I was just a little worried because I have heard that Dave Carlon's MegabigPower was shut down by the PUD because of harmonics issue.
PUD is a good acro for them. every so often you read unsettling things about them and their power allocation policies. Don't live there so don't really follow them. A while ago the buzz was about them actively discouraging high-power density users like data centers and mining farms - or at least ones without political clout. They claim it is 'taking advantage' of the low-cost power and takes away power availability to smaller people. Riiiiggghttt....

Anywho thing is, power factor issues - and if needed, suppressing harmonics - can be addressed at the main feed from the utility using capacitors and/or reactors. Every so often you will see them on power poles, look like a bank of rectangular boxes with HV terminals. If serious enough that the utility might care it is a 1-time fix with analysis of issue and then installing the correction for it.

if there was a way to wire a plug from the S1 so i can plug it into my wall?
Do you see anything resembling an AC power connector on the miner? No.
The miners run on 12VDC. What provides that power? A PSU...

It is YOUR money.
It is YOUR risk.
Only YOU know your financial and infrastructure setups.
Why would you think that complete strangers with zero knowledge of your plans can help YOU decide?
Get some balls and make up YOUR OWN damn mind!

Bitmain will simply cut price on the s-9.
Let 'em. Mainly for the reliability factor I still would buy the Avalon's. Cut the s9 cost by 50% and ja, that would regain my attention - as long as they return to accepting BTC.

Until then, Bitmain who?
3265  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitcoin Mining and Harmonics? on: November 17, 2017, 03:49:50 AM
Where are people picking up this off-the-wall crap to worry about? Some New Age sites blatherin on about the Evils of Smart meters?

For at least a decade all but the most cheaply made low power computer PSU's have power-factor compensation (PFC) in them that mitigates it. ergo no issues with odd-harmonics caused by how switching supplies work. Various countries Energy regulations now mandate PFC for all non-industrial power supplies rated more than 500W output. Now the lingering specter of high K-factor loads is a scare sell for more expensive transformers where they are no longer needed.

Look in the Avalon 7 thread. Steve from Canaan said a few things about it last Monday or so. Target around 14THs and 1400w or so. They are still hammering out specs and the production processes. Target is closer to the s9 specs while still being more reliable than the s9.

A Barbie has been decapitated for the next block.
Assuming Lady Luck accepts pre-orders, I did my bit for Karma 2 months ago when I donated 22x retired s7's to Sidehack to work his majik on and then sell through asicpuppy @ the damn good price of $499 (all sold out now of course). I don't resell as part of the proverbial ROI exit plan - I donate my retired miners for that Fuzzy Warm feeling Wink A lot of Sidehacks 2PAC stick miners use harvested S5 chips from my farm.

Come on gal! Get more slaves interns to plow through your Good Deeds list!
I'm running two of your old S7s now - they're working great, and pointed to Kano of course.
cool and glad to hear it.
Ja I was seeing them pop up here while Sidehack was tweaking them and another showed up briefly 4hrs ago. Overall good machines and if I had the power budget I'd probably still have them. Now only 1 left, hacked to silence and sitting in our inspection area at work.

Glad they found new homes and all proceeds went to a good cause so win-win and Fuzzies for all

Ya listening to us Lady? Come on Blocks!
3268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Creating website that can mine on: November 16, 2017, 08:53:54 PM
Post in the altcoin areas where this belongs to get help.
This area is BITCOIN only and that cannot be mined on PC's unless it is just an academic exercise. Costs far more to run than any income you *might* receive. The BTC world left CPU/GPU mining behind in the dust years ago.
3269  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Good places where you can buy Bitcoin miners at a discounted bulk price. on: November 16, 2017, 08:48:13 PM
Hello,

