Innovation = you bring something new. Namecoin was being merged-mined like 3 years ago.

For every claim of a "good dev team" the question should be: Show me what have they developed.

They should be able to demonstrate something. Right?

Yes, I think the last couple months clearly show that it's a "show me" market now - not as much tolerance for promises/platitudes that aren't backed by substance, or for coins that don't have something unique in place or planned.

Exactly. The time where people were joining on 50 news coins per day is over. Now it's you either deliver or you get obliterated. Changing the hash to something else to avoid ASICs is something that ANY coin can do. It doesn't need a "great dev team", just the willingness of a coin creator to do so.

Since ASIC resistance is the main selling point of Vert, it will need to deliver something right there. Perhaps develop a new hash function that is not even GPU-mineable / can't be ASIC'ed. Otherwise its promise to simply change the hash is something that anyone can do.

If it can also do stuff on other fronts, even better. It's unacceptable for top20 coins to still have clone-coin mentality.

DRK isn't favored by miners... it's unprofitable even if you factor in the lower power consumption.

It depends on how much one pays for electricity really. In Europe it can get pretty bad (>0.40$ / kwh).

Do the math and let me know.

No coin is profitable to mine for me (~0.34 euro per kwh). DRK is the least loss-making coin.

You can play around with coinwarz and check different electric prices to see how electricity cost affects profitability.

So what stops the power that be buying all the nodes? Are you implying then aren't billonaires out there that couldn't do it?

They can't buy all the nodes or even the vast majority of them. The price will escalate disproportionately (5$ will be peanuts* in that scenario) with evaporating liquidity in the market / thinning of the orderbook.

* If it goes down that way they might tempt coins101 to sell a few at 300$ Tongue

im so confused at all of this

Big money decided the future is DRK. What we say, what trolls say, what "charts" say, are obviously irrelevant when money speaks. The guy comes in there says "yes, I'd like 200 BTC worth of DRK, right now... dump me all you've got motherfuckers, I'll take'em all" and the party starts Grin

I want to explain my friends what Masternodes are and why darkcoin will only keep on rising untill the 24th of may and even untill end of June when all is done.

Could someone here perhaps take the time to write it down in some really easy details so anyone could understand? He keeps telling me to sell. I say no Masternode network is not done. He says. WTF are masternodes!?

We need this.. New people are comming here every day now. And all those people don't know what masternodes are..
I don't even hardly know how they work lol

3348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Vertcoin | Scrypt N | Beat ASIC on: May 15, 2014, 08:34:51 AM
Drk is not asic resistant, not for long...also, it's pumped to hell and back. Watch the price, you might sell a bit higher, but don't get overly greedy.

Also I heard on one of the podcasts I think the one Boris talked in (or maybe it was the guy who went to the bitcoin convention and presented for us) where he mentioned that there is a very special skype chat that goes on almost 24/7 where devs that are even beyond his level are constantly throwing ideas at each other on how to further innovate Vertcoin and what they can do if/when an asic that can comfortably mine vertcion is created. I don't think any other coin out there right now except Bitcoin has the sort of development team we have backing us daily.

1. Any GPU-mineable coin is ASIC-able.
2. X11 ASICs don't exist, yet - not even in promotional brochures.
3. Scrypt ASICs that will be on sale / planned for delivery can even mine scrypt-N with tweaks.
4. All shitcoins claim they have great dev and community. The bottom line is this: What has the development team developed?

Ask this question for Vertcoin. What have the Vertcoin devs actually developed? Is there anything that other coins are saying "that's great, we'll take it from Vertcoin", for as you know imitation is the highest form of flattery.

I hold some Verts but the coin is too stagnant on the innovation front. It is very surprising how a single dev of Darkcoin can pull off so much work against other coins with 5-10 devs team that don't really code anything.

I pulled an excel sheet to check coin prices adjusted for same mintage numbers.

