3261  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] TREZOR Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 23, 2015, 08:54:43 PM
@ OP - I have a Trezor & know pretty much all I need to know about it but I just spent 5 minutes reading everything you typed & that's one of the most thorough threads/reviews I've seen on here.

A lot of people will find this thread very helpful, if I was permitted to give you positive trust for the service you've provided the community with here I would.

Thank you for the kind word's.  My goal is to do this for quite a few wallet's as I feel it's a important thing at this point.   I currently have 2 wallets done, and a 3rd on it's way.  So I'm hoping to make it easy for someone wanting a hardware wallet to look at a few threads and get a good compassion.

I can tell you no other wallet has the following that the TREZOR has.  It has created quite the following on bitcointalk.  Which it does rightfully deserve with such a great not only device but code behind it.
3262  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are paper wallets really secure? on: December 23, 2015, 08:36:50 PM
i created my wallet on bitaddress website and its still safe and not hacked, my bitcoins are not stolen so i guess its pretty much secure though i dont have a lot of coins to be honest, to be even more safer i believe the only option is to buy a hardware wallet and deposit your coins to it

I'm been playing with a few hardware wallets.  They really do add security without near as much possibility to screw up as paper wallets.  Hot wallets are kinda a different thing as they are needed for certain applications.

But honestly I make 0 money for everyone that does it. But look into hardware wallet, there are a few great choices out there.
3263  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: beginners be very carefull on: December 23, 2015, 08:34:28 PM
Do research before you invest in cloud mining. Never trust a site that cannot prove hardware.  Never trust one with a calculator that does not include difficulty.   And never trust one with wording like "forever". Those are 3 rules I think are important.

Also never let anyone push you into investment.  Research and sadly you will find there is a lot of ones out there that are just ponzi's.
3264  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How far does that green line go? on: December 23, 2015, 08:30:58 PM
So here I am at MacD in Leigh Park, and I got a free cup of coffee with part of my bean collection. It's not as strong as my usual MD, and there are any power points. But the WiFi seems to be much faster, I'll take a screen shop when I've got a full picture.

It was interesting at first. I couldn't log onto the web, and I didn't get a splash page. I loaded Bitcoin core and it sync'd without any problems. When I eventually got access to the web, it sent me a splash page, and now I can post. So what is the significancy of this? Well, if you don't get the splash page, then my guess is that it hasn't authenticated your account. So anything off the web will be completely anonymouse. Obviously it can't read cookies if it can't load web pages - is this true? It's so long since I did any web design, that I can't remember.

Most will not be able to do anything "bad".  But look at "rogue access points" if anyone has one of these set up at one of the places your going.... a splash screen could be a bad thing if they are trying to harvest logins, depends on what the splash screen asked for.

And they could have a page that looks real... but again it's sitting there to harvest passwords so it looks real but when you log in you don't go anywhere.  Chances are slim this is what is happening but you should be aware there are AP's like this if your using free ones so much.
3265  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How earn Bitcoins fast and free?? on: December 23, 2015, 08:26:48 PM
Do some trading but you can lose fast too  Grin

Trading is not for most of us. It is known most people lost money in stock market with day trading. The fee is too high.

As far as trading in digital currency the fee's normally are not the problem.  Problem is if you pick wrong you can lose just as quick as you can gain.  So it's a HUGE possible loss if coin is pump/dump.

Sadly there are only a few coins I view as decent coins.  A lot are just utter crap.  I like keeping in BTC myself and it may be a slow rise but I believe in it overtime.
3266  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestions for limiting "self-moderated" threads on: December 23, 2015, 08:21:24 PM
My suggestion is that users with under a certain number of posts (100?) should not be allowed to create self-moderated threads or close a thread.

This would avoid "hit and run" scams with the inability of a user to note such a scam or scammer in that thread.

I don't think this will help that much to be honest.  If person is under a certain rank with low activity, or not ... use escrow and it solves it.  You can not save everyone sadly some buy without using escrow from unknown... and they get burnt.  They have to want help ... and escrow is already in place.