Our company can sell Bitmain S9 Antminer 14TH/S in bulk at discounted price. Please contact us at cryptocashinvest@gmail.com.
Yer company does not even have a corporate email address and instead uses disposable gmail acts?
Riiiight... That just screams 'Trust us'.....
3270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPUs die after some time, MSI Afterburner issue. on: November 16, 2017, 05:05:58 PM
As Phil said - this an altcoin HW query, this area is BITCOIN only. Post in the right area for better answers 'cause BTC outgrew GPU's years ago.
3271  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: cryptopay doesnt process amounts with more than 4 decimals on: November 16, 2017, 03:41:11 PM
I d not use pre-pay services. I use Coinbase for exchange to Fiat.
Speaking of services, this is a Services question and ya should look/post in the Currency exchange section.
3272  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: cryptopay doesnt process amounts with more than 4 decimals on: November 16, 2017, 03:26:28 PM
No it is not ok and no other wallets have that limit. They may be doing it because it is a card and is how they make their money but nonetheless they are skimming off a large part of your earnings as a hidden fee.
3273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: mining software all full of trojans?? why? on: November 16, 2017, 02:24:17 PM
a. Learn how to use a Forum. This is a software question and belongs in the software section.
b. Learn how to ask proper questions: Name of the software you looked at?
c. Learn about computers in general. Good that you pay attention to malware warnings but - also know that some anti-virus programs automatically flag ALL mining software as suspicious even the the software is perfectly clean. They do this because *some* malware will use the code to run mining in the background so to be maximum 'safe' it is flagged.

Only download software - ANY software - only from official sources. If you trust the source then Virus warnings are *probably* false. CGminer, BFGminer and others are clean when downloaded from the Authors pages.
3274  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: cgminer and Radeon 6990 on: November 16, 2017, 02:09:07 PM
Hope you are doing this just for fun. Bitcoin outgrew CPU/GPU's almost 4 years ago so you are losing money by the bucketful using them to mine BTC.
3275  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Just bought a used s7. My first miner. Anything I should check? on: November 16, 2017, 04:17:44 AM
Depends. Is the s7 stock or has it been undervolted/underclocked? If UV/UC then it *could* be happy with 2 power cables per-board. Stock the s7 pulls 1200-1300w and needs all 3 PCIe power cables per-hash board.

have never seen any legitimate person talk to me about a Bitcoin transaction using anything but wallet addresses (e.g. 1BURGERAXHH6Yi6LRybRJK7ybEm5m5HwTr). Nobody needs to know where your wallet is stored, or if it's a Web wallet like blockchain.info supports.
Not only never seen - never WILL see. As you said the ONLY thing you need to receive BTC is a wallet address. In your example, the donation address for Sidehack and his ongoing miner dev projects  1BURGERAXHH6Yi6LRybRJK7ybEm5m5HwTr

For you to send BTC to someone all you need is their address to send to. There is no 'Friend' access function to wallets. Never EVER give someone else access to your wallet keys.
3277  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: First time miner. Need help with Antminer S7 and GekkoScience DL580 on: November 16, 2017, 03:50:27 AM
On the breakout use any PCIe plugs you want. They are all the same. On the miner, yes 1 cable to the controller and at least 2 cables (pref 3) to each hash board. Doesn't matter which on the boards, they are all tied together on the boards.

Pretty bullet-proof hook up.
3278  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: IEC cord Rating for 1 Antminer S9 with APW3++ 220v 50hz on: November 16, 2017, 03:45:57 AM
Given how very thin power cords are India, Asia, and many other countries best you can look at is the current (amps) rating.

Be very aware a cord's rating is the maximum amount of current that can be safely used FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME not with a constant load. You never ever want to push a cord to max for long periods of time. As you have found out - they get hot.

For loads running 24x7 like miners preferably a cord should be rated for 2x what a miner draws.

Any cord powering miners like the s9 or Avalons need cords rated for at least 13 amps, 15 is better.

And the s5+ was AFAIK Bitmain's introduction of the current s7/9/t9/altminers form-factor of being interlockable shoe boxes.

Still have 2x s4's sitting in upstairs storage at work. Love those things. Good looking, could be turned down to be moderately quiet, but now just too damn hungry.