If all of the coins below had 10.000.000 coins in circulation (so that we can compare price per coin without having to factor in the problem of some coins having billions, other millions and other thousands of coins in circulation), the price per coin would be:

Bitcoin   $570.35
Litecoin   $29.77
Peercoin   $4.49
Dogecoin   $3.56
Nxt      $3.24
Darkcoin   $2.08
Namecoin   $1.80
Mastercoin   $1.37
BlackCoin   $0.73

The question is: Does it make sense for:

Litecoin at 29.77 and Darkcoin at 2.08?
Doge at 3.56 and Darkcoin at 2.08?

Despite the upward trend, which may, or may not be corrected, is Darkcoin "overpriced"?

If the answer is no, then one hasn't missed the train.
If the answer is yes, then where does that leave DOGE or Lite? In "epic bubble" status?

Holy Smoke
are we nearly hitting 5 US$ !!!!
whow, who would have thought we will really be that fast !!! …>>

Dumping supply is diminishing fast as traders lose their coins to higher price levels. Fast swings from 0.0095 to 0.0115 seem too easy due to low* selling volume.

3351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] sph-sgminer: multi-coin multi-algorithm GPU miner | added MaruCoin on: May 15, 2014, 07:12:59 AM
Is it possible to set up a specific kernel per pool configuration?  I'd like to to use the pool quota feature and have one pool mining scrypt and another pool mining x11.  I can do this between scrypt and scrypt-n, but they share the same kernel.  I'm wondering if scrypt and x11 simultaneous mining on a single GPU or single sgminer instance is possible.

++10 !!

It would be great if there was a way to set "per pool" parameters - within the "pools" section of the conf file - and allow these to override the "default" parameters when that specific pool became active.

This would have many benefits, but primarily allowing for switching pools between completely different algorithms.

Please anyone have a way to do this?

Just an idea: Running an sph-sgminer + a cgminer simultaneously and sending intensity orders through the API.

Essentially one would be mining both coins, one at a very low intensity (5-10% of the hashrate) and one at a high intensity (90-95% of the hashrate). When one wants to switch focus, a command is sent to the api of both clients (one to lower the intensity, the other to raise it). Thus alternating between x11 and scrypt becomes possible.
3352  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is it me or is Darkcoin the only coin with real potentional? 100% anonymous wow. on: May 15, 2014, 07:04:04 AM
It is some weird nexus of game theory, greed and economics: all securities, stocks, etc. pretty much exactly follow the chart for some reason.

You are not factoring something: The explosive growth of new markets.

The transparent market has 100% marketshare (7bn market for bitcoin and another 100-200 coins).

The anonymous market just begins from 0% - so it can only go upwards by chewing market cap from the 100% marketshare of transparent coins.

If just 1% of the crypto market (7bn) opts for anonymous, we are talking 70mn market cap for anonymous coins. If it is 10%, it's 700mn market cap.

Why I like DarkCoin
By Jesse Livermore

I like DarkCoin because I can imagine a not-too-distant future where 99.999% of all available DRK is locked up in master nodes thereby making my non-master node-connected DRK be priced as I wish.
Evan has successfully designed and created the most insane positive feedback loop that has ever existed in the capitalistic world.

1 question though:
-Why the hell can't I buy DRK with fiat yet? (I would rather not buy through other coins' USD conversions on moolah, coinbase, etc)

JL

Very interesting point. How will the masternodes receive an income if most of the coins get consolidated into masternodes? Would there be low liquidity and low volume due to consolidation? Low volume would mean low income for the masternodes?

Masternodes take their income from newly issued coins (10% of newly issued coins).

There's no way this coin is like the other coins.  This coin is different and will keep going up, this is awesome!

This growth rate can't be sustained. The price has almost doubled in 24 hours.

And block reward halved in the same period... with the new nvidia miners round the corner making big gains in hashing power, it seems we go from 7000 coins per day to just 2880 (contrast that to 28.800 litecoins which require 288.000$ daily to be purchased off the market).

Btw, I don't think people realize that Darkcoin is actually ...3$ cheaper than DOGE (if DOGE's monetary supply was adjusted to 4.3mn coins).

I like your perspective AGR. Can you outline the effect of 1% of Bitcoin market going to an anonymous coin? I know you've done it before - it's an eye opener!

