3261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I recovered my wallet from 2014 and saw how close I was to being a millionaire on: January 06, 2022, 08:59:34 PM
You didn't know that bitcoin would go this far, it's not good torturing yourself over what's already been done. Also, it's not too late to be a millionaire, bitcoin still has a long way to go so you can still get in and hodl for a really long time and wait for to grow exponentially over the years.

This is exactly the way to look at things in my opinion as well.  When I first found bitcoin it was around $200 or less.  When I first bought in to bitcoin, it was something like $225.  If I look back at all of the bitcoin I spent over years, had I held it all then I would likely be a millionaire.  But that's really not the way to look at it.  First off bitcoin is a currency, so it's meant to used/spent.  Secondly as a financial advisor I am ultra aware of the importance of diversification.  Also, I have bills to pay and so do others.

These things need to be kept in mind!
3262  Other / Archival / Re: Are Banks afraid of Crypto adoption? on: January 06, 2022, 07:30:01 PM
Personally I think that it is a bit of both.  I think that they somewhat fear or don't like bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, but I also think that they see a lot of financial opportunity for them.  I mean as of right now you still need to exchange your bitcoin/cryptocurrency for fiat currency.  So banks are still needed and it seems to me that they will be needed for quite some time.

I think most banks don't see much of a threat at the moment.  I think it's more governments who fear/dislike crypto.
3263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin is unsettling, for those who don't have it on: January 06, 2022, 05:20:09 PM
That’s the thing, people who haven’t studied bitcoin yet often just don’t have any idea what it is and how it works. I had so many friends , (often many fellow financial advisor buddies) who would tell me hoe stupid I was for investing and being interested in it. Now today, most of them own it and have transacted with it. I think this will only pick up over time as more people start to realize the truth, which is inevitable.
3264  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will owning 0.01 BTC really make you rich? on: January 06, 2022, 05:15:19 PM
When I first bought bitcoin, .1 was 20 dollars. Now take a look at what .1 is. Now there’s a difference between rich if you live in say Thailand versus if you live in say the United States. I think bitcoin has a lot of room to run, but I think it’s going to take a lot of time to get to the point of .1 making any of us rich. I sure hope so! lol
3265  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: January 06, 2022, 05:12:07 PM
Remember Kobe, dude had one big injury and then he couldn't recover and got injured again and that was basically it for him.

They have different gameplay. Kobe is more of attacking the rim while Klay Thompson is just focusing on 3 points. The chances of getting injured might be less. If Klay will now return, I'm thinking he will have an average of 30 minutes per game in the first month. He is already in rehabilitation for a long and can now play smoothly once got back in action. They didn't rush Klay even he is cleared to play already when the current season started.

That prediction might be true that Klay Thompson will have an average playing time just like he used to do, but I wonder if Steve Kerr will go just like that because we know that Klay is an important to their team just like Curry and they can't afford to make the situation worse, sure thing Klay was cleared from rehab and physically fit to play again but can he really keep up just like that again after he tore his ACL. I bet there will be some adjustments to Klay as for Steve Kerr's instruction. We have so many questions if how would Klay perform just like Irving, it'll be clear to us soon.

I think just like many players who take a lot of time off, they will both come back rusty. I know that both players have been playing five on five games, I’m not sure how may each have been playing, but until you get in to the regular nba games, you’re going to be rusty. Luckily for both players we aren’t even half through the season yet, so they’ve got plenty of time to get their footing back and make a big impact for their teams.
3266  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Average gainer gambler on: January 06, 2022, 05:08:44 PM
In my locality maximum people are losser. A few people has  gained in gambling. But who has entered in gambling never give up actually. In anyhow they manage money and placed bet. Actually how many percent people overall gainer in gambling? Betting sites day by day gradually getting richer. The Owner of bet365 is one of the top richest person in England.

