What do you think about Corsair HX1000i compared to the one mentioned in op?

It also works on 240 volt, and more importantly it possesses that silence mechanism of its fan.

What do you guys recommend still?

The corsair hx1000i is costly 170 to 200 for 1 unit  and  1 wont have enough power for the avalon6 or the antminer s-7

server psu's here with the fans recommended are far quieter then the s-7.

So a quiet expensive atx psu to run the s-7 does not make a lot of sense. you would spend about  3 x 180 to get 3  hx1000i's

they would run 2 s-7's

the dual 2000/4000 would be able to run 3 s-7's  and cost less.

in both cases the s-7's would be louder then the psu's

but if you want to run an atx with the avalon6 try the evga 1300 g2

it has power enough to run an avalon6 and is pretty quiet.

I am not anti atx but they are not so good for the newer power hungry asic machines.

I just got off the phone with Yan.

He will provide me with tracking this evening.

He is aware of our payments made for the 18 units total.

he said these should do 3600gh to  3700 gh at .3 watts per gh standard voltage.

So for those of you with an evga 1300 g2  these should be good to go.

now I have an interesting sidebar piece of info.

Kipper01  was nice enough to burn a mini sdcard that would work in the rasp pi model 2  the newest model.

I have been running my 2 ½ avalon 6's and  the fans and temps have been reworked with this  card.

What do you mean by fans and temps have been reworked on this version of software. The 3 I have I am running at 30%min fan to keep temps at 66-70. I thought the 72-77 was a little high with auto fan and 20% min setting. The metal brackets right around the fan were hot enough to cause a burn if held for more then 10-20 seconds. My ambient temp is 65f and miner reads incoming temp as 28-29.

So just curious what this custom version provides from what was shipped.

I like you was getting 74 to 77 with the oem sdcard in the older model rasp pi.

Kipper01 told me he was coing to try the rasp pi model 2 and load the image from the website.  it does not work on the older rasp pi's

I asked him to mail me a good mini sdcard for the rasp pi model 2  I tested it at  freq 500 and fan 20  and when the unit would get to temp of 70 fans ramp and cool back down. to 67 68.

Since I burned 1 hash board with  the 75-77 internals I prefer the 68-70 internals.

I since discovered if  set at 42% my temps stay flat at 65-66  and I  never ramp up the fans are steady at

I think the mini sdcard for the new rasp pi  adjusts fan speed so you stay under 70f.  So far I can not find an other difference from the older rasp pi

I have 155 in 22 hours

we should be 132 in 22 hours

so I get 170 give or take 3 blocks.

170/144 = 1.18  x 859 =  1013 ph   last adjustment we did an average of 970ph four days in a row.

So while we are ahead of the 859 ph from last difficulty.  we are  also doing our first 1000ph+ day

32526  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: January 29, 2016, 08:55:35 PM
Well, there's something interesting that I found, after some testing with 40% minimum fan speed:

With the normal fan direction of blowing air out of the miner (stock), the temps are:
30 53 69

I then switched the fan around so it blows air inside and out from the back (reversed), and the temps are:
41 55 60

It lowered the 3rd number down dramatically, but it increased the 1st number up.

Any thoughts?

The first number is the intake temperature.  The second and third number are the left and right side temps.  Hope that helps.

You are blowing hot air out of the intake which is why the first number increased

Wouldn't that mean it's actually better if the fan is running reversed flow then? Since the 1st number wouldn't matter because it is just the intake temperature. And the 3rd number is actually running cooler and the 2nd number averages out and is still below the 3rd number. So overall running the fan in reversed flow actually keeps them running cooler than the other way within the same fan speed testing.

After running it reversed flow over night, the temps now read:
43 59 62

Before, it would read about:
30 53 69

For some reason, the 3rd number is always higher running it the normal way (maybe due to it's internal design), but with the reversed fan, the 3rd number is running lower and the 2nd number balances out.

I wonder if they actually did a side by side test when they designed the Avalon 6, because so far, to me, it seems like running the fan in reversed flow makes more sense of keeping the miner cooler.

P.S., I was able to set the fan speed to 38% now, since it is running cooler, and it doesn't ramp up the fan speed anymore when it has a constant fan flow of 38% minimum. Setting the fan speed at default 20% will be too low, the fan will ramp up and down due to lack of air flow. Maybe this is why we get the random ramping fans because it gets hotter due to the low fan speed, and it ramps up to cool it fast, then back down, then back up, etc. But if the fan is like at a 38%-40% minimum, then it gets constant air flow inside to keep it cool enough where it won't need to ramp up as much.

not sure reversing is a good idea.  my burnt cap was as far as it could be from the fan.