The reason I would not do this is sometimes "self-moderated" is needed. I use it in certain thread's as one troll can ruin a thread that does not have it.   If it was not for trolls or people who want to advertise I would not use it myself.  But when I do a review you would be surprised  some people get joy out of being a troll, so self-moderated I'm able to keep thread going without the trolling.

Education for the people buying on "hit and run" scams is far better then some new limit.
3267  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Here's a converter that will turn your 120 volt US plug into 220 volt plug. on: December 23, 2015, 08:16:15 PM
I find this item scary as heck if someone plugs into standard 110/120 and uses it to start a 220/240 PSU.   The thing is they have the "CE" I can't tell but can anyone tell if that is the Chinese Export one? I know CE has two meaning's and one logo looks very close to the one just saying it's a Chinese Export.

The fact you can only get in china... scares me again as I'm guessing there is a reason no US company want's to be selling this thing.  I would not use it ever with my mining gear personally.
3268  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Pics of Large Miner Hosting Center Under Construction on: December 23, 2015, 08:09:21 PM
If you say they have a claim, it's normal to back it up.  It's not doxing... it's proof of what you claim.  To say "no I don't believe it's online and I'm not too keen on doxing myself either sorry" makes me put little belief in the suit.

It does seem some had trouble.  What I'm surprised is no one is saying anything in thread now It makes me wonder if they made it right, or if people just got tired.  We really don't know.  But I think you need to bring more then just a claim with old threads when making a accusation.  Where is current info?

you have to understand that asicspace had basically collapsed by mid-summer

so yeah the "trouble" reports you'll find are going to be months old and I really doubt that ours is the ONLY one that's still screwed up

but go ahead feel free to PM the other users who posted about issues and ask them if they're good now

I can't really do much more than bring attention to the issue. As I said it's everyone's own business what they do with it

There are multiple reports of sounding bad during first hosting place.  I do agree with that, I was not a customer so I cant really dispute it and am not trying to.

I'm just supervised if so many got burnt they would not still be in thread posting.  Normally when people get burnt the backlash follows the company in great numbers any time they try to operate.  And that is not here.  So just not sure what happened to other users, but I agree possibility of burning up a miner does not sound fun.
3269  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: I'm Set up follow the example, But i do not Successful ""Avalon6""" on: December 23, 2015, 08:05:35 PM
are you using a raspberry pi?

his rasp pi is fine.

@ op  put this pool in

   Pool1                              stratum+tcp://de.ckpool.org:3333

   Pool1Worker                    1JdC6Xg3ajT3rge3FgPNSYYFpmf53Vbtje

   Pool1 password                x

you may have a pool issue

if it mines at the above pool your pools are bad.

Of course just test for a few minutes since it is my pool.

if it mines we can try to figure out a good pool for you.

I do as you told, It show red led is the same.

Just for fun if you have a second sd card try the BlockC firmware in my first post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1257327.0 .  it is dhcp so should be easy to try out with not a ton of time.

I'm just curious what another image does if hardware still stay's the same.
3270  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S7 Failed Firmware Update on: December 23, 2015, 08:03:35 PM
Check the market thread.

Some one may be selling a controller.

Will a controller from a different batch work for a him? I'm guessing the hiccup happens because hardware wise the S7 are different (daughterboard) but the controller(BBB) should be the same?

well firmware can alter controller and brick it.  and the controllers do vary.  He said he was batch one.

So he needs a batch one controller that was not firmware upgraded.

Do they still support recovery via serial/usb?   I know long ago S3's did but was not sure on S7 bricks if there was a home option to fix or if shipping in is only choice.

But everyone reading this unless a firmware provides something really good, don't risk it for a update that has very little.  Just a high risk game on updates.
3271  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New startup with 250k, what should I invest in? on: December 23, 2015, 08:00:03 PM
Wait just a minute, how on earth did you manage to get 250k of funding without knowing what exactly youre going to do....Who in the hell invests that much in someone that is "stumped"??

To be fair he doesn't say 250k "what" he had to invest, it may have been satoshis ...