Well this is the exact reason why there are so many casinos both physical and online locations. Take a look at all of the physical casino locations, most oft then are huge beautiful building with extravagant amenities. This is also one of the reasons it’s so addicting, it’s hard to win but when you do it’s such a great feeling. If you aren’t any good at gambling you probably shouldn’t be.
3267  Economy / Economics / Re: If the government loses control of the financial system, we have a fall back on: January 05, 2022, 07:20:03 PM
Quote

President Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that Turks should keep all their savings in lira and that recent exchange rate volatility was largely under control after the lira weakened sharply in the last two months.

"I want all my citizens to keep their savings in our own money, to run all their business with our own money, and I recommend this," Erdogan said in a speech in Istanbul.

"Let's not forget this: as long as we don't take our own money as a benchmark, we are doomed to sink. The Turkish Lira, our money, that is what we will go forward with. Not with this foreign currency, that foreign currency."

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/erdogan-calls-turks-keep-all-savings-lira-2021-12-31/

Who should be blamed for “that”, President Erdogan? You want everyone to hold the Turkish Lira, while your cabal inflate and deflate the currency according to your “mood”.

Bitcoin is the back up/fall back that we need.

Yeah this is insane for a president to go out and say to their citizens.  This just shows you how unstable they are.  If my president came out and said that, I would buy as much bitcoin as humanely possible.  Obviously all that does is show you how weak their economy and fiat currency is and shows you that they expect more issues ahead.

I mean what would you think if your president came out and said something like this.  I would fear my country would be going down the route of Venezuela.  When I think of that, I just think of all the photos of paper notes just laying all over in the streets and in garage bens.
3268  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Could Gambling Legalization be a positive thing for Brazil? on: January 05, 2022, 02:00:07 PM
I was just speaking with someone from Brazil and they were telling me about how hard it is for someone there to safely store their cryptocurrency. Apparently buying a hardware wallet is like 40% of most peoples monthly take home pay. So yes, if you legalize gambling, that’s only going to bring in more income for the country which could help make it stronger which could help the people as a whole. It’s a good thing in my opinion.
3269  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Don't bet more than you can afford to lose. on: January 05, 2022, 01:56:14 PM
It all completely depends on how much your monthly expenses are. After your rent, your bills, food, etc are taken care of, then how much is left. After that, did you contribute to your retirement plan? Are you on track to meet your retirement goals? Only then can this question be answered. It’s as simple as that.
3270  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: January 05, 2022, 01:53:49 PM
NBA All Star is near and the first voting updates will be revealed January 6. Submit your votes. Time for our stars to have their share of fun and showcase sportsmanship.

I may have Steph Curry for GSW but I am thinking about voting Draymond Green at the frontcourt. When it comes to defense, he can surely give us an entertaining game especially with how competition has changed after they changed the format of it. KD for the East, no doubt about that and Giannis.

I need to hop in and do the NBA all star voting myself. I am not a hundred percent sure yet who I plan to bet on for the western conference but I know who I want to come out in the east. It’s pretty awesome as a bulls fan to know that both Lavine and DeRozan are both going to be starters. Been a while since we’ve had two bulls starters.
3271  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Bitcoin is less privacy protected,( Query being a new member) on: January 05, 2022, 01:50:42 PM
The thing is that if bitcoin were to be a completely anonymous currency like Monero for example, then it would 100% absolutely kill it future of becoming a worlds currency. Governments are not going to allow that. I feel like a lot of people simply don’t realize this. So this is a good thing, if not ideal.
3272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Happy 13th Birthday, Bitcoin. You are a teenager now! on: January 05, 2022, 01:48:08 PM
This is truly one of the most amazing inventions we have or will ever see in our life times. I will forever be amazed that a new type of currency like this could come out so quickly, get a ton of backlash and then be so powerful that everyone has been forced to take notice and get on board. Happy birthday for sure !
3273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopoulos says to stop using paper wallets, do you agree? on: January 04, 2022, 12:50:24 AM
Off topic, but any interest rate below inflation means you are losing money. Whether you are losing 4.5% or 5% per year is pretty academical.

I have this conversation all day every day with my clients, I’m like a parrot. My point was though don’t just always opt for what’s easiest, but take the time and do what’s best.

