3321  Economy / Economics / Re: Brexit: Rejoining EU takes record 14-point lead in latest poll on: November 04, 2022, 03:40:26 PM
Given recent conflict between russia and ukraine, I've wondered if the UK would feel safer outside the EU not having to devote manpower, resources or budget towards ukraine's support. ~ If the UK did rejoin the EU perhaps they would wait until after the situation in ukraine is resolved.
If you look at the timeline of Brexit the plans become clearer.
2014 Russia annexes Crimea, there is a lot of "war" talks start. NATO continues pushing eastward and escalates to the point that Russian invasion is expected. Plans to exit EU starts shortly after that. In less than 2 years a referendum is held.

The basically saw the situation we've seen in EU over the past 6 months (ever since Russia invaded Ukraine) and thought they could exit the union to reduce the effects that UK experiences. Then they wanted to wait it out (similar to WWII) and come back in as the savior of EU.
The problem was that UK was also affected by the same problems EU was facing not to mention Pound dropping nearly as hard.

As an american I was shocked and surprised when iran began throwing support behind Putin.
FYI Iran has not thrown any kind of support behind Putin whatsoever in this war.
The only thing the mainstream media is using in its 44 year old Iranophobia project is drones (namely Shahed-136) Russia has been using that are of Iranian design which were sold to Russia years ago to be used against Terrorist in Syria, a war that Iran and Russia have been fighting together for years.
Besides, these drones are obviously Russian made (only based on Iranian designs) since according to Ukrainian sources the pieces they have gathered (engine, body parts and electronics) are coming from European, American and Chinese companies whereas the actual Iranian made drones are 100% domestically manufactured from its engine down to its electronic parts.

For many years the media claimed russia was isolated and alone. Now apparently russia has friends. The narrative is shifting in ways that I do not approve of.
The biggest friend Russia has are the European countries that decided to buy Russian energy using Ruble instead of Dollar that not only strengthened Russian economy but also negated almost all effects of sanctions Wink

Which public figures were most unhappy about general soleimani's fate? If you thought about it, you might realize those most unhappy about soleimani are those who support war with russia the most. Which made it appear anti russian forces and iran were allied during that era.
That makes no sense Tongue

Somewhere along the line, iran may have abandoned the anti russian front. To join russia.
Iran's doctrine is always bilateral relations with every country. There is no "anti" any country defined there. There is also no joining any side defined either. I dare say in the current world Iran is the most independent country that doesn't play in other countries games, instead it defines its own hegemony. Which is exactly why the budget of United States's one week of cold war with Iran is $180 million Wink

No. I don't expect them ever been in the "anti russian front"; at least not for real.
If you knew a little bit of history you wouldn't say that.
As an Iranian let me tell you that there is no pro Russian stance in Iran. Neither among people nor in the administration.
Nobody has forgotten than in the 80's when US and Soviets were at war, when it came to the full scale invasion of Iran they became allies (with 80 other countries) a war they lost I should add. The last 2 years of the war in Persian Gulf Iranians were fighting against both US and Russian navy at the same time. In the 90's when it came to more sanctions against Iran, US and Russia became allies again. In early 2000 when US Gen. Clark is ordered to Destroy 7 Countries in 5 Years Russia and US were allies again. In 2010+ when the strategy is medical and economical terrorism against Iran, US and Russia were allies again.
3322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin is the most Preferred Choice on: November 04, 2022, 02:16:24 PM
Yesterday when the Fed announced interest rates at 0.75%, the stock market immediately continued to plunge but meanwhile, bitcoin was not volatile and still trading above $20k.
Very good point. Basically we are seeing the repetition of 2020 aka the pandemic crash. After all other markets crashed bitcoin followed leading a lot of bitcoiners into thinking "bitcoin follows US stock market" but then the stock market continued struggling while bitcoin remained stable and then started rising.

I'd bet that's because we have a large number of emotional bitcoin investors who making irrational decisions like this. They dump the only viable hedge against inflation when inflation grows.
But good news is that they are only a small part of the market, everyone else is that as irrational as them which is clear from the fact that price hasn't been crashing anymore over the past couple of months.
3323  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 12 vs 24 seed word trade-offs? on: November 04, 2022, 06:31:47 AM
Simple answer is no, because if there were anything wrong with a 12 word mnemonic the popular wallets (like Electrum) wouldn't have created it by default.

But as it was explained since bitcoin private keys have 128-bit security level using a 128-bit entropy is enough.

I personally like using 12 seed words since you can also memorize them yourself more easily,
Memorizing the seed phrase is a pretty bad idea because memory is not the most reliable thing specially in long run. Imagine 10 years from now, you won't be able to quite remember all the words specially since seed phrase is not something you deal with every day. It is just for recovery which is a one time thing.