Re-read first post:

Hello,
I have acquired over 250k to the project and am stumped on which miners to purchase and the space to put them in. I fully understand the heating issues, and space is not an issue, but any type of advice is quite appreciated.
      Cheers

He specifically say's 250k or more.  So we do know he said that he had massive amount to invest not satoshi's.  I think you did not read through first page.

Also he is gone... no logging in.  So it really is not worth this thread getting bumped.  Chances are he left and is not investing, and did not have the cash.

Firstly, it was a joke (from me) so hardly worth worrying about, but I certainly did read the first post, as your quote shows he simply gave a number "250k" but no units, so he "may" have been referring to dollars or he "may" have meant cents, or Malaysian Ringgits, or satoshis, or ...

Anyway a joke that needs explaining obviously wasn't a very good one, I'll stick to the day job ... Wink

I'm missing the joke.  What part are you saying you were joking about?   I could be blind but I don't see anything remotely funny.

Only comment I see from you in quote is "To be fair he doesn't say 250k "what" he had to invest, it may have been satoshis ..."  And I don't see how that is funny at all... sounds like misinformation.
3272  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Usb miners that pay more than they consume in power on: December 23, 2015, 07:57:28 PM
USB miners is like the dumbest decision you'll ever make... They profit you literally nothing, especially with the difficulty rising quickly.

So you buy a stick from sidehack or  a reseller  cost in the USA 30-40 dollars.

Just 1  your point it at this pool

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1283990.0

if we hit a block you get .24- .25 btc

if you are running a pc 24/7  the extra power is  5 watts  about 4 kwatts a month about 50 kwatts  a year.

at 12 cents a kwatt 6 dollars   so for 1 year maybe 45 dollars and  2 years 51 dollars.

the chances are we will hit a block if we play for 2 years.

I plan on running mine for year's most likely.  I might sell a compac or two to pay for electricity eventually.  But as of now I'm just enjoying using them.

And I think the long term Phil mentioned really is important.  Talking about year's of running not just a week or two.   We stand much better odd's then some think by running for so long.
3273  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Small setup to learn about mining on: December 23, 2015, 07:55:27 PM
Maybe I've misunderstood things. I am under the impression that joining a pool teaches you how to join a pool. I wanted to learn more than that. I have no desire to become a professional miner, or even to get a return however small. It's the  process that I want to understand.

If you truly are doing it to learn I would suggest using a RPI and a compac.   Some might say a full miner... but with it there is so much GUI you don't do much.

As far as learning building the program in linux, getting a USB hub that works with PI, learning command lines, etc.  You just learn a lot more then point/click.  So I think a Raspberry Pi and with a compac is best but there are other options.

But if you just want to learn without the commands, or building software then a full size miner is much easier.
3274  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 18 to Jan 1 diff thread setup picks are now OPEN!!! on: December 23, 2015, 07:52:38 PM
Better then 20 percent but bitwsidom still not a 5 percent week:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    93,448,670,796
Estimated Next Difficulty:    105,249,700,370 (+12.63%)
Adjust time:    After 1244 Blocks, About 8.2 days
Hashrate(?):    710,030,778 GH/s

Price around 440 so not to bad there.
3275  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: December 23, 2015, 07:51:34 PM
I would pick........

A S7....
CUZ I CAN  Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool

Out of curosity when you say you pick S7 how are you showing that?  Have you ordered a lot of them?

That is kinda what I wondered today if this is just choosing without ordering... it really does not count for much.  But if it is choosing by ordering that shows something.

some new pics and updates on the main thread! https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1248914.0

Alway's love new pictures to look at Smiley.  Any idea when we will see one with the black color that was selected?

I'm looking forward to seeing that color on PCB.
3277  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: December 23, 2015, 07:44:18 PM
Yes definitely Luck.  My Batch 8 using the same 220V IBM 2KW won't change in hash rate by moving to 775 or 800M.  Have to increase the voltage to see some gain like what Phillip did.

There is no point in changing the voltage on a Batch 6, 8 or 9. They have a Buck Converter built onto the Hash board that controls the voltage sent to the chips. Good news is that at some point I am sure a mod will be available that will enable the Core Voltage to be adjusted.

