3281  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: some simple questions for a noob on site here.... on: October 06, 2019, 04:06:01 PM
If I understand it correctly, Electrum can only trade in bitcoin.  Is that correct?  If so how does
one buy and store altcoins?

I think TREZOR can store some but not all altcoins.  There seem to be a large number of them.

Is there an equivalent of a credit card that exists in the bitcoin world?  Would the interest rate be lower
than conventional banks charge?

There are electrum clones that support some altcoins. I saw an LTC version and there's a BCH electrum.
I use coinomi to hold my altcoins. You can install it on your phone and be able to access it at any moment.

Try Ledger nano S. It's an inexpensive hardware wallet that supports more than 30 tokens.

I don't know any Bitcoin card providers but there are accounts that combine crypto and fiat together. You can send both fiat and crypto to these accounts and use a credit card that will convert your crypto into desired fiat in real time and pay the fiat bill. Check out bitwala or revolut. Some crypto exchanges also issue their own credit cards.

3282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency to be used in Money laundering and Terrorism? on: October 05, 2019, 11:05:41 PM
What is money laundering in the eyes of the governments is freedom in the eyes of the people. We should ask ourselves if going against the law is always a bad thing.

Why does the government have a monopoly over money production? Why can't people use their own money? If bitcoin was a recognized money tender its mixing would be money laundering. Isn't bitcoin money? Maybe we are laundering money every day without knowing it but nobody tries to put us in jail because they don't care enough about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies yet.
3283  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto - Can We Find Him ? on: October 05, 2019, 10:41:26 PM
Also I think satoshi had to be link to a criminal organization due to it being made near 2008 which in 2010 or somewhdre around there started using this specific crypto on the silk road and dark web, yet the crypto will soon be a hazrd because on the news NASA just said they can break the encyption because they built a super computer that is 1000 gimes more powerful then Asics.
You have no idea but keep talking. If it's 1000 times more powerful they could use it to mine and increase the difficulty to some crazy numbers. Who would kill a goose that lays golden eggs? Stop worrying about quantum computers, you may not live long enough to see them put to work.

About Satoshi the better question is should we look for him? I think that we shouldn't. Do you want an autograph so much?
3284  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Smart hodling vs just hodling on: October 05, 2019, 10:16:46 PM
Several people mentioned that when the price goes down, it's a good time to buy more bitcoin.

Following that same logic, wouldn't a smarter way of holding bitcoin involve selling it when the price starts going down only to re-buy a larger quantity (for the same $) when price stabilizes?

Thats consider a smarter way to hold more bitcoin ether and thats realy the trading job do. Buy low and sell high and buy more in low again and again but it depends on a trader also there are some trader who that and there are some that loves to jus hold and hold for long term.

Not that smart if you think about it. I used to do it but it was so hard to find a good entry point and the exchange fees weren't helping.

The smarter way of hodling is when you buy in a bear market and keep buying until you're out of fiat. Then you sell some profit in the bull market and keep the rest. This way you have enough to live by while your main investment keeps growing.
3285  Other / Meta / Re: Temp Sig Bans please - For a new kind of Campaign on: October 04, 2019, 11:13:07 PM
It would be a good thing if yahoo could give recommendations to staff. He's already reviewing these people and it should be easy for him to evaluate them. The biggest shitposters should be sent to an administrator for a review and if he confirms he should get a 7 day ban.

This would be a fair warning because you have to agree that cryptotalk has the worst of the worst among its members.

Did you notice how fast the list of banned users is growing? It's amazing.
3286  Economy / Economics / Re: How did the Bakkt launch go? Quick recap on: October 04, 2019, 10:59:02 PM
I lost interest in Bakkt when they kept postponing the launch over and over. You can do it once or twice but they were trying to start a big hype around the launch and every time this hype ended in a failure so we could expect the investors would not stand with bags of money at the door.

I wouldn't call it a total failure though. I read that all platforms like similar to Bakkt start slow and then gain speed after a year or two. Bakkt will start contributing once we enter bull market.

Have a look at Lalafell. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=967594

This poster was previously accused of posting the same thing with his alts and necrobumping threads

One of lalafell's alts was MetalGear https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=971898
He's now also in this campaign.

Lalafell is still necroposting in threads. Like threads below where last posts were in July and he decided to refresh them all today.