Quote
(I will add that I do use a password on top of these words as well)
You should keep a physical backup of both the seed phrase and the passphrase to make sure you can always regain access to your funds in the future otherwise they could be lost forever.

The city of Volgograd has been flooded with shit for a week, 200 thousand people without water and heating.
Although the majority of normal adequate people would like to live in a cozy country, and anyway, a super or not a super power will have a status.
Yeah people love to live in US the super power, specially in San Francisco where people are literary taking shits in the middle of sidewalks that has led to them naming it the "poop city" since the streets are filled with human feces. Cheesy
3325  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN VS LANDED PROPERTY on: November 04, 2022, 06:08:02 AM
This type of comparison only works when at least one option is considered a bad investment like comparing bitcoin with altcoins then decide which one to invests in. But when both options are viable then the comparison is wrong.

You should consider them both at the same time. In fact the best way to invest your money is to diversify which means finding assets that have nothing in common (their markets are not linked) and investing in all. Meaning if you buy both bitcoin and land, things that affect bitcoin price do not affect land price and vice versa which makes them both good options for diversification.

Of course generally speaking you should educate yourself in both fields to know how to invest, where to invest (eg. land location), when to invest and how to secure your investment (eg. cold storage).
3326  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: investment in bitcoin should be short term or long term. on: November 04, 2022, 04:46:59 AM
The only thing you need to do is to look at the history, the charts show that bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that has gone up and stayed up in the long run. For example other altcoins like ethereum went up against bitcoin (to 0.15) then got dumped and never went back up again.

Additionally try to think of bitcoin as a currency not an investment. As a currency you can use it for payment and both send and receive money. Even earn money using bitcoin. That way you maximize the benefits you are getting from bitcoin.
3327  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful buying alts that already surged high in past bull market on: November 04, 2022, 04:32:40 AM
Altcoins have a characteristic that I'd like to call pumpability. There are many factors affecting it, some of which are:
* Age: newer altcoins are easier to pump compared to older ones
* Number of previous pumps: an altcoin that was pumped many times will have a much harder time being pumped again
* Previous pump sizes: an altcoin that had a massive pump (like the ones in 2017) will never have any major pump ever again (eg. ETH)
* Hype: we all know that pumps work based on hyping up the gamblers participating in the pump and dump altcoin market, so any coin that can advertise the coin better and hype it up can get better pumps.
* Market size: it is always easier to have a huge pump in a small altcoin compared to a bigger one. For example it is easier to do a 100x pump of an altcoin worth 10 satoshi compared to another altcoin worth 0.01BTC.
3328  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I’m having problem withdrawing my bitcoin can someone help me out on: November 04, 2022, 04:07:37 AM
The problem is with the centralized service you are trying to withdraw bitcoins from. Meaning there is not something we can do to help, you should contact the support of that centralized service and ask them to help you.
Usually you see "failed" or "pending" withdrawal when they run out of funds to give their users!
3329  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: latest UTXO databases received on: November 04, 2022, 03:56:04 AM
Bitcoin Core predicted that it would take 55 hours to download the database,
A full node like bitcoin core does not receive UTXO database, it receives the blockchain from the first block and it verifies each and every one of them to build the UTXO database itself. This is why it takes longer than a simple download of a file.
This is how Bitcoin is designed, it is trustless meaning you have to verify everything yourself instead of trusting a third party.

The blockchain size is always increasing but UTXO database size (chainstate) fluctuates. It can go up and down but generally it goes up. You can see the size chart here: https://statoshi.info/d/000000009/unspent-transaction-output-set?orgId=1&refresh=10m&from=now-1y&to=now
3330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin is the most Preferred Choice on: November 03, 2022, 03:34:39 PM
5. Yea bitcoin definitely has been doing great in the recent inflationary economy  /s
In a way bitcoin price has been performing very well. If you think about it, when the invasion began the global economy started crashing. Bitcoin crashed too. But bitcoin crash ended in first week of June whereas the world economy continued dumping. In other words in the past 5 months despite all the inflation most of the world is experiencing, bitcoin price has been relatively stable.
3331  Economy / Economics / Re: Germans are looking to firewood for energy as natural gas prices soar on: November 03, 2022, 11:13:22 AM
I believe it wasn't a pre-warning. It was actual intelligence reports gathered by U.S. spies/CIA and their Saudi Arabian assets, and possibly Mossad.
They must have done a very hard work of googling the intelligence Cheesy

