I think let's not put too much attention to a bad or good reports. If you are like me then I don't even care to report. I like my time here. But if you are like some huge reporters then the bad reports will be just a drop of the ocean.
I don't care about the report statistics, but I am curious how certain things are handled. Like this particular case that I mentioned. In my opinion, if report reason #1 is wrong, it should be market as bad. But that shouldn't automatically mark report #2 as bad as well. If, of course, reason #2 is reported correctly.

About me reporting or not. I do report whenever I come across something that shouldn't be there. But I don't even have 1000 reports to my name.

<Snip>
If it's one thing I have learned in all my years (decades) interacting not only with crypto but technology in general is never to underestimate the potential of people to waste money on useless and unnecessary gadgets. This is just one of them. They certainly have the marketing budget to shill this one to the sky, and I am sure that's what they are going to do. I don't doubt we will also see a few celebrities advertising this thing as something you just have to own and those techniques will be enough. Don't forget that people are still camping outside of shops when a new model of their favorite item is ready to be officially unveiled.
3343  Other / Meta / Re: What happen when two person report the same post on: December 07, 2022, 11:24:48 AM
Yeah, duplicate reports are generally marked as bad.
Duplicate reports for all posts reported 2 or more times or do the moderators also check the reason for reporting? If I report a post for one reason, but then I realize it's wrong or might not be good enough to get the post deleted, I might find a second rule violation why the post could be deleted. If I report that post a second time, but explaining this other reason and maybe mentioning why the first report isn't sufficient, will my report still be marked as bad?

When I first registered, most of my post were written in American English, later I changed it to British and I use both American and British English together. If it is Australian English you can speak and write, you are welcome to this forum, even if it is Indian English, only what that matters is that when you speak and write English, can a native speaking English person understand you, if they can, you are welcome. Some people complained of my English, but they still understood me and my account grows.
Since you aren't native to either of those two language variants, I assume you just configured whatever software or tool you used to either US or the UK style of spelling. There aren't that many differences in the spelling that someone not familiar with the two languages would recognize. But if you were a native speaker of either one, you couldn't just change overnight and adopt a completely different style of writing and expressing yourself.
3345  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Stax (Ledger's latest hardware wallet) on: December 07, 2022, 10:49:59 AM
My mind is going over scenarios where I’d crack or break the screen, besides having to be wary of battery running down or eventually depleting it
When it comes to the battery power, they claim it can stay on for weeks and months after one full charge. If that's true, it's quite impressive because I have never heard any other hardware wallet manufacturer to have such a feature.

Why on Earth would I want my hardware wallet to have my name displayed on it?
Maybe you can upload a picture of yourself and write down your address below it. Completely unnecessary.

They claimed it was designed to travel wherever the user goes, but why would they bring an HW wallet when traveling in the first place? Or is there a new trend where people get a cold wallet when they take a trip? Bringing a hot wallet like a phone is probably the better choice, no need to carry two devices just to manage your crypto.
That's just marketing nonsense. However, you can't compare the security offered by a hardware wallet with that of a hot phone wallet. But there is nothing wrong with their other devices that would require me to purchase this $300 credit-card looking thingy as my travel companion. If I wanted a Ledger for travels, I would go for an additional cheaper one, not the most expensive and delicate HW.

About their abrupt shutdown, I believe that it was partially because complained of some participants about withdrawal fee for Bitcoin. Eventually, they decided to waive withdrawal fee for all FortuneJack users, not only campaign participants. I don't know they actually were happy to do that or just did it because of unnecessary noise from participants. If it is a second reason, that should make them feeling very bad and shut the campaign down.
Back when I was in the campaign, we used to receive our weekly payments directly into our FortuneJack accounts, but the casino had no withdrawal fees. We could withdraw the entire amount to our personal wallet and the casino covered the mining fees on their end. That was the case for other players as well.

I always remember that FJ didn't have withdrawal fees, but the minimum amounts required to make a withdrawal were always high compared to many other casinos. Maybe they did charge players for withdrawals, but that could only have been the case before I got accepted into the campaign.

From my personal experience, I can say that this is not true and that the majority of reported posts are mostly resolved very quickly, in 2-3 days at the most. It is true that at one point there was a problem with users who were reported for plagiarism, but all those who actively deal with reports know that this is no longer the case. Plagiarism and ban evasion reports are not as easy to process as spam, because each requires a serious approach and more time.
I am not a spam or scam hunter, so I don't know how much has changed and how things look like now. I just remember seeing complaints and threads where several users talked about how nothing was being done. I am glad things are looking better now.

Simple things like reporting spam, multiposts, links to dubious software, bumping long-forgotten and dead threads are being handled quickly in my experience as well. More serious reports are not exactly my specialty.
3348  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Stax (Ledger's latest hardware wallet) on: December 06, 2022, 06:07:30 PM
It's evident that they are targeting the younger generations of crypto holders with this fancy-looking device with a big touchscreen that can stay always on for as long as the battery lasts. I don't see anything there that would attract me to it. It's interesting that there is no mention of the internal storage capacity and how many apps can be installed at the same time.

