Alts are dropping since the BTC China thing. I would go for more established alts. Peercoin, Primecoin, Litecoin, etc. If you want to get cheap stuff then go for IxCoin. I would trust that one over DOGE any day of the week.
good luck.
+1 iXcoin has been around since April 2011.

I almost bought back in if it had gone below 10k satoshis. But meh. Internet exchange coin, lol. Wow, how awesome is that?! On that note, I recommend Vircurex, they pay interest on BTC, LTC, and PPC now and you can save 10% on trade fees when using a referral code: Such as mine, for example ---> ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) Thanks and happy trading! https://vircurex.com/welcome/index?referral_id=832-1659 iXcoin definitely one of the better performers in this down turn. Coin is rock solid, 300 peta hash rate, 2 1/2 years in existence, latest Bitcoin upgraded client, hard cap of 21 million coins... extremely scarce. You can't mine it... you can only buy it! Meanwhile... what pray tell is digitalcoins difficulty? Paltry, a joke. You can mine thousands of these coins in a day on a single GPU.

Well, iXcoin almost doubled in price yesterday.
If it weren't for the Bitcoin China problems, this would have hit $1.

iXcoin.... hasn't crashed in 2 1/2 years relative to BTC.

Added Datacoin & Feathercoin, but getting compile errors on Casinocoin and Dogecoin. Unless a coin follows the format for make -f makefile.unix for compiling on a unix box, the same was as Bitcoin, Litecoin, I don't have time right now to get into sorting that out. Anyone point me to git repo for them that works properly?
Use the following IXC code base: https://github.com/FrictionlessCoin/iXcoinShould compile without a hitch with make -f makefile.unix IXC is #3 in hash rate and it does not make sense that you consider coins like dogecoin and casinocoin in your exchange.

Please donate to the development effort. We need to sustain the momentum. IXC today is the top percentage performer among all alt-coins. Now ranked #18 in http://coinmarketcap.com/

I'm curious what you feel is flawed about Primecoin. I'm not involved in its day to day operations - is it having problems?
Prime number sequences are fundamentally clustered, what this means is that there is a limit to how high difficulty increases. If difficulty is bound, then the rate of generation of coins increases as the limit is hit.

iXcoin - The Internet eXchange Coin (IXC)
developed in April 2011, after a long hibernation in development, has now been upgraded to the latest Bitcoin 0.8.6 code base.
In addition to the latest upgrades, the development team is now working in four promising areas:
(1) Micro-transactions - Permit micro transactions without the overhead.
(2) Armory wallet - The most advance secure wallet
(3) Colored Coins - Exchange financial instruments (i.e. Bonds, Stocks etc) using IXC
(4) Ripple Integration - Move IXC across exchanges with zero confirmation times.
These innovations will make iXcoin, the most advanced alternate crypto currency.
iXcoin was the first alternate crypto currency. It will now become the most advanced alternate cryptocurrency.

MarkM,
I don't see why IXC "could have waited"? The code wasn't updated in 2 1/2 years!
The client was ancient and not internationalized. The Mac OS X and Ubuntu client were not working!
Fortunately, we've done the work to upgrade IXC. The core code is out there.
Just need to have some spare cycles to create the QT clients for Windows and Ubuntu.
So we are making good progress, despite the complete apathy of the supposed folks who claimed to put out bounties.
The other difference is that the coins that you mentioned, allthough old, have never been traded in exchanges.
IXC has been trading since 2012, people have spent BTC to acquire IXC. That's when BTC was under $10.
So IXC in fact is much more valuable than it is now.
Matter of fact, folks spent more per BTC in 2012 than they are spending now.
My suspicion is that a lot of people who once held IXC, may have actually lost those coins!

Maybe what the world needs is not more alt-coins, but a re-brandable coin.
In short, same coin, different name.

Current top ten:
Bitcoin (Ripple) Litecoin Peercoin Namecoin Quark ProtoShares WorldCoin Megacoin Primecoin Feathercoin
Megacoin has returned. The general slide continues - at the moment the only coin on the whole chart that shows a 24 hour gain is BetaCoin.
Nice thread. Here's my take. Bitcoin <- Solid/ 8 billion market cap. Undervalued. (Ripple) Litecoin <- Solid. Weakness in sympathy with Bitcoin. GPU cards all selling for 80% premium. Peercoin <- Should decline based on high miner subsidy. Namecoin <- Undervalued at 31 million, should overtake Peercoin Quark <- Too few holder, too new. Should decline as insiders cash out. ProtoShares <- Too early, too few coins. New coins typically decline over time as miners sell and push price lower. WorldCoin <- Too fast block rate, too many coins, will decline over time. Megacoin <- Similar to quark. Insiders will cash out. Primecoin <- Flawed experimental coin. I doubt the upside. Feathercoin <- Lots of community, weak developers. Lots of insiders. Been taking a major punishment. Not sure where this will go.

IXC: xm7RZfDQyiYqFQZ6Q9ZgtSkX9e8uBJ3SLY
3,500 IXC is incoming now. I'm sending it to keep the momentum going on your development. The rest of my 10,000 IXC bounty will be sent when the client is fully tested and a compiled version is released. Keep up the amazing work. Ixcoin has needed a promoter/developer like you from the beginning. Thanks! The source code now has been updated to 0.8.6. This is the latest version of Bitcoin and will allow iXcoin to easily to convert to 0.8.7 when it arrives! Here is the iXcoin Mac OS X 0.8.6 client in action: ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fs8.postimg.org%2Fl7elgwrgh%2FScreen_Shot_2013_12_21_at_11_43_04_PM.jpg&t=663&c=A9yS5v3JUGs3LQ)

Announcement: Now testing version 0.8.6 of the updated client.
I will be uploading the source shortly into Github.
On release, iXcoin will have the latest and greatest features of bitcoin.
Stay tuned!

I'll look into helping out IXC where I can. PM me with whatever still needs to be done.
Thanks! The more developers working on the code base, the better!

IXC will likely rise in sympathy. Both coins benefit from massive hash rate as a result from merge mining with bitcoin.
95% however of all DVC coins goes to the development team, which is unlike IXC (which is more like BTC).
So the dynamics are going to be different.
In general, all 3 merged mine coins, NMC, DVC and IXC are going to do very well in the long run.