Multiple Iranian military officials including the commander of armed forces have literary spoken on national television and the news have been on all official news outlets in both Farsi and English where they directly threaten Saudi regime to shut down its terrorism campaign.
Not to mention that the first warning came right after the 10-day bombardment of terrorist positions in Northern Iraq which is occupied by separatists. Some of these terrorist groups are backed by Saudi regime.
3332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin reaches 19 million BTC mined. on: November 03, 2022, 10:41:42 AM
So it is! With each halving, the share of new coins in the total volume is halved. Consequently, each subsequent halving has less and less effect on the market price of Bitcoin. Therefore, mining plays an increasingly smaller role in Bitcoin pricing.
So far the halving effects have always been short term and lasted for about a month or two causing a big hype in the market and then a big drop in that time. The bigger effects and the bigger rises that we see in what commonly referred to as "bitcoin cycles" is the result of growing adoption that happens for many reasons and will continue to affect the price.
3333  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will Russia Emerge As The Next Dominant Superpower on: November 03, 2022, 07:02:30 AM
U.S. Military Personel has entered Ukrainian soil to "inspect" military installations. I believe if any of them was killed caused by the Russian military, then that gives the U.S. military the signal to join the war.
US has always been in this war from day 0 and before that not to mention that so far in the at least a dozen US military personal have been killed inside Ukraine ever since the this war started. US simply can not get more involved than this.

It was reported that this military personnel is there to audit the military armaments because they think the weapons are sold in the black market. Seem like 7 months ago they weren't concern about these weapons about where it goes but now they are.

It's pretty sure they are not just there to inspect but find out where to position themselves. This is just escalation and giving Putin the idea to blast them all.
They are there to first lead the war with Russia through their proxy as military commanders and also to train their proxy's soldiers with the war strategies they are deploying and also to train them how to use the weapons they sell them.

As for the weapons that find their way to the black market, part of it is US goal to arm their other proxies like the terror groups in in Syria and the rest are out of US control due to the corruption in Ukraine officials who will keep on selling these weapons on black market to fill their own pockets.
3334  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese Intelligence Officers Used bitcoin to bribe a US Official on: November 03, 2022, 06:54:13 AM
These things are usually revealed abased o the amount that suddenly appears in someone's bank account. For example the US official who has all his life fully monitored 24/7 suddenly comes to a large sum of money. The agencies seeing this start investigating into his affairs and find the fiat transaction liked to a cryptocurrency exchange and to funds received in a certain date. The rest is just connecting the dots.

In other words bitcoin is the last link they find despite the fact that in the news they mention it first.
3335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would this Lead to the Mass Adoption of Bitcoin? on: November 03, 2022, 06:27:58 AM
Elon Musk thinks about himself and his own pocket and anything that he does is in his own benefit that includes buying Twitter simply because he wanted to gain a lot of power over public opinion which is significantly affected by social media.
If bitcoin is used on this platform it will only be if he thinks he can make some profit from it like last time he used it to pump his stock and pump and dump some altcoins on the side.

3337  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Is initial xpub scan mandatory when building watch-only wallets? on: November 03, 2022, 03:52:36 AM
How does that work?
Technically there is nothing wrong with that since the keys are the same and derived the same regardless of the xkey's version bytes.
Extended public keys are mainly encoding the key and chaincode. The version bytes at the beginning (leading to xpub, zpub, etc.) wasn't used by wallets/tools pre-SegWit and after SegWit activation it took some time for the new versions to be introduced and adopted by wallets/tools. Consequently some of them were still using their legacy setup (producing xpub) to create SegWit wallets in early days and some may still do.
3338  Economy / Economics / Re: Germans are looking to firewood for energy as natural gas prices soar on: November 02, 2022, 02:52:23 PM
I believe oil prices will also increase again if Iran's threat to attack Saudi Arabian oil facilities actually become true. They are currently in high alert in the Middle East.
Such an open attack with a pre-warning is highly unlikely in my personal opinion.
It was more like a warning to force Saudi regime to stop its support of terrorism and shut down its London based media outlet that has been organizing terrorism inside Iran.

More likely scenario is going to be an attack on Saudi energy facilities in at least a month from now by Yemenis whom Saudi regime is already at war with. Just like last time when "they" attacked Aramco and reduced Saudi output by more than half Wink
3339  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A Checkpointing protocol in Bitcoin PoW Using Taproot to prevent PoS Chain attck on: November 02, 2022, 02:27:55 PM
@pooya87
So what are your plans after the US & Europe ban PoW mining?
Banning something that doesn't exist in Europe (ie. bitcoin mining) won't make any difference at all.
Banning something that exists on a small scale in a small portion of the world (ie. US) is also not going to make any difference.

Maybe more countries boycott Iranian oil too considering it has just joined the war on Russia's side.
lol it's too late since any country that would have complied with the US sanctions already complied about 4 years ago. There is no country left on US side.
Besides Iran never joined Russia's side, what you are hearing in the media is part of the CIA's Iranophobia project that has been going on for 44 years.
3340  Economy / Speculation / Re: The pump isn't coming sooner on: November 02, 2022, 07:49:15 AM
We never have "pumps" we only have "pumps AND dumps" which only happens in altcoins. In which case you should not be an "investor" or a "holder" at all because the pumps always come to an end and are replaced by dumps. Wink

Stick to bitcoin alone...