The positive thing is all-around support for both Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. I agree that stacking the credit card-like devices seems stupid, especially considering their price. The battery seems phenomenal if the technical specifications are true. It can be charged wirelessly and can stay on stand-by for weeks and months depending on how often it gets used.

They are stingy with the recovery sheets. Apparently, only one is provided in the box. I wonder if it's that difficult/expensive to include at least 2 if 3 is mission impossible?

Anyone interested in preordering should read the bottom of https://shop.ledger.com/products/ledger-stax.
Ledger still needs to get their new HW wallet certified. If the required certification isn't obtained, I guess the production won't go ahead or it will be delayed. Those who preordered will in that case receive refunds.

Interesting!

I didn't want to conduct any research when I started the test, and I only wanted to rely on my memory. I messed up with the 4th question. I could swear that I read not that long ago that Ratimov was on top of some list of users with the most successfully handled reports. I guess that's old news and the new leader is ... take the test and find out yourself.
3350  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Are my coins too safe? on: December 06, 2022, 02:23:48 PM
Some will say that this is something that does not represent too much of a problem, and I can somewhat agree with that, because the probability that someone will lose their HW and that it will be found by someone who knows how to carry out that attack is very small - but it still exists.
Yeah, it's certainly not something that should concern the general community of Trezor One users. But if we combine that with a potential data leak in the future that every company with centralized servers can become a target of, then the information of who owns Trezor One hardware wallets coupled with info about where they live can prove to be quite valuable to some. Particularly to those who have knowledge about how to abuse it.

Some people are going to say, you can always get subjected to a $5 wrench attack or get tortured to reveal the needed PINs and passwords. But keep in mind that not all groups might be willing to take it that far as to physically hurt or kill people. The consequences and punishments for stealing and breaking and entering are different than for hurting, breaking bones, and killing people.
3351  Economy / Gambling / Re: OLE777 - Join Us For New And Exciting Promos! on: December 06, 2022, 11:24:26 AM
I wanted to check out how your site looks, but after seeing what Hamphser posted regarding a malware alert, and the thread starter not giving 2 shits about addressing the question, I changed my kind. My guess is that this is an old fiat-only casino that has recently added support for cryptocurrencies and is therefore advertising on Bitcointalk.

KYC might be required upon registration, but if they don't have a gaming license, why the need for identity verification?
Does OLE777 accept deposits and withdrawals in fiat, and if you do, how does it work without a gambling license?
3352  Other / Meta / Re: Watch out for user SCORUM.COMMUNITY on: December 06, 2022, 09:00:05 AM
when I open the link they provide, I only see a blank screen means I'm safe?
I'm afraid because my device stores a lot of important files such as wallets and other important documents

is there a way to see if my device is in danger?
You are gambling a lot and unnecessarily. You shouldn't open and download things from people you don't know or trust. Important and sensitive information shouldn't be stored on a device you use for everyday activities. Using the same PC/phone for everything you do is an accident waiting to happen.

Imagine the site you loaded on your end was infected with malware and someone somewhere got access to everything stored on your phone. What is worse? Having all your files, data, private information, work-related stuff, wallet info, etc. stolen, or only losing access to a few online accounts that can be recoverable in different ways and from other devices?

I notice that only Fortunejack signature campaign manage to keep up with Chipmixer on consistently advertising to the forum in bad times and good times. Not all casino even big one manage to consistently promoting here on bad market. IIRC Fortunejack halt there campaign for some time during 2020-2021 but not a whole year.
That's right. FortuneJack's old signature campaign was one of the most long-lasting promo campaigns on the forum. During the times when ChipMixer was paying up to 0.0375 BTC per week, FortuneJack was one brand that came close to that and paid its participants 0.02 BTC/week. This amount was lowered to 0.015 BTC before the campaign ended abruptly.
3354  Other / Meta / Re: Revised — Incentivizing moderation reports with millimerits on: December 06, 2022, 08:18:09 AM
There are a few reasons why people aren't reporting as much as they used to.

The forum culture in general is dying. Not just on Bitcointalk. The new generations don't like forums. They are bored by them. They prefer quicker means of communication, which takes place on social media. Twitter, Discord, and Telegram. The channels and groups on those platforms have hundreds of thousands of users who have probably never registered an account on this forum.

The other reason why people are reporting less is because many are noticing that their reports aren't being handled. This is especially true for reports of plagiarism and ban evasion. But there are other examples as well. Not that long ago there was a thread where someone complained about mods not addressing reports in the Wall Observer topic at all. If I was a reporter/investigator who finds cases of copy/pasting and ban evading, and I gather and present all the evidence in a topic only to be ignored by the admins and realize that nothing is happening, why would I continue wasting my time like that? No, thank you. Do it yourself then, or don't do it.