So it was near the intake and the cooler air. it still popped. ,but  here is something I do think you are doing right the 38% fan setting is better then letting the ramp up and down.
the orginal rasp pi card set temps to 75 the newer cards set temp to 68-70  so if 38% keeps you steady at 70 I think that is best.
32527  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What Power is Used for the Bitmain APW3-12-1600 PSU Series on: January 29, 2016, 08:48:58 PM
you don't need that pdu   it has 14 plugs  and costs an arm and a leg.

you want this  for 30 amp breaker

L6 30r

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leviton-Nema-L6-30-Locking-Receptacle-30-Amp-250-Volt-/321924264154?

and this for your pdu

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pulizzi-Eaton-Powerware-ePDU-T982F3-Series-Monitored-PDU-T982F3-F-SL-109-240V-/321000822839?

this is a 200 dollar pdu new it is fused and the plug will match the  receptacle above.

it can run 4 s-7's  2 on each fuse.

the 30 amp 240 volt breaker can handle 5800 watts safely

you can do 4 antminer psu's since you will be drawing about 1400 watts on each one.
32528  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Large review of Finksy/J4bbrwock server psus compared to ATX psu- photos up on: January 29, 2016, 08:15:04 PM
A big key to either kilo's mod or my mod is as follows

my new fans use 25 watts do the job of cooling for 1 2980 or 1 2880 stock oem fans use 60 watts

so my mod drops 20 db and 35 watts

35 x 24 x 30 = 25 kwatts per month or around 2.50 usd a month

kilo17 mod uses    25 watts  for 2x 2980's or 2x 2880's

stock would be 120 watts  so a 95 watt savings 95 watts a month =

95 x 24 x 30  = 68 kwatts per month or around 7 usd a month

I will add my white fan to  my dual 2000/4000 psu.

some time next week  I will demo a really good fan control for these mods

sound level in my basement/den/HT running 2 ½ avalon6's  using the dual 2000/4000 watts  psu with breakout boards

units are in the garage

room for three more units

i turned the 2980 on and the noise level in my den is 38db.

32530  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Lifetime pool luck for antpool vs kano.is or why aren't you mining with kano.is on: January 29, 2016, 07:00:17 PM
So I created this thread on Jan 23rd  pool was at 12ph it is now at 15ph.

pool was at block 462 now at block 478

luck was 104 percent now at 105 percent.

So some people looked at data and switched here.  Good  it means some people can follow the math.

Here are the blocks made since this thread started.

478   395589----25.41921514
477   395570----25.55367288 ---------0.97288802 running fees total
476   395547----25.41797096 ---------1.39085898
475   395526----25.08867424 ---------1.47953322
474   395454----25.15668552 ---------1.63621842
473   395413----25.05953458 ---------1.69575300
472   395410----25.08223258 ---------1.77798558
471   395269----25.39623988 ---------2.17422546
470   395200----25.37273511 ---------2.54696057
469   395103----25.14451370 ---------2.69147427
468   394970----25.40052943 ---------3.09200370
467   394915----25.21982920 ---------3.31183290
466   394899----25.42805777 ---------3.73989067
465   394867----25.12545889 ---------3.86534956
464   394856----25.05731858 ---------3.92266814
463   394817----25.14775137 ---------4.07041951

so these 16 blocks are 16 x 25 = 400 + 4.07041951 total =

404.07041951  kanos fee is .9%

so 404.07041951 x .991 =

 400.43378573441

if you use antpool  PPLNS   it would be 16 x 25 = 400

The antpool no fee is deceptive  as they do not give you the fees earned by the block.

If you used ant pool [PPS] it would be 16 x 25 = 400 x .975 = 390

So:

  kano.is          =  400.433785
antpool PPLNS =  400.000000
antpool PPS     =  390.000000

these do not account for luck  these are fee structure numbers

they favor kano

when blocks go from 25 to 12.5  the numbers will favor kano more.

Since the tx id block earnings  will rise  and the block rewards will ½ .

BOTTOM LINE TRULY FAVORS MINING WITH KANO.IS

ps: I get zero $ or BTC for this thread

But you do get paid by keeping up your post count however that may be.. Nothing wrong in that.. since we are being transparant in all Wink Can i ask what Bitmain pays you to do the lengthy threads on their machines?  Hell maybe this is a profitable gig.. idk

Best Regards
d57heinz

The numbers are always going to favor kano.is no matter how you slice it.  The pool doesn't mine empty blocks like ant does.  Further as you pointed out, kano.is includes transaction fees for miners whereas ant does not.

Comparing Kano to antpool is like comparing apples to oranges at this point..  The obvious ethical standards antpool shows vs kano is why i would choose kano if the luck was only 70% and ant was 130 %  at this point if kano no longer becomes an option for whatever unforeseen reason.. Solo would have to be the way to go for me.. I'm tired of wading thru all the bs that isn't necessary and is most likely what deters so many from getting what btc is all about..

Best Regards
d57heinz

@d57heinz

Sure you can ask.

I will tell you a full breakdown for the last  year I received  from bitmain
1 s-5 for free from bitmain I wrote a review on it in Dec of 2014 and part of Jan 2015.

I will even tel you what Avalon gave me for the thread on Avalon 4.1 I wrote a long interview on it around dec 2014 - jan 2014.

