interest but are not interest so god is happy and you don't go to hell

Please stop spreading FUD  Roll Eyes P2pool is open source and there is nothing suspect in the code. Do you know what variability and luck is?
3236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MicroCash isn't a CryptoCurrency on: April 25, 2012, 01:54:28 PM

Hang on here - MicroCash isn't peer2peer and has absolute central control.

This thing isn't a cryptocurrency in any meaningful sense, it's a central database with a pretty client attached.

CoinHunter knows that most users understand little about how these things work. He intends to fool them with a pretty GUI and steal their coins with taxes they probably won't understand either. Apart from that the network is grossly insecure both to outside attacks and acts of CoinHunter.

3239  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CoinLab obtains $500k in seed funding on: April 25, 2012, 01:44:13 PM
It's good to see new companies using Bitcoin, but I can't help but think this idea is a bit daft.

Rather than burning through energy and CPU/GPU cycles to earn a few quid, would it not just be better to ask for Bitcoin micro payments each month?

EDIT: To add, gamers are likely to have non-optimised rigs, compared with the next generation mining kit too, making it pretty wasteful. It is still good to see companies embracing Bitcoins though.
It would be better if gamers know what bitcoin is, how to use it and have them

But since almost no one know Bitcoin (let alone using it), the idea is nice.

The gamer just need to play and press "mine" and he will receive ingame bonus as time passes. That's all.

Then maybe hardcore gamers will discover bitcoin and pay for that in bitcoin, but it will be a later step