Sometimes the silence of the admins can also be off-putting. How many years have we been talking about reported badges and a forum welcome message and nothing has happened yet.
3355  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where is the money coming from on: December 06, 2022, 07:41:33 AM
If I sent 0.002 or 0.005 from wallet to binance for exchange, I only pay a transaction fees from my wallet while the exchange platform (binance)didn't charge me anything.
That's because you are depositing to Binance, and there are no deposit fees on that exchange. If you make a trade with those coins, Binance will charge you trading fees. If you withdraw them, they will charge you withdrawal fees.

Binance get money from many means like trading fee, withdrawal fee (which is far more than the actually transaction fee), ads display for p2p, IEO  and few other ways.
You are forgetting one very important way to make money for exchanges: listing fees for altcoins and shitcoins. Those aren't cheap. It's the dream of every altcoin developer to get listed on Binance because they know the amount of traffic and trading activity that takes place on that exchange. Unless the coin has strong fundamentals (many don't), where Binance sees it as an advantage to add support for it on their platform, they will negotiate with the devs and charge them a hefty listing fee.

Spell check is already available in internet browsers and it works just fine. If you spell something wrong, it will get underlined in red. You can then go back to that word and make necessary changes. I don't see theymos introducing some type of scripts or software to autocorrect people. You, the person is supposed to make the final decision of what gets posted and not a machine. You can also use Grammarly to your advantage if you want to.
3357  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum multisig for long-term cold storage on: December 05, 2022, 03:57:47 PM
I'm trying Bluewallet, but it seems it's impossible to use with a Trezor One or Ledger.

I'm at a loss as to how to incorporate a key on my phone into a multisig setup.
BlueWallet works with Coldcard and CoboVault. According to the information on their website, it only works with hardware Wallets that support PSBT's.

Blockstream Green has support for hardware wallets. You could try that one.
Mycelium does as well but it doesn't work with iOS devices.
3358  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Are my coins too safe? on: December 05, 2022, 03:41:11 PM
Given that Trezor has an irreparable vulnerability that can be exploited in the event that someone comes into possession of your device, I advise everyone who uses this HW to protect their seed by setting a passphrase. This additional protection in the form of an additional word/password should be unique and sufficiently complicated in terms of the number and type of characters to be resistant to brute force hacking.
The passphrase protects the seed, but the unfixable extraction vulnerability doesn't just apply to the recovery phrase. It also applies to the PIN code that unlocks the device. A code can be saved on a microSD card that is required every time you want to unlock your hardware wallet. That provides extra protection for unlocking the Trezor T. Unfortunately, this mitigation option is not available for the old Trezor One, making the device less secure in case of physical hacks.
3359  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where is the money coming from on: December 05, 2022, 03:29:56 PM
Still most of the crypto wallets has its own exchange where one can do trading or exchange.
You are thinking either of multi-currency wallets or custodial clients. And those exchange features that are supported by such wallets, aren't usually natively developed by them. It's part of a partnership with a 3rd-party. The two most popular bitcoin wallets, Bitcoin Core and Electrum don't have internal exchanges, for example.

It's interesting that Electrum doesn't even have a donation address. Not one that I am familiar with at least. The wallet's developer, ThomasV suggested a long time ago they don't request donations, and suggested to donate to those operating Electrum servers instead.

Thank you for your support. I usually do not request donations for myself, because I do not think it is an effective way to incentivise free software.
Developers who request bounties tend to finish projects quickly, and do not really care about long-term maintenance.

However, you you can donate to the people who run public Electrum servers.
Electrum does relies on servers, and we currently lack an effective way to reward the server operators.

Also note that I created a company that will distribute Electrum, sell paying services to Electrum users, and fund further development of the Electrum software.

On the other hand, Bitcoin Core's donation address has received over 13 BTC in donations in the last 2 years alone in over 1000 transactions.
3360  Other / Meta / Re: Prevent Multiple Bitcointalk Login on: December 05, 2022, 09:45:43 AM
You never specified if you lost a phone or a laptop/computer. I am just going to assume you lost a phone since the latter is harder to misplace and lose.

You are already aware of how bad it is to save passwords in browsers. Not just because they are accessible to anyone who has the phone, but also because password-stealing malware has been known to have the ability to access those directories and extract the passwords. How much time has passed since your phone got stolen? More importantly, did it have any unlock security? PIN, biometrics, swipe pattern, faceID, password? Having none at all, gives the person who has your phone access to all your online accounts unless you changed their passwords. Email apps, social media, work-related stuff, Bitcointalk. Did you notice anything unusual lately?

If the phone can't be unlocked, I am sure the person only reset it to factory settings and then kept it for himself or sold it. Unless you have been targeted by a hardware hacker who knows what they are doing with the phone, I wouldn't worry much. But stop saving your passwords in browsers. It was unsafe 10 years ago, and is even more unsafe today.