The transparent market is a monopoly. We used to have just one choice up to now: Transparent coins all of which coexist in the 7bn transparent market.

Now a new choice is presented: Anonymity. Anonymity begins at 0% marketshare of the 7bn cryptocurrency market.

A monopoly has 100% marketshare. When a monopoly breaks, by the introduction of a new choice, the new choice is usually explosive in its growth. The marketshare of the transparent coins will fall from 100% to 99% and lower while the marketshare of anonymous coins will go from 0% to 1% to higher.

If just 1% of the transparent money goes to anonymous coins, we are talking about 70mn market cap. If it goes up to 10%, we are talking about 700mn market cap for anonymous coins. The effect could be exaggerated further due to the small price of the anonymous market which will spike violently upwards as it struggles to keep up with the money inflow (ie small amounts of money can sweep the orderbook for fun).

That slice of the whole market that can be claimed by the anonymous market is too large. It can fit in there a booming Darkcoin, many clones, additional anonymous coins and existing coins that opt for anonymity features in the future. However first mover has the advantage and the original has the advantage over the clones.

I remember when making the argument in the past, the total anonymous market was like 3mn usd. Now it's >20mn usd and rising, heh.

Sorry for not participating a lot these last 2 days, but I'm creating a FAQ for Darkcoin - which has escalated to something like 5000 words: http://wiki.darkcoin.eu/wiki/FAQ

I think I can take it to 100 Q&As and then perform a context organization per topic.

Send me questions, Q&As, corrections, suggestions, feedback etc. If you feel like it, you can also send some tips for encouragement Grin Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your contribution. Good job.

By plunge I mean a hard and fast fall.... DRK has not had one yet..... And just watch when good old human nature comes knocking Cheesy

I get the gravity stuff, but not all rises are affected by it, otherwise we would be able to buy bitcoins with a few $$$ instead of hundreds of $$$ and litecoins with 1$ instead of 10$. Have they fallen from their all time high? Sure, but they are way higher than their low prices.

Quote
Plunge is not the absolute level of the fall from peak to trough but the velocity. I may well be wrong, you lot seem to
think im mad, I think a very hard and fast fall is coming... Lets see who is right

It'd be nice to have a price level of plunge target. Otherwise any price can fit the prediction. Are you talking about 0.001, 0.002, 0.003? How low is the hard and fast fall?

I think a needle may be required soon..... Not saying this is not a good coin, but its value has gone so far so fast, there must be a correction coming now....
You're saying that it is overpriced? You're wrong then. I guess this is just people buying up before the hardfork. We will see the price at the end of the week. I don't expect it go down much, if at all.

Ill be more specific then, if that 26BTC buywall goes on mint @ 79, get your parachute as its going back to 500k

It's possible to have a correction downward while still be undervalued. Many times when a price goes up this fast it will also go down fast only to recover at a later time. DRK is this kind of that coin.

Agree, I never said anything about under or overvalued Im just doing my thing and I see 79 as the critical support right now.. I have a very strong feeling it will fail... DRK has not had a real plunge yet, will be interesting to see what happens as a lot of people think this is a one way bet...

Define plunge. It was 0.054 it went back down to 0.0025, then back to 0.0065, back to 0.0047, now its up to 0.0085 and it could go back down to where? To 0.005 and 0.006 where noone was selling to 300 BTC buywalls? If noone is selling at 0.005 and 0.006 it can only go upwards (from that level) if one wants to buy quantity... and it did go upwards.

Just an update on the nVidia X11 mining support. The current github source code for ccMiner can do

2-2.2 MHash/s on GTX 750 Ti
4 MHash/s on GTX 780
4.6 MHash/s on GTX 780 Ti

Crypto mining blog does a decent job of testing out the new releases and providing binaries, whenever
we make interim source code only releases. http://cryptomining-blog.com/tag/ccminer/

This isn't the end of the optimizations yet, as we've got a faster Groestl implementation in store
that we are not quite ready to share with the public yet. It would lift the 750 Ti to 2.8-3 MHash/s
and the GTX 780 to 5 MHash.

So AMD might now mean "A Mining Dinosaur" for some coins, X11 included.

Christian