Moral of the story - proper paper wallet , if can guarantee proper creation and it’s safely (which might be technically impossible ) is best. Hardware however has enough advantage it’s deemed a viable alternative.

Andreas should have been more specific in his video, I don’t like how he framed it all.

My bad mods - this felt like a hard topic to know where to place.

Edit & thx again to all who contributed here, you all are always helping me and it’s very much appreciated!
3274  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Titan Mint Coins- Serious Issue- Please Read! on: January 02, 2022, 07:22:57 PM
So, in that case you still only have to trust Titan as the reseller never had the private key, right? They simply funded the coin. Unless there is concern they may have removed the key Titan provided and replaced with one of their own.

My opinion is that I would no longer trust any Titan coin.

Besides the 2FA debacle (which I don't understand why anyone would ever choose that option), is there really any reason to be so scared about Titan? Their coins have been around for quite a while now and not a single person (except 2FA folk) have had any issue or at least none to my knowledge.

I don't think the guy is a scammer, he put out a very nice, top quality product, but it seems the 2FA thing may have been a huge fuck up and perhaps he does not know how to resolve it. Not saying he shouldn't have any accountability, but the 2FA option already sounded a bit sketchy from the beginning. My exact thoughts when I heard that was "what if the company ceases to exist in the future?". Anyway, I love my Titans, they are beautiful and I don't feel scared or uncertain that my BTC is safe in regards to Titan potentially pulling some heist. My biggest worry with any loaded coin is a typo or peel gone wrong where the private key is damaged, or perhaps like humidity/heat/elements or just time damaging the hologram somehow. These coins were already a very risky and become an even bigger risk as BTC price increases, but these are just novelty/collectibles for enthusiasts and honestly very much go against the whole point of bitcoin, so its a bit ridiculous to be surprised to have touched the hot stove and be surprised to have been burned.

As for the guy on Ebay. I also did some deals with him, he at one point held several BTC of mine and even did a couple buys for me when I exchanged silver with him. He seems very honest and trustworthy in my opinion.

I’m not sure he’s a scammer either. Titan reminds me of microsoul atm. I still want to give Tim some benefit of the doubt, but he’s making it very hard.  You have to ask why did he set up some 2FAs at all, especially utilizing  such a poor way of doing so (unlike mike Caldwell 2FAs coins).  On top of that his website TOS state he claims no promise of site maintenance.  Why on earth would any legitimate business create those disclaimers when his 2FAs 100% count on the site being maintained. That’s an EXTREMELY shady move to make. Take a look at the list of coin makers who have refused to provide mintage #s or addresses..not many left who haven’t either exit scammed or shown massive red flags.

Tim has treated this with seemingly very little seriousness imo, zero apologies for ignoring customers for well over a year, ignores questions left and right, etc. Again we know several million dollars  are at stake here and possibly far more.  We’ve already seen several non forum members recently show up as they’ve been trying to contact him fior a long time. In all likelihood there’s probably quite a few people who have either already written their coins off as a loss or will never find this thread.

Some users have claimed their regular PK coins were empty. Can’t fully confirm this, but it’s another thing to worry about.

Here’s a very puzzling quote ..

How would an attack on the website possibly lead to coin loss ?!  If hackers can’t access the private key on the physical coin, this would be impossible. Why would he even make such a statement, other than to create a sense of false security to those who don’t know any better.

So, after stating you aren’t worried about these coins, but you realize in general these are bad ideas ..then see all of these red flags ..you still are willing to blindly trust them ?  For me, any red flag and that’s it. It’s far to risky and absolutely not worth it. You can still keep the coin and hobo. In fact peeled coins have been selling well, maybe your lose 1-200 of premium, is that really worth it?
3275  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopoulos says to stop using paper wallets, do you agree? on: January 02, 2022, 02:22:30 PM
Never talk in absolutes.
Should someone who does not know the risks of paper wallets use them? Probably not.
Should someone who knows how to make them secure, understands the risks & vulnerabilities and such use them if they want to? 100% yes.

People in general have gotten used to banks / brokerage houses / and so on keeping their money somewhat safe. Now that we have to take some responsibility to keep our funds safe there will always be "a better way to do it" but everyone will do what works for them, not what is "better" since what works for me might not work for you.