Rich

It's kinda good and bad news.  It's good that there is a option someday there.   But bad that we really don't know how long till someone mod's it.   And with warranty I'm not sure how many will try during it or if after.  It will  be pretty obvious a mod on that if you needed warranty work.

I will be more positive on it's possibilities after I see it being modded.  Which I guess might not be that long depending on who is working on it.
3278  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: December 23, 2015, 07:41:32 PM
My first R1 with crazyguy mod had to be reset. Now I lost his wonderful mod. You are right that setting R1 to the default solo pool is not fun. I would rather take the 6 gh and add it to the attached compac. Oh the other thing is the compac doesn't work now without crazyguy mod. How to get it back since I paid for it.

My second R1 has a broken plug that when plugged in shortsout. No word from crazyguy yet however has anyone taken their R1 apart and can you show me the plug connection. This one has a working mod still intact can I copy what to port over to the good one?

Send a PM to CG he will give you a link to the Archive file that will enable you to put the code back.

Disassembly is not that easy, here is the post where I took mine apart.

I'm not sure on his policy on giving that file out.  But you are right he is one to contact.    In perfect world you select it during shipment and it's shipped to you with it on it.

He has always been a great guy on selling so I have a feeling he will take care of you. He really does seem to care about his customers.
3279  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer s7 issue on: December 23, 2015, 07:38:43 PM
I think its the chip inside... Do what @Rabinovitch has said and connect the chip using another cable from another one... If it works, then the problem lies in the cable not the chip...
Idk about frequency, maybe someone else can help

On chips on batch 8 right on top when you open the box is a paper making sure you look at chip's/heasinks.  If a heatsink would fall it could stop a few chips or worse depending on what happens.

I read from above buying from amazon.  At this point I don't think any 3rd party has warranty with bitmain, at one point they had official re-sellers..... but was long ago.  I highly suggest getting it direct from bitmain.   Even though it might seem small a 90 day warranty is very important to run it and make sure everything is ok.  As in all honestly you cannot tell that when you get shipment from say amazon just by opening box and looking if it's going to work long term
3280  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] TREZOR Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 23, 2015, 07:28:35 PM
I am seriously considering purchasing either a trezor or keepkey within the next month and would like to make a sound judgment. I'm leaning towards the trezor because i really don't feel like the bigger screen and little bit nicer build quality isn't worth $140. I could even buy a back up trezor with it.  Grin. I have two questions regarding the Trezor. Is there a specific reason why you choose the white one and what wallet do you use in conjunction with your trezor for what reason? Do you use the general Mytrezor webwallet, Electrum, ect.. for all your personal funds.
Thank you!  Smiley

Color is just personal preference. I like black because it looks cool and makes the screen pop but really all colors look fine. I started off using the myTrezor.com web wallet but often use Electrum now. Also Mycelium for Android. Remember if you set up hidden wallets with pass phrases you will not see the hidden wallets unless you use myTrezor.com, Coinprism, Encompass, Electrum or Mycelium. I like your idea of buying a backup.

The whit is just kinda the classic so it let me see what a lot of users are getting.  There is the other color's out there and it really is as said above personal preference.  No matter which one you get you still get the same great features.

On myTrezor wallet I started off with site I wanted to test and use it first.  It works really well.  You can have multiple accounts on it, so you can easily have BTC in different addresses for different purposes which for me is a big thing.   I like to keep my selling and mining, and signature different accounts.   I just have really started to use it below you can see a lot of the wallet from myTrezor site it allows a lot as far as a wallet to start with, very easy to navigate.  And comes with features such as signing and priority sending (send with higher fee so faster).   So really does have a lot.  I do plan on other wallets testing:

Also they have a really good comparison to other wallet types: http://doc.satoshilabs.com/trezor-faq/_images/compared_to.png .  If interested in TREZOR I suggest looking at it, I didn't post it as there is a LOT of features and would take up a lot of space which is good.

Again if anyone out there is using TREZOR I would love to hear your favorite features, how you feel about using, etc.   I feel users who have used long term really can contribute a lot in this type of thread.
