I was just told that Moon Kim is competing in the biggest poker tournament of the year starting on July 7th in Las Vegas and finishing on the 16th.
He has promised to wear the Bitcoin T-shirt  every day of the competition.
First prize is more than $10,000,000 USD.

I will post photos when they are available.

Hey people before now I've been using Kiv's GUIminer but I got some brand new BFL singles that I need to use and I think cgminer is the most widely used and has bitforce enabled but I keep getting an error that I can't seem to find documented anywhere idk but here's the issue.  When I try to open this "cgminer.exe" it opens for a second or so then shuts down doesn't mine or anything just quits.  Also when I tried to build cgminer using the instructions in the "windows-build.txt" I get to the last step before running the "make" command in mingw the "CFLAGS="-02 -msse2" ./configure" command and I get and error message that I can't understand:

Code:
$ CFLAGS="-02 -msse2" ./configure
checking build system type... i686-pc-mingw32
checking host system type... i686-pc-mingw32
checking target system type... i686-pc-mingw32

checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for a thread-safe mkdir -p... /bin/mkdir -p

checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler works... no
configure: error: in `/home/XXXXX/cgminer-2.4.2-win32':
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details

and when I open the config.log it displays this:

Code:
$ config.log
./config.log: line 1: This: command not found
./config.log: line 2: running: command not found
./config.log: line 4: It: command not found

someone else when I made my own thread in the newb boards directed me to something he's written for ozcoin which is https://ozcoin.net/content/win7-cgminer-setup-guide.  I've tried that and it works but I get the same instant shutdown thing.  If someone could help me build and run this thing it would be much appreciated or if someone knows that the fix for my problems have been mentioned earlier in this or another thread it would also be greatly appreciated if you could tell me which thread so I can go and read through it and not trouble you guys any further.
its -O2 not -02      it's the Letter O not the number zero
3245  Economy / Speculation / Re: A Theory on what pirateat40 is doing on: July 08, 2012, 02:08:38 PM
Here's my theory:

Assuming pirate's operation is not a ponzi and he's not doing anything illegal, then he obviously wants the price of BTC to go down.

"I'd Gladly Pay You Tuesday for a Hamburger Today" - J. Wellington Wimpy

This famous quote is referring to the idea that people taking loans and paying interest are betting on the value of whatever they are borrowing to go down. In pirate's case he's betting on the value of BTC to go down.

Have you ever seen him say anything bullish? I see him talking about "risk management" saying that he is prepared for BTC to have no value in the future by using them in an analogy that refers to BTC as "pet rocks" here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=82849.msg918162#msg918162

Even if pirate wasn't betting on the price going down initially, if he gets enough loans in BTC, (which he already has) he will have enough volume to corner the market and have enough influence on the price to MAKE it go down.

This really isn't a risky move for him because if somehow the price of BTC rises out of his control, (which i find unlikely because he clearly stopped the rally today) then his business model either turns into a ponzi (when the only income comes from new investors) and he can just take all the BTC and run. or if he decides to do this legally, he already has enough influence on the price of BTC that i think he can make enough fiat through market manipulation to pay back his investors still with a lot of profit for him.

His investors are basically lending him BTC to sell for fiat to drive the price down.

Assuming this is the case, if I were an investor I would withdrawal my coins before the price makes any movements up or down, because both scenarios are risky for you.

Don't get me wrong, there is still potential to earn money through investing in BS&T as long as you get out in time. But, i think its a bad bet and, in any case, i think it's a bad thing for Bitcoin to have people "Centralizing" where the Bitcoins are. This picture here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=85687.msg1015662#msg1015662  clearly shows that the market is already backed up into a corner.

either way. whether i'm right or wrong. i still posted this in the right sub forum. It is definitely speculation
3252  Other / Off-topic / Re: There's no point in speculating anymore on: July 07, 2012, 04:09:26 PM
how is this off-topic??? i posted this in the speculation subforum and it got moved here instantly. maybe i should word it differently? i speculate that the price is going to stay at 6.66 for as long as pirate has so much influence over the price. I can't speculate how long that will be, but if i had to guess, its probably going to be at least a year.
3253  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: [Poll]Will you be switching to ASIC? on: July 07, 2012, 03:32:46 PM
wheres are the options "i dont have gpu's or fpga's but i plan on buying BFL-asic or non-BFL-asic"?
3254  Other / Off-topic / There's no point in speculating anymore on: July 07, 2012, 03:28:44 PM
Pirate is keeping the price at 6.66 and there's nothing anyone can do about it

http://webcast.web.cern.ch/webcast/play_higgs.html  i know i'm a little late on making this thread as the conference is over now because i was busy watching the whole thing. The conference revealed that many independent studies got a ~126GeV and 5 sigma result (1 in 3.5million chance of being wrong).  i know these are scientists so they claim that 1 in 3.5million is still inconclusive, but i think it's safe to say they found it.  This is HUGE news. I don't want to go into too much detail about how big of a deal this is, but this is going to make technology advance much faster and many other things. Do you think this could have any effect on the Bitcoin market? If so, what are your predictions and why?