Also, keep in mind you still see how at times the failures of this. There are news items popping up about how people bought an old house and while renovating it found cash / gold / other expensive items in the walls. At times the home had passed thought several owners before it was found. Guess that secure method did not work out well for the person who did it.....

-Dave

The issue with that is many people advocate “it’s not a big deal keeping my coins on several exchanges, it makes things so easy for me”. That’s called being lazy and dumb. Coinbase is the biggest and most convenient exchange /storage.but..corrupt as all fuck. Most people store their money at Chase or Bank of America because it’s convenient for them. That’s also stupid and lazy. For one they are massively corrupt, and two you earn jack shit storing money with them, if not losing. The best option, regardless of convenience is storing money on an online bank such as Ally. They aren’t corrupt like the big banks and offer a .5% interest rate vs like .001% at Chase/Wells etc. As a financial advisor I hear the “it’s what’s convenient for me” all the time and it’s one of the biggest mistakes people make and it often costs them dearly ..so respectfully convenience shouldn’t be involved in anything financial if it’s not best. If a new best arrives, then make changes!

Cold storage is the only acceptable way to store any sizable amount of coins long term & convenience should play next to no role in this. We know this is best, whether hardware or paper. Hardware offers safety paper doesn’t and vice versa so convenience here is acceptable.

The problem wasn’t the storage of money in the house, it is once again laziness and ignorance. Had they made a proper trust/will ..this wouldn’t have happened.
3276  Other / Meta / Re: Can a merit source use it's status to shill own project by giving merit ? on: January 02, 2022, 01:54:33 PM
OP you created an account just to say this, that’s 10 x more wasteful, and pretty weak if you ask me. I hate when people hide behind alts, such a cowardly move.  That said, Theymos has said he’d rather see merit spent than lost, and Krogo doesn’t care about rankings, doesn’t do sig campaigns, and his project has absolutely zero to do with trying to make money. He is a fellow collectibles nut like myself who loves bitcoin for its technologically, not for “profits “ like 75% of this forum and wanted to create a cool collectible just for the fun of it. He wants to give his NFTs away for free as well, for the record. Sometimes I like my own YouTube comments just because it draws attention to something I care about others seeing and discussing, I’d liken this to that.

You guys are awesome, I really appreciate the education! Im not good with this stuff but I really enjoy learning about it so thank you all.

Something I read ..someone was saying TapRoot will or has replaced Bip38, and that it will change some things in regards to how you need send transactions from wallet to wallet.  True, or is it the same deal as like a legacy addy to a segwit addy,  which can be interchangeable as far as I know. After just recently sending Matic Polygon to Binance US to a Matic erc20 address like a fool (guessing those coins are gone?) I’m wanting to make sure I don’t make any similar mistakes again.
3279  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopoulos says to stop using paper wallets, do you agree? on: January 02, 2022, 09:29:38 AM
Thanks guys! This is pretty much what I thought, but the outdated tech comment threw me.

Besides hacks to HD wallet databases ( why companies can’t seem to properly secure their servers with encryption like Signal /telegram have I still don’t understand, shouldn’t there be encryption code out there everyone could utilize, or would that expose the encryption and make it useless?) are there any other big security risks with them? Could Trezor /ColdCards etc secretly build in some sort of attack that would enable them to steal coins somehow? Perhaps a highly technical employee plans to go rogue with a few million so they build it in and steal before anyone notices…Maybe this is a silly question but this stuff is Chinese to me. Appreciate y’all !

It’s now been a month since we heard from you Tim. I’ve spoken to several coders who confirmed this fix should absolutely not take this long.  If you had been at least providing updates that’s one thing. Not only has that not been the case, you’ve repeatedly ignored many important/valid questions from multiple members. You are solely responsible for locking up millions of dollars ..that’s not worth your time to be a decent person/business owner and provide answers/updates?

Imo those of you who own Titan 2FAs should call your attorney on Monday. At minimum maybe then Tim will give this disaster the attention it deserves.