3288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DID I MAKE A MISTAKE INVESTING IN BITCOIN? on: October 04, 2019, 09:58:11 PM
The most recent market setback was a correction that followed a number of big gains. How can you say that Bitcoin isn't doing good if it rose from 4000 to 12000 dollars and then fell down to 8. It's still up two times from it's yearly lows?

I say OP did not make a mistake. We are still in a very early stage. We are smaller than companies like Apple and Amazon and this is something so important that will change the world. Amazon isn't even available in every country but Bitcoin is. Some countries have banned it but you still can get it there by registering in a foreign exchange or getting to know a trader.
3289  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What did you know about Bitcoin before becoming a bitcoiner? on: October 04, 2019, 09:50:20 PM
I didn't know anything about Bitcoin before becoming a bitcoiner. It was really a day to day thing. I heard about it from a friend and googled it. Then after about an hour of reading I was already on an exchange getting my first coins. I first started trading because I was focused on getting fast profit but then came bull runs and I didn't care anymore. I had so much profit from holding that I saw no need to trade anymore.

When I read about it I thought I had to have some of this new thing. It drawn me to it like a moth to a flame.
3290  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How much do you think Bitcoin.com is worth, what price would Roger sell? on: October 03, 2019, 08:50:13 PM
I think its price worth same value as paid Roger Ver - 1m$. If somebody bought it for that money then it costs that money.

As for price of selling: it depends on bitcoin future. If people will forgot about bitcoin as about financial bubble then price would be 10,000$ or so. If bitcoin will become popular again and its price will raise and raise then the price would be even 2m$ for sell.

In that case Amazon.com would be worth a few hundred dollars because when the store was founded the company operated from one room and Bezos did everything himself.

Sites grow in value like companies. You can't say that it's worth a million now that  Ver has launched BCH and news outlet centered around his site. It's worth at least twice what he paid for it but he won't sell it for 2 million. Without it BCH would lose a lot of value and it would cost him more than 2 million.
3291  Economy / Speculation / Re: 20% price drop 7 months before the May 2020 halving? on: October 03, 2019, 08:34:54 PM
Some popular analysts said that the halving is not yet priced in. This means that people who sold and are selling now don't focus on halving yet and make bitcoin cheaper by being scared of the unknown because there's nothing bad going on. They are reacting to other people reacting to somebody dumping. Like a crowd that starts running when they see a small group running scared and screaming.

Halving is not something that could increase the price of bitcoin. It will do it. We don't know when and by how much but it will.
3292  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: KYC Process (Sportsbook) on: October 03, 2019, 08:20:51 PM
You have a choice if you choose them or not if you think that their requirements is a lot you can leave and don't play to their gambling sites. Because there is more gambling site that do not need any information or verification of the player only the email and password and needed and they are legit. Sometimes those gambling site who need a lot of requirements is possible to scam and use your Identity to other bad activities.

For now you have a choice so choose wisely. One day KYC may become mandatory everywhere and you won't even be able to have an email without submitting your ID.

As long as there are sites where you can gamble without KYC always choose them. Your personal data is valuable and can be sold on the black market or leaked and then used to produce a fake ID for someone. Don't do KYC unless you really have to like in a bank. Choose exchanges and other sites that don't need to see your ID promote anonymity!
3293  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: More Money,More Problems:Can We Really Trust Facebook to “Fix” Digital Currency? on: October 03, 2019, 08:09:13 PM
I like Libra because it will give many people a chance to choose their own crypto. They will hear about it and will be able to learn more if they choose to. That is if they don't ignore all the rest and just use Libra. There will be a lot of people who will do it and it's a shame but there will also be many who will choose to explore.

The good side of Libra is all the exposure it will bring. The bad is if it fucks up somewhere it will scare people away from all the other cryptocurrencies.
Some people think it will steal users away from bitcoin but it won't happen.
3294  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why not use Exchange instead of Mixer? on: October 03, 2019, 07:43:14 PM
Mixers are just better and this is why they exist and remain popular. It's not even about you being the good or the bad guy. It's good to be safer and if you can do it for a few dollars then why not?