They supplied me with a free 4.1 and 1 discounted 4.1

And for the massive sp20 thread I wrote on my own I got nothing.  But once people responded to it well I got 3 sp20s for the price of 2.

All in all I believe I have been given about 4k in gear over the last 3 years.

I most likely earned about 7btc for posting since 2014.
To be fair about posts I made about 300 posts a month from Aug 2012 to April 2014. No signature fees

Since then I make about 500 posts a month.  with  signature fees

I have given back more then 1 btc on my diff thread.
I have given back more then 1 btc of free hash on my compac stick club.
I have given away 4 compac sticks for contests.

ON the s-7  bitmain owes me money and won't give it to me.
ON the Avalon6 I made 0 despite running 2 group buys.
In fact I am still waiting on the replacement board  that I paid 350 usd for.

Lastly in the server psu world  I got 3 servers last year to run reviews on

and currently I am doing a review thread  for finksy/j4bberwock   in which I spent about 600 usd out of my pocket returned 2 psus  for 700

and was given about 200 in gear from finsky/j4bberwock.

And if I was to be paid by the post I would be getting about 50% more then I do asking for the flat rate.

Trust me my motives on this site are very simple I make an effort to not go broke promoting BTC.

For me huge profits are not going to happen plain and simple.

32531  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Runaway miner acquisition "syndrome" on: January 29, 2016, 02:04:04 PM
lots of good points.

All my gear will be up for sale in april

I have to do this every year.

My power costs have a summer jump from about 9 cents (counting free heat)

to 18 cents counting cooling in May.  So all my gear has to move in April.

The current diff is 120 based on 859ph of hash.

Last jump for a four day period we averaged 970ph.

So without any new stuff  we could move from 120 diff to 135 diff

All the yoyo moves have happened since bitfury put up the 40 megawatt plant.

I suspect they are the biggest force in diff rise.

avalon6's from blockC are about 1700 and a new amount came in yet to be sold and not all online

so 1700 x 3.3 th = 5.6 ph  if they sell all their other new shipment it will be about 7ph more that is only 12.6ph

s-7's sell and sell a lot  over 70ph based on bitmaintechs  btc addy's  but that is only 80ph

I think bitfury's plant is the driving force of growth.

sept 4   407 ph
jan 26   859 ph

so 452 ph added but more like 600ph

I believe bitfury runs 200 to 350 ph of this growth
I believe they see saw the hash due to the heat it makes

the tractor trailer sized container can handle 1.5 megawatts of power.
All the evidence I see point to them using these or a prototype of these.

32532  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Lifetime pool luck for antpool vs kano.is or why aren't you mining with kano.is on: January 29, 2016, 01:15:12 PM
So I created this thread on Jan 23rd  pool was at 12ph it is now at 15ph.

463   394817----25.14775137 ---------4.07041951

so these 16 blocks are 16 x 25 = 400 + 4.07041951 total =

404.07041951  kanos fee is .9%

so 404.07041951 x .991 =

 400.43378573441

if you use antpool  PPLNS   it would be 16 x 25 = 400

The antpool no fee is deceptive  as they do not give you the fees earned by the block.

Kano I've been using the stratum.kano.is pool in first place and de.kano.is in second, but my connection to the DE server its about 100ms faster, should I move DE to first option?
I'm asking because DE pool server its still in beta, right?
Thanks.
Yeah nodes are still in beta ... and that restart just crashed and burned so a lot of people failed over Sad
Only affected everyone for a couple of minutes and all is back ok again.
Numbers are getting back up to where they were, before the restart was at 15PH now over 14PH

Edit: ok back now over 15PH (higher than before the restart)

15ph is nice but I would love us to be 5% of the network.  So 859 x .05 =  42.95ph  we have some work to do.

Nice Phil thanks!  Functionality and safety.

The easiest upgrade to this is  use an almost empty roll of bounty paper towels instead of the next to empty roll of Scott tp. Grin

And saving 35 watts 24/7/365 adds up. 25 kwatts a month at 10 cents = 2.50 in 1 month and  30 bucks a year.

plus those freaking screaming fans have been halted.

I will revisit this mod as I have a real upgrade in mind. (fan speed controller} so that these do 3000 rpm not 3500 rpm

I also want to push the psu at closer to 2800 watts it would be nice  if this mod can do 2800 watts at 3000 rpm.

Still 2400 watts at 3500 rpm is okay.

take shape the slit on the side will be taped

those grills will protect you from the blades which will move at 3500 rpm  loud but not insane like the stock fans.

note the pcie to the fans is protected and on the other end the roll of tp blocks air so that all the air hits the psu

the back of the breakout board has live 12 volt power

this flap shields that back of the breakout board

roll of butcher twine

the fans and the fan filters

ypu only need 1 of the two parts the none filter part.  these are a perfect match same company

look at post above  now wait for it
here it is the tp roll

and here is the other end og the pcie cable

that string is butcher twine  as the finksy/j4bberwock board does not attach to the bigger vent holes in the 2980

zip ties work but I did not have any long thin ones the back of these boards have exposed 12 volt power so non conductive ties are needed.
