3281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Shitcoin Cleanout and Clean Up Has Begun- Join the Revolution- Updated on: August 14, 2014, 08:37:52 PM
Ok. This thread has run it's direct course and served it's purpose.

This thread  either directly or indirectly
1. Caused a lot of heartaches for a serious number of cloners.
2. Put a huge amount of pressure on new releases to be innovative.
3. Placed pressure on IPO launches.
4. Upset a lot of people.

Thread lock in 24hrs, have your say while you can or start a new thread when this one is locked.

I will just clarify a few things.
1. No one was ever extorted for money or intended to be.
2. At no time was I aware or involved with any attack of hash.
3. I have always maintained through private messages that protest and awareness was the best form of education.

I think it's a good idea to put it to bed.  As far as I can tell it was entertaining (and possibly educational) but I"m not sure if much else was achieved.  If there is a list of stopped coins, that would be cool to put in at the end.
3282  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu | Largest Bitcoin Poker Site | No Banking | Fast Cashouts on: August 14, 2014, 08:35:41 PM
You would think so but it's not because, if I understand it correctly, accounts are anonymous.

I think folks do it all the time.  I'm not selling mine because  it's not worth anything but it has an old-ish creation date which I'm reasonably proud of.

I wish I could unfollow this thread.  All these "bits" posts with numbers in the 1000s looks like some altcoin.  Damn bitcointalkforum for not allowing giving me an out!
3285  Economy / Lending / Re: wanted a a loan of 0.1 for 7 days on: August 14, 2014, 07:44:05 AM
i m not lying ok  and never will

and yeah then why you bought the account ?

What?

You lied saying you have positive +5 trust.  Anyone can look at your trust and see this isn't true.

What are you talking about I "bought the account".  Are you schizo AND untrustworth?
3286  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: First Ponzi Service on: August 14, 2014, 07:42:42 AM
Only in the crypto world would a ponzi scheme be something to be advertised and "invested" in intentionally. Ridiculous.
OP does say it's gambling, which it is. Gambling is illegal in the US without going through many legal hurdles and licenses, so running a ponzi like this with USD in the US would be illegal. However, running a gambling operation like this is in no way different than running a dice site, which would also be illegal in the US.

Running a ponzi scheme and pretending it is legitimate is a scam. Running a ponzi scheme and telling people it is a ponzi scheme is not a scam. People are free to make their own choices with their money.

Agree, at least he's calling it a gamble not an "investment".  Still it's hard to believe that anyone would actually deposit in these things.  I sorta figure the peole who said they deposited are shill accounts.
3287  Economy / Lending / Re: wanted a a loan of 0.1 for 7 days on: August 14, 2014, 07:38:44 AM
Generally tomatocage and other mods will downrep you immediately for asking for loans and offering no collateral.  I'm not trying to get too involved here I'm just warning you that lying about your trust rating and asking for no collat loans is not looking too good.
3288  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: August 14, 2014, 07:34:06 AM
Can anyone tell me if it's okay if I use this signature? updated it myself, thought I'd bring some new colors to the table. Tongue

Supposedly we're not supposed to use our own ref link the sig.  I don't know if that's actually true, it's just what I heard from someone else in this thread when I asked.
3289  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Silver Wallets a new kind of physical storage for your bitcoin on: August 14, 2014, 07:31:50 AM
So i've always wanted something like this for cold storage but how would I go about getting this engraved myself ?

Me too, but I personally don't really like the look of the hologram sticker (although I realize that's a common and long-standing solution to where to put the private/public keys).  I was thinking about doing something with wood, it seems cheaper for a do-it-yourself style solution.

I think that doing a 1-off at a coin mint would be prohibitavely expensive.
3290  Economy / Speculation / Re: The only reason Bitcoin is more valuable then other altcoins on: August 14, 2014, 07:30:17 AM

And that was all made possible because bitcoin had first mover advantage, use your head man.

It's called innovation and sooner or later an altcoin is going to make it big on innovation because bitcoin is to scared to. Some altcoins have already seen very good success, Bitcoin could increase it's worth past the point that it's already at if it just accepted this.

after 3 years of litecoin and 2 years of lots of altcoins, all i see is pump and dump coins that last 3-6 months, and a bunch of dice games.

I think your purposefully turning a blind eye to the innovation happening with altcoins.

I think he is turning an insightful eye towards the fact that most of these "innovations" are mere headlines designed to attract the attention of the easy marks.  It really is like san franscisco in 1849.  There were a few dudes who hit gold and made good money in 1848.  By the time 1849 rolled around, the scene was full of vultures and speculators and theives and the only ones making money were the ones selling picks and shovels.

You can call this the "first mover" advantage if you want.  But none of these altcoins have a large enough community to matter.  In fact, if you say btc is slow to innovate the protocol consider the fact that the bitcoin community is large enough that any changes have to be resonably consider and carefully considered because there is a lot of work that has been done and no one wants to screw that up because of an ill-thought out idea which seemed like an "improvement" untill it was realized that it wasn't one all too late.