You never know what will happen 2 or 3 years from now? What if exchanges decide they should not serve customers with coins coming from a big hack or scam and will have a software to easily detect coins that aren't mixed? What if one day the police asks you to explain all your transactions because you have stolen coins? I don't know what will happen but mixers aren't a bad thing for the ecosystem.
3295  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin and casinos on: October 03, 2019, 07:02:35 PM
It's not that rare for a normal casino to be accepting bitcoins. In Las Vegas you can find a lot of them:

Quote
Every year we see more establishments accepting bitcoin as a form of payment. But, The D and Golden Gate were the first ones in the area to accept the cryptocurrency. Because of this, we are ahead of the trend and can accept bitcoin for dining, hotel reservations, our gift shops, and at the front desk.

In addition to The D and Golden Gate, the following locations in Las Vegas also accept bitcoin:

Rocket Fizz (has a bitcoin ATM)
Ketchup Burger Bar (has a bitcoin ATM)
Bitcoin is still in its infancy in Las Vegas, and The D and Golden Gate remain on the cutting edge of this technology.

https://www.theverge.com/2014/1/21/5331758/bitcoin-now-accepted-at-two-las-vegas-casino-hotels

In my area there's not many casinos and it's even harder to find one that accepts bitcoin but it's not uncommon around the world.
3296  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are you desperately looking for exchanges to dump your altcoins on: October 01, 2019, 08:05:59 PM

I am not desperate to dump all the tokens that loaded in my wallet, but I wish every day that the project will be revived and will have a volume. It also reminded me of how dumb I was about not dumping my token when it still has a market value.

Those who sell after their investment lost 80 or 90% of its value dance into the music the whales play for them. You have only 2 choices. One is to sell when you see it going down and take a loss of 10 or 20% or you can wait until the end. A coin that lost a lot of value is more likely to reverse the trend. ETH did that in Spring and many other coins along with it.

How much are you going to redeem by selling now? Will this money change your life or allow you to invest into something else? Probably not.
3297  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Hashrate Nosedives 40% in Flash-Crash as Bitcoin Price Slumps on: October 01, 2019, 07:51:02 PM
So how do you measure hash rates?  Has it improved since you posted this topic?

First of all the article is making a big deal out of it which it was not! Hashrate went to -30% but look at where the 0 is. It first pumped to +40%  and then went down from it. It looked more like somebody was testing new hardware and then shut down.

In December 2018 it lost much more and nothing happened.

You can see actual hashrate on blockchain.info. It's back to normal.
3298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Libra Coin bring Down Bitcoin's dominance on: October 01, 2019, 06:51:58 PM
I don't think that Libra will effect bitcoin dominance. Depends if Libra will successful to catch a very big amount of market cap then its maybe possible that bitcoin will lose a very certain amount of dominance but not that much. And that is possible if Libra is OK with exchange listing(I don't know about Libra very much).

And I think that it won't. Libra is not competing with Bitcoin, it's competing with stablecoins and centralized coins like XRP. If it's going to take part of the market from any coin it's going to be from those.

Bitcoin is not a stablecoin but a store of value and the most recognized coin in the world. Stablecoins are going to be used to buy bitcoin not the other way round and people will want to keep it. Will they want to keep dying altcoins like those that lost 99% of its peak value is another question.
3299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Sold my house for buying altcoins need your help on: October 01, 2019, 06:43:00 PM
with such large investments, I would leave at least 25 percent on investments in Bitcoin and 25 percent on investments in Ethereum, and the remaining 50 percent would be split into other altcoins

Everyone is telling him the same thing in this thread. I laugh especially because he invested in dying projects like ADA that used to be worth 1 dollar and now is worth only 0.03. Not 0.3! That would only be a 70% loss of value, which would be similar to Bitcoin deep in the bear market. It lost twice that! It's a good project but it left many investors with nothing.

And he also put money into that shitcoin XRP that used to be bad even before the rumors about Libra came out.

You should always ask and think before doing. Don't invest and then ask if you did good!
3300  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 5 Reasons why I am buying Bitcoin!! on: September 29, 2019, 09:59:00 PM
ATMs don't make the price go up. They allow people to buy much easier but the ATM volume is still very low if you compare it to exchanges.

Trump could be talking about Bitcoin but he wasn't complimenting it. If anybody thought about buying Bitcoin for the first time they wouldn't do it after hearing what Trump had to say.

Halving is a good point but it can be this first time when it doesn't start a rally because people are waiting for it.
