I already closed this port on my Firewall.

The point is that in the german wiki, there is still stated that Bitcoin communicates over port 8333 and 6667, if it still does, I leave that entry, if not then I remove it.

So is port 6667 still used?

Well, Reddit you failed in being the first big site to accept bitcoin.

Wow, that's really great.

All: Hopefully we can expect more newbies showing up in the next few month. So check the newbie section frequently and be supportive.

Edit: Wow, just read the numbers in the link below. If bitcoin could only make 5% of this it would be huge.
3229  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to transfer 0.00095 without fee? on: November 15, 2012, 05:18:00 PM
Do you have it on a online wallet? If not, why don't you just export the privat key of the address that has the coins and take it over to the new wallet?
3230  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: More the 8 connections on: November 15, 2012, 03:38:33 PM
The client hasn't used IRC for a long time.  Keep that IRC port closed.

Ok, thanks, it's still stated here, that's the reason I opened this port.

https://de.bitcoin.it/wiki/FAQ#Muss_ich_meine_Firewall_konfigurieren.2C_um_Bitcoin_laufen_lassen_zu_k.C3.B6nnen.3F

So it's OK if I remove the port 6667 Entry?
3231  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: More the 8 connections on: November 15, 2012, 03:22:40 PM
If you have no Idea what that ^^^ means, read this: http://www.pcworld.com/article/244314/how_to_forward_ports_on_your_router.html

only difference is, that you have to forward pot 8333 & 6667.

What's with 6667? I only forward 8333 only (uPnP is disabled, this is done manually), and am getting ~50 connections.

6667 is the IRC Port. The Client should also look for connections on this port. So an or, not and and.

3236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikipedia: "Some criticize Bitcoin for being a Ponzi scheme..." on: November 15, 2012, 09:18:10 AM
I personally think that reason and proof that there should be written something different is still the way to go. We shouldn't argue, that Bitcoin is not a Ponzi, but that the sole statement "Some criticize Bitcoin for being a Ponzi scheme" is just not enough information.

In the English wiki there is stated:

Some criticize Bitcoin for being a Ponzi scheme in that it rewards early adopters through early Bitcoin mining and increasing exchange rates.[46]

(Rough) Translation:

Quote
Due to the huge advance in Price since 2010, Bitcoin is sometimes criticized to have the characteristics of a pyramid scheme. This is based on the expectation of exchange rate losses after the burst of a speculative bubble. Holders of Bitcoin where able to make huge exchange profits, but due to the nearly inevitability of a  speculative bubble burst, a transfer of monetary value, manly in US-Dollar and Euro from later adopters to early adopters takes place.

On the other hand, Supporter of the System argue, that due to the scalability, convertibility, scarcity and the clear recognizably, as well as its benefits in usability it provides a tangible benefit and therefore the advance in Price can be explained through network effects. The Price advancement (which result of a imbalance of the growth of supply and demand) are a compensation for the early involved parties for the high risk of failure in the beginning of the system. In time the curse may stabilize due to a saturation effect.

This whole part is already a approved part of the German wiki page and everything has it's reliable sources added. I'm sure that every Wikipedian would listen to such an argumentation.

My English is far from perfect, so someone would have to look over it.

If someone would be willing to overwork it and add it as a suggestion to Wikipedia, I'm happy to add the sources, they are mostly in English.

But I fear, with the insults and argumentation I have seen so far that we already have taken this discussion to a level where it has become to emotional to reason with the wikipedians.

If this is the case, well:

Thank you very much.

Currencies of the Future

Many people complain about government control of currency, but only a few do something about it. I’m not talking about movements to “audit the Fed” and such. I’m talking about real innovation that makes an end run around the government’s iron grip on the monetary system.

A few of us old folks might like to return to the days of slapping a silver dollar on the bar for a shot of whiskey, but the younger techno-savvy generation sees paying for their Negroni cocktail with virtual currency from their hand-held device. To serve this market, a new world of virtual currencies has popped up spontaneously.

Quote
...These might be considered currency entrepreneurs. They anticipate consumer needs and demands, and as is the case with any other good or service, these entrepreneurs recognized more salable goods before the majority of people...

...So while people contend that money must be this or must be that, or come from here, or evolve from there, Menger, the father of the Austrian school, seems to leave it up to the market. When a money becomes uneconomic to use, it loses its marketability and ceases to be money. Other marketable goods emerge as money. It’s happened throughout history and likely will continue, despite government wanting to freeze the world in place to its liking.

Which brings us back to Bitcoin, what the European Central Bank (ECB) calls in its latest report “the most successful — and probably most controversial — virtual currency scheme to date.”...

Quote from:  End
Here at LFB, we don’t know what tomorrow’s money will be. Digits and computer algorithms? Silver and gold coins engraved with someone wearing a hoodie, perhaps? What we know for sure is that we’re rooting for enterprising entrepreneurs to give the government a run for their money in the money business. Watch this space.