/thread

What does it mean when you say "/thread"?  It reminds of LaTeX, but with wrong slash.

why on earth are they calling it "bits" and fucking with the decimal point?!

everyone knows the smallest unitis satoshi and they even seem to have missed that by x100?!

A bit is 100 satoshis, it's not that uncommon of a unit -- it's supported in blockchain.info, coinbase, bitpay etc. It's a bit confusing at first, but hey, I'm just skating where the puck is going.

That is totally weird and ugly.  I've never seen it blockchain.info.  Is that for real?  Someone actually thinks that calling a random subunit of bitcoin "bits" is a good idea?!

Hi guys,

Money pot is a social bitcoin gambling game, based on quite a unique concept  ( I came up with myself ), and it's quite simple and fun. All you have to do is bet a certain amount, watch the multiplier increase and cash out before its too late. It's 99% luck, but with some skill it's possible to overcome the house edge (at the expense of other players).

If you want to give it a try without commitment, there's a builtin faucet that gives out 2 bits (2 millionths of a bitcoin) an hour.

Faq
House Edge Calculator
Strategy Guide

I ran a previous promotion giving $2 away to try the game, but today I'm going to try something different:

Play the game, and if you have a net loss -- I'll give you back your loss (up to a maximum for $5 USD)! If you win, the money is all yours! If you lose, I'll send you up to $5 of it back!

All you have to do is link to your profile and tell me how much your net loss is e.g.

Quote
https://www.moneypot.com/user/Eric
Net Profit: -12,124.27 bits

This offer is valid only to bitcointalk users with 21 posts or more (non-spam), it's valid until I close it (I'll update this post when I do). You will be able to claim your loses (up to $5) once per day, but only on the additional loss made since the last time you claimed. You may only claim, if you've lost at least 1000 bits (to save me having to top up people who lose faucet-level amounts Tongue)

Eric lost 12KBTC?!

1000 BTC is a crazy amount!  worth way more than 5USD. I think you forgot the decimal point or something.

What's going on here?
3295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coins To take seriously: on: August 14, 2014, 01:29:50 AM
alright, I am kinda on the forum, but I have been around.

Have you guys thought about what makes a coin that 'should be in exchanges'?
I just thought about that, and realize some coins are to be taken seriously, while Most arent.

to be, the list looks like this:

...

The Mid Bosses: Where they are is hard-earned, don't expect too much more. (for now)

Dogecoin

I don't think dogecoin belongs on your 'mid-bosses' list.  This coin was obviously a fad coin that had more to do with the funny meme than cryptocurrency.  It's just dying a very slow death because so many folks got on board so quickly and they're hesitant to abandon ship.
3296  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin, trust and reversals on: August 14, 2014, 01:27:09 AM
I suspect this topic has been beat to death but my search is coming up empty. Please point me in the right direction.

I recently purchased a little BTC. Because I am untrusted, I had to go get cash, exchange the cash for a vanilla card , and then transfer the vanilla card number to the seller. It all went smoothly.

Apparently, the issue with trust relates to the ease of reversing payments for BTC. My guess this is because there is no way to independently verify the address to which the BTC are sent is mine. Therefore, the seller can never prove delivery. One of the bloggers criticised BTC for this reason - there is no way to prove delivery of BTC. She mocked the BTC community because the proposals to address this problem and establish trust look very similar to the current federal system.

Is that the essence of the problem untrusted BTC recipients face?

In fact you can prove that you are the owner of a particular address by signing a message from that address.  However, I think the issue with reversals is that VISA or whatever fiat company you're dealing with isn't going to know how to properly investigate these sorts of claims and so they'll likely reverse the transaction on little to no evidence.  I really think the issue is with the bitcoin community not trusting the pay company, not the other way around.

3299  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: August 13, 2014, 11:36:07 PM
I agree with him, because I had the same thing, when I signed up. First form, ask sign up particulars and then jumps to a pay out page, where you have to complete it, as if you asking for a payout.

Now we do not know if we signed up correctly and we not know if we were enrolled or not, because it's not being updated on the list.

We just lost a week of income in our previous signature campaign {Lunamine} not paying and we not sure if we going to be excluded for another week.

So it's fair to ask, if you new to the PrimeDice signature campaign and you do not know how things work.  Huh

I'm not sure if that's a bug from Google's side or when stunna created the form but there's a link on the first post that shows all enrolled users.

Yes, but that page is only updated manually every so-often. When I first enrolled, I had to wait about 1 week before I appeared on that page but as far as I know I was enrolled from the moment i sent the form.  It's kinda a shame that there's no way to simply link us to something autogenerated by the form so that (a) stuna doesn't have to update the enrolled users by and and (b) we can see the results of a sign up immediately.
